You lean back, "If I'm sending Jace aboard, then I'm sending a few men with him. Probably Elena, my bosun, Adam, my chaplain, and a few grunts. Elena to lead the Grunts, and Adam in case of any warp-taint. The Deathwatch will lead the way, unless you have another mission for them?"
Olaf takes another swallow of wine, "Yes and no. The Deathwatch are going to be tasked with retrieving maintenance logs and surveillance camera data. Something put the shipyard out of commission three hundred and forty-two years ago, and my first objective is to find out what, and how. To that end, they will be dispatched on their own tasks aboard the main station."
You take a sip, "might I suggest that our initial landing zone be aboard the docked ship that we previously scavenged parts from? We encountered no resistance the last time we were there, though I am not sure why."
It is Olaf's turn to lean back, "certainly a valuable suggestion. More detailed planning will have to wait for later however. I think I hear Direwolf staring up a Saga, and those are always worth hearing."
Two and a half weeks, and one quiet warp transit later...
You stand aboard the bridge of the Aegis as the Mavros re-enters realspace at the edge of the HJG-1034 system. The shipyard, still shrouded in its debris field, lies in front of you. moments later, Mu'randa speaks up, "Signal from the Mavros for you Sir."
You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.
You nod, "Relay it to the holotable Mu'randa."
Olaf is promptly projected in miniature standing upon the holotable, "It seems we've hit a snag, Master Von Sebastion. There is no way to get the Mavros or the Aegis close enough to dock, and no way for shuttles to make the number of runs needed, not without undue risk."
You grin back at him, "The Mavros, no. she doesn't have the maneuverability to pull it off. The Aegis, on the other hand, does. There should be a 'thin' spot in the debris field aft of the Terra Incarnadine, from all the debris we had to vaporize last time. We'll probably take some damage, but considering we're docking with a shipyard...
The miniature Olaf paces back and forth. Finally he shakes his head, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained I suppose. We'll be coming aboard before you make your run in. Ventral Bay Two, I presume?"
You nod, "correct, Inquisitor. I'll be seeing you soon." You turn to the view ports and stare at the shipyard. You get the feeling that something momentous is going to occur rather soon.
The Inquisitor's shuttle has docked, and Olaf has joined you on the bridge. Frank lines the Aegis up, and dives into the debris field.
Simo is promptly put to work, blasting debris aside. The void shields hold for a time, but eventually give out under the onslaught of micro-shrapnel.
Soon afterwards, Frank puts the Aegis through an aileron roll around a stray docking arm, and drifts to a stop in the clear area around the Terra Incarnadine.
Olaf looks impressed at the display of skill involved, and rightly so. You order the Swallow prepped, and for Jace to load the CATs. The largest question on the table is where do you dock.
