Volume 2 Side story (1)
> "Good afternoon everyone! Welcome to annual magic tournament!" (Commentator)
>
> Everyone cheered, as the commentator stood on a floating platform. everyone was currently in an circle shaped arena with a center stage.
>
> "Now before we begin our first round, let us introduce our honored guest! With us today are various elders and above them is the magic queen herself. Violet Vasquez! (Commentator)
>
> Behind her were two guardians. The color Orange and Blue.
>
> "Thank you everyone for coming to show support for these students. Regardless of who wins and loses, being able to make it this far already shows their skills as mages! Fight with honor, and respect!" (Violet)
>
> Everyone began to cheer, once again.
>
> "Now Let us begin the first round. One your left is one of our very brightest, first year Denise Vasquez. On the right is our fourth year, known as Jeremiah Lopez!" (Commentator)
>
> As they both walked onto the stage, Denise looked level head, she wasn't bored, happy, nor worried while her opponent looked at her with anger.
>
> "Ridiculous. A first year making it this far. You may be related to the Vasquez but you have little to no magic. You might as well be like your father. I refuse to lose to a failure like you." (Jeremiah)
>
> "I'm not related to them by blood. I'm adopted. Besides, I'm not the only first year here and if I truly was a failure, I wouldn't be here." (Denise)
>
> They both took out magic tags that turn into weapons. Jeremiah use a metal staff while Denise has a silver sword. The look of her weapon annoyed him even more. Mages were known for staffs, wands, or just their hands but Denise specialized in combat. On top of that, she was still a first year so he knowledge of magic was limited.
>
> "Disgraceful. I show everyone here, how terrible you are." (Jeremiah)
>
> "I'd prefer it if you waited until after you defeated me when it comes to trash talking. It's only the first round so I don't wish show my opponents my hand yet." (Denise)
>
> Once the match began. Jeremiah stabbed his staff onto the ground.
>
> "Golem manipulation!" (Jeremiah)
>
> That's right... His specialty is earth. I'll just have to strengthen my sword with the skills dad taught me. (Denise)
>
> Denise jumped back when she felt the earth beneath her feat vibrate. Dodging by just a hair, A giant hand came from out from the ground, Denise wasn't fazed as she slid her finger down her blade. Imbuing a magic formula on her sword. To the naked eye, nothing was happening but but in reality, the sword was vibrating in a very high speed. Even while that was happening, Jeremiah was creating more golems to bolster his defense.
>
> "Just try to get near me. Failure." (Jeremiah)
>
> Denise got down on one knee and imbued her shoes with formulas as well.
>
> "Don't worry. It's already over." (Denise)
>
> She vanished from thin air and although Jeremiah couldn't trace her movements, the only thing he knew was that each one of his golems turned to dust as something passed by them. He felt a slight breeze hit his face and when he looked down, he found her kneeling down in-front of him.
>
> "You're magic was fun to watch. Sorry I didn't return the favor." (Denise)
>
> Denise used her hilt to hit his gut, sending Jeremiah flying back as he rolled and bounced across the ground. The match was over in 30 seconds. After the match ended, Denise ran out of the arena and back to the academy. Everyone wondered why she didn't stay, she only bowed to the queen and left. To most, it felt disrespectful but Violet only smiling, knowing she was heading to the one person she wanted to brag to.
>
> Within the academy, Allister was currently helping with with exams when it came younger mages. He and a few other teachers were tasked with deciding if they were qualified with joining their ranks. It was an early exam that only those recommended by special family's were given.
>
> By the time Denise got there, Allister was standing above a boy. On the other side of the room was another student who had severe burns.
>
> "You heard me right? You failed." (Allister)
>
> "Why? My magic was superior to his. I won!" (??)
>
> "Allister. He's not completely wrong. It may have been barbaric but his magic is strong and his family..." (?)
>
> "I care very little about power. It's skills I desire. This was a tryout and I refuse to accept anyone who fights like that. I can see it in your eyes... Darkness but if you'd like, I can show you true darkness." (Allister)
>
> The color in the boys face drained from his body as Allister walked away.
>
> "Maybe next time kid, after you learn to fight with respect. Although, you should hope that I'm your next grader." (Allister)
>
> "Dad!" (Denise)
>
> "Denise... You're back. How did the match go?" (Allister)
>
> "I won! I even used what you and mom taught me!" (Denise)
>
> "I'm not surprised at all." (Allister)
>
> "You should have seen it! My writing got faster! Wait what just happened back their?" (Denise)
>
> "A kid who who enjoying treating his enemy like roaches. It grossed me out." (Allister)
>
> Denise looked behind her father as the boy ran out the hall in anger but she didn't care. After all, her father knew best. This was just another day at the magic kingdom. Even though Allister could't use his magic, he still had the knowledge, enough to be recognized at a fellow teacher, regardless of his family background or his own.
Our story takes us back to a day when I finally convinced my adoptive daughter to go on a mission with me. She had been busy with school while I was doing my own secret work for the Magic Kingdom. I was able to convince my aunt to to bring a plus one, especially since it was just any random person.
"Dad. Remind me. Why are we walking through this forest again?" (Denise)
"I was given a mission, and you told me you wanted to tag along!" (Allister)
"I meant... Why are we walking when we can just fly? I don't enjoy mexico's forest." (Denise)
"You forget I can't use magic." (Allister)
Denise look at him annoyingly, since she could have just carried him but he always found it embarrassing. On top that fact, she also knew that Allister was hoping to turn this into some kind of stealth mission but the last thing she wanted to do was deal with the bugs that came with their current Tropical forest.
"These mosquitoes won't leave me alone! Begone!" (Denise)
With one wave of her hand, Denise used her magic to surround them with blades of wind as it blew and cut away everything around them.
"Now look what you did! We're exposed!" (Allister)
"Shut up!" (Denise)
Taking out a magic tag, Denise used it to create a staff. While grabbing onto Allister shoulder, she pointed it at the sky and took off.
"Look I just graduated from the academy, and I need to gain some brownie points in order to be picked as the next guardian." (Denise)
"Don't worry I have no doubt that you'll be picked." (Allister)
"Well, seeing how this mission was given to you, I'm sure it's important that we complete. Therefore, the sooner we do it, the more they'll respect me. I mean us." (Denise)
"Is this about your ranking in school?" (Allister)
"Well it's not even my final year and yet the girl who got first... Was picked while I got second place." (Denise)
Denise got angry just thinking about the girl who beat her by a few points and was lucky enough to be chosen as the next guardian. She told her Nana (grandma), who was also the current Magic Queen and Allister's aunt that she didn't want to be picked for family reason but rather her skills as a mage.
"So, you didn't get the color green. There'll be other chances. and other colors" (Allister)
"Right... I won't lie, she was exceptional but it still pisses me off... Wait, What's our mission again?" (Denise)
"Killing a rogue vampire and not just any vampire... A Noble." (Allister)
Allister looked down and noticed that not only had the wind blowing in his face stopped but also their movement.
"You're kidding right? We don't get involved in their affairs." (Denise)
"I'm aware of that." (Allister)
"After the war ended, a contract was signed that we wouldn’t intervene. Hell, we even cut off all communications with them. The only reason why we can trust each other is because they have a guardian. The color red." (Denise)
"Yea... About that... Look this wasn't my idea. May asked my aunt for help and she ordered me to deal with it." (Allister)
"Mabel? You mean the girl who worked with Nana in order to make you think it was some kind of an arranged marriage? Dad, she's bad news. She's just a fan girl who fell in love with you after you saved her!" (Denise)
"She's not that bad. She's actually pretty cool." (Allister)
"Is she? You had ghosted her for like what? A century? If her sister ever finds you..." (Denise)
"Don't worry. Mabel wouldn't tell anyone about me. Besides, she's a noble, so the last thing the royals want is to find out their princess is marrying a human." (Allister)
"Who also happens to be a demon? No offence mom." (Denise)
"Yes, there's that too... Whatever. Let's keep walking." (Allister)
She eventually gave in but that didn't stop her from complaining. After sometime, they began descending back down to the ground and continued their journey on foot. Denise still continued to blow away any mosquitoes.
"So, what's the story with this vampire anyways? They shouldn't be living this far south." (Denise)
"Well, it's just speculations, but I think he didn't want to catch anyone's attention if he had moved to the states or stayed in Canada. I'm referring to his own kind, hunters, or even the church. He came here because groups like the cartel have been able to get away with a lot of things. Apparently, this vampire started his own cult and is using some cult as a front to ward off any suspicions. At least that's what my aunt said... They're called the Scholars of Eternal Survival." (Allister)
"I see and why are we walking again?" (Denise)
"Because I can't fly without any magic." (Allister)
"That's not... I mean why aren't we driving at least? I only stopped flying to conserve my magic but you couldn't secure us a car half way." (Denise)
"Obviously because this far south wouldn't have roads. You think the cartel wants the police finding them?" (Allister)
That makes no sense though. How will their business thrive if they have no transportation... (Denise)
"Also because were close." (Allister)
"To what?" (Denise)
"There's a small town nearby. The chief and his family has ties to the kingdom and they're the ones who tipped us off. Even though we keep our selves hidden..." (Allister)
"People with magical backgrounds are still born around the world. Also, it doesn't hurt to have connection if it builds up our protection. We help them, they help us." (Denise)
He winked at her as if saying "Bingo" and yet she still couldn't help but poke holes in her father's previous logic. Even if Denise told him that, she was worried he would sulk. Eventually, she decided to teach him a lesson but before she could speak, a gun was fired which hit Allister in the forehead, killing him instantly.
"Head shot..." (Denise)
"¿Quién va allí? [who goes there?]" (?)
A group of villagers surrounded them as they all berated Denise with questions in which she responded back in spanish.
"Lo siento, pero no queremos hacerte daño. [I'm sorry but we mean you no harm.]" (Denise)
"Si eso fuera cierto, entonces no habrías estado viajando por estas partes a pie como los insurgentes. [If that were true, then you wouldn't have been traveling through these parts on foot like insurgents.] (?)
"Idiot." (Denise)
"What was that?" (??)
Denise was surprised to hear someone speaking English. Regardless, even though Allister was too lazy to learn Spanish, her Nana made sure Denise definitely learned it. When she realized she was surrounded, Denise surrounded her self in a ring of fire. Everyone was startled but all they could think was "Monster".
"Sorry, I was talking to myself because I was an idiot for moving in on you guys like that but I should warn you. I won't be easy to kill." (Denise)
With one finger pointed up at the sky, a little flame appeared but everyone was ordered to stand down when a boy came running.
"Don't hurt them! I'm Carlos." (Carlos)
"... Fair enough." (Denise)
With the movement of one hand, the flames vanished.
"Your from the magic kingdom right? My father told me you would be coming... Ah, don't worry... Everyone here is fully aware of you guys. I'll explain everything back in our town." (Carlos)
As they walked back on foot, everyone was curious about Denise and what she could. Carlos on the other hand wanted to more about her flames. Even after their encounter, no one talked about Allister, they even left his body laying there.
"Hey I couldn't help but notice that you used fire? but it didn't feel hot..." (Carlos)
"That's because it was real. I used illusion magic. I was born with very little magic but the stuff I can use, well... Lets just say its tailored more for physical combat. Illusion magic doesn't require much strength, I simply spread it around me like a fog." (Denise)
"I don't really understand but I know what illusions mean. So you know who your facing right? You look to be the same age as me." (Carlos)
"My dad told me gave me the details. Sort of... but don't worry. I may look young but I'm one of the best in my school, and I learned from the best." (Denise)
Everyone face brightened up, even if they never seen her fight, just the confidence was enough to reassure them. Denise could tell that these people needed help. When they got to their destination, Carlos guided her to his families home when he introduced her to his father.
"Can I call you chief? (Denise)
Before they got down to business, Denise had explained everything to them, how they were traveling and how Allister thought driving would prove useless.
"So that was father? I'm so sorry!" (Carlos)
"Don't worry about. I'm sure he'll be fine. He's tough to kill." (Denise)
" You are very forgiving, regardless. Thank you. Moving on, a group moved in nearby and has been messing with the people who live around here. If you had come by car, we could have stopped you and asked questions but walking in like you did, gave us no choice but to react aggressively." (Chief)
"Thats why we came. We're here to deal with this group." (Denise)
"Just so you know. They're not really gangs. They're monsters and with just you..." (Carlos)
"What my son is also trying to say... Is that there's more than one. We've been dealing with with not only a vampire, but mages as well." (Chief)
"Interesting... My father forgot to mention that. Regardless, We specialize in killing monsters." (Denise)
"Can you prove it?" (Chief)
"A demonstration perhaps?" (Denise)
"You see... The vampire sends out one of his henchman to find more soldiers for his cult and today is one of those day. He comes in at night and orders me to give someone up. Usually we all come together and decide as a team but..." (Chief)
"No problem. That stops today." (Denise)
After Denise left. She had also learned about the group's location. They even offered a car. She helped calm them down about killing Allister. Once nighttime came, she sneaked out and placed a note on his corpse in order help him understand what happened and where to go next once he revives back. Back at the town, people were making their own special meal leaving the door open for others to visit. Every one was in high spirits thanks to Denise. She ate but decided to spend her time outside in case the enemy came.
It wasn't until a little later that Carlos stopped by to give her some company.
"Do you mind if keep you company?" (Carlos)
"Be my guest." (Denise)
"So can you use a ton of spells?" (Carlos)
"Curious, aren't we? Magic is complicated. Only a special few can use magic with out formulas but its still the fundamental bases to all magic. Mages are usually born with a high IQ so remembering those formulas can be very easy but even were limited when it comes to the mind. Nowadays, most mages only try to remember the spells they love and use the most. You don't need to draw it but rather remember it like an image. I keep a magic tome for help sometimes." (Denise)
"That's amazing..." (Carlos)
Denise stopped him mid-sentence by placing her hand over his mouth.
"I sense a mage approaching." (Denise)
"Does he know you're here?" (Carlos)
"No. My magic is strong but I'm also concealing it. Get inside. I'll stop him before he reaches you guys." (Denise)
Just before the entrance to the town, A man walked with no care in the world. Not once believing that someone would intervene in his masters plan.
"I wondered what became of you... Jeremiah" (Denise)
He looked up but all he could see was a shadowy figure. It wasn't until the moon shined that he figured out who it was.
"Denise Vasquez" (Jeremiah)
"So you work for a vampire now? Usually we don't hunt our own kind if they choose to leave the kingdom but if they decide to cause trouble. Its only natural we put them down." (Denise)
Jeremiah didn't waste anytime. He shot a rock that went right her but Denise's figure turned into a fog that blew away.
"Illusion magic. Second year magic. It seams you haven't been kicked out of school for being a loser. Being a Vasquez has its benefits." (Jeremiah)
He turned around to find Denise standing there. He didn't question it, she was real.
"What about you? No wand? You've gotten better or rather, good enough to shoot pebbles." (Denise)
"Shut up!" (Jeremiah)
He pulled out a tag in order to use his staff. Denise stared feeling like this reminded her of that day but she was no longer the same person as well. Rather than her usual sword like back then, she took out a magic tag, dyed in black.
"What is that color?" (Jeremiah)
The tag turned into a black sword wrapped in chains that crumbled away.
"Its a present from my parents. I'm still trying to learn its powers but I haven't really had a chance to use it on anyone. Want to be the first?" (Denise)
"Fuck you! Golem manipulation!" (Jeremiah)
The ground beneath his feet extended out as it turned into a snake, shooting right at her. Denise moved like an acrobat, easily dodging it but she never expected it to use its tail as well. When she jumped over, she noticed a boulder heading her way that knocked her back.
"Don't think that you can still beat me with just a sword! You're going to need more than that!" (Jeremiah)
"You're right... There's also a reason why I learned illusion magic because of this." (Denise)
She poured magic onto her blade that release a black fog and with wind magic, spread across the area. Jeremiah didn't feel any different until it hit him.
"Tell me. What is it that truly scares you?" (Denise)
She spoke to him but he didn't respond. When he talked, it wasn't a reply but as if he was talking to some one else.
"You... Dam angel! How dare you humiliate me! Those dam golden eyes!!" (Jeremiah)
Angel? What is he going on about? (Denise)
Jeremiah scream in panic, usually when one faced their fears, they would dropped down to their knees or faint but in his case, he swung his staff like a maniac has the golems rampaged, attacking a specific spot. She could no longer watch and ending quickly, a clean slice through the neck. Watching his head roll down on the ground, Denise looked at her blade.
"Dad, What exactly did you make me?" (Denise)

While all of that was happening, the city of Nova Scotia which would eventually be named as the Lost City, was planning to deal with the vampire issue as well.
"You called for me?" (?)
A woman with bright red hair walked into their room where many vampires were. Her eyes shined a deep blood red, just like everyone else who sat around a large table. Only one of them stood up and answered her question.
"We figured out the location of the traitor known as Gregory Damon." (??)
”I see." (?)
"Is there a problem? Do you feel sympathy for him?" (??)
"No. He was a fool to try and challenge us. Hopefully Gabriel won't cry when I leave, and I know my husband promised we would try for another but it's alright. He won't mind if I leave. Sorry go on." (?)
The room was silent, they didn't know how to respond even though she was only talking to herself. Their plan was to send her, but they had yet to even bring up the issue.
"You are our strongest vampire. Go forth before the magic kingdom gets their hand on one of our own. Since you are the bridge between our two worlds, they won't have a problem if you interfered." (??)
The bridge? really? Well, I'll let Mabel know so the Magic queen can get ahead of this and calm down the elders when a vampire enters their territory. (?)
"Cool. Leave it me." (?)
"Arianna" (??)
The woman was about to walk out until she was called.
"Make sure no witnesses are left alive. If he created any vampires, they are to be wiped out. Including anyone from the magic kingdom." (??)
"Leave it to me." (Arianna)
--------------------------------------------
"Thanks Carlos. you guys are amazing. Good to know there are still kind people in this world." (Denise)
"We should be the ones thanking you! You saved us!" (Carlos)
Denise said her goodbyes and drove off. After a few miles, she called out to her father who was secretly hiding in the back seat. Allister popped his head out to make sure the coast was clear.
"I was worried you weren't going to make it." (Denise)
"I decided to play dead until they left but, I wasn't expecting kids to come and poke my corpse with a stick. So how was the fight?" (Allister)
"Boring. Although, I learned a new thing about your blade. Had I not used it, maybe I could have enjoyed the fight more." (Denise)
After half an hour, they finally switched places when it came to driving and Denise was back at it with questions.
"You told me why he's hiding but why did he leave?" (Denise)
"Vampire can be very strict when it comes to their own kind." (Allister)
"Who isn't?" (Denise)
"They have rules." (Allister)
"So do we." (Denise)
"Can I talk please?" (Allister)
Denise laughed when Allister got frustrated. He would easily get annoyed whenever she replied to everything he said.
"It's not like vampires can't live their own but why do you think there's a negative side effect to it?" (Allister)
"Easy. They can produce more vampires." (Denise)
"Exactly. The last thing they need is one of their own, going mad with power and potentially causing a war. The last thing monster's need is one of the two worlds being aware of the other." (Allister)
"Whatever. So, what makes this guy dangerous? Other than making more vampires?" (Denise)
Allister smiled and decided to play a little game.
"Quiz time. What do you know about Nobles? Correction, what do you know about Royal vampires and their families?" (Allister)
"They were humans who summoned a demon in order to gain power and immortality. Whether it was good or not, they ended up becoming vampires... The demon gave each of the humans who summoned him a part of his power. Currently unknown on what all their gifts are or who is part of which family, but I was told they can range from turning into a beast, controlling blood, or enhanced prowess." (Denise)
"Not bad. It seems I wasn't the only one who studied under my aunt." (Allister)
"Is that not normal?" (Denise)
"Just don't go bragging about it." (Allister)
"I can't help it. She enjoys teaching me." (Denise)
"That women..." (Allister)
"I got it. What can this vampire do? I heard vampires have two skills. Blood magic and the gift they were given which is vampire magic." (Denise)
She decided to interrupt before he went off into his own little world.
"This vampire goes by the name of Gregory Damon." (Allister)
"Ok... So, what can he do?" (Denise)
"Alone? Absolutely nothing but... His family is able to make their own special type of vampires. The more followers he has, the stronger he gets." (Allister)
"In other words. if he keeps creating these things, they will be his source of power... What can those vampires do?" (Denise)
"You can treat them as savage beast. They don't really have a mind of their own, unless he Allows them too." (Allister)
Once they felt like they were close enough to their destination, they ditched their car and set off on foot.
"Stop." (Allister)
"I know. I can sense their blood lust too. We're not even close to their camp... Is he that worried about people coming after him?" (Denise)
"It's possible." (Allister)
Allister had Denise crouch down with him. While they were talking, he began analyzing his surroundings in order to get a good calculation on how many people were nearby. Their movements felt strange, Allister felt like they were surrounding him and once he figured it out, he shoved Denise out of the way the moment one of the minions jumped in between them.
"Denise, are you ok?" (Allister)
"I am now." (Denise)
With one fell swoop, Denise sliced the vampire's head with the sword given to her by her parents. She looked at the body noticed they didn't look human. Their skin looked pale and they resembled gargoyles with out wings.
"Dad... This creature... You don't think..." (Denise)
"That they're potentially similar to a hive mind?" (Allister)
"Sorry Allister. But I need some action. Let's go honey." (Lupe)
With out a warning, the demon in Allister took over his body and joined Denise's side.
"I was wondering when you were going to show up, mom. Thank you for not killing Carlos by the way." (Denise)
Once they were surrounded, an all-out brawl began. By the time the fight was over, Allister clothes and face was covered in blood. He usually avoided having Lupe interfere since her way of fighting was considered, too gruesome. Although she could have easily defeated the enemy from a distance, Lupe enjoyed playing with what she called, "food". The truth is, since Allister and Denise first set off on this mission, Lupe had been nagging at him to let her fight and talk to Denise but...
"This is exactly why I said no! The last time you took over, I was completely covered in blood. It was so bad; I could taste it! I'm sure you even bit some people." (Allister)
"Come on dad, Mom needed that for nourishment. I'm sure they deserved it." (Denise)
Exactly. (Lupe)
Shut up! (Allister)
Denise smiled; she knew they were fighting but Allister tried to play it off by not showing it. Now it was clearly obvious that they were arguing inside his head.
"More importantly. Was killing a few of them meaningless or not?" (Allister)
What do mean?" (Denise)
Think Denise. If they're ability is similar to a hive mind... then chances are, he knows we're coming. (Lupe)
When it came to Allister, They promised to share each other's bodies but when it came to Denise, they would switch with out each other's consent.
"Exactly. Maybe he created so many soldiers that he didn't even feel it or then again... Maybe he felt a decrease in his power." (Allister)
"We should assume the worst, but it won't change the mission." (Denise)
Allister agreed and they continued their journey towards Gregory's location, but Allister wanted to clean himself first.
-----------------------------------------
"My lord, is everything alright?" (?)
Currently the vampire Gregory was lost in thought as his servant's briefed him on their current state and their next plan of action.
"Yes. It seems some of my minions were wiped out. We have intruders." (Gregory)
"You don't think?" (?)
"The same person who took out Jeremiah? Yes. But there's another." (Gregory)
"The Royal family?" (?)
"No. They were human but one of them had a black eye. I'm curious to find out who and what he is... Send the Gonzalez siblings. Tell them, dead or alive if it can't be helped." (Gregory)
"Very well." (?)
-------------------------------------------
While all that was happening, Arianna decided to pay her little sister a visit. Mabel was currently the acting president for a fortune 500 company based out of New York City. An area that would soon be a part of the Last Frontier. A kingdom she would eventually help establish and help to defend against the Soulless. The money she would gain from the company would help restore the soon to be fallen city. She was currently filling out paperwork for future construction projects. She enjoyed having the lights in her office off with one single candle lit, it helped her focus. The moment the flame from the candle flicked, she knew she had a visitor.
"Sister. I figured they would send you. How did you get here so fast." (Mabel)
"A new trick I learned. It's pretty much teleportation. So, who's currently going after Gregory?" (Arianna)
Mabel tried not to show the slightest twitch, but it was too late.
"I know you sister. You can't hide it from me. Don't worry, I won't tell dad about it. In fact, I came here because I know you've been in cahoots with the Magic Queen. I need you to tell her that I plan on getting involved." (Arianna)
"I see. They sent you because you're a guardian. They forget that it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. She chose you because of your skills and because the previous holder of the eyes deemed it necessary." (Mabel)
"You're stalling. Meaning, you don't want me to kill whoever it is the queen sent." (Arianna)
"I don't know what you're talking about." (Mabel)
Mabel tried to look away in anger but her blushing face and shaking, gave away everything.
"It's him, isn't it? The boy who ghosted you for nearly a decade and broke your heart? I can kill him." (Arianna)
"No wait. We finally met and it went great. He even told me his name although..." (Mabel)
"What did he say?" (Arianna)
"He told me his name was John Smith..." (Mabel)
"I'll definitely kill him." (Arianna)
"No! Don't worry he's just an idiot... I knew it was fake to begin with. He's just not too keen on opening up yet because well... I don't think he knows but I could tell. He has a demon inside of him." (Mabel)
"What? Mabel. It's bad enough you're seeing a human... and now you're telling me he's possessed?" (Arianna)
How is he even alive? Did the queen pull some strings? Is there a connection between this idiot calling himself John and her? Perhaps she has some other reason for keeping him alive... Would David know about him? (Arianna)
"Fine, I'll see for myself if he's perfect for you. Where's Abigail? I figured she would have knocked some sense into you. Oh wait, she's back home, isn't she?" (Arianna)
"Yea, something about an arrange marriage with Will. He's probably just trying to make more super children who can rival yours. How is Elizabeth?" (Mabel)
"Amazing. She the first vampire child to have never gone through a deep sleep. In fact, Selena only slept once. David wanted to send them to school but they want to wait on their friend Julie so he's home schooling them." (Arianna)
"amazing indeed... By the way, the blood you gave me. I thought it was weird, but I haven't craved blood since I drank it." (Mabel)
"Cool right? Its revolutionary. I thought it was just the power from the queen, but the magic actually changed my genetics. David knows more than me. when he tries to explain it, he tends to geek out. Make sure Abigail drinks it too. We already made Viles for the kids." (Arianna)
"Its hard to believe you're a guardian... You know... This can change everything we know." (Mabel)
Arianna flicked her forehead and gave a look saying "Obviously".
--------------------------------------------
Back where Allister and Denise were, piles of bodies and blood was spilled all around them.
" That makes what? 20?" (Denise)
"Yea but they stopped. I wonder what happened." (Allister)
"Who cares, we're getting closer. Look!" (Denise)
Denise pointed in the direction, which was behind Allister and from a distance, they were able to make out the tip of a roof that was a part of Gregory's mansion. Once they started walking the voice of 2 men were heard from a distance.
"Hey big brother. Isn't that?" (Young Gonzalez)
"Yea. It's the teacher who ruined our lives. Allister Vazquez" (Older Gonzalez)
Allister didn't recognize the voice, but he remembered the older sibling once he saw him. Although he never met the younger one, their resemblance was uncanny. What really caught his eye was his red eyes.
"I heard you started working for the cartel. I stopped you from entering the academy and this is how you turned out? Most kids would have just tried again next year." (Allister)
"Shut up!" (Older Gonzalez)
"Dad. Isn't he?" (Denise)
"Yup, When I helped out with the entrance exam. Unfortunately, he wasn't cut out for it. The only skill or rather... The only thing he tried to learn was fire magic. On top of that. he engraved his own pawns with a magic formula that allowed him to melt anything he touched. Something he learned from rogue sorcerers. Its type of black magic but not as dark. He figured almost killing a student would allow him to pass." (Allister)
The older brother got angry listening to Allister, bringing up the past just made him remember how his life turned out after words.
"The family that adopted my sick brother and I abandoned us after that. So, I had to find other ways to survive..." (Older Gonzalez)
"And you decided joining a gang would be best? No, more like you figured a rogue vampire would be the best solution for saving your brother." (Allister)
"Yes. His highness Gregory saved us. He wanted me to stay human since my abilities were deemed useful." (Older Gonzalez)
The parent and child duo ignored him after he started making threats and discussed who would take who.
"You never fought a vampire, right? Now's your chance." (Allister)
"When did you fight one?" (Denise)
"Kid, I've been alive for a long time. I've seen the world. Besides, this could win you some brownie points." (Allister)
"That's true. I've always been curious. Alright, I'll take on the vampire." (Denise)
"Don't get cocky though. He's still a lesser vampire." (Allister)
"Shut up. Where's mom?" (Denise)
"Resting. She wants to fight the noble." (Allister)
"Don't ignore me!" (Older Gonzalez)
The older sibling dove down to them. He released enough magic that flames engulfed the surrounding area, wiping away everything in its path. Allister was fast enough to use his ability to cover himself in an invisible field whereas Denise used defensive magic to shield herself. The older one ignored her and ran straight for Allister, which was always his plan since the younger one already chose his target as well.
"Don't worry about my brother because you got me." (Young Gonzalez)
The younger one swung down his arm in the hopes of tearing apart hers, but Denise avoided it. While her body spun, she wasted no second when it came to summoning her black sword but when she swung, he was already gone.
He's fast. (Denise)
When she felt his presence., Denise switch to a defenses posture but his sudden kick forced her back a few yards. Denise stabbed her sword onto the ground in order to stop.
Dam. I was hoping for a good old fashion fight like speed chess or something, but I really have to plan this out... I can use magic that focuses on physical enhancement, but I was never good at that. At the very least, increasing my speed is all I'm really good for. Not to mention that I don't have a large capacity to begin with... Think Denise. (Denise)
"Frozen in fear, are we? Good, you should be. I was born with a weak body due to my magic being like poison to me but now I'm grateful because nothing beats being a vampire." (Young Gonzalez)
"Sorry. I was just wondering why your leader doesn't come out and fight. Is he afraid? Or perhaps he's just using his pawns to test our power first." (Denise)
"Let's end this." (Young Gonzalez)
----------------------------------------------
"Yes, keep on running teacher!" (Older Gonzalez)
The older sibling was shooting consecutive fire balls at Allister. With no other choice but to run and dodge, Allister focused his psychic abilities onto his body in order to become lighter. The moment he felt an opening, Allister threw a magic tag that created a gust of wind. The little distraction it provided, gave him a chance to attack. carrying two tags in each hand, they both took shape and formed into kukri like weapons. Making an X slash with his blades, only one cut was able to make it through while his other arm melted away the moment the older sibling grabbed onto it.
"Got you! Now I'm going to melt that face of yours!" (Older Gonzalez)
Allister focused his power and used it to push each other away. The Older sibling laughed as he got up and using two fingers to close his wounds.
"I can't believe someone who has practically no magic, told me that I didn't have the skills to enter. Relying on these dumb tags and powers from a demon. Granted, we also relied on a vampire for my brother but that's just a plus for staying alive whereas you couldn't help but reach out into the abyss for more power." (Older Gonzalez)
He grabbed onto the blade that was being held by a piece of Allister's arm and melted it.
"Your right. I committed the biggest taboo, but you know what? Who cares. I was still tasked with deciding if you passed or not and guess what? You sucked, so I failed you." (Allister)
"You son of a..." (Older Gonzalez)
"That's enough. This fight is over." (?)
--------------------------------------------
"This is so sad. Watching you try to kill and miss just breaks my heart." (Young Gonzalez)
From the Younger sibling's perspective, it looked as if Denise was getting frustrated as she kept swinging and missed.
"Now!" (Denise)
She gave one long swing but missed again.
"How boring." (Young Gonzalez)
Appearing behind Denise, he attempted to stab his hand through her, but Denise responded by taking out a magic wand that came out from the bottom hilt of her blade which she caught with the other hand and pointed it towards the younger sibling without turning around.
A wand? From the bottom of her swords hilt? (Young Gonzalez)
Small fire balls were released from the wand like bullets that pierce through his hands, even hitting his left eye.
"You bitch!" (Young Gonzalez)
Denise finally used magic to increase her speed and slid In front of the crying vampire. While on one knee, her sword was placed just beneath his crotch.
"You know what I never understood about vampires? In school they taught us that only a certain type of material or exposing your heart and destroying it can kill you. They never mentioned how demonic blades that can kill all monsters, is also another threat for you but then again... Not many people have parents as demons." (Denise)
"Wait..." (Young Gonzalez)
She cut him cleanly in half from the bottom up. His body turned to ash and blew away.
"I thank you vampire, for this amazing opportunity." (Denise)
Now I'm really curious about fighting a noble. I'll ask mom if I can join her. (Denise)
Once she started walking in order to meet up with Allister, A red needle hit the back of her neck. Denise felt electricity coercing through her.
I can't move... (Denise)
"Don't worry. I won't kill you yet." (?)
----------------------------------------
"Your name is Allister, correct?" (?)
"Cain. Why are you here." (Older Gonzalez)
Allister looked down towards the man's hand and found Denise passed out.
she's alive but her magic is being restrained... (Allister)
"Blood magic." (Allister)
"That's correct. I can shoot my blood like a needle and once it hardens, it can become a conduit for the electricity I produce. Like this." (Cain)
Cain shot multiple needles that hit Allister. The sensation that flowed through his body causes him to fall on his back. When Cain opened his mouth, clouds of smoke was released from his mouth as if his body was generating heat.
"It seems my master is very interested in you." (Cain)
"Where's my brother?" (Older Gonzalez)
"You don't know? This girl killed him." (Cain)
"What..." (Older Gonzalez)
The older sibling stared at Denise's limp body with rage, ready to kill them both.
"Don't use your Magic. If you do, you'll trigger the magic tags that were attached to your back." (Cain)
"Since when?" (Older Gonzalez)
"He has psychic abilities. He must have snuck them in when you were distracted. Nevertheless, the master doesn't want them harmed. It's an order." (Cain)
After Cain removed the tags, he had the minions drag the new prisoners to the mansion. While still paralyzed, they were also chained and thrown into the living room. Allister was just barely able to move his head and saw the man they were looking for. Gregory Damon, with black hair slicked back and red eyes, his suit made him look like a businessman, but the blood soaked into it destroyed that image.
"My apologies, I just got done feasting, so I haven't had time to change. Oh right, you can't talk, can you?" (Gregory)
"Sorry sir." (Cain)
"Cain, it seems we have another intruder. I wasn't able to see their face, but they've been killing a few of the minions just north of here. Deal with it." (Gregory)
"As you wish." (Cain)
After Cain left the house, Gregory Signaled to Gonzales as if telling him to "bring that weapon". When he caught on, a joyful smile appeared his face.
"Truth is Allister, you're not the first human I've met who has a demon. We have one in our city as well, but the thing is, I don't know how to kill him. In fact, it almost feels impossible. I fled because I hated restrictions. I plan to rule this country and in order to do that, I need power. I noticed the arm that was melted off had already grown back so it's obvious that you won't die so easily." (Gregory)
"I see... and the only thing standing in your way are people like me. So, you want to experiment on me? You aren't the first." (Allister)
"That's what I thought too but then I remembered something..."
Allister felt a cold sensation as if a ghost was nearby. Once Gonzalez walked into the room, he knew instantly what was in his hand even when it was covered. While that was happening, Denise was just waking up again.
"Who gave you that." (Allister)
"Oh, I think you know." (Gregory)
Micah... So, he's back. (Allister)
"Dad, what's he talking about?" (Denise)
"Wow, impressive for a human. Wasn't expecting you up. This demon is your father? That's hilarious. Since you don't know, I'll tell you. Have you heard of the holy war? It's a war that took place many centuries ago. Way before Mages and Vampires fought. You see, the church's main goal is to eradicate monsters. Of course, there were times when those idiots were just killing humans who were accused of being monster. The biggest problem were demons." (Gregory)
As he spoke, Gregory removed the cover and what was revealed was a long iron sword with holy symbols engraved on to it.
"You see, rumor has it that for every demon that is brought into this world, a holy warrior is also born. An angel if you will. These few chosen were born to vanquish the demons who left a part of themselves to roam the world." (Gregory)
Denise twitched, for she heard that word once before.
"Thanks for the lesson but why should we care?" (Denise)
"This sword was given to me by his opposite. Look at what it can do." (Gregory)
Gregory threw the sword straight at Allister, the moment it made contact with his chest, the screams he made showed how much pain it caused. The burning of his flesh created black smoke. The vampire was amazed, just holding the sword caused his own hand to burn as well.
"Dad!" (Denise)
------------------------------------------
"I don't see the intruder but clearly something went down here." (Cain)
He looked around and found dead minions everywhere. After scanning the surrounding area, the sensation of a single finger poking his back caused him to freeze.
"Don't bother turning peasant. You'll be dead before you know it. You only have two options. You can die quickly, free of pain or I can leave you here burning for an eternity until you finally kill yourself. All you need to do is tell me where Gregory is." (Arianna)
"There's a mansion just a few miles south from here. You can't miss it." (Cain)
"Thank you." (Arianna)
After finishing him off, Arianna made sure to burn the rest of the bodies, so no one ever finds them.
"Time to make an awesome appearance." (Ariana)
No wait... How should I do this... Busting through the front door would look cool but coming in through the window as shattering glass smacks people in the face and blinding them would be even more rad. Once they open their eyes, I'll be there... (Arianna)
-----------------------------------------------
Something in Denise lit up and allowed her to move. Clearly the death of the other vampire removed the paralysis.
That other vampire died? No matter, this is my chance (Denise)
She used magic to break free of the chains and poured magic into the ground which caused a wall of earth to sprout, cutting the room in half. Even though Allister stopped yelling, it was clearly shown on his face that he was still in pain. Denise instantly grabbed the blade and pulled it out and once he stopped shaking, she felt relieved.
They're alright... Thank god. This sword though... It feels nice (Denise)
After a few seconds, Allister was conscience again.
Their peace was cut short when Denise's wall was brought down and to make things worse, Gregory wasn't alone. He had made sure to call some extra minions, not because he couldn't handle it himself, he simply didn't want to deal with the sword.
"Hello again, human." (Gregory)
"Dad, rest up. I'll deal with them." (Denise)
When she readied herself, Denise felt an unfamiliar sensation from the sword. A small voice echoed in her mind saying, "Your wish is my command".
What's going on... is it because of my bloodline? (Denise)
"Kill her." (Gregory)
"Shield us and become light." (Denise)
When she positioned herself in a defensive posture, a shield of light was made that burned the minions the moment they touched it. Stronger monsters would have been able to escape with minor injuries, but the minions were so weak, they instantly turned to ash.
"Impossible... Don't tell me..." (Gregory)
"Don't worry sir, I'll fight her." (Older Gonzalez)
"Stop you fool! She's a descendent! You'll die!" (Gregory)
Wondering about Denise's next move, she smiled because of their worried faces and didn't hesitate to take out a tag from her back pocket. When she poured magic into it, the tag faded away and was replaced with the sword her father gave her. While the flashy move was happening, the holy sword in her other hand started to crack and broke into a million pieces.
"The sword broke!? But how? Why?" (Gregory)
"Because I told it too. It asked for a command, and I told it to destroy itself. I only need one sword and that's the one my parents gave me." (Denise)
Gregory was dumbfounded but once he regained his composure, he laughed and ordered the rest of him minions to attack.
"Dad, I hope you're ready for a fight." (Denise)
When she positioned herself, all the windows and doors were busted open. The sound reverberated throughout the house, leaving everyone confused.
"Above us." (Allister)
Allister looked at the ceiling as cracks began to form which eventually broke once something came crashing down. When the dust cleared, a woman stood before Allister and Denise; wearing a red robe, signifying she was a mage, but her hair and eyes were as red as blood.
"Shit..." (Gregory)
"You thought you could hide from us, Gregory... Wait, Who the hell are you guys?" (Arianna)
"We're from... the Magico Kingdom... Gregory is the one behind you." (Denise)
"I knew that." (Arianna)
I never expected Red to show up here... (Allister)
"Enough! I'm tired of all these interruptions! I'm killing those two!" (Older Gonzalez)
"Are you sure you should be approaching me like that?" (Arianna)
When the elder brother dashed after Denise and Allister, Arianna decided to step in between. He was willing to tear down anything that got in his way but as he got closer, he felt his surroundings getting warmer. The moment it hit him, his skin started to burn until the whole body combusted, turning to ash.
"You two should leave. Let me handle my own kind." (Arianna)
Arianna enveloped Allister and Denise in fire but they weren't harmed. When they opened their eyes, the scenery had changed, before them was a campfire and equipment as if someone had been camping out.
"What just happened?" (Denise)
"We were teleported. This fire has magic flowing in it. Interesting..." (Allister)
"Dad don't get any weird ideas. Who was that anyways? Was she..." (Denise)
"Don't worry, Lupe is already analyzing it for me. Oh her? Yea I've never met her but she's a Noble vampire and a Guardian." (Allister)
"Now that you mention it... I did see a painting of her at the academy." (Denise)
-----------------------------------
"Now it's just us two Gregory." (Arianna)
"So those fools sent you. I figured it would be your husband or William." (Gregory)
"Now that you mention it, tonight is movie night... And I'm stuck here spending it with you." (Arianna)
The room got warmer, and sweat was starting to appear on Gregory's face.
"This is bullshit! Why must I be targeted? These ridiculous rules got my father killed! We're nobles, why must we be restricted?" (Gregory)
"The royals chose to be vampires so they can live long lives, not to rule. There is no reason to rule, especially when the power humans carry can destroy the world. Your father was killed because he was secretly creating minions across the globe. I was hoping you would have understood the consequences." (Arianna)
"This world is going to end... The moment you brought that outsider and his brother in. You doomed us all." (Gregory)
"Don't insult my family. You'll die a slow death if it continues." (Arianna)
"Try it! My minions are in the hundreds! Kill her!" (Gregory)
"Did you forget who and what I am?" (Arianna)
Arianna's hair glowed red, looking like it was on fire. Once her whole body was covered in flames, it took the shape of a giant phoenix. She controlled her magic with the movement of her hands and turned it into a tornado that took in everything within a certain radius. The fire was so big that even Allister and Denise could see it. The only ones left unscathed was Arianna and Gregory, even the house was gone.
"Impossible." (Gregory)
"Oh Greg. You have no idea what I'm capable of because this is nothing. Nice knowing you." (Arianna)
She gathered the surrounding fired and focused its movement on Gregory's location. His defeated face was that of someone who had given up resisting.
----------------------------------------------------
"She's a vampire though, how is she capable of such magic?" (Denise)
"Well..." (Allister)
"The answer is, don't worry about it." (Arianna)
They were shocked, although the magic she released was enormous, they weren't expecting it to end that quickly. The real question on their mind was whether she was a friend or foe.
"I saved you guys, didn't I? What's your name anyways?" (Arianna)
"Denise Vasquez, this is my dad... Allister Vasquez." (Denise)
"Vasquez... What a small world..." (Arianna)
Arianna gave a warming smile but didn't reply when Allister asked why.
"I can sense holy magic coming from your wound. There's only one being that can be fatally wounded like that. In other words... You go by John Smith, right?" (Arianna)
"Hold on a second... I was just nervous about meeting Mabel." (Allister)
"Well. I'll let you live for now. Better not break my sister's heart. I need to get home before move night ends. See you around." (Arianna)
She blasted into the sky and flew away like a rocket. Later on, it would be described in the news as a possible UFO sighting but never discussed whether it was true or false.
----------------------------
"Babe I'm home." (Arianna)
"Mom!" (Liz)
"Aunty!" (Selena)
"Hey honey, you're home early... I mean dinner is ready! Just in time" (David)
A young Elizabeth came running up to her mother, begging to be picked up while David came walking out in a pink apron with Selena.
"What was that just now? Of course I would make it in time for movie night. Where's Gabriel and Damian?" (Arianna)
She opened up their rooms as David mentioned they were sleeping. Baby Gabriel was sound asleep and as well as the boy named Damian. She could only see the back of his head, even though the room was dark, his pure white hair was hard to miss.
"I see." What movie are we watching?" (Arianna)
"Dad said I could pick a scary one!" (Liz)
"Did he now?" (Arianna)
"Well..." (David)
"Yea, he said it would be ok since you wouldn't be here but now..." (Liz)
"Interesting." (Arianna)
"Well..." (David)
---------------------------------------------
When Allister and Denise got back to the car, she decided to ask the big question.
"The person who gave Gregory that sword... Was he trying to kill you?" (Denise)
"No. Killing me would mean he had to disappear as well. He just likes to make my life miserable." (Allister)
What's his name?" (Denise)
"Micah." (Allister)
"I see. You know. You could have told me about my family history. Clearly I have a connection to these... Angel. I don't care that mom is a demon. She knows that." (Denise)
"Sorry. The academy tries to avoid that topic until you were recognized as full-fledged mage. I guess we were just worried. What do you want to know?" (Allister)
"Everything please" (Denise)
Allister smiled as he closed his eyes to get some rest.
"Alright but let's get home first. I'm tired" (Allister)
