Chapter 2: Orientation

The boat arrived at the shore of the island where the 300 students were led toward the building at the center by the professors. Jason stood out in the group of kids thanks to his dragon blood. While most other kids looked around 12, he looked at least 15 or 16 years old.

The group made their way through the path in the forest under the careful guidance of the professors. During the journey, they saw many of the species that lived on the island ranging from goblins to drakes. It was only because of the aura the professors were giving off that the creatures did not dare to attack the group.

When they reached the end of their journey, the kids looked at the walls of the school in amazement. The wall and gate at the front were at least 200 feet tall and nearly several thousand feet wide. The group walked by the gates, feeling magical energy wash over them.

"What you guys just felt is the barrier around the school. It keeps random beasts and people who do not belong outside so you can be here without worry. Just remember that outside of the school gates, any of the creatures that we passed could kill you if you are not careful," Prof. Black warned the students of the dangers that lay outside as well as reassuring them of their safety behind the walls of the school.

One of the students raised their hand to which Prof. Black nodded at them to answer their question.

"Prof. Black. How do we send letters back to our families?" the girl asked. From her clothes that seemed to be hand-me-downs, it was obvious that she was from a commoner family.

"All letters will be delivered by magic once a week. They will be sent and picked up from the recruiting locations where you were tested at. Your parents have all been informed of this so there is no need to worry about not being able to send or get mail," Prof. Black patiently explained to the girl. Many of the students not from big families wouldn't know these things since they were either only children or their siblings hadn't come to the school.

As they walked into the massive castle that was also the academy, the students were brought to orientation. When they arrived, a man with greying hair and a long, messy beard appeared at the front of the room and stood on a platform.

"Hello, to our newest students. My name is Professor Pennyworth and I shall be your headmaster for the coming school year and hopefully for the rest of your time here as well.

I am here to go over a few basic things with you all.

Each of you has already been assigned to one of the three classes where you will study in your respective fields. Most of the classes you take will be with those in the same class but you will have chances to mingle with students from other classes.

Everyone is to be treated equally, regardless of their family's status. In this school, we promote talent over lineage. Do well in your classes, and you will unlock special privileges such as visits to the mainland and better dormitories.

Lastly, please be sure to not roam outside of the academy walls unless you feel confident in protecting your own life. We allow our students a great deal of independence but that comes at the cost of facing the consequences of one's actions."

With his short speech over, the students were then escorted to their dorms under the leadership of their class teachers. Jason followed the group until they reached one of the 4 towers in the school.

This tower had the symbol of a dragon spewing flames as the crest but to Jason, it was very lacking.

'They think themselves dragons? How arrogant,' he thought as he walked into the first floor of the tower.

Prof. Black turned around once all the students were in the tower and began to explain to them how dorms would work.

"Hello, everyone. You have each been assigned a dorm where you will have 2-3 roommates. First years are on the second floor while the senior students are higher and higher. Please be sure to change into your uniforms and meet back here for the welcoming party that will start in 2 hours. Until then, you are free to move about as you please," she informed them before turning into mist and vanishing.

'A water mage. So she's my counter,' Jason thought to himself. 'Guess I won't be able to beat her in a direct clash anytime soon.'

While the other students looked around and were nervous, Jason was the first to move past them and up the stairs to the 2nd floor. Under his lead, the other students followed after him, eager to see their dorms with many hoping that they had become roommates with the Draco Clan heir.

When everyone got to the 2nd floor, they realized that the school must have used some type of expansion magic on the dorms since the floor was much larger than the floor beneath them.

Everyone walked around the floor, finding their names written on the plaques that hung in front of the rooms. When Jason found his room, he wasn't surprised to see that he had a dorm all to himself.

The boy walked into his room and nodded when he saw the layout. He had seen other rooms that had 2 bunkbeds in them and 4 small desks stuffed into small rooms. His was different though. There was a single queen-sized bed on one side of the room, a large desk, and a private bathroom.

The people who were secretly following Jason looked at the room in shock and then shook their heads in disappointment or amazement.

Those that knew of the Draco Clan's power knew that it was only right for Jason to have a room like that of his own while those that were ignorant felt that the school was going back on their word about treating all students equally.

Jason didn't pay any attention to them and was about to enter his room when he heard the sound of fighting behind him.

'Looks like this day won't go as peacefully as I thought,' he thought while mentally smiling at the chance to get into a fight
