"How did I end up here?"
Kai ponders questions such as this while gazing upwards at the giant robot standing before him. He had just been taking a walk through the park and found himself here. The robot is metallic silver with a singular glowing blue eye. It must have been some 70 feet tall.
"!)@(#&@*@"
"Yeah, it's speaking a language I can't understand. This is some other world isn't it?"
The robot raised its fist, preparing to strike Kai. The fist was massive. Kai realized it would be practically impossible for any human to evade the attack. The robot didn't seem to have a motive. It was probably just programmed to kill. Oh well, it can't be helped.
Kai instinctively raised up his arms to cover his face despite knowing that such an action would do nothing to protect him against such a foe.
"I'll die like this? So suddenly?"
Kai wasn't necessarily scared of the thought of dying. He just though this was anti-climactic. Being sent to another world should have been like the books he read, but reality is harsh.
Rapid fire gunshots were heard. The sound of metal clashing against metal rang through the air as bullets rained down on the robot. Both Kai and the robot turned to see what was happening.
"DIE YOU METAL BASTARD!"
A girl with short, yet messy brown hair, wearing an orange sweatshirt and a heavy-looking backpack was seen running towards the robot, firing rounds of bullets from an automatic gun. She couldn't have been more than 17 years old, just like Kai.
Kai couldn't help but be surprised. This girl came out of nowhere yet was helping him. Maybe she was trained to defeat robots like this. They were probably common in this world if he ran across one so quickly. He was still intrigued and wondered who this girl was.
"Who are you?"
"THAT CAN WAIT UNTIL LATER!"
Kai was always bad at reading the room.
As the girl continued shooting at the robot, it seemed completely unharmed. In fact, it decided to pay her no mind and return its attention to Kai. It once again raised its fist and began to strike.
"Oh well, I thought maybe I had a chance, but I guess not."
Stolen novel; please report.
As soon as the robot's fist made contact with the top of Kai's head, it was crushed, causing it to be flattened and for metal debris to go flying everywhere. The girl's mouth dropped in shock, and she lowered her gun.
"You... what did you just do?"
"I didn't do anything."
Kai was a bit shocked as well despite not showing it. Perhaps God had saved him. He wasn't the most religious person, but what other explanation was there?
The girl put the gun in her backpack and walked up to him. She wanted to test something, so she slapped him on the face. Just then, she felt a stinging pain on her cheek, and her head was jerked to the side. She looked back to him and started rubbing her cheek.
"Yeah, that's probably it. You can like reflect stuff or something."
Kai gave her a confused expression. "Reflect stuff"? What does that even mean? He feels like a normal human. A teenaged boy who was just enjoying his weekend before wondering into some alternative world. He didn't feel like he had any powers at all.
"I don't know what you mean. I don't have any powers."
"Did you feel any pain when I slapped you?"
"Well no, but... I..."
The girl brought up a good point. Kai did not feel any pain. Maybe this was some power he got in this world, but as he tried to recall the last time he felt any pain in general, and he couldn't think of a single time.
"I don't think I've ever felt pain."
"AND YOU JUST NOTICED THAT NOW?"
Kai was aware of the concept of pain. He knew it wasn't pleasant as he has seen people's reaction to it, but he never experienced it himself.
"I did fall off my bike as a kid once, but now that I think about it, the concrete I landed on cracked and I didn't sustain any injuries. Maybe I've always had a reflection ability and didn't even know."
"Oh, so you're OP, got it."
"Well, I wouldn't say that."
"I would. And I'm more surprised by how your clothes are unharmed."
Kai looked down at his clothes. His red hoodie he had gotten for his 17th birthday just a few months ago. It had a blue X on it, probably some off-brand company no one had ever heard of, but he thought it was comfortable. She was right though. Not even a single tear had ever appeared on his clothing.
"Yeah. Maybe it's some side-effect. Like whatever I wear gets the same power as me."
"Sounds more like a plot convenience to me. Anyway, I'm Sein. I was walking back from my high school 2 days ago and somehow ended up here."
"Ah, I'm Kai. Similar story, only I just got transported here just now."
"I see. Wanna head to the capital? It's safe and it's where I got this bag of guns. Dirt cheap too."
"Sure, but why did you pick up guns so quickly after being transported here?"
"I'm reckless I guess. I just wanna get back home ASAP."
Kai nodded, and he started following Sein to the capital.
"Hey, why were you firing at the robot just now anyway?"
"I've been trying to test out my guns recently. I've recently upgraded them with magic."
"Wait, there is magic in this world?"
"Kind of. It's more like energy, but close enough."
This information was interesting to Kai. He wondered how people even attained this magic-like energy, but he was more focused on his ability right now. He has had this reflection power his entire life and never once realized.
They continued walking to the capital. They were in the middle of a vast field of grass, but soon enough he could see a road, and peaks of skyscrapers in the distance.
"Hold on. Are those skyscrapers?"
Sein giggled in response.
"Yeah. You read a lot of fantasy don't you? This world is really modern. Didn't you realize that when you saw my gun?"
Kai's eyes widened. He didn't expect such a modern world. In fact, he was kind of hoping for a stereotypical isekai world, but reality is harsh.
