Chapter 7 - Securing a Safe Place

Chapter 7 - Securing a Safe Place

The Rotting bear went its way to attack Victor as he provoked it while in sleep. It was angry at him, lifting its sharp paws in his direction, but, he had seen its movements, seemed slow to him.

He hopped back then gathered Qi to his hands, and as a familiarity with the technique reached his nervous system, he performed a technique that he was well-versed in when he was still starting as a Murim person.

[Swords Slash]

Victor covered his hands with Qi, conjuring a Qi sword, then sliced the Rotting Bear into two. He swayed his hands to splash out the thick volume on his hands. Without any disgust on his face, he went to the body of the Rotting Bear.

'This isn't edible, just as I expected. Monsters are still not good food.' Victor thought, seeing the blood spread to the ground.

He groaned, then moved and went behind it. He placed his body comfortably leaning on it, sighed, then closed his eyes forcing himself to sleep. There wasn't anything to spend the day on. And as he speculated, this place was the territorial place of this Rotting Bear. It would take time for other monsters to realize that the Rotting Bear was already dead.

[Level up!]

[Level up!]

[Level up!]

'Oh... I gained experience points...'

Victor instinctively swayed his hands and summoned the [System's] window board. He stared at it and observed the changes in his stats. And as he expected, the integration percentage is affected by leveling up.

'Since the description said so, it means that my progress will become a bit faster.' Then, a grin appeared on his face as he recalled the head scientist's face. He imagined attacking the experimental facility and easily killing every awaken that went his way.

The satisfaction of killing his enemies... as expected, that feeling didn't disappear despite having a weaker body. For him, and all the hardships he was willing to go through again would be just for that person and the people behind him that caused him to suffer.

'Having a new goal... it isn't that bad.'

[Successfully killed a level 41 Rotting Bear.]

"But why is it that I just gained small experience points? Is this the restrictions of the [System] so that I won't just take a shortcut and kill the strongest monster in the Rotting Land?"

Victor just guessed wildly, but it made sense to him. So he realized that everything he thought about was just the right thing. He had never thought of having easy ways in the past, but a side of his brain had been thinking about just going to the deepest part of Rotting Land. He had five minutes, so he could just kill every monster who came in his way and escape.

"I think the lower the level I have, and with the previous life's stats to kill a higher monster, the fewer experience points I would get. It has a standard and balanced basis. Leveling up in an easy way won't be a good thing. But, it could be just because I'm using my previous life's stats. If I use my current stats and killed high-leveled monsters with it, the total experience points that the monsters have would be calculated for my [System]."

"Small as expected. But, with these stats, it should be on par with a goblin on the outskirts of Rotting Land."

Victor then decided to use all of the time of his previous life's stats to create a dome to protect him in his sleep. Even though it was a waste, he didn't have the motivation at the moment to spend the remaining five minutes killing monsters here. He wanted to give his weak body a real rest.

And as he totally went to sleep, he dreamed of something.

***

It was just a normal day. Young Victor, the eight-year-old only child of the two best awakens of the Protish Kingdom, was waiting for his parents to go down from their room on the second floor of their house. He was enthusiastic about what his parents would do. He wanted to see them in their costumes.

They weren't superheroes, but the costumes Victor referred to seeing his parents in them were actually equipment.

"Mom, Dad, be sure to kick those monsters' asses! They don't deserve to live in this world!" Just like typical kids, Victor was once excited about seeing monsters getting beaten by powerful awakens. And apparently, he was born from the two of the best.

A lady wearing flashy equipment approached Victor and ruffled his hair. She had a blurry face and seemed to be everything around Victor was blurry, but he seemed to be okay with them.

"Don't worry, honey, Mom and Dad will kick their butts out of this kingdom." Victor's mother said.

"Yes! We will surely defeat them and bring peace once again to the beloved kingdom of Protish." His father said, with an optimistic tone.

Victor chuckled, then watched them leave their house. He immediately went in front of the television and waited for his parents' action to be telecast live. And after an hour of waiting, the update on the disastrous attack of giant monsters focused on the two awakens that arrived. They were his parents.

Victor cheered for them through the television, and the fight continued on the other side. They were doing well in the first half and were killing the giant monsters that had been causing havoc on their land. It was an apocalyptic threat as they had a huge number.

However, an hour later, the scenario just changed suddenly.

[T-The King of Mage's died! His half-upper body was halved, and he flew away from the monster. We could see it in the camera.]

[The Saintess! What is the Saintess doing?! What is she planning to do?]

Those words were the last words Victor heard before the screen flashed white, which his mother caused, and he found out the next day that his parents were already dead.

"The soldiers...? Are you co-workers of my parents...? Why are you here? Where are they? They promised that they would kill the monsters."

"I'm sorry, kid... Your parents were heroes. They died."

"NO! They are not dead!"
