Chapter 1.2
“Pst, hey Adrian I heard you got done in by Nate again.” A voice whispered from behind Adrian.
Adrian turned his head around looking at the person behind him. Spiky black hair with a dark green highlight in the middle. Pale white face, with brown eyes and a nose ring in his nose. Yup, just another male going along with a new trend, nothing new here.
The style changed every season, and this guy also changed his looks to go along with it. Whether it was bleaching his hair, or getting piercing he did it all. It made Adrian wonder why he would do such a thing, but it also made him question how he got a friend like this. That’s right, this young boy sitting behind Adrian’s desk is also his closest friend. They’ve known each other since junior high, and stuck to each other like glue ever since.
‘Fuck me, does the whole school know about it already?’ Adrian said to himself.
“Don’t be upset about it man, it happens ya know? Nate can be a total douche at times, but he can be kind as well.” The young boy told Adrian.
“Ed, since when have you known Nate to be nice to anyone? I doubt that guy even knows the definition of the word nice.” Adrian replied back to him in a soft whisper.
Edward Cole, or Ed for short was one of the only people in this world that understood him. Well, Adrian had his online friends, but those couldn’t really be called friends since he hardly knew them. However, what he shared with them was more than what he told his own parents.
Thinking about it, if Nate was actually nice to someone, it would only be his friends. Which may seem large on the outside considering he was popular and everyone hung out with him. But could the term friend be used so easily like that? Nah, Adrian knew better than anyone that the term friend couldn’t just casually be tossed around. If Adrian had to guess the amount of friends Nate had, he didn’t doubt it would be more than his own. Which could be counted on one hand!
“I know you don’t like that guy, but at least give him credit. He’s helped you out once in the past too. Besides… he lent me five dollars today.” Ed said while slowly turning his head away and scratching his cheek.
‘No wonder you are standing up for that bastard!’ “Whatever, besides it’s not like he had a choice but to help me. If he didn’t we both would have went down. If I went down, oh boy don’t even get me started on that.” Adrian told Ed before turning his head around and readjusting himself in his seat while listening to the teacher talk.
‘Man, today is just not my day is it. I finally got an A on my math exam, got praised by my art teacher, and helped win us the game in dodgeball today. However just when you think everything is going good, it all goes downhill from there.’ He told himself.
Thinking about today, it really did start out amazingly, but after what happened twenty minutes ago he could tell that everything was going down hill. He was literally two minutes late for class and Mr. Cole chewed his ass out about it, now he has detention and a two thousand word essay on the importance of being on time. Adrian didn’t want to do that crap, he had better things to do. Like going home and playing a game or reading a book. Hell, he would even go with him mother to the salon if it got him out of staying after for another hour.
Don’t get him wrong, he likes school just as much as the other guy. However what he disliked was the principle. That guy is corrupted, as long as you play a sport he will basically overlook anything bad you do. However if you are average with no athletic talent then you could basically be dead to the guy. When Nate shoved Adrian in the locker, and the principle found out, Nate just got a slap on the wrist saying not to do it again. Is basketball, or any school sport more important the the welfare of his own students? Obviously it is, but what can you do about it, it’s high school.

“Mr. Miller, since you look so deep in thought how about you answer the question on the monitor.” An angry voice called out from across the classroom.
Glancing up at the large monitor Adrian read the question to himself. ‘What day was it that Congress declared America as independent?’
“Pft, Mr. Cole you must be joking, this question is elementary stuff. July fourth is the answer.” Adrian spoke proudly while tossing out his answer.
Mr. Cole shook his head slightly while his blond hair swung side to side.
“Hey idiot, it’s July second, not the fourth. Next time you should read carefully before answering, or did you really think that was the answer.” A voice called out from the other side of the room.
The class burst out laughing, causing Adrians face to turn red as he lowered his head.
“That’s right Mr. Harris, nothing I wouldn’t expect from such a wonderful student.” Mr. Cole praised the boy that answered his question correctly.
‘Fucking Nate again!’ Is all Adrian could think about at the moment. How dare he embarrass him in the classroom. However Adrian couldn’t get that upset about it, his answer was wrong, but he thought it was right. That’s all he was ever taught, everyone always said July fourth this and that, but now it was July second what type of shit was that. Adrian hurriedly opened his history book and flipped a few pages until he noticed something about the thirteen colonies. Skimming a few pages back and forth, he finally noticed that Congress declared America as independent on July second, but everyone celebrated it on the fourth.
Adrian didn’t know how Nate knew the answer, when Nates grades are just as good as his own. Each one passing all their classes with B’s or C’s, barely even getting one A on their report card.
“Mr. Miller, since you don’t think that knowing the importance of America’s history is important, why don’t we add another essay on top of the one you already have.” Mr. Cole said.
“But I neve-”
Mr. Cole cut Adrian off before he could finish speaking. “Mr. Cole you must be joking, this question is elementary. Did you or did you not say that? On top of saying it was easy, you still got it wrong. I’ve been teaching you guys about the thirteen colonies for two weeks now, and what have you learned. What do you have to show for it, nothing.” His voice got colder with every word he spoke.
Adrian tried to justify himself once more but instead of getting cut off by his teacher, he got cut off by the bell instead.
He felt a hand pat his back a few times before he turned his head, only to notice Ed there. “Don’t worry man, I swear things just have to get better. And hey, if worst comes to worst, i’ll help you write your essay.” Ed told Adrian as he waited for him to get up from his seat.
Adrian grabbed his text books, and nodded his head towards Ed. “Thanks man, you don’t know how much that means.”
Ed and Adrian chatted for a few minutes before both of them had to split to their next class. Just as he was headed to drop off his books he noticed Emilia, Nate and Emilia’s boyfriend all together talking. They just so happened to be hanging around in this hallway, his hallway. Out of all the other several hallways in the school, they just had to hang around the one where his locker was located. Adrian wasn’t in the mood for anymore bullshit today, he sighed to himself as he walked over. ‘Well, things can’t get any better this can they.’
