A Nerfed Gamer in Avia Chapter 13 - The Legendary Companion

I shot forward at the first guy. The Axe Wielder activated his regular Qi Cloak and swung his axe at me.

I slipped around the strike letting the axe slam into the ground as I slammed a quad burst punch into the man's ribs. Haki broke through his cloak. Quad Burst slammed straight into his unprotected skin.

It ripped apart his stomach. He collapsed to the floor trying to stop the blood pouring from his stomach in vain. He was out of the fight.

There were four more. One who wielded a greatsword, one who had two shortswords. One who had a dagger. The final one had a shield and mace.

Greatsword roared in anger and slammed his blade down on the spot where I just was. I had already dodged. I could see what he was going to do long before he actually did it.

I kicked at his right wrist since he hadn’t recovered from his swing yet. The bone snapped under the force causing him to drop his sword. I had to pull back though.

I ducked under a swipe from shield before I deflected away dual wield with hardening. His swords bounced harmlessly off my hardened arms. This caught him off guard which allowed me to slam a Quad burst into his face.

He collapsed to the floor, dead. I then charged towards the dagger wielder. Ducking under his hasty slash I jabbed my hand into his throat before wrenching it to the side.

He fell back clutching at his throat. The last two Greatsword and Shield both turned to run.

Greatsword obviously could no longer use his weapon. So he was dispatched easily. I then charged at shield who raised his shield to block my quad burst punch.

I was even surprised at the result. The punch tore through the metal, it ripped it apart. Granted the metal did what it was supposed to. It stopped most of the momentum of the punch allowing Shield to swing his mace at my head.

I still had the Sharingan and WSRSF and so I easily dodged the hit before slamming another Quad Burst into the man's stomach.

That took about a minute. I managed to kill five E Ranks in a minute. I knew I was strong but this was… Insane.

They gave me 5000 Xp in total.

I turned to Kearla who looked surprised, she wasn’t surprised at the brutality but at the speed in which I killed them.

“You really are a prodigy… To be able to defeat that many King Tier 1 Qi Users when you are only a King Tier 2 is incredible” she said as she casted a spell. Water slammed into me, washing away all the blood and gore that covered my body.

Kearla then started walking out of the cave.

Soon she was out of my sight and I went to follow her but I was stopped as I heard a voice in my head ‘why the hell did you kill them?!” I heard Rumi growl out. She was a hero so i expected this.

I sighed in annoyance “because it’s life or death. This world isn’t as kind as yours. All I care about is finding my friends and protecting my family. If that means I have to be ruthless and merciless then I will be.

Like it or not we are stuck with each other. If you want to sit in that pocket dimension and hide away from the reality of this world then do it. I don’t need your help” I then forcefully cut the connection as I started walking from the cave.

This was the problem with the companion system. There was always a chance I would get a companion that hates killing and wouldn’t do so.

I didn’t care though. I expected I would have to do a lot of it and if Rumi couldn’t handle that then she could just stay in her dimension. I didn’t need her help after all.

I needed to level faster, that dungeon hadn’t given me much. Which means I need to find a tougher dungeon.

I went back to the guild and turned in the ears. I was given the rewards, I put the coins in my inventory and then went home. I had enough today and I needed to rest.

I decided to go to the same clearing where we trained before. I was alone this time. I needed some time to think and I decided to train Mp whilst I was at it.

I sat on the grass as I held my hand up and formed an orb in my palm.

I was ripped from my concentration as I heard a twig snap in the distance. I jumped up and activated my QI Cloak as I looked around warily.

My eyes snapped to some movement, I saw a figure stumble out of the bushes near me collapsing to the ground. It was a little girl around my age.

I activated my Sharingan and as I inspected her, she raised a hand weakly towards me “please help me” she whispered out, incapable of speaking any louder.

I moved over and crouched down beside her. She wore a ragged and old dress. It was all she had on. No shoes, nothing else.

She was very clearly malnourished. I was surprised though as a screen popped up.

I immediately opened the screen

I didn’t read anything else. I quickly picked her up and ran home. I kicked open the front door as I shouted for my parents.

My father and mother quickly arrived along with my siblings. My parents rushed over when they saw the girl in my arms.

“Who is she?” Father asked.

“I don’t know, I was training Mp outside and she stumbled into the clearing and asked for help before passing out” I explained as I handed the girl to my father.

He immediately ran her to the village to get help from a healer.

About 2 hours later, he arrived back. The girl was in his arms. Her skin had a bit more colour to it than before.

He took her to a spare room and laid her in the bed. I stood at the end of it, my eyes narrowed.

Everyone soon left the room when they realised she was going to be fine. It was just me and my dad left.

“You okay son?” he asked as he looked at me. I stood at the end of her bed looking at her status screen with a frown.

He probably assumed I was looking at her “yea i’m fine. Just surprised is all” I explained.

“Today has been a shitshow for me” I said with a sigh “dad i’ll watch over her, you go get some sleep” I said as I looked at him.

He sighed and nodded “fine, come get us if anything happens okay?” he said and I nodded as I moved over and sat in the seat beside her bed.

I watched over her for a few hours but the exhaustion of the day caught up to me and I soon fell asleep.

Soon I woke up. I had slept in a decently comfortable chair but my back was still sore so I activated my Qi Cloak and let it heal the soreness.

It took about 15 minutes for Lixiana to wake up. The girl slowly blinked her eyes open, confusion on her face as she slowly pushed herself up to a sitting position.

Her eyes slowly drifted around the room before landing on me. She flinched in fear slightly before she seemed to recognise me. Her brows furrowed and then she let out a breath of relief.

“I found you” she whispered out, mumbling to herself. Her eyes quickly teared up before she jumped out of the bed and rushed me. She wrapped her arms around my neck and shoved her face into my shoulder as she started sobbing openly.

I was completely caught off guard. I just slowly put my arms around her and gently patted her back. I was so out of my depth it's unreal.

I hugged her until she calmed down a bit then I said “you know me?” I asked.

I felt her slowly nod, she then pulled her head out of my shoulder and wiped her eyes. At this point she was sitting in my lap.

“How?” I asked. She sniffed trying to halt her tears “I don’t know, I was running from some hunters after they killed my parents. I was sleeping one night and I got a vision. Of you and this place” she explained.

“It made me feel safe and so I did everything I could to get here,” she said.

“You’re a werewolf?” I asked and she nodded shyly.

“I am, that’s why they hunted me. Mommy always said we had to hide our gift because there were bad people who would hurt us for it, they killed her and daddy because of it” she then started crying again as old memories came back.

She hugged me again, her face going back into my shoulder as she sobbed.

I gently patted her back “don’t worry they won’t be able to get you now, I’ll protect you” I felt a need to protect her, I couldn’t help but imagine Sofia and Floria in her place.

What if I hadn’t been able to save them? Would they be as traumatised as this little girl? I had no idea and thinking those kinds of thoughts would only make me depressed.

I had to get her mind off of things “hey you hungry?” I asked with a smile as she slowly looked up at me and then slowly nodded.

“Would you like to meet the rest of my family?” I asked and she then shyly shook her head.

I chuckled “it’s dinner time now so i’ll go get us both some food and then we can talk okay?” I suggested.

She seemed hesitant to let go of me but I just picked her up and put her back in her bed. I patted her head before I left the room.

I went to the dining hall where my family were eating. “Ah Ben,” Father said, “how is she?” he asked.

“Traumatised” I said with a sigh “what is a werewolf?” I asked as I looked at him.

His eyebrows raised as he gestured to mother.

“I know more about those things than your father does. Werewolves are a mutation. The lycanthrope curse or gift depending on how you view it changes you.

It makes the one who bears it stronger, faster, more resilient but it also means they are part monster. It originated from a monster that has been long exterminated.

The monster's venom turned people into werewolves which usually went insane and slaughtered anything they could find. Some didn’t go insane and as the curse was passed down through generations it evolved into something else.

If this girl is a werewolf then she’ll need help. Her family was most likely attacked by the church or werewolf hunters. Some people hate them because of their blood relation to monsters. They believe them to be monsters themselves” she explained.

I nodded slowly “I want to help her” I said as I crossed my arms.

“We have no issues with werewolves, no one in our kingdom believes them to be monsters but they do have issues. Every Full Moon they are forced into their humanoid wolf form. If they don’t have control over it they could go on a rampage and hurt a lot of people” mother explained.

“How do they get control?” I asked.

“As they age they gain control over it passively as their body becomes more in tune with their werewolf side. They can actively control it but there needs to be someone there who can effortlessly beat the werewolf form in case the werewolf in question loses control” mother explained.

“She is Knight Tier 1, could I do that?” I asked.

Mother hummed in thought for a bit before looking at me “maybe, it depends on how strong her genes are, the closer the werewolf is to its monster ancestor the stronger the werewolf blood is” she explained.

I nodded before I grabbed two plates of food “she is shy, you two should visit though soon and introduce yourselves” I suggested to mom and dad.

My siblings were quite clearly disturbed by the information that people were trying to hunt Lixiana. Damien looked downright pissed.

She was clearly safe here. I chuckled a little as I left back to her room.

We ate and engaged in small talk. She asked a lot of questions about me. She was a relatively normal child mentally so she was curious and couldn’t stop herself from asking loads of questions.

Soon mother and father came by to introduce themselves. She seemed shy and hesitant to interact with them since they were adults. With comfort from me though she thanked them both and introduced herself.

Turns out she could also see my screens. She was a companion after all. I told her it was my power and greatest secret. She promised not to tell anyone.

Soon she fell asleep, she was still scared so I promised her I would stay in her room that night.

‘You confuse me, how can you mercilessly mutilate a bunch of people and then be so kind and caring towards this girl?” Rumi asked, seemingly confused.

I whispered back “because I'm not inherently bad, my goal is to protect my friends and family. My goal is inherently good but the methods I'm willing to use to achieve that goal can be bad.

I am willing to do almost anything to achieve my goal. I’d never hurt or kill a child for example unless the purpose was good, for example training them. I am more of an Anti-Hero.

My goals are good and my intentions are usually good but if it means I'm doing something good then I am willing to do bad things if the result is good.

That fight was for my survival and to improve my strength. I’d never sacrifice an innocent person for strength but those five weren’t innocent. They were trying to extort a child for fucks sake. They can rot in hell for all I care”. I explained.

Rumi went silent after that and I soon fell asleep.

I was awoken by my father. Turns out Lixiana had snuck out of the room whilst I was asleep and was exploring the mansion. Dad ended up giving her a tour and asked her if she’d like to live here with us from now on.

She readily accepted and was given a room across from mine. All of our rooms except mothers and fathers were next to each other.

Mother and Father had some more privacy. Speaking of mother, after the attempted kidnapping of Sofia and Floria she went crazy with the Wards.

They spared no expense and made them as safe as possible. This mansion was a goddamn fortress at this point. At this point only Godly Tier and above would be capable of getting in.

Granted that does mean it costs a shit ton to maintain but our parents didn’t care. They were making a lot of money from the guild and Averni. We were exporting a lot of monster parts and selling a lot of them to the guild.

This guild branch was probably one of the most profitable in Iciya if it wasn’t the most profitable.

The surrounding woods were just so packed full of monsters of all kinds there was no shortage of monster parts and hunters to hunt them.

Father had hired a bunch of those hunters to hunt specific monsters that sell for a lot. Because of these pursuits we were very well off.

Granted the Avernus Kingdom was nowhere near as powerful or as wealthy as Iciya but that was obvious.

Lixiana had decided to watch us train this morning. It hadn’t taken long for her to fully recover. She had an excellent healing factor and with the energy to burn, her body set about fixing all the imperfections that had accumulated.

Speaking of her, this was her status.

The user is a Werewolf. They are capable of transforming into a humanoid wolf form. As the werewolf ages they gain control over their wolf form. This gives many benefits:

Enhanced Senses.

Healing Factor.

Night Vision.

Human Form:

Retractable Claws.

Night Vision.

The werewolf also gains some weaknesses, they will be forced into their werewolf form and stuck in it every time the Full Moon is out. They can only return to their human form when the light of the Full Moon no longer touches their skin.

They gain a small resistance to magic but a weakness to silver weapons which can stop their regenerative abilities.

Qi Cloak (Lvl 1):

A basic use of Qi, you simply push your Qi out and cover your entire body with it.

Abilities:

Increases Physical Capabilities

Can protect against attacks at the cost of your Qi.

Gives a Regeneration Factor whilst active.

Techniques:

She sure as shit was Legendary, I take back what I said about the companion system being shit. I apologise. It was sure worth the wait.

Turns out Lixiana had been trained in Qi by her father. She learned Qi Cloak a few days before her parents were killed. It helped her escape.

She was determined to train in both of her abilities. She saw them as the last things she had that her parents gave her. Qi Cloak from her father and Werewolf Physiology from her mother.

Her father and mother were both elves as well. So she was half elf, half werewolf. Her mother being half-elf half-werewolf.

Father decided to train her along with Andrew and Tuck. I told her I couldn’t because I had to prepare for the tournament. She was sad about that but she understood when I explained the importance of it.

She just resolved herself to get much stronger before that time came.

Which is why I found myself back at the guild. I was standing in front of the E Rank Guild board.

I was ripped from my musing as two arms wrapped around me from behind as I was dragged into a hug “it’s little Benji!” the women squealed, I knew who it was immediately.

I slipped out of her grip as I pointed accusingly at the laughing Aegis and smirking Aeron “you assholes! Why didn’t you stop her!?” I shouted at them with a glare.

Yuuko was just smiling happily at me, Aegis simply shrugged “she was too fast” he said simply.

“Bullshit” that was pure bullshit, Aegis was a Qi user and had a higher cultivation.

“You a hunter now, Benji?” Yuuko asked with a big smile. I nodded with a sigh as Aegis chuckled.

“Yep I am, E Rank” I said as I showed them my card.

“Have you seen our page?” Aeron asked.

I raised an eyebrow at him and Aeron pointed at a page near to the bottom.

I looked at it, they were looking for an E Rank to watch their backs apparently.

“Having you and Damien helped quite a bit, it meant me and Aegis could let loose since we didn’t have to worry about protecting Yuuko” Aeron explained and I sighed.

“I’d love to help you guys but I need to up my cultivation as much as possible so I need to kill as many monsters as possible” I said with a sigh.

“That’s a bummer” Aegis said. Yuuko pouted at me, I sheepishly rubbed the back of my head in response to her pout.

“Then you should do that” he pointed at a board at the far end of the line of boards.

“I ain’t high enough rank” I said as I looked at him confused.

He gestured for me to follow him and I did “This is the raid board” he said.

Urgent Raid Quest.

A High D Rank Dungeon has been reported to have a red energy infused boss monster. It is close to a Dungeon break. The Guild is gathering as many hunters as possible E Rank and above to assault this dungeon.

Raid will commence on Wednesday at noon. Report to the Guild building to join.

Rewards: 25 Silver for each Hunter.

I narrowed my eyes at the quest “it’s an ogre dungeon, not many people attack them because of their regenerative abilities, it’s a pain to deal with. We’ll be going to the raid as well” they said, it starts in about 30 minutes.

“You just have to be here and the Branch Leader will explain what we will be doing” Aegis explained.

I shrugged and went to Kearla and told her about the raid, she said she would join us but only to protect me not to complete the raid.

We then went and sat with Aeron and his group.

Soon a bunch of Hunters were gathered in the guild. Everyone was gathered on the right side of the building. There were about 30 hunters of E Rank and above.

Branch Leader Johnson soon arrived in front of the group, everyone quieted down as he started speaking.

“This dungeon is already on the high end of D Ranks. Expect the boss to be at least Earth Tier 1. We will be splitting into groups, each group will be coordinated by one of us three” he then gestured to himself and two other people stood to the side.

“I will be handling the Tanks and these two will be handling the Brawlers and Mages respectively, D Ranks will be in front whilst E Ranks act as support” Johnson said.

Soon the meeting was done and everyone was getting ready to go. It’s time for a raid.
