Soon, I need to work on my health points albeit reluctant.

Unlike other games, one does not need to "chip away" an enemy's health points to kill them. Fatally wounding an enemy instantly depletes every health point, for example, slitting a human's throat.

However, health points do determine how much my body can take.

One normal hit is enough to send me to the afterlife...

I get up and pull the curtains aside, letting the sunlight into the room. The room only has a bed and wardrobe but both are of excellent quality.

*Knock knock*

"I'm awake," I say.

The door swings open.

"Good morning sir, Melissa is in her office. I am here to escort you." a beautiful voluptuous woman with braided green hair and emerald eyes says.

I nod and follow her.

The woman brings me to an office. The desk opposite the door has stack after stack of paperwork. Behind the tower of documents is a small Melissa.

Melissa puts her feather pen away and stands up. "Good morning! How was the night? Pardon my subordinate yesterday, he had too much on his mind."

"It's alright."

Melissa takes out a storage ring and points at mine, trying to transfer some items. Unfortunately, my storage ring is full...

"...If you don't mind, can I buy that storage ring?" I ask.

"No no, it's fine. Consider it my gift, your rewards are inside."

Melissa's storage ring is filled to the brim with gold...

"On a side note, I want to offer you a contract," Melissa says.

?

Melissa hands me a piece of paper. "I've seen your duel with my subordinate yesterday, it was impressive."

What? It was mediocre at best-

Melissa grins. "Your control of mana was splendid."

...

Right, I remember now. Melissa's left white eye is a special divinity eye that enables her to see mana. Thankfully I went through Manafication and could hide my demonic self.

I return the grin and immediately sign the contract.

"Eh? Wait-"

"If it's to get closer to you, I'm willing to accept any conditions," I say.

"What..."

...

That was a bad attempt...

Yet, I look at Melissa to find her slightly red.

Truth be told, I quickly scanned through the contract and found no abnormality. It is a simple mercenary contract.

"A-Ahem...uhm...anyways, d-did you read the news?" Melissa asks.

I shake my head. She passes me a stack of papers.

"We managed to drop a bomb on The Imperial Army for their lies and they are working to cover it up, probably with brainwashing and rumours. Also, you are fairly popular now. The Royal Family has invited you to a banquet two weeks from now for the prince's birthday."

"Me? Why?"

Melissa sighs. "It is likely to investigate your origin...and confirm your strength. But don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you now that you are one of us."

"Thank you, likewise."

I leave Melissa alone after she hands me the invitation envelope. The voluptuous woman stands outside the room and smiles at me.

"Congratulations, Mr Arsto. I'm Audrey, I can be your guide for today." Audrey extends her hand. I take her soft hand.

"I see, thank you."

She walks ahead and gestures for me to follow her. Now that I am behind, I notice a small mole at her nape.

...

The short tour was Audrey showing me around the station and talking about their duties. Now that I am a contract warrior, I have the same authority as regular officers but have more freedom at a reward opportunity cost; I may choose to reject a mission and pick another.

"I will go now, if you have any more questions, you can ask me if you see me around!" says Audrey.

"Sure."

Audrey bows politely and leaves, I return the bow.

Commotion brew when other officers notice me. I stand out too much.

Thus, I quickly slip out of the building to an alleyway.

I take out the communication orb.

"Liam."

...

"S-Sir Arsto? You allowed the news to report about you!?" Liam exclaims.

"Yeah. I also signed a contract with them, don't worry, I have my plans."

Liam sighs at the other end. "Please be careful."

"Anyways, how is everyone and what's the situation?"

"Well. Lily survived due to your medicine stabilising her condition, there are great healers at Port Ridge. In addition, The Imperial Army started its advance to recapture the West and rescue any remaining survivors. As for the infected...they deem them too dangerous and are killed on sight. Oh yes, one more thing, we are with the Knight of Justice."

!

"Rena?" I ask.

"Yes."

"Alright. Try to maintain a passive friendly relationship with her. Don't pry too deeply about her albeit tempting."

And the call ends.

...

Rena met the gang...

At this rate, our meeting will be inevitable. I hope my current self is enough to deceive her...she is a protagonist with an abnormal sharp instinct.
