Part 3: Smell

Part 3: Smell

“You have to rely of you sense of smell. You won’t be able to hear me, think, I have mud on me, what should I smell like?” Sir Rimuru said in a sharp tone.

Jin stood still, if anything he of all people should know the smell of mud.. right?

He lived just outside the village and wore muddy clothes all the time, how was he struggling with this?

Jin had known the smell all too well, that wasn’t the problem, the old man was simply too swift. Jin couldn’t keep up. Every time the smell got close to him, Jin would strike, but by the time his fist hit the area all he punched was the air, Sir rimuru had already moved. This was the wall Jin was faced with, how does he become faster? It's not like his body would just become faster with only his thought. However It was more simple than he thought. He had to predict Sir Rimuru’s next move.

Jin focused, he controlled his breathing and was just observing by using his nose.

He sniffed out a pattern, and was ready for his next move. This time he struck before the old man had arrived at the area but it was to no avail. It was dodged. Sir rimuru took a quick step back.

Jin remembered that the old man had a hunchback and therefore tried to strike behind Sir rimuru where his curved spine stuck out. However, this also failed. It was astounding, Jin couldn’t have known but sir rimuru was in top quality. His back was straight and he stood tall. That wasn’t all he had six packs and strong muscular arms. His legs each as thick as a log. This was unbelievable, the old and gentle man, like this? Jin didn’t know, but he was fighting a beast.

“Hmm.. smart of you to find out the pattern however you didn’t think of the possibility of me dodging…!” Sir Rimuru remarked.

“It’s not my fault your too fast, I can’t keep up.” Jin replied in a snotty way.

“I’m not too fast, your too slow. In case you haven’t realised your not using your body to it optimal potential.” The old man said.

Jin came to realise the truth behind those words, he indeed was not using all his strength.

“Okay then, how do I use by body to its upmost potential?” Jin agreed. However for a few moments there was no response. Both of them stood their. Sir Rimuru close to the cliff and Jin more nearer to the cottage.

“Your mindset is what’s holding you back.” Sir Rimuru admitted.

“So, what can I do about it..?” Jin sighed.

“Okay.. let’s work on your mindset. Let’s do some meditating.”

The next morning they both sad down near the cliff and crossed their legs.

“First close your eyes and control your breathing.” Sir rimuru advised.

Jin did as instructed and closed his eyes, the first step was fairly easy, because of the situations Jin had been in controlling his breathing was light work.

As usual it became harder with the second step.

“Now imagine your self in a fight where you can see”

This was happening in his head, even though Jin hadn’t seen the world for years it was easy to imagine it.

“Fight your opponent.”

It was a simple task.. it should have been. So why did Jin struggle with this?

All he had to do was fight his opponent using all his power. It was a relatively odd situation, Jin didn’t know the limits to his strength and so was unable to imagine going all out.

“If you can’t do this then let’s take a different approach.” Declared the old man.

“Think of all the people who have wronged you.”

This was also something simple for Jin. Everyone except the old man had wronged Jin after all. Weather it was just calling him names, giving him dirty looks or actually taking part in bullying, they were all involved in it.

“Now release your anger on them.”

Jin was able to do this. It took a while, around 10 minutes to get it all done, but he did one by one get back at everyone who wronged him. Although this was in his head it did give him a sense of superiority. This made Jin somewhat conclude his abilities and made him more confident, it also gave him the feeling of hope, in that he will one day be able to roam this world freely.

“You feel better know?” Sir Rimuru exalted.

“Much better!” Jin blurted out.

“Okay lets get training again” the old man exclaimed.

“Sure!” Said Jin in a lot better mood.

Both of them had realised that Jin’s overall speed and strength had improved a lot. Sir rimuru attacked in the same pattern as before, the difference being this time he had to dodge a lot more and avoid being hit as Jin’s punches which had become much more deadly. ‘From the front. Now the left, behind and now!’ Jin charged his fist to his right where Sir Rimuru was coming from. With a smile forming on his face, Jin successfully landed a hit. Even if it was by a thirteen year old boy, it sent the old man flying. The destructive force behind each of his attacks was jarring. After 5minutes Sir Rimuru had returned, the was a hole in his clothes and his bare skin was bruised. Jin didn’t know how much he hurt the old man and simply did a cocky dance.

“Your strong alright.. boy.. hold back on how much power you use..” asserted Sir Rimuru.

The next day the two continued do develop Jin's sense of smell and how to use it In a fight. The old man knew how strong Jin was and was indeed a little hesitant in fighting him.

"Okay... remember to hold back..." Sir Rimuru reminded Jin. Even with this warning.. and he did abide by it, Jin's attack were still ferocious. Not hurting Rimuru as much.. but still reminding him of his old body, even when Jin held back he suffered greatly.

"Well at this point you've gotten really good at training with smell.." The old man began

"Let's use different aromas" Rimuru continued.

Now using the scent of strawberries to give Jin a harder time, they carried on training.

Hours went by. After using all sorts of fruits and materials.. Jin was finally able get a solid grasp on how to use his nose to his advantage in a fight.
