Arc 1 chapter 25: The Not So Great Escape

Mo Wenzi hurriedly ran past the inmates and the guards who were busy fighting with each other during a riot. Yes a riot, surprisingly enough the secure prison which had a history of not having any riots now had a riot now that Mo wenzi was here, providing a perfect chance for him to escape. Mo Wenzi already knew about his father’s death, he was distraught at not being able to attend his father’s funeral but that sadness was replaced by fury when he realized that this might also be Zhang Fei’s doing, who else would be able to get away with killing the boss of the Mo corporation, one of the top 7 groups in the country except someone as scheming as him. Zhang Fei managed to get him here in prison without getting involved so Zhang Fei killing his father without getting involved was not so far off from being true either, especially since he was the only one who had the guts to go against him and his family.

Sounds of gun fire started as the riots was getting out of hand and some of the guards had already been killed by the inmates. The prison had been relatively stable so it didn’t have a lot of security required, but little did they know that it would backfire. Mo wenzi went towards the direction where he heard a loud explosion, if his luck was good, the weak wall there might have been damaged and he could get out, he had already checked around the prison for potential places he could escape from if ever needed, one of which was the weak wall which could be an easy escape route if it fell.

He ran forward and continuously knocked out guards and inmates alike who went forward to either stop him or settle an old prison grudge by settling things in this chaos, showing how his arc of training in the prison was complete and the world outside was waiting for him. It just meant the plot sama had already decided that Mo Wenzi was going to escape the jail since he had already spent a lot of time in jail and anything productive he could get out of his jail arc he had already achieved. Not only did his fighting skills become a whole level better but he matured mentally as well.

Everything was going smoothly in this chaotic situation as he ran towards the sound of the blast a few moments ago, and the riot continued as bullets and molotovs flew here and there as the clash between the police and the inmates grew worse and worse, but this was good for Mo wenzi, it provided the perfect opportunity for him to slip by unnoticed. But it seemed luck was not his side, as he saw a group of policemen blocking his path with a grinning expression on his face. Mo Wenzi had already guessed they had something to do with Zhang Fei since them being at this very spot instead of helping with the riot was odd. They took out batons and it seemed that they had no good intentions.

“Did Zhang Fei send you?” Mo wenzi asked in a grim tone.

“Who the heck is Zhang fei?” The leader asked with an evil laugh.

Back at Zhang Fei’s apartment, Zhang fei and Coco were watching the riot from the comfort of their home and were now watching the confrontation between Mo wenzi and the guards.

[Why does it look more and more like he is the good guy and you look more and more like the bad guy who just sent his goons to deal with the hero.]

“Who said I was the good guy.” According to Zhang Fei, he was simply just a sadist, with neither being good nor bad. He just enjoyed other’s misery.

[Oh right I forgot] You are just the demon king given human form.

Back at the jail, a fight had started and the guards were trying their best to beat the shit out of Mo wenzi, but it seemed it was hopeless. It looked like his training arc in the prison worked too well and he was swatting the guards like flies. The guards had guns in their holsters, but it looked like they didn’t have any intention on using it because they were using batons from the start. Mo Wenzi thought this and became easy and continued beating them left and right. As the fight went on one of the guard had enough of getting his ass kicked again again by a single person when they were so many of them, he felt humiliated and as a result became angry. The anger made him forget rationality and he took out his pistol from his holster and started aiming it at Mo wenzi.

Mo wenzi saw this out of the corner of his eyes and panicked, his reflexes immediately went into work and he reached for the gun of a guard he was currently beating. He took out the gun and immediately aimed it at the other guard and without thinking pulled the trigger. The guard who was aiming at Mo wenzi was hit in the chest and fell on the ground without moving. Another guard saw how the situation was getting out of hand and also drew his pistol to shoot Mo wenzi but was similarly shot down by him in an instant.

The rest of the guards decided it was better to run away and hence scurried off as fast as they could lest they be shot down as well. Mo Wenzi stood there and stared at the gun in his hand with a blank look, today was the first time he had killed someone, he had always lived a sheltered life so coming in contact with violence was also a first but he did so in the prison, he hadn’t killed anyone before but now he had done that as well. He was disturbed at getting his hands dirty with someone else’s blood but if it had to be he would have preferred it to be Zhang Fei’s.

Unfortunately he killed policemen, and even if he does get out prison he will not be having an easy life and will be running away from authorities his whole life, but it was still better than rotting in jail. Mo Wenzi dropped the pistol and went forward, after running some more he saw a huge hole in the weak wall from which inmates were escaping, he guessed that someone else had planned an escape through the wall and the blast was a result from their effort and now like him others were also taking advantage of the situation. Mo Wenzi also went through the wall and took his first steps as a free man in a long time.

[Well, that was unexpected] looks like Mo Wenzi got a taste of his share bad karma as well. Although Mo wenzi was the hero and the law was on his side but even he could not escape the cycle of karma, the law could negate it the extent of making it negligible but it didn’t mean it wasn’t there. Mo wenzi was a horrible person and had also done a lot of terrible things in his life so he also had negative karma, but it was much much miniscule when compare to Zhang fei’s, and was even negated by the law so he lived his days without being affected by it up till now. Even the good guys had ups and downs in their stories, Mo wenzi’s ‘down’ in this case was just because of the karma not because of the plot sama had designed this ‘ down’ to progress the story or for the character’s progress.

“It was but now the idiot has no way out, he will be wanted for the rest of his life for killing the policemen especially since he was caught on camera.” Not that Zhang fei was complaining, it would have been even better for him if Mo Wenzi had killed a couple of more.

[Right, the idiot even dropped the pistol he committed the crime with.] At least remove the evidence after the crime you fool, wait…….. why am I thinking more and more like a criminal these days.

“Well if he wasn’t an idiot, it wouldn’t be easy putting him in jail in the first place.” Zhang fei said in a casual tone. Coco vehemently nodded in agreement, when compared to the rest of the leads he had seen as in his time as a system, Mo Wenzi definitely fell in the ‘all looks, no brain’ department.

[What now? You shouldn’t let him get away you know] Coco thought that Mo Wenzi growth since the start of the story was insane, even Xia Su hadn’t changed as much as Mo wenzi, especially the way he increased his fighting skills and how he was slowly becoming more and more mature, so Mo wenzi was currently a big threat to the mission. Maybe even his Low IQ would change for the better as well and in time he would be able to face Zhang Fei head on.

“I am not, I am just giving him his last days as a free man who can walk around to see the world.” Zhang fei said with a smirk, his sentence seemed to have an underlying tone to it. He already knew that Mo wenzi was becoming better at everything thanks to the law helping him but he was already a step ahead of the law, it didn’t matter how fast the lead grew, his end would have been the same.

Coco thought the way Zhang fei described letting Mo wenzi go for now was really weird, but meh he was really too lazy to dwell upon it too much.

Zhang Fei’s phone started ringing, he took out the phone and attended the call, Zhang fei was silent for a while and then just smiled and closed the phone, “The two empires have finally fallen.”

[Which empires? I don’t think there are any empires in the current era of this world]

“………” (-_-) sometimes Zhang Fei thought whether Coco was an idiot by nature or just pretended to act stupid. Yep, definitely an idiot by nature. “I don’t mean actual empires you dumb cube, I mean the business empires of Mo and Xia Corporation”

[Oh, wait they are gone?]

“One them the Mo Corporation is gone, it had multiple cases of being involved in shady deals. I simply forwarded the evidence to the authorities which led them to being shut down completely, well some of the evidence of the worst cases were faked by me but still, they have met their end.” Well didn’t expect anything less from you. Coco thought his host making the situation for the Mo Corporation even more worse by planting fake evidences was more likely than him just forwarding the true evidences. After all everyone enjoys when the fire burns brighter. Especially a psychopath like Zhang Fei.

[And what did you did with the other one?] probably burned it to ashes as well.

“Nothing much, it didn’t end like the Mo corporation. It was bought by Xia Ruo easily since its stock value had fallen so much, and its boss Xia Jian is now currently facing multiple charges and is expected to go jail for the rest of his life for it. There he will have to face the truth that he failed in life, he failed in keeping his self-created empire stay his, and now he has to face the shame of being shunned by everyone, someone who was once at the apex of society but now was even lower than the worst dregs of society. You see in prison he will be all alone with these thoughts, which will torture him for the remaining of his days.”

[Are you sure, this is the way you want to make him miserable according to the mission, you know I don’t grade the missions so I don’t know how the result will be affected by your decision.] Coco had to agree, the reasoning Zhang Fei gave was a valid reason for his decision, but he didn’t knew if the grading of the mission would be affected by it. Well the only reason he was worried about it because it would decrease the contribution points of Zhang Fei and in turn his share as well, and which fucking system wanted less contribution points.

“Physical pain is temporary, it’s the mental pain that forever stays with you. I am sure my decision is right.” Zhang Fei said this in a serious tone, without a single hint of mirth. The only reason he was sure of this was because of one thing. Experience. In time a person becomes numb to physical pain but your thoughts, they are always with you and they provide an endless torture to you. According to him that is one of the best ways to make someone miserable in the long term.

[Then you only have Xia Su and Mo wenzi to deal with, but I haven’t heard about Xia Su in a while.]

“It’s because she is hiding, no one would show their face after the world knows what truly lies behind that beautiful face. They are not a big deal, in a few days I’ll deal with them as well”

[Great, after completing the mission you will be able to get rid of some of the negative karma.]

“And how much is ‘some’?” Zhang fei thought that Coco giving him good news was almost impossible, he had a hunch that this good news definitely had a part that was not so good.

[About a hundred billionth of the total, that’s a lot right.] Coco said in a jubilant tone, from his perspective he was giving his host good news.

(ಠ_ಠ) “……” Wow. I am so screwed. If this was the pace at which he could get rid of the negative karma then even a million missions wouldn’t be enough, T-T. And why the heck is this cube so happy about it. Zhang Fei misunderstood Coco and gave plenty of award winning curses to Coco. Actually it wasn’t Coco’s fault, his sense of numbering was quite different from a normal human as he was a system who spent millions of years in a box, plus he also had the tag ‘malfunctioning’ attached to him, so him giving such a news in a happy tone was normal.
