Chapter 5: Taboo

The result of their bet was decided 15 minutes later. Jason walked through the doors of the cafeteria wearing his uniform. The moment he entered, only a few people noticed him but word quickly spread. Soon, almost everyone was watching Jason circling the room. There was a silent agreement that no one would approach him before he sat down but that didn't stop plenty of people from pulling out a seat and giving Jason bright smiles.

Jason ignored everyone until he reached the table with Cassiel and Adam.

"Fuck! You just made me lose the bet!" Cassiel cursed at Jason as soon as he arrived, passing over a small sack of coins to his other friend.

Adam laughed while pouring a glass of wine and passing over a fruit plate. Jason ignored him and sat between the two, picking up the cup of wine that had just been poured for him and drinking it in one gulp.

"You made a bet about me?" Jason asked with the same monotone voice

"Hmm. Your behavior is pretty predictable so we regularly make small bets like this," Adam said honestly, taking out half of the coins in the pouch before passing the rest to Jason.

Jason looked at the bag before silently taking it and putting it in his blazer. Adam nodded, knowing that Jason had forgiven them since he got a cut of the action.

"Don't you usually hate parties?" Cassiel asked, downing his glass of wine. The school didn't serve these but the professors turned a blind eye when senior students brought some. It was only forbidden for students under Year 3 to do so.

"Mother and Grandmother," was all that Jason said but the pair knew that those two must have forced him to. One of the perks about Jason was that he could be counted on to fulfill his promises.

"I see. Well, at least school will be more interesting with you around," Adam said with a smile, pouring another glass of wine for his two friends.

"I hear you were about to get into a fight earlier but the other guy backed out. Must have really bothered you," Cassiel laughed at Jason. He knew that the boy was a fighter and preferred to solve things with his fists rather than words.

"Don't bring it up," Jason warned him

"Or what? Gonna hit me?" Cassiel teased, sticking his chin up to taunt Jason

Jason was tempted to do just that but held himself back. He knew that Cassiel was just as much of a fighter as him so they would end up tearing up the party if they came to blows.

'Then again, I could get out of this stupid party earlier if we do that,' Jason thought before shaking his head. He promised that he wouldn't try to escape so he had no choice but to hold his hand.

Cassiel laughed when he saw that Jason didn't hit him, already guessing what promise he made to his mother and grandmother. What he forgot was that Jason was vengeful and would mark down every grievance in his heart so he would pay for his words later.

'How have you already forgotten that this guy will attack you at a moment's notice?' Adam looked at Cassiel in pity. He could already predict that Jason would strike Cassiel as soon as the party was over or, at the latest, outside of the Dragon Tower. 'And you still have to give him the bad news too.'

Figuring that he'd save his friend from getting himself into any more trouble, Adam decided to divert Jason's attention.

"Ignore him, Jason. I want to introduce you to our little friend group," Adam turned Jason's attention away from the suicidal fool and toward the other 4 members at the table.

"Little one is Rachel. Same Year and Class as you. Cassiel's sister. You remember her, right?" Adam asked while pointing to the pretty girl with pale skin and black hair

"She threw piss-stained sheets at me when we were 6," Jason remarked, causing Rachel's cheeks to flush pink while the others tried to hold in their laughs.

"Right," Adam tried to smooth it over, not wanting to embarrass the girl further. "The two elves over there are twins. Both are 4th Years but Lyra is in the Sphinx Class and Ena is in the Unicorn Class with me."

Jason nodded at the duo but didn't show much reaction to them. He had met with elven royalty before and they were the most beautiful of elves. He also had nothing but beautiful women in his family that surpassed even the elves. Even though the two were very pretty, it was not at a level to make him flustered.

The two teens nodded at Jason politely, already getting a picture of how the trio usually interacted in their heads.

"A pleasure to meet you, Lord Draco," Lyra said politely

"Welcome to the roundtable," Ena laughed at the nickname that their group had been given by others

'Adam must have his hands full dealing with these two. Almost makes me feel sorry for him,' Lyra thought as she sipped her wine

"The person over there is Roberto Castro. He's from the islands to the east and is a 5th Year Dragon," the last person Adam introduced was a young man with tanned skin and curly brown hair. He looked like the playboy type and Jason marked him down as such in his mind.

"Nice to meet you, Prince Draco," Roberto said politely, earning him negative points in Jason's mind. He hated being called 'prince' most of all.

"And to introduce you all, this is Jason Draco. The heir to the Draco Clan and the one set to be the 19th Dragoon," Adam introduced Jason last, giving him a formal introduction to the others.

Jason nodded to all of them before turning to Adam and staring at him. But after he held strong for 10 seconds, Jason finally spoke to break the silence.

"What are you keeping from me?" Jason asked. He could always tell when his friends hoard were going to surprise him with something and he didn't like to be kept in the dark.

Adam looked at Jason and sighed. He hated that his younger friend was so sharp when it came to matters such as this.

"Cessiel will tell you. Part of the bet," Adam passed the buck, not feeling guilty about throwing his friend under the bus

Cessiel glared at Adam but when he felt Jason's heavy gaze land on him, he wanted to try and stall.

"Let's wait till after the welcoming party," Cessiel pleaded with Jason. But when he noticed that the other person did not give in, he gave up and downed his wine.

"Fine. There's a Dragon Slayer among the 6th Years," Cessiel said as lowly as he could, not daring to look Jason in the eyes when he said it. After the words came out, he looked up to see Jason's amethyst eyes where the pupils had become slits.

"Who?" Jason asked, barely able to keep his voice steady. But those who knew of the Draco Clan knew that Jason was truly pissed.
