CHAPTER 24 -PROPER LEGACY ACADEMY-

COLTER HART

I sighed as I stared out the window while I rubbed my hurting cheek. Looking at the beautiful scene of the blue sky along with gray clouds passing by. The loud noises coming from the students talking to each other at the same time began to muffle as I strayed away from the recent event that happened ten minutes ago…

Running up the stairs, I accidentally bumped into an odd person. The thing about me using half of my stamina is that once I run using only half, it becomes half as difficult to stop as it is when I use my full stamina.

However, still knowing that, I took the risk of it and before I knew it. A stray sunlight reflected through the window blinding me and being unaware of the path forward.

I thought nothing of it, but merely a challenge of god. But those thoughts watered away when a dark silhouette moved and covered the sunlight, giving me a clear view of the path.

Surprised by the sudden appearance, I stared with wide eyes at the dark shadow. Its features lightened and showed an unexpected thing.

Its black colored eyes facing forward then shifted to me. Even though my eyes were locked with hers, I still noticed her long black hair moving along with the breeze when she walked. It was a majestic sight.

Soon that majestic sight would then become my hell.

I then regained myself to realize that I was already close to her to see her facial with more details.

…I have to stop myself before I crashed into her–

Nevertheless, I reminded myself why I said that ‘Fate was never meant to be nice or even take the side of someone’. it was because of what will happen in the future, mine and this world…

The feeling of the cold floor on the palm of my hands along with the soft sensation on my… lips?

Quickly I opened my eyes until they widened more, witnessing the reason why I felt a soft sensation on my lips.

Her beautiful black eyes were hiding behind her eyelids. Her long smooth black hair was against the dirty cold floor while the sunlight covered us both.

My reaction enlightened fast that I backed away from her hitting my back with the concrete handrail of the stairs.

I felt my face hot as I began to process what had happened, what I had done to this girl.

Looking both sides of the corridor, trying to find if someone else had seen the incident. Thankfully no one was even close, after all classes had already begun.

“…You… took my…”

I turned my head to the source, it was the girl. Her index finger was touching her lips, before giving me a hateful and angry expression.

Her black eyes had a lit flame in the center of both of them. She then tilted her head down, letting her eyes be covered by her bangs.

She then got up, and walked towards me. Not a single word was spoken, but only a loud smack could be heard.

Then again, she just walked away before leaving into a classroom…

…If I could just clear this misunderstanding but she slowly left without saying a word and she did not let me swallow what just happened.

Just how much will go south and cause chaos for me and my so-called ‘youth’. I said to myself as the teacher walked in and left the door slowly open.

I sighed once more before putting my full attention to the remainder of the day. Thinking that nothing else is going to go wrong.

But boy I was wrong…

“Students, now we will begin to present ourselves.” Said the teacher as students growled at his words, “Calm down, I know some of you probably know the whole class but there are some who don’t even get the luxury to even do so. So less complaining and more working.”

The loud complaints soon died down but there was still mumbling from some students that glanced around the class until their gazes landed on me.

Their mumbling didn’t even seem to be mumblings but normal talking volume, or at least for me to hear them talk about me in their conversation.

“Now. Who would like to start this task?” The class got dead silent when the teacher finished his sentence. The couple of seconds that passed felt like minutes before the teacher added on with a tired sigh.

“If no one will then I will do the honors. My name is Xavier Tippit, call me Mr. Xavier or Mr. Tippit. However, if you like, you can drop the honorifics.”

When Mr. Xavier finished his introduction, many hands rose. Then again, the room got louder.

I’m surprised that students have questions for Mr. Xavier, it seems that the students have gained more comfort than before.

In that time, Mr. Xavier tried his best to answer some of the questions that the students had, especially the questions about his personal life. That is until he held up his hand, bringing the raised hands down.

“That is enough about me, now I will let you guys take it from here.” Announced the teacher with a tired and cold tone. The students from the first row started then, the students from the second row did the same. One by one, each was explaining their hobbies and some even said their goals for highschool.

I learned many things from my classmates, even interesting things that sometimes were considered weird.

That is when the last row’s turn, more specifically, my row. Though instead of going right to left, we were told to go left to right, leaving me last. With little hope I look to my left, thinking that there would be someone there so that I wouldn’t be last.

I smiled bitterly in my mind, looking at the empty set next to the window that I was originally looking through.

…This is just not my day is it?

“Mr. It is your turn.” I rotated my head to the front of the class. “You look confused, dear student,” added Mr. Xavier as he stared at me with frowned brows.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

I then gazed to my left, seeing as the whole class was looking at me and so was my row.

“We already went so it is your turn.” explained the boy right next to me. Not being able to say something, I only nodded as a response.

I opened my mouth but I was cut off, “Stand up like the rest of the students if you will.” Said the teacher.

I stood up from my seat slowly, trying to get a grip of my nervousness that was going berserk. Letting out a few breaths, I once again opened my mouth and began my introduction.

“I am Colter Hart. My hobbies are learning interesting things about other people. I hope we can get along.” I finished before a bunch of hands raised, but Mr. Xavier denied any more questions towards me.

Letting out a victorious breath out as I sat back down. Finally I have taken the first step, now I can relax before anything else starts.

A slight low sound knock was heard from the door, making the professor leave towards it. “Hey, you are Colter Hart as the son of Amelia and Julian Hart?” Asked the boy from earlier.

I nodded to answer his question when I asked, “You know them?”

The boy’s brown eyes had stars in them, “How can no one know them? They are the reason why this nation has been peaceful!” He exclaimed, afterwards he extended his arm. “I’m Alexis Stillinger, son of Charle Stillinger.”

A bright smile appeared in the brown-haired boy as he waited for my handshake.

After a moment of hesitation, I instantly grabbed his hand and shook it. A smile that reached my eyes was displayed before speaking, “I hope we get along, Alexis.”

At that moment, the professor’s voice was heard.

“Alright listen up students. It appears that we have another new student.”

At first I didn’t pay attention until Alexis told me. I looked up to the front of the class, thinking that I wasn’t the only one new in this school. However, the moment I saw who that person was, I’d hoped that I was the only one new here.

The black hair.

Those black eyes.

There wasn’t a mistake, she was the one from this morning.

Still my rampaging thoughts didn’t seem to come to an end, yet they did. More like a voice made them stable, enough to make it feel like a void.

“Hello everyone, I am Larisa Arcand. I hope we can all get along.”

She then bowed to the whole class, seconds later she slowly stood straight. Opening her eyes slowly, looking at the floor, the desk in front of her, then those dark-black eyes stared at me with an unexpected eye expression.

I saw how her eyes trembled as she studied my face. I guess she too couldn’t get over the incident earlier in the morning.

Furthermore, she had regained herself that it appeared that only I had seen that side of her. Still frozen in place, I saw how the professor was calling her over and over again, that is when I faced Alexis.

His dumbfounded face looked at her like it was love at first sight.

Then he turned to me and said, “S-She looked at me, a low-ranking noble. Do you think that I might have a chance?” More confusion entered my mind, well I don’t judge the kid after all she is what she looks like, a majestic being as some people started to call her the moment they saw her enter the room.

“Now let’s see where you can sit.” Said Mr. Xavier. His eyes fastly passed by every seat there was until his gray eyes fixated next to me. I wonder what could he be thi–

“Colter Hart raise your hand,” not wanting to raise my hand, the brown-eyed boy raised it ‘my’ hand against my will. The grayish-black haired professor then continued, “Ms. Arcand, you will be sitting next to Mr. Hart along with Mr. Stillinger.”

I could tell that under her ‘mask’ that she was baffled at what she just heard, but her emotions didn’t betray her, instead she obediently followed what she was told. Not paying attention to anyone she continued to walk towards the seat she was assigned.

I didn’t, I couldn’t let my curiosity get the better of me. However, my body refused my order and turned my head to Larisa. Surprisingly enough, she was staring right back at me.

CHARLOTTE BAMFORD

I opened my eyes after what appeared to be a long night's sleep.

My heart raced as I was thinking that we were close enough to begin the rescue mission.

I needed this feeling, this fuel, to keep me going towards this never ending goal. But that didn’t mean that I had to do it alone, after all I now have comrades…friends that I could depend on now.

Getting up from my bed, I started to make my way to my closet. Grabbing my usual attire as the words from my grandpa, just as I finished my training with Grace and Noah, Dale walked up to us.

A satisfied smile was on him, as if I was living up to his expectations. It probably has been a while since I’ve seen him with a smile like that. Then, his smile vanished and was replaced by a concerned one.

“Something on your mind grandpa?” I said as I wiped the sweat off of me with a towel. What could be possibly affecting him mentally, or can it be a problem that has come up.

He answered a couple of seconds later, hesitantly, “N-No, Charl, is just that I wonder how Alter and the girls are doing. Are they eating well, sleeping well, are they healthy?” His voice trailed off as he looked into the horizon. Finally, he let out a tired sigh as he was about to leave.

What is it? What type of situation is my grandfather in to expressly tell me by his emotions that he’s in a bad place. I could try and ask him but I know he won’t answer honestly but instead show a facade of happy emotions.

“Little one, are you ready for today?”

As I finished changing into the outfit for the expedition, I turned to see who’s familiar voice it was. I smiled slightly at the thought that he was the first one to come up with a plan or even the idea of rescuing Alter and the girls in the first place.

The aura around him seemed to change to what it was before. It was more fierceful more powerful, heck he could probably fight all six espions at once and keep up. However, he is not the only one who has gotten stronger, my team, my friends too have gotten stronger than what they were before.

“Yes grandpa, I’m– we are finally ready.”

*

During the past month. My grandfather along with the three monarchs, the elven monarchs, the demi-human monarchs, and the human monarchs, have been researching a way to create and open the portal dimension. Many failures were acquired but many clues were too, each step, each failure brings them closer to succeeding in creating one.

A handful of researchers had quit during the first week, saying that this was an insane project to do. But the more that quit the more that joined and helped decode whatever ancient message that was encrypted in the walls.

The more nights they spent studying the ancient texts, the more they learned.

Before we knew it, pictures were discovered deeper into the ancient cave. These pictures seemed to be like picture books that I used to read when I was a child. However these ‘pictures’ showed no major details but importances of it.

It felt unreal to see these portraits on the walls, the more I inspected, the more intriguing it became.

[Torch]

The small flame that was bright enough to lighten until the end of the pictures. I traced the lines with my fingers to feel the sensation of the carving, how beautiful, I thought.

I activated my ring phase and manipulated the mana in the atmosphere. I had one idea in mind but I didn’t know if it would work. That’s when footsteps were made, feeling the aura I already knew who it was but I still didn’t realize it.

His wheat-colored hairs glowed in the dark before being in the range of my ‘torch’, as mana oozed out of his body revealing his own power.

I stared at the wheat-haired silhouette as it came into my firing light showing his eyes that contained power unlike before. His determination danced through his iris as he looked around until he set his sights on me.
