Waking up in an unfamiliar bed, Kai sits up and rubs his eyes before looking around the room.
"Oh yeah, I checked into a hotel with Sein yesterday."
Kai got out of bed and exited his hotel room to knock on the door of the room next to him, which was the room Sein was staying in. Sein opened the door in a white t-shirt, and she had bags under her eyes.
"Damn, why are you up so early."
"It's noon. That's not super early."
"Fair enough I guess."
Sein goes to put on her orange sweatshirt over her t-shirt.
"So, are you eager to escape this place or something?"
"Well, I still don't know much about this world and was wondering if you knew anything about how to escape yourself."
Sein finish putting on her sweatshirt and then picks up her backpack, putting it on.
"No clue."
"So you're just walking around aimlessly?"
"Yup."
"Isn't that dangerous?"
"Yup."
Sein walked past Kai and started walking down the hallway. Kai followed her. He wasn't used to someone being so reckless as she put it. With Kai's ability, he should be the one being reckless, but he is still somewhat scared of danger. It's just hardwired into his brain.
As the two of them exited the hotel, Kai shielded his eyes from the bright sun. Sein adjusted her backpack and looked over at him.
"You know Kai, you haven't eaten since you got here. Are you hungry?"
"Yeah. I guess I'm kinda hungry."
"Ok, I'll get you some fast-food. Nothing super amazing, but it's cheap, and my charity money is running out."
"This world has fast food?"
"Duh."
This world really was just like home, with all the conveniences of Earth and then some. When they made it to the local fast-food chain and began eating Kai was still pondering the rules of this world.
"So... does anyone who gets sent to this world get, like, supernatural powers?"
Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.
Sein almost chocked on her food due to how humorous she found his question.
"I highly doubt it. Reality isn't like fiction."
"This is literally another world with giant robots. Why are superpowers so unbelievable?"
"Well superpowers aren't unbelievable; you literally have one. But getting powers from another world is just plain ridiculous."
Kai rolled his eyes. Sein was not the most helpful when it came to seriousness or information.
Kai seemed lost in thought, staring at a wall, barely touching his meal. He was truly perplexed by the world, and he was still wondering how he even got sent to it in the first place. He could ask Sein, but if she didn't mention yet, she probably didn't know, and plus, she'd probably make fun of him for asking another "ridiculous question".
After a while the two of them exited the building. As they started walking down the street, just as Kai's luck would have it, an air conditioner fell from a high story building, landing right on his head. Sein jumped in surprise, only to see the air conditioner in pieces, and Kai completely fine. Kai was covered by water from the machine however, causing him to look very angry. Sein couldn't help but laugh.
"Dude, you're so unlucky. If you didn't have that ability, you'd be dead long ago."
Kai looked emotionless as he was drenched in water.
"Just... let me go back to the hotel to change clothes."
"No need. Just come with me I have an idea."
Sein grabbed Kai's wrist, and before he knew it, he found himself on top of a nearby mountain looking into a volcano.
"Why are we here?"
"To dry you off... and I kinda wanna test something."
"Huh?"
"Nothing."
Sein then pushes Kai into the magma before he could utter another word. Kai disappeared into the magma, and for a second Sein's eyes widened in fear. She may have actually just killed Kai. She was sure his reflection ability could work on anything.
Just then, the mountain began to rumble, causing Sein to stumble back a bit. The magma started to dissipate into nothingness, as if it was being melted itself. As the lava disappeared, Kai was now visible, laying on the ground at the bottom of the volcano.
Sein ran down the volcano immediately.
"You scared me for a bit. I thought I actually killed you."
"No, but I'm starting to think you're a psycho."
"Hey, don't be like that. And look, your clothes are dry."
Kai looked down at his clothes. They were dry, but this whole ordeal was unnecessary.
"We really didn't have to go this far to dry my clothes."
Sein smiles a bit and helps Kai up.
"You know, I was just seeing how powerful your ability is."
"And if it wasn't that powerful, what would have happened?"
"Let's not think about that."
Kai looked around the previously magma filled volcano. Did his ability really just reflect the melting effects onto the magma itself? His ability truly is absolute, albeit a bit silly.
"Come on, let's go. I won't push you into anymore volcanoes ok."
Kai looked at Sein, narrowing his eyes in frustration. He sighed and nodded his head.
"Fine."
The two of them climbed out of the volcano, and they walked down the mountain back to the city. As Sein was walking ahead into the city, she turned around to him and smiled.
"So, you won't believe this."
Kai tilted his head in confusion.
"What?"
Sein just moved out of the way to reveal the city being completely ransacked by car-sized lizard monsters. Kai's eyes widened and he backed away a bit.
"So I guess nothing in this world is safe."
Sein just laughs and pulls out her automatic gun from her backpack again.
"Time to be a good teammate and help me against these things."
"I am not your teammate."
"Come on, you agreed."
Kai just sighed, knowing he is going to have to face off against weird lizard creatures. He has always hated lizards.
"Fine, but you owe me a cake after this."
"A cake?"
"Yes, I've been craving cake, don't judge me."
"Ha! Sure thing. Plus, if we save the city, we'd probably get tons of money to spend."
"Alright then."
