Chapter 68: Hope

While I was hanging onto this building, I checked to see my current surroundings.

Beneath me was still utter darkness which meant I was still pretty high in the air. There were a few other buildings surrounding me as well which did provide solid cover if no one was inside them.

The main issue was the building I was hanging off, there was nowhere to climb which meant I was completely stuck. The pain coursing through my body was also an issue, I had sustained too many major injuries.

My right hand was broken with the shoulder being dislocated. I looked at my left palm to see it was bleeding with burn marks all over it.

'I can't hang here all day. I need to get inside to heal or else I'll pass out from the pain...'

With there being nothing else to climb onto I needed to make a hole to throw my body into.

The material the building was made out of was extremely sturdy, I needed to generate a good amount of force for the material to break.

My left hand was far too fragile, since there are so many bones in a hand they are quite easy to break. An elbow however is a different story, it's one big solid bone that's extremely sturdy.

I smeared my feet against the wall to help relieve some of the stress my right arm was having.

I made sure my right arm was fully into the wall then procced to slam my left elbow right next to where my right arm was.

*BANG*

I saw spider cracks start to form, one more elbow strike and a section of the wall would break. I threw my elbow again using as much force as I did last time.

*BANG*

A portion of the wall broke which left a hole big enough for me to climb into. I quickly shoved both of my arms into the hole and pushed forward to send my body flying in.

I felt my body crash onto an uneven surface and felt a sense of relief flush over me.

'Fuck me that was close, I need to hurry and recover before that damn sun starts to come up.'

I slid my backpack off and tried looking for the small black container that had the special cream inside of it. With a quick search I found the container and used it to spread the cream all over my hands.

The extreme pain in my hands was starting to fade away, I looked at my hands to see the skin was actually regenerating.

I made sure I kept my body fully enhanced to help the recovery process while taking in the layout of the floor I was in. My sense of urgency never left, I knew danger was close by.

The floor itself was massive filled with to the brim the rubble, I looked up and saw most of the floors were completely destroyed.

All of the debris and rubble were all on this floor, it looked like a complete dumpster.

'I have pretty solid cover here, but that doesn't mean much if my opponent can make the building fucking collapse. Not only that but they can cancel out noise... A silent killer that specializes in mass destruction, normally that would be impossible.'

My only option was to run and escape, this being was far above my caliber.

I had no idea where my boss was either, for the moment I had the mindset of operating and surviving by myself. I couldn't worry about him, after all we agreed to not sacrifice ourselves for one another.

After a few minutes I felt the skin on my hands go back to normal, although my right hand was still broken.

It seemed like the cream wasn't able to mend broken bones, however it had done enough. I grabbed my right arm and popped my shoulder back into place.

*POP*

I moved my shoulder around and felt that it was good to go. I got up and started to move around the rubble to see if there was a way to enter the floor below me.

After a minute of searching, I simply gave up on looking for holes and decided I would be making my own to speed up the process.

I found a spot that only had a few pieces of rubble and started moving them around to see the actual floor.

I pulled out my sword with my left hand and stabbed it through. I then started to cut out a small hole and jumped through it. After landing I noticed this floor was much cleaner than the last, I quickly glanced around to see there was no way to get to floor beneath me that was close by.

I repeated the same process over and over again, sometimes there would be a hole nearby that I used but that only happened a handful of times.

After 20 minutes I finally reached the bottom of the building, I quickly exited the building while sheathing my sword. Once I was outside, I looked around to see the mist had gotten much thicker.

My vision was heavily limited, only being able to see around 50 feet now which was terrible.

The buildings destruction was most likely the cause of the mist getting much thicker, but I had to just deal with it. Once I thought about where to go, I realized how bad my current predicament was.

I had no clue on where to actually go, I was completely lost and there was nothing I could do about it.

I wasn't able to send pulses to get a route and I could barely see anything meaning I had no sense of direction. I heavily relied on my boss for navigation, he was my lifeline here.

'I'm an idiot! These damn old habits of mine are biting me in the ass... I need to find him immediately before it's too late.'

I knew I was facing the direction of the collapsed building, it was directly in front of me.

I started drawing a map inside my head using the context clues I gained while I was airborne. I flew directly straightforward crashing through one building, this meant there was only one building between me and the collapsed one.

I never saw my boss when I was falling, meaning he went a different direction to escape. The questions I had were which direction and how far has he gone from that position with all the time that has passed.

'Too many unknowns, accurately pinpointing him is impossible. Moving around may not be a smart idea since I can't really tell what's around me. It's risky, but I'll have to send out my mana from here hoping my boss will be able to pick it up. If something or someone else comes then I either have to fight or run. If he never shows up, I'll have to wait until the sun comes up to traverse the city..'

I started to release my mana as far as I could, it was being repelled by the mist but any good or bad sensor could tell where I was.

It made me be one big target for anyone close by, this was the only option that made sense to me.

'Come on sir find me...'

Hope, something that crushed my heart many of times. Yet there were a few times where it was fulfilled with my wishes being answered.

Each minute felt like a whole hour, my anxiety was through the roof causing me to be hyper aware of every single sound. My hope was starting to die, minutes had passed without anything happening.

'DAMN IT, COME ON YOU NEED TO FIND ME SIR!'

I was reaching a mental limit, I couldn't tell how much longer I could wait.

As I was about to release my mana, I heard a man's voice enter my ears.

"Yeah it was diffidently him captain, his mana signatures are the exact same."

My instincts were screaming at me, these people were deadly. As I enhanced my body with electricity a man suddenly appeared in front of my eyes. He had the same features as anyone from the Fallen Empire with the difference being his pure white skin.

I felt the man's fist slam into my stomach, it felt like a train was hitting me dead on which almost me gag.

I felt my knees start to buckle while I lost all control over my mana.

The man grabbed my head and lifted me up to his eye level. His black eyes were looking straight through me, I was this man's prey.

"So Gillie you mean to tell me this human killed our comrades?" The man asked while never taking his eyes off me.

"Well he wasn't the only one. There is another who killed a majority of them, but he managed to escape. I believe the human in front of you took at least two lives."

'That fucking bastard....'
