Chapter 57: Danger Close (2)

Chapter 57: Danger Close (2)

I looked slightly to my right to see the other man was not facing me at all. He was launching spears in the direction of where I assumed my boss was.

I knew I needed to take our skirmish somewhere else as I preferred not to fight 2 on 1. However, moving this guy might be a huge problem.

He swung his axe directly downwards towards my skull, I jumped backwards which avoided the axe and opened our distance.

'I need to start coming at him at weird angles to make sure he can't get a proper swing with that axe of his. I still don't know the proper way to use my longsword though, the length of the blade is throwing me off more than I expected...'

I opened up my stance and held my blade forward as to see the actual distance. By doing this I was able to get a better read on what the perfect distance would be to strike.

The man noticed this and charged forward, for such a big guy his speed was not to be underestimated.

I moved to my left and used my momentum to perform a horizontal slash. The man easily blocked it, but now his comrade wouldn't be able to help him since he was in the line of fire.

Positioning was extremely important in battles which involve multiple people. At first they had an advantage, but now that advantage was gone.

I continued to swing faster and faster at the man, some swings would be high and others would be low to keep the man guessing where the next would be. My style revolved around pure aggression, I could keep this onslaught on for hours.

*CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG*

The sounds of metal clashing were ringing out in the silent city, the man had no opportunity to swing back at me.

I was still holding back, I decided to assume he was as well since being overconfident was deadly.

"What's wrong pussy, having trouble over there?" I said while still swinging my sword in every direction possible.

I decided to use trash talk to see if he would start revealing his true strength.

Even though I was staring at him I couldn't tell what his emotions were because a mask had blocked his entire face. I could only go off of his energy levels, but I couldn't get a read on them.

While I was in the middle of another swing the man had taken a large step back which caused me to completely miss.

I wasted no time and dropped the sword then charged at the man while pulling out both of the knifes on my sides. During my charge the man suddenly ducked and I saw a spear come flying at my face at high speeds.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

My reaction time was faster though as I was able to slightly crouch down making the spear graze my hair.

This didn't cause my charge to stop, I kept moving forward and swung both knifes down which entered my opponent's skull. This caused his body to slam down on the ground in a crouched position, I made sure to dig the knifes deeper to ensure the kill.

After that I quickly removed the knifes and started enhancing my body with electricity.

I looked over to the other man and saw that he was trying to run away.

However, I would never allow such a thing. With my body now fully enhanced I blitzed right behind him. I swung both knifes into the man's back which also caused him to fall.

"PLEASE DON'T KILL ME! PLEASE STOP!" The man begged while having two knifes lodged into his back. I was on top of him ready to kill him any second.

"Diggory stop, don't kill him." I looked over to see my boss standing over me.

"You, why should I listen to you when you didn't help at all. I never once heard an attack come from you sir." I said to him while staring dead into his eyes.

"LISTEN TO HIM, YOU NE." The man's words had started echoing throughout the city, so I decided to grab his head and slam it down.

"Zip it."

I looked over to my boss again and waited for his answer.

.....

POV: Yuki Burope

I had really mixed feelings about my employee. The business side of me liked the kid and his capability, I knew he was a great fit for the job. Yet the fatherly side of me didn't like it all.

After having my beautiful daughter, I started to look at life and this Empire in a different way.

I didn't like that someone this young could be so ruthless and efficient in killing. No kid should be able to do such a thing, it wasn't right. How could we adults allow such a thing to happen.

Looking at his scars made me angry, I couldn't believe his race could let such a thing happen. If my daughter had even one of those scars, I would flip this entire world on its head.

Now this kid was looking at me like I was his enemy, those cold grey eyes of his were locked onto mine.

I truly didn't know what to say, you could never show mercy in this work but for some reason I felt like he needed to show it. My fatherly instincts told me that he was going down a wrong path and I wanted to correct it.

"The man is begging for his life Diggory, these are mere relic hunters not soldiers." I said to the boy, it was true that these two weren't soldiers instead they were pure relic hunters, so combat wasn't their strong suit.

A relic hunter simply loves finding relics and exploration, it was one of the reasons I was so shocked when they started attacking.

"I don't care what he is, the moment he attacked us he forfeited his life. You're the one who said no mercy, why are you suddenly changing your mind sir.."

The kid was absolutely right, however hearing it out of his mouth made me quite sad. This was why I preferred to work alone, I get attached to things far too easily.

I raised my hand and started forming a needle out of ice. Once the needle was made, I fired it towards the relic hunters head which killed him immediately.

Diggory never once took his eyes off of me, he was still staring at me. Expect now we were face to face as he had gotten off the dead body. He was much shorter than me, so I had to look down on him which didn't feel right.

"Diggory tell me something, just how many lives have you taken?" I asked in a serious tone, this was something on my mind that I had to know.

".....A lot."

His answer pained me, for the first time in a while I had felt pity.

"What age was your first?"

"Nine."

I had looked up and started to stare into the darkness.

When my daughter was nine, she was crying to me how all the kids in school were bullying her. Yet when Diggory was nine he had taken his first life, I couldn't imagine the gap being so big for a nine year old.

'All are humans like him? Just what sort of race are they.... No there's no way, I had seen other's that looked similar to him just minus the scars. Maybe he's a special case, then who's at fault for letting this happen to him?'
