My dreams were starting to become clearer. Although there were some parts that didn't make sense, I could tell they were memories from my past. They did reveal themselves every time I would close my eyes but they but it was better than having all of my memories come flooding in like a dam being destroyed. The only things I saw were my days with Lisa and Liz... maybe its because I got to see them in the present, granted Liz or rather the warden was always around. We weren't alone though, others in my memories were there but it's like their very figure was blurred. They spoke to me but I couldn't make out their faces...
"Jorge, you're dozing off again! Get serious, I'm trying to train you!" (Lisa)
"Why can't big sister Liz train me? You're just a kid. I don't want someone who's the same age as me for a teacher!" (Jorge)
"Why you little... Listen here! I may look like I'm 7 but I'm actually like 80... You know what? Don't worry about my age." (Lisa)
"Ha! You were about to say 80 years old, weren't you granny?" (Jorge)
"That's it! I'm about to show you how it feels to be in the advance course of my martial arts training!" (Lisa)
"Bring it!" (Jorge)
Jorge and Lisa squared off, the constant verbal jabs at each other were normal for them, like 2 siblings always fighting. This was a typical day which consisted of training Jorge, who was a human. Lisa and her family; the Chronicler's were known as the 12 royal families of the lost city. Since the reign of her father, the family was cut deep and now only 4 families remained.
Each one of these families were regarded as Noble vampires. Jorge was taken in by the Chronicler's when he was just a baby. They practically adopted him even though his existence was never revealed nor his abilities as a half human.
"That's enough you two. It's time for lunch. Gabr... are you coming?" (Liz)
As Jorge and Lisa fought in a large field, Liz called over to them as she placed sandwiches on a table. They were currently in the family estate that was farther out in the countryside, away from the city. Their mansion was so big that it stood at roughly three stories. They were currently eating in the back yard which was surrounded by brick walls and Topiary, shrubs, and trees that shaded them from the sun. Behind Liz was another boy who couldn't get his eyes off of the book in front of him.
"Yea, sure. Just be patient Jorge. Once Lisa goes back to sleep, I'll be training you." (Gabriel)
It wasn't that Jorge's existence was to secretive that they couldn't enter the city, but Liz had to make sure her siblings were home in case they randomly fell sleep. Young vampire's had to go through sleeping cycles in order to grow and mature. Jorge didn't mind it, he knew chances to see the city would come eventually. although, the thing that always caught his attention was the barrier just within the forest.
"Thanks, Gabri... , but Liz is the oldest and most experienced, right? Why can't she train me?" (Jorge)
I couldn't hear his name. Even when it came out of my own mouth. His figure was blurred out too. Clearly, we were friends. Lisa thought I was dead so maybe that's why he never came looking for me either. Was he sad? Vampires don't have those kinds of emotions because the definition of death barely applies to them. This family was in charge of the prison but since Liz was over seeing it, they probably never cared to visit or check it out. I mean.. It's a prison after all. They must have held her in such high regards since none of the vampires knew she was keeping a bunch of half humans in her domain.
"The point of them training you is so you can learn their fighting styles. Getting used to the way they fight can help improve you as well as understanding them more." (Liz)
"Why? so, when I fight them. I'll know what to expect?" (Jorge)
"No, so when the day comes. You guys can work together. You won't be getting in the others way." (Liz)
"I don't care about that! I just want to get strong so I can beat ...." (Jorge)
"Did you hear that? He wants to beat you ha-ha." (Liz)
"...." (Al)
"What!! When did you get here? I didn't even notice! You truly are the best master! Just you wait!" (Jorge)
His name and figure are lost to me as well. I called him my Master?
Behind Jorge, stood a man with a clown mask. You could see his face, and he only ever mumbled. No words would actually come out, but they still understood him. The things that were obvious was his hair and how yellow it was, his suit which made it clear to anyone that he was a butler of some sort. He went by the name of Alphonse and was another fellow taken in by the Chronicler family.
I felt like a stranger in these memories. Regardless, they were good moments in time and most of all. I was happy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Jorge, wake up!!! We're going to be late on the first day of school!!" (Chris)
"Just a 5 more minutes." (Jorge)
Only a few months passed since Jorge and Chris's incident. They thought if they escaped the prison, they could live their lives peacefully. Eventually they were drawn into helping their other friends who were still being hunted by vampires. Jorge couldn't accept it, but he also never expected to have made friends with one of them and that his memories would lead to him being friends with even more vampires.
After saving a girl named Clarissa, her father promised to train them in martial arts since teaching to control one's magic was beyond his level of expertise. They were still afraid of Raymond and his teachings could be a little extreme but luckily Clarissa was their to keep him in check. Chris didn't hate him, her anger was more towards Allister. He grandfather who she's been trying to chase down. From what Raymond said, he's been helping Lisa hunt down New Beginning ever since he arrived. In reality? She was being ghosted.
"Jorge, I don't have time for this! So. WAKE UP!" (Chris)
Chris used her magic, cooling the room. Jorge didn't jump out of bed, but his shivering forced his eyes open as he glared at Chris.
"I'm. Up." (Jorge)
"Thank you, now go take a shower please~" (Chris)
After Jorge washed up, he walked into the wrong room, still in a daze and found Chris putting on her school uniform. The first thing that came into view was a scar on her back, shaped like the letter x. It felts like two swords clashing.
"Get out idiot" (Chris)
"Sorry!!" (Jorge)
After that encounter, Chris finally met up with Jorge down stairs.
"You ready?" (Chris)
"Yea, Sorry. Hey, I never realized it before, but do you know where that scar came from? Looks to unique to be a wound from a fight." (Jorge)
"No. my mom never told me. I don't even remember how I got it. Feels like it's always been there. I've been meaning to ask a certain some one but I haven't been able to reach him." (Chris)
"I see. ahh. You're wearing a skirt?" (Jorge)
"Yea, looks good right? Clarissa got it for me. I was always used to wearing pants, but this skirt feels so much better!" (Chris)
Their school was located in the Chronicler's domain. Although it was a pretty far away. They were able to take the train that lead them across the large lake located in the center of the city. The old man who worked at the shop said he would be able to purchase an apartment for them to use within the domain, so they don't have to come back all the time.
"So, the old man told us we can use this new apartment? Sounds good to me! But he only made one key though?" (Jorge)
"He figured you would lose yours, so he didn't want to risk it. Apparently, he has other shops nearby so he said we can help with any deliveries around the Chronicler's domain." (Chris)
"Fair enough. I can't believe it's already our first day of school. We only got to train with Raymond for like 2 weeks." (Jorge)
"Yea but you learned pretty quick. Although you still need way more training. He also invited us to come to the Last Frontier later this year. We can train while also learning about your origin. But first..." (Chris)
"First, we have to find Alex. I'm sure he already knows that we helped Lisa and them." (Jorge)
"That's a given. She's a friend. But Selen... I mean her highness promised June would be safe. I was hoping that once he finds out about hrt, it would piss him off enough to confront us but... I feel like something bad is going to happen to this city instead..." (Chris)
"June? Were they good friends?" (Jorge)
"Didn't I tell you? (Chris)
"I hate you." (Jorge)
-----------------------------------------
"Are you ready Uncle?" (Lisa)
"Please don't call me uncle. You're a noble vampire and I can't have people freaking out when they see me, a normal looking human being called uncle by you." (Allister)
"But you're not normal though..." (Lisa)
"I'll take that that as a compliment. Clarissa, you ready?" (Allister)
"Yes teacher! I mean... Bestie..." (Clarissa)
Usually, Lisa would have someone drive her to school but since Allister refused to join her and the fact that Clarissa wanted to look like a normal student, she decided to do the same. She couldn't contain her excitement after realizing she wasn't only going to just hang out with her uncle but also go to school with him as well.
Once they made their way to the train station, she ran into her other 2 friends who happened to be vampires, thanks to the new queen in charge.
"Lisa!" (Bree)
"Oh!! Vampires are in the house!" (Emma)
"Say what!?" (Lisa)
Allister stared with an annoying look as the girls danced around in a circle.
"What's the matter?" (Clarissa)
"They're annoying." (Allister)
"I find their friendship to be... cute" (Clarissa)
"Hey Clarissa! Oh, and of course good evening to you, Mr. Allister. I must say, you are very handsome today. You know, our class is going to be so much fun with you, Lisa, and I." (Bree)
"Let's just go." (Allister)
"No fair! I wish I was a third year with you guys! I hate being younger." (Emma)
"That's ok Emma, you get to be with me, Jorge and Chris." (Clarissa)
"Ahh, Christine~ She's such an angel." (Emma)
"I know right! I hope she's wearing the skirt I got her." (Clarissa)
Allister tried to walk slower in order to get away from them but they kept matching his pace.
-------------------------------------------------------
School was finally in session. From above, you would assume it was some kind of university, but it wasn't. Arianna academy was said to be the largest high school in all 4 domains. Getting in required good test scores or good recommendations which our characters had. As class started, everyone was told by their teacher to introduce themselves.
"I'm Jorge, it's a pleasure to meet you! (Jorge)
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
"Emma! But you guys already know that and yes, my eyes are red now!" (Emma)
"She's a vampire now?" (?)
"So cool!" (??)
"Clarissa, I just. Moved here... From the Last Frontier... I HOPE WE CAN BE FRIENDS!" (Clarissa)
Her sudden outburst startled the class but made Jorge and Emma laugh in silence. As she sat down with watery eyes, it was the next girl that got everyone's attention.
"Good morning, my name is Christine and yes, my hair color isn't natural. I heard it was popular to do this out here, so I gave it a try. I hope it doesn't look bad... And I would totally want to be your friend Clarissa" (Chris)
"She's an angel" (???)
"More like a goddess!" (??)
"Please be my friend too." (????)
Their class for the day consisted of what the first day usually would be. Their teacher passed out a syllabus in order to allow everyone to prepare for what's to come. They had all the basic classes with the option to choose what electives they wanted. The only abnormal thing was when the teacher mentioned that they would have special classes coming in the middle of their school year which was martial arts and magic. Since the borders were now open and allowed for people to travel and/or leave. They figured teaching them how to survive was important.
Come lunch time, All the students surrounded Emma, Clarissa, and Chris. Once Jorge got up, the classroom door was kicked in, revealing Lisa, Allister, and Bree.
"Hey, you guys hungry?" (Lisa)
"It's Lisa. She so gorgeous!" (?)
"Who's that hottie with her? Wait I think I heard other students mentioning him this morning (????)
For lunch, Lisa led everyone to an abandoned classroom where no one would bug them.
"So... You're Alli..." (Jorge)
Before he could finish his sentence, Chris shoved him out of the way.
"Allister! You've been avoiding me all summer! Now tell me about my mom." (Chris)
"I wasn't avoiding you. I'd rather not get into it here but I'll tell you this for now... She's alive." (Allister)
"She's alive? But I still have so many questions!" (Chris)
Allister place his hands on her shoulder, assuring that all will be answer in due time.
"I know. How about this weekend Lets spend some time together. I'll tell you everything about her." (Allister)
"Ice cream or somewhere with sweets please" (Chris)
Jorge intervened, showing a face that said, "We still have questions."
"So, you're Jorge. Your sister says hi and prays that you're doing well. She's my other daughter but that doesn't make you, my kid. So, no. I'm not your dad. I adopted her just like Chris's mom." (Allister)
"My sister? Ericka? Are you a vampire?" (Jorge)
"Your other sister. Milly, and no. I'm not." (Allister))
"Milly... I see. Wait you know what I am then right?" (Jorge)
"In a sense... but it's better if you visited the Last Frontier. You'll find better answers there." (Allister)
"You too huh? Wait If you're not a vampire, what are you?" (Jorge)
"I really hate talking about myself." (Allister)
"I bet you're willing to tell Chris though!" (Jorge)
"Because she's family. I don't know you like that." (Allister)
Jorge face got red, but Allister ignored him. Arguing with a child was to tiring for him. Once lunch ended, Allister promised they would discuss more later on.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone went their separate ways. Just before they could go home, Chris and Jorge had one last training with Raymond.
"I got you now!" (Jorge)
Their training consisted of hand to hand combat. If they could use their power then it was find as well. Raymond versus them, Clarissa had yet matured enough to learn real combat other than self defense, after all, she had yet to decided on whether she wanted to be a vampire or not. When Jorge would get close, Raymond would easily dodge and kick him away. Chris, wanted to try longer range attacks with her magic but he spells weren't fast enough and were easy to dodge.
"This time for sure!" (Jorge)
Just at he thought he'd punched Raymond's stomach, and opening was made and his fist went straight through him.
"How the?" (Jorge)
"Never ask question about your enemy power, it leaves you with to many openings." (Raymond)
The lights were knocked out of Jorge. After he awoke, Raymond parted them with some advise.
"Jorge, You have skills, but it feels... like some is fighting you deep down. You need to get your mind under raps, especially if you ever want to use your gift. Chris, magic is in your blood, but you also seem to have something else running through you. Its good to practice magic but don't neglect that other hidden skill... or skills." (Raymond)
"Do you really have to go?" (Jorge)
"There somethings back home that need to sign off before we help expand the Lost City. My job isn't to just maintain relations but also help with the migration of people. I'll see you guys again soon I'm sure" (Raymond)
"That skill you used... what was it?" (Chris)
"Blood magic. Cool right?" (Raymond)
Chris wanted to poke him some more be he wouldn't talk about it. After that encounter came the next day of school. although this was suppose to be the first lessons, they also had a short day for their school event. Which was a day when clubs could start recruiting. Jorge and Chris weren't interested and met up with every one back in the same class room from yesterday.
---------------------------------------
"Next question then. What the hell are vampires and magic?" (Jorge)
A vein popped out of Allister's head when Jorge kept shooting more and more questions at him.
"Wow, you're just like Kat. I thought my teaching days were done. It's only your second day in school. Ask your teachers." (Allister)
"Actually, they don't go that into depth when it comes to those subjects. You forget uncle, we had isolated ourselves from the world. Wait until next semester when newer teachers show up." (Lisa)
Jorge sat down in displeasure. There was so many other things that piqued his interest other than the school's basic academics. Allister sighed and decided to educate him a bit but only a quick summarized version of it.
"Lisa, you want to explain the vampire part?" (Allister)
"What? I'm eating lunch!" (Lisa)
She eventually caved in and walked up to the board at the front of the classroom with Allister. The others sat down and began eating their lunch, staring in awe. As Lisa spoke, Allister was drawing in the background.
"Listen up noobs, there are 3 different types of vampires. Noble vampire, half breeds or if you'd like, Dhampirs, and last but not least, lesser vampires. Characteristic for noble vampires are our black hair and red eyes whereas lesser vampires only have red eyes. " (Lisa)
"Oh, I have a question! What about Selena? She has black hair and blue eyes?" (Jorge)
Lisa grabbed a piece of chalk and threw it at a Jorge's forehead leaving him crying in pain.
"I wasn't done talking! and she's currently our queen. Show some respect! Where was I? Oh yea, half breeds are unique... They share some of our characteristic or none at all." (Lisa)
Allister spoke in between her explanations.
"The concept of a half breed is the same for you and your convict buddies. One vampire parent. Also, like Lisa mentioned earlier, they're usually called Dhampirs, but it doesn't really matter." (Allister)
"I see, so one parent is a vampire, and the other isn't." (Chris)
"Pretty much but it's more complicated than that. Half breeds are still pretty rare among us. It wasn't until my dad took over that vampires were even allowed to breed with others. Therefore, I would label them as Noble Dhampir and lesser Dhampir." (Lisa)
"Are they stronger than noble vampires?" (Chris)
"It depends on their fighting abilities. Noble Dhampirs have the potential because one of their parents was a noble vampire. For example... The queen. Lesser dhampirs could be strong or weak. Take Raymond for example. His family lineage started because they were turned into vampires. Clarissa's great grandmother married a noble and had a child. That child eventually married a human and had Raymond. His capabilities could make him look like a noble dhampir but as their lineage grew... it also weakened, which explains Clarissa who looks more human than vampire because again, Raymond married another human which diminished the bloodline" (Lisa)
"My head hurts." (Jorge)
"I see. How do you categorize them?" (Chris)
"Simple, the other parent's lineage" (Lisa)
"Magic." (Chris)
"Bingo! Did you know that vampires can have 2 different abilities?" (Lisa)
"Her majesty and Raymond called their abilities... Blood magic." (Chris)
"Yes! One is called blood magic while the other is called vampiric magic or skill! Blood magic is only possible when one parent comes from a magic lineage. That's where the term half breed ties in as well because we can't use magic like you can Chris. It's more like internal magic like Jorge's which involves our blood. I can turn my blood into Iron and use them as weapons whereas the queen uses hers to produce sound. It's said my dad could fuse his own blood with his shadows in order to make it come alive." (Lisa)
That would explain Raymond... I thought I killed him at the medical facility, but it was never him. Can he make clones? Or was he able to turn into blood itself? It has to be the latter because if he could make clones, he wouldn't have wasted his time fighting us one on one. (Chris)
Chris sat there in deep thought, the information she got was truly a treasure trove. She doesn't expect to ever fight her new vampire friends but they're not the only vampires out there. So, this information was useful in more ways than just understanding Lisa and the other a little better.
"What's vampiric magic?" (Chris)
"That's an ability passed down from our ancestors which they got by... Uh..." (Lisa)
"I can answer that. The first vampires were said to have been turned by a demon. It is said that this demon either bestowed his own powers or helped amplify theirs. If I'm correct, Julie's family were decedents of warriors known as the knights of the round. Knights whose house symbols were forever engraved onto their bodies. Each generation carries these markings. I won't leak their abilities but when it comes to the sword, they're very skilled." (Allister)
"..." (Chris)
"Now I remember! Before the noble families were cut down to 4, they each carried different abilities. One could turn into monstrous bats while others were weak in the sun but powerful at night. My family, the Chronicler's have the ability to remember and retain all the information and experiences we've gained during our time living without any draw back but since we're not adult vampires yet, it's recommended that we transfer our memories into writing, so we don't go to crazy or at least the parts that aren't important. It was once said that we helped record the history for other vampires but no thanks." (Lisa)
After Lisa's explanation ended, Allister explained the rest to them when it came to demons. How his aunt said that all monsters were born by getting gifts or curses from summoning demons.
Lisa's eyes widened when she heard this, the conversations she had with her brother brought even more questions now.
Wait a minute. Allister is pretty much human, and Gabriel said our dad didn't have a family lineage when it comes to his vampire origin... and yet he has black hair and red eyes... Is it possible that he... but that would make him a royal vampire. I didn't mention those type of vampires because I thought they were extinct and there would be no point. It would explain how he was able to kill the others. (Lisa)
"Humans with one magical parent can't use external magic like me? I'm only good at using water, does that mean I'm only limited to that?" (Chris)
"It's possible to still be born with the ability to use magic but it's very rare and no. You have the ability to use many forms of magic, but most mages tend to stick with the one's their best at. I say mages but don't be surprised if someone calls you a witch." (Allister)
"Some of our friends have some unique abilities. Is it possible for others to have them as well? What about the ones who can turn into animals?" (Jorge)
"No. Perhaps some can be categorized as unique, but I doubt they're the first. I heard you had what? immense strength? Your ability is very ordinary, and it can feel like others have that power too, but they just come in different forms. It's your skills as a fighter that makes you different. Also, I'd prefer not to go into details on the history of how people turning into animals started but yes, that is internal magic. The animal they change into is a reflection of their soul. The cool thing is that they can change into many different animals! Although, it takes hard work and hasn't been seen for a long time." (Allister)
"What's the most you've ever seen some one do?" (Clarissa)
"8, but it wouldn't be abnormal for someone to at least accomplish 3 at most and...." (Allister)
Before Allister could finish, the bell rang, signaling to everyone that their lunch was over. Allister yelled in anger because he realized that he never got the chance to touch his meal. Once everyone walked to class, he pulled Jorge and Chris to the side.
"If you guys are truly curious about learning magic... You should visit the magic kingdom. I hate to say it but it's your destiny. Better do it sooner than later. Chris, you know who's there waiting for you, I mean... If you saw the broadcast over the summer. I'm currently here to do a job on top of other things. One thing I didn't mention is that even though they can turn into animals. They can never turn into wolves. One person I'm tracking is a higher level than your average wolves. He should be able to break just about anything with his teeth or claws. Got any ideas who?" (Allister)
They knew, but they couldn't tell him. Chris trusted Allister but just like Jorge, they could tell that he was very powerful and were worried that if he ran into Alex. It wouldn't end well, especially if Alex tried to go down without a fight.
"No.." (Jorge)
"Sorry..." (Chris)
Once they got to their class, everyone were in groups looking down at their desk. Jorge and Chris couldn't figure out what was going on. The teacher tried to get the students to sit back down but their attention was focused elsewhere, their phones. Such technology was only brought over to the Lost City after their relationship with the Last Frontier was built. Although they weren't a poor looking city, they were at least 100 years behind when it came to the technology the Last Frontier had, especially since they didn't lock themselves away from the rest world.
"Hey what going on?" (Jorge)
"Guys you won't believe it. New Beginning hacked one of the broadcast stations. They're about to Announce something." (Clarissa)
Jorge and Chris looked at each other in disbelief but one Clarissa showed them her the video on her phone, New Beginning began speaking. The video showed static and eventually a man if a blacked mask appeared. His surrounding was painted black, making it appear as if only his head was present.
No one dared to ignore his words or feign ignorance. It was what came after that caused everyone to gossip and fear these groups abilities.
The video ended. Everyone across the two cities talked. Some wished for change while others got angry at the threats being sent to their queen who help established the Last Frontier. Some just hoped that if some civil war was to begin, that it wouldn't destroy their homes and their lives. Other more important figures decided they might need to prepare.
--------------------------------------------------
"Your highness?" (Abigail)
"So. That was New Beginning? William is lucky he left. Leaving this mess for Selena, truly deserves punishment. Allister is there, right? They'll be fine. They threatened me so I'm sure he plans on protecting me but still... We must prepare. Call in everyone." (Mabel)
"As you wish." (Abigail)
--------------------------------------------------
"New Beginning. Interesting.” (Allister)
"Those fools. They just ruined her majesty’s plan. We have no choice but to kill them now if they're wiling to go that far.” (Lisa)
"Was that not always the plan?” (Allister)
"Selena was trying to preserve my sister’s plan. Whatever it was. Now I expect we’ll be called in for a meeting.” (Lisa)
"They threatened my fiancé. I suppose I need to do something now.” (Allister)
-------------------------------------------------------------
“Those idiots.” (Jorge)
"They plan on starting a war. But how were they able to broadcast all that?” (Chris)
"They must have hacked into the broadcast stations." (Clarissa)
"Hacked? But isn't everything run my magic?" (Jorge)
"No, you fool. Magic isn't used to solve all our problems. Supplying us with power such as electricity is just the start. Everything else requires human hands. But..." (Clarissa)
"What?" (Chris)
"We do use magic to help broadcast all the way out here. In other words, they already infiltrated the Last Frontier. They'll be deemed as true enemies and orders will be given to kill on sight." (Clarissa)
“We have to stop them.” (Jorge)
