My boss took off his backpack then took out two black containers. He handed one over to me, the container was a small square and looked to have a lid on it.
"It's a water container, drink up. Since we are in this building, we can take some time for you to recover more. Good news is we are almost to the wall, while the bad news is the sun will come up soon. We need to get over that wall before the sun comes up or else we will easily be spotted while climbing."
I nodded my head while drinking the water out of the small container. The water was ice cold and didn't seem to end. I took a few big gulps and closed the container then handed it back to my boss.
While handing back the container I noticed my coat had gotten even more tattered. I knew I had a lot of wounds as well, luckily they all felt to be closed for now.
This city has really taken its toll on me, I've almost lost my life twice now in the same day.
'I'm too damn weak, I will die if I don't improve quickly. My sensing ability needs to be the first to improve. I have to learn how to control natural mana here.'
I felt like death was close to me, ready to get me at any time. When that artillery round hit the ground without me even noticing, I knew change had to happen immediately.
My natural senses weren't good enough, even when they were enhanced.
I needed to control mana like a proper senser, to always know what's around you especially in this place.
I looked over to my boss to see he was still gulping down water, I've never seen anyone drink so much in one sitting. He finally stopped and started putting the containers away while I myself started to stand.
I felt a lot of aching muscles and pain all over my body, but I had to keep going.
I fully enhanced my body once again and was ready for the final push to the wall. Adrenaline was pumping making the pain start to go away, I looked over to my boss to see he was ready to go.
He looked over at me and smiled, then started running.
We ran and ran through the dark alleys of the city, the noises of battle had not calmed down and only became more rampant.
The prior lonely and dead city seemed to be coming to life, when there is life there is also death.
We made it out of the city and started running through the trees, our pace had never slowed down once.
As we were running through the trees, I started to see the wall come into view. We made it out and finally reached the giant wall with the sun still down.
My boss wasted no time and started to climb, I followed suit and began following his exact route.
We were climbing at fast pace, way faster than our first climb. We able to reach the top in less than 20 minutes. My boss immediately started descending the wall, this was the part I dreaded the most and what made me give up early.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
I began to start climbing down and the pain in my body started to resurface.
Adrenaline wasn't enough to numb it, a burning sensation started to spread and took control. I wanted to stop climbing, I wanted to just stop but I never did.
I kept climbing.
'Fingers jammed repeat, fingers jammed repeat, foot in place repeat, fingers jammed repeat, foot in place repeat.' I said it in my head over and over again to remember the process.
While I was looking down I saw blood start to drip, it was my own.
One of my wounds reopened, a worst case scenario was starting to unfold. If all my wounds started to open, I would lose strength and fall. Not only that but I could lose enough to die or pass out.
I started to increase my speed by taking risker holds which led further down the wall.
The pain increased further which drove me insane, but it had to be done.
'FINGERS JAMMED REPEAT! FOOT PLACED REPEAT! FINGERS JAMMED REPEAT!' I screamed in my mind.
I started to see the ground, I climbed even faster and when the ground was 50 feet away I decided to let go of the wall and free fall.
I slammed into the ground which hurt my legs, but that didn't matter because I finally reached the ground.
I slowly stood up and my boss reached the ground shortly after, he once again took off his backpack and pulled out another black container. He put two of his fingers inside of the container then pulled them out which had some type of blue material on them.
He walked over to me and put the material on my opened wound which stopped the bleeding.
I looked over to my right arm to see the material sinking inside my skin and actually start closing the wound. There wasn't any medicine I knew of that had this effect.
The hardest part was now over, the sun also was starting its rise which gave the woods in front of me horrifying sight.
The trees had no color, they were all torn apart and looked to be barely holding on. The grass was a dark murky black that looked like a horrible disease. The sun only amplified these horrible features, only chemical weapons could cause such things to happen.
I heard my boss start to run and I followed suit reluctantly.
We ran for over three hours to make it back to the teleportation array. Nothing had happened during the run, I did notice though the forest started to look better the further we had gotten from the city.
We had reached the weapons shop building and went inside. I looked around to see the shop owner still was not here.
"Change back into your normal clothing now and leave all your gear here as well. Also check your body to see if you have any more open wounds so that we can get them closed before you put on your clothes."
I started taking off my gear and noticed that there were more wounds than I had thought.
Most were burns from the two explosions, luckily no wounds were opened making me sigh in relief. I decided I would have to visit the infirmary when I reached the campus grounds.
I looked at my backpack and saw it was still in perfect condition which was quite a shock.
I had taken out my clothing and started putting them on, after that I put all of my gear on an empty table. My boss had finished changing as well and walked over to me and turned my bag white again.
"Oh by the way did the academy give you students any money?"
"No, when I checked the card there was nothing inside of it."
"Are you kidding me? Huh what a bunch of idiots, okay when we get back follow me to the shop I'll pay you for today. Do you have to pay for medical fees or does the school take care of them?"
"I know that we don't have to pay when we use the schools infirmary, however they never said anything about the hospitals located inside of the capital."
"They really are morons, the reason why the terms are so vague is because the number of disputes happening over the entire program. The head dean of the program is brand new, that's why they were so many changes to the entire thing."
"Was that why they made us came a week early?"
"I would assume so, all business owners were given a paper that went over the program since our taxes are funding it. A majority of us supported it, but there was a minority that went against it. The new head dean changed the program to meet in the middle of both sides. One of the major changes was having all of you work and pay for most things. The minority of the owners didn't like that all of you would be learning and enjoying privileges for free when our people work hard to earn them."
"I see, well which side did you end up taking?"
"I supported the program from the beginning, this empire needs change before it's too late..."
