Chapter 10: Heathen God Oasis

Chapter 10: Heathen God Oasis

Torrential rain pelted the priests as they exited the vortex. The high winds rendered their hoods useless. To their surprise the vortex spit Sahn out before closing. "What are you doing here?" Pandora asked, yelling over the wind. "I wanted to see this thing." Sahn replied. "This isn't a game Sahn." She explained. "Fine I'll stay out the way and just watch." And with that Sahn vanished. "Your orders?" Babasha asked. Pandora took a second to compose herself. "Okay, Babasha I want you and Cortnae to draw Oasis out and keep it distracted while I prepare the sealing. Remember don't get too close to it." Babasha and Cortnae nodded and rushed off together. Pandora searched for a good vantage point where she could prepare her ritual when suddenly the rain and wind stopped. The wind started up again and rushed past her until it began to howl and form a funnel shape. "Shit." She said under her breath. She jumped back and simultaneously weaved a series of hand signs then placed both her palms on the ground. A green glowing cage like the one she had trapped Sahn in emerged from the ground under the swirling funnel of wind. This cage however was much larger and encapsulated the forming tornado. Once it was inside she lifted her hand off the ground and the cage began to sink back into the ground taking the tornado with it. Pandora let out a sigh of relief, the next thing she knew she was hurtling through the air. The pain of the hit caught up to her right before she crashed through the glass of a local store. The broken glass crunched under her as she pushed a store shelf off of her. Slowly she stood up and peered through the hole she just made. Her blurred vision came into focus to reveal a giant ape-like creature standing where she had been standing. Its white fur stood on end due to a constant electric current flowing through it. It roared and the sound of thunder shook the air as it beat its chest. Pandora put her hand to her ear piece, "Babasha, Cortnae I found it." But there was no reply, only static. She took it out of her ear and threw it on the ground then climbed through the shattered store window and glared at the beast while wiping blood from her brow. Sahn sat atop a nearby building and watched Pandora close the distance between her and Oasis while dodging balls of ice it created by blowing frigid air into its palm. Once close enough Pandora let out a battle cry and leapt into the air readying to strike with a pipe she had picked up off the ground. Oasis began to swing its massive arm but a green chain shot from the ground behind it and wrapped around its bicep halting its attack. Pandora stabbed the pipe into its chest and jumped away. Green chains emerged from the pipe and ensnared Oasis wrapping around it tightly until it could no longer stand. The beast fell on its back struggling in vain to break free. Pandora jumped up on the beast's chest, sat down and looked it in its eyes. Her stare turned into a glare until Oasis stopped struggling and stared back. Babasha and Cortnae appeared from the other end of the street and approached Pandora and her quarry. "Well done captain." Babasha praised. Cortnae without a word began to draw a circle around Oasis. None of them could feel the minute atmospheric change but Sahn alone recognized the feral survival instinct that radiated from Oasis and that was enough for a wide grin to spread across his face. The three priest were unaware of the storm cloud forming over their heads as they prepared the sealing ritual. Sahn stood from his perch and prepared himself for the battle that was about to take place. "What's he doing?" Cortnae asked looking up at Sahn. Pandora looked up and Sahn gestured to the beast on the ground behind her. Confused, she looked at Oasis whose eyes were wide and staring straight up. The beast then let out a thunderous roar. Pandora tried to signal to her companions to take cover but before she could a giant pillar of lightning crashed down from the cloud and struck the pipe protruding from Oasis's chest. The explosion sent the priests flying while also destroying the adjacent buildings. Pandora once again pushed debris off of her and sat up. Her arm was broken and her vision was obscured by dust cloud covering the area. She heard a pained moan coming from nearby. "Cortnae is that you? You okay?" She asked. "Y-yes." Cortnae replied. The wind picked up again and blew the cloud of dust away. Oasis now stood where it once laid, streams of electricity arced of its fur and it gripped Babasha in its giant fist. But standing between herself and the Heathen God was Sahn facing it down with a wide grin.
