Chapter 2: They Couldn't Stand a Chance

Chapter 2: They Couldn't Stand a Chance

As Kai and Sein entered the capital, Kai was taken aback by the vibrant city. Sure, Sein had told him it was a modern, but he still didn't expect one this advanced. There were floating cars, albeit not flying, but still an upgrade from the ones at home.

"There are actually floating cars here, no way."

"Yup. I've noticed that stuff like this is pretty common here."

Kai walked up to a parked car and looked underneath it. No wheels.

"This is crazy. How are you not excited about this."

"Since I got here, I've ran into a lot of trouble, so there isn't really time for me to be impressed by things."

"So this capital isn't safe?"

"It kind of is, but people here are jerks sometimes. I've been focusing on keeping myself safe, which is another reason why I got these guns."

"I see."

Kai puts his hands in his hoodie pockets and continues walking down the city streets with Sein. He looks up at the giant skyscrapers, and as he was looking up, he bumped into someone who was walking down the same street. It was a very muscular man who looked like he didn't take shit from anybody.

"&^@&@&^!"

Despite not speaking this world's language, it was obvious to Kai that the man was mad. The man pulled his arm back preparing to strike Kai in the face. Sein quickly tapped the man's shoulder.

"You don't wanna do that."

The man gritted his teeth and pushed Sein away.

"&**@# *@#&*!"

The man then attempted to deliver a powerful blow to Kai's face. Kai instinctively covered his face with his arms, and the man's fist made contact with Kai's right forearm. Suddenly, the man's own right forearm broke in two different directions. It was a truly gruesome sight.

"AAAAH!"

Finally something Kai could understand. The language of this world is foreign to him, but the sound of pain is universal.

Sein smirked at the sight. She didn't seem to take any pity on the man.

"Told you."

The man fell to the ground holding his arm in pain.

"Come on Kai. I'm gonna show you where I supplied my guns with the magical energy I told you about."

"But what about this guy. Isn't there a hospital or something we should take him to?

"You saw how powerful that strike was? If you were an ordinary person, that strike would have killed you or best care scenario, left you in a coma. And for what, because you accidentally bumped into him?"

"I am ordinary."

"You know what I mean."

Sein then pulled out a gun from her bag. Not the automatic from earlier, but a pistol this time. She aimed it at the man whose eyes widened in fear.

"SEIN STOP!"

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

Seign sighs and turns her head slightly to face Kai.

"You really want me to let him off the hook?"

"Yes, please. He's obviously in a lot of pain. That's enough for him to learn a lesson."

"Fine."

Sein then aims her gun at the man's leg. She pulls the trigger, and the man cries out in pain once again. Kai looked away. He didn't want to see this sight anymore. Sein was right though; she did warn the man beforehand.

"Just... just take me to the energy magic place or whatever."

"Ok sure."

Sein puts her pistol in her backpack and led Kai with a smile as if nothing happened. They walked away as the man was crying a bleeding, and Kai couldn't help but feel guilty.

As they arrived at a shop, Kai looks around, his hands still trembling from what had just transpired. Sein points to get his attention.

"This is the shop. They have this machine in the back that infuses this magic-like energy into any item you want."

"Oh... how much is it?"

"Free, but you can only do it once for each item you want to upgrade. I upgraded all my guns to have infinite ammo, which is why I don't carry any ammo around."

"Oh, well I don't have any money to buy a weapon to begin with. In fact, I don't even know that this world's currency is."

"The currency is called spao. I got some easily cause, well this world thinks it's sad when they see a homeless teenaged girl."

"Understandable."

Just then, a group of 7 masked men enter holding machine guns.

"(*@*(@ ((*@# )(@$#*#@*(!"

There was no need for Kai to wonder what they were saying. It was obviously a robbery. The cashier instantly ducked behind the counter.

"Just my luck."

"Nah, I've only been here for 2 days as I said, and I've already experienced 5 robberies. Like I said, people here are jerks."

The men aimed their guns and Sein smirked. She quickly pulled out her automatic gun and fired at them, taking out 3 of them. She then overturns a table and jumps behind it for cover as the men begin to shoot back.

Kai found himself in the corner. His position, alongside Sein's aggression, made it so that the men didn't focus on him. Sein peeked around the table and continued her fire, taking out the remaining robbers. She sighed in relief.

From Kai's position he could see another robber who had entered from the back, aiming right at Sein.

"SEIN!"

Kai jumped immediately to cover her. The man pulled the trigger, but Kai had already pushed her out of the way. The bullet instead struck Kai right in the head. The robber then collapsed to the floor, dead, with a fresh would that went through his skull.

Kai and Sein looked up to see what had happened.

"Thanks for saving me Kai."

"Yeah... no problem."

Kai looked to the ground to see the bullet that should have killed him. He picked it up and looked at it closely.

"So... I really am invincible huh?"

"Better than that. You can literally reverse all damage. You are overpowered, just accept it.

Kai stared at the bullet with empty eyes.

"Am I even human if I can't experience pain? Shouldn't I struggle? Shouldn't I suffer? Why do I get the easy way out?"

Sein stared at him for a few seconds. To her, being invincible was a dream. Wouldn't everyone think so? She couldn't believe someone wanted hardships. She then smiled and put her hand on his shoulder.

"I have an idea."

"And what is that?"

"You saved me by mere seconds, so it must not be easy. Your challenge will be my shield until we escape. That'll give you a struggle for sure."

Kai looked down and put the bullet back on the floor. Obviously, him being her shield seemed much more beneficial to her than him.

"So you're just gonna use me?

"It does sound like that, but I'm serious. Do you think you are up for the task, especially knowing how reckless I am?

Kai looks at her. A small smile then forms on his face.

"Fine. I'll try."

"There you go!"

Sein then stands up and wipes the dust off her orange sweatshirt. The cashier then slowly peeks out from under the counter. Sein looks at the cashier and smiles, before calling out to him.

"Hey, get this guy some of those pills."

The cashier was still trembling in fear, but nodded and went to get some of the pills Sein had mentioned.

"Wait, what pills?"

"Just wait and see."

The cashier brought a small circular pill.

"What does this do?"

"Just eat it."

Kai looks at the pill for a while before quickly gulping it down. He just looked around for a second, wondering what was supposed to happen.

"What did it do?"

"This world has perfected conveniences. That pill helps you learn this world's language. It's how I know it."

The cashier nodded before agreeing.

"Yes, this pill is imbued with Sou force. It is a force found in this world alone and it allows us to upgrade weapons and do pretty much anything."

Kai's eyes widened as he was able to understand the cashier perfectly. He could also speak the language as if it was his first language.

"Well... this is amazing. How much is it?"

"You saved my life. It's free."

Kai looked around the shop that had been demolished by the gunfire. He feels bad for just taking it for free, but in this world, he didn't really have an option. He offered to pay despite having any money, so this was the best outcome.
