Chapter 9 - Leaving Rotting Land

Chapter 9 - Leaving Rotting Land

It was Victor's official second day in the Rotting Land, and what came first to his mind was to hunt for experience points and use his current stats to kill monsters and level up. At least he should experiment to know if his intuition about the conditions of gaining experience points was right.

'First, I need to find food... But I need to hunt too..'

Victor was confused about what to do subsequent, but he realized a second later that he needed to leave Rotting Land. Since he left traces, they could find him here, and it wouldn't be a good thing to happen.

Just a second after thinking about what he should do, he left the cave and traced the direction he went through before reaching here. He should take a detour, going slightly diagonal, and reach the outskirts of the Rotting Land. It would be better if he focused on leveling up first then look for food after.

Taking the safety measures of going through the diagonal path was just a wild guess, but it was better than nothing.

With an idea in mind of training his foundation too, Victor started running without relying on his previous life's stats, but just a second after, he gasped for air.

"Fuck with this weak body." He hissed between his breath then slowly took his pace, "I'll just walk slowly and be careful until I reach the outskirts."

With a sigh of frustration, Victor started walking with vigilance. He looked at everything around him, enhanced his senses, and imitated what he would do as a master in the forest. But it was useless. He couldn't even imitate it on a smaller scale.

Victor kept being sharp and thoroughly followed the path he had created in mind: the diagonal path. And after a few hours, with Lady Luck on his side, he arrived at a less corrupted trees without any problem. The density of corrupted trees was his sign that he was in the deeper part of Rotting Land, but as the trees started to be less corrupted, he breath easier.

'I reached a safer place. Now I can hunt goblins...' Victor thought and waited a few minutes under a bush.

Wandering around the outskirts wasn't necessary. Goblins are naturally scavengers, so they will go to different places to find food. And as Victor expected, this world's monsters were familiar to him since he had become familiar with them in his childhood days as far as he could remember.

Victor saw one naive goblin. He took safety measures and then jumped out of the bush where he was hiding earlier. With no other goblins to help this goblin in front of him, a confident expression was painted on his face as he attacked the goblin.

The goblin, on the other hand, pounced at him with a rusty dagger in its hands. Victor could see the direction of the attack, but his body was still slow. Even though Victor knew where the goblin's attack would hit him, he couldn't instantly evade it.

'My agility stat is still little after all.' He thought as he caught the goblin's hand which was holding the dagger that was about to reach his neck. 'But, thank goodness goblins are stupid.'

As Victor caught the goblin's hand, he pushed it away from him while still gripping tightly to it. The other hand of the goblin that was free tried to punch him, but it didn't get to land on his face.

Victor then used his other hand and tightly gripped its neck. He exerted force on it, determined to kill it immediately by making it suffocate. He was gripping tightly as he felt the resistance of the goblin, but all of it was in vain as a second later, it weakened and slowly closed its eyes after being choked by Victor's heavy hands.

"Finally... this was an easy thing to do. Killing is still my satisfaction." He muttered as a satisfied smile curled up on the corner of his lips.

[Level up!]

[Successfully killed a level 6 Goblin.]

Victor nodded, then leaned on a tree nearby and breathed fast.

'That was tiring, for fuck's sake. I exerted force on it, and I had a hard time with its resistance.' He gritted.

Victor rested for a few minutes, then stood up as he thought about continuing. He should go to a nearby pure forest to at least have a higher chance of searching for a safer place to stay for the coming night.

He still hadn't used his previous life's stats for the day, which would be helpful.

After some time, he started walking out of the Rotting Land, and as he was sure he was out of the Rotting Land, he looked back and clenched his fist.

'I will come back after reaching level 10. I will hunt goblins until they don't benefit me anymore, then hunt stronger monsters afterward and do the same. This will make me stronger and level up more.'

[Integration Percentage: 0.3%]

'Leveling up once won't be sufficient to add the percentage. I should hunt more and level up faster so that I'll reach one percent.'

Victor went back to his path and settled everything he should do. Since Rotting Land has more monsters, it would be better for him to hunt stronger monsters in pure forests or wildness since fewer monsters appear there. With that in mind, Victor realized that using his previous life's stats and his weaker condition after the duration wouldn't put him in a tight situation since pure forests have a lower population of monsters.

He smiled, then recalled everything that his parents had taught him.

They were all about monsters, but at least he knew fundamental things to survive in the wild.

After a few moments, Victor could see a green wide plain in front of him. He hadn't thought of taking this path, but the sight of it gave him refreshment.

'Life is still beautiful after all...' He closed his eyes and nodded, acting like a poetic old man. But then, a realization hit him as he recalled that the day was ending, and he still hadn't used his previous life's stats.

'But, I can't simply use it to add integration percentage.' And as Victor carefully thought about it, he hunted animals that were stronger than goblins in nature. Thinking about meat nutrition, he spent his previous life's stats on hunting meaty animals such as bears and cooked them immediately before the duration reached zero.
