Ok now that Pakas has left let’s get started about why Pakas invited you for dinner. I didn’t want him to tell you because I wanted your answers to be honest. By that I mean without anytime to add stuff that won’t be necessary. So Pakas invited you because of the space station project. I want you to tell me about what the military would want ona space station. Think about it for a minute but don’t go overboard. Then when you’re ready tell me what the military would want.

For the next few minutes I watched as the admiral thought about the space station.

The military would want a base on the space station. They would want the space station to be a base. So if you would be able to put it on the border it would be a good place to house troops on border patrol. But similarly it would give the military more security because it would be harder to get on a space station then a base on the ground.

So if you could turn the space station into one big military base then everyone would be happy. That would mean anything you find on a base on a planet would have to be on the space station. You might as well throw in a few stuff that are not on the base. Said the admiral.

So basically I’m going to have to build a city that’s main business is the military. While also making sure it’s functional to use for the purposes of the military. So how big of a space station would the military want.

For that I would want to get numbers from my bosses and they might want to make it a joint base. Which would mean it would have to be bigger then if it was just for the navy. You would have to assume that there would be close to a hundred thousand permanent residents. Then you have all the space the military would need for equipment. You are looking at a very big space station. Give me a few days and I will speak to my boss. After that I will get back to you with what they tell me. Said the admiral.

With that the admiral left and it was time to go to bed because tomorrow we were back in the council room discussing the space station. So I went to my room got undressed took a shower and went to bed. I woke up the next morning and went to the gym I went through my unarmed katas. After that I took a shower got dressed had breakfast. After breakfast I headed over to the council room.

With the week that I took off to research the space I was ready to get the project moving forward. Even without having the information about what the military might use the space station for. But after speaking to the admiral last night I realized that it wasn’t so important what the military would use the space station for. As long as I designed a superior space station that was easily modifiable. Because if I could modify the designs easily then I didn’t have to know the exact things the military wanted. Also if my designs were as good as I wanted them to be a decent engineer would be able to work with them.

So I sat down at the head of the oval shaped wooden table in the council room and waited for the rest of the council to show up. When they showed up I called the meeting to order and I got down to assigning jobs to the different department council members.

Ok everyone listen up to the announcements then you could go out and actually get started on your graduation projects. You are to make what you are supposed to be making for your graduation projects as small as you possibly can. While also making it as powerful as you can. Now of course there are some exceptions to that rule. Now I will name a few of them. Batteries they should be as small as possible while still holding as much charge as possible. Guns biggest punch while not taking up a lot of power. Of course those were only examples you should be able to figure it out. Now there is one thing left to discuss and that is the actual metal composition of the space station. So you people that are working on the hull composition you’re going to want something that is as strong as you could make it. But you have to remember to make sure it is feasible to use the metal that you are going to be recommending. It has to be strong yet usable and most of all it can’t have exotic metals that are going to cost a lot of money.

That goes for all of you no matter what you are working we want it to work but it can’t cost a unreasonable amount to make. But if there are options of cheaper or more expensive of the thing you are supposed to make, make both. If there is more then two make them all so there are options to pick from. That also goes for all of you if you have time to make more then one of what you are supposed to make more then one. The key for this thing is going to be options like that we could use old designs. So go get to work I want to see some basic stuff within two weeks.

That was what I told everyone and this options thing is something that would workout great for me. But I would have to clear it with the admiral so I spoke to Pakas and asked him to set up another dinner. Then I worked on the space station for a little bit and when I finished I checked in on what all the groups were working on. The reason for that was because I wanted to see what direction they were going in to accomplish what they wanted. I was able to look at what they were doing because all of the computers in the space station building were linked. If you had the code you check what has been happening.

It looked like most of the groups were looking at what already been done to see what not to do. Some of them had already done that so they were moving on to coming up with new ideas for the project that they were supposed to be be working on. Once I made sure all the groups were working I went to Pakas’s house to get ready for the admiral tonight.

When I got to Pakas’s house I went to the kitchen to start preparing for dinner with the admiral. Once everything was going the right way I headed to my room took a shower and got dressed. After getting dressed I headed down to the seller and picked out an aged beverage that I thought would go good with the rest of the meal. With everything taken care of I sat down and waited for the admiral to show up.

When the admiral showed up it was a repeat of the last time we had dinner together. The reason nothing of importance was discussed at the dinner table was because it is not very nice. At least that’s what I learnt in etiquette classes but If you ask me there is nothing wrong. But then again what do I know so I kept my mouth shut about important topics. But that’s not to say we didn’t speak about anything because that would be a mistake. We just didn’t discuss anything of importance. We spoke about other stuff that are allowed to be discussed at the dinner table. In fact there is a whole list of stuff which about you are allowed to talk about at the dinner table. Of course I knew it all from when I learnt it at etiquette class.

Those classes were quiet helpful which was good because it helped me from making a fool of myself. Which was also good because it helped me keep a lower profile.

When the meal was done I took the admiral to the library. We sat down opposite each other on the couch and in between us was a small table that had a few pastries and drinks. Once the admiral was comfortable we got down to why she was over for dinner.

Ok before you start asking me what the military wants in a space station I will tell you what the said. They said that they don’t believe it will get done so they won’t waste their time by having someone consult with you. So you’re not going to be getting a military perspective from them. But now it’s time for you and me to talk.

I got nervous when the admiral said it was time me and her to talk. I was wondering what it would be about something I did to her. I just wasn’t sure what she wanted from me. This was the first time that I felt nervous and it bothered me. I tried not to let it show that it bothered me. I’m not sure how successful I was but I answered hoping to get this over with.

So what is it that you want to talk to me about. If it something I could do I will do it so what is it that you want.

I want to speak about me and when I’m done you will figure it out. If you can’t figure out what I want then I don’t want that thing anymore. So let’s start at the beginning of my life and move forward from there.

I grew up on one of the planets that the government controls. My parents found out pretty quickly that I’m pretty smart. But I still had a normal life and did everything a girl would do. I went to college on a scholarship and got my degrees. After college I decided I wanted to serve in the military so I applied for the lycanthrope government war college. I was smart and the degrees that I had helped with me getting accepted.

That’s how I joined the military. I knew that I would probably get to high middle management of the military because of my degrees in management plus others. But I wanted to do more then sit at a desk I wanted to serve in the fleet. But it was going to be very hard for that to happen.

But the reason that it did happen and I advanced to where I’m at is because I saw something a powerful family didn’t want me to see. So they wanted me to keep my mouth shut so I leveraged my silence for a few things. One was some money that I gave to an investor I met in college that I trusted. He takes care of my money and has been doing that successfully for years now. Another thing that I got from this family was there support in my career.

With that families support I graduated at the top of my class and made to being a fleet officer. From there I slowly rose up the ranks a little quicker then most of my class. Until I finally got posted to the base here I thought that it would be the pinnacle of my career but it wasn’t. What I found out when I got here is that the base here is a kind of dumping ground for the capital world’s problems. But since I was here I made the most of it and I worked on turning this base into what it could be. That’s why the base is what it is today. I worked on actually turning it into productive base.

Now that it is a post that’s really successful other powerful peaple in the military want it. Recently there has been a lot of rumors in the military grapevine that the military is looking for a new admiral for this base. So I wanted to know if I was going to be replaced as admiral of this base. So I called the patriarch of the family that helped get me where I was and they told I was going to be replaced. They told me that there was nothing they could do about it because the people being considered were higher up and more powerful then them.

So I am probably going to lose this position soon and I have made a few enemies over the years so I’m not going to be getting a good posting. So I’m looking for a job and I just have this really big feeling that you could help find a new job. The job I’m looking for is to be in charge of the first space station to be built. So from all the questions that you’ve been asking me I’m assuming that you will build the first one. You might not build it right away but it looks like you will do it soon. So I’m wondering if you might be looking for someone to take the job of running the space station. Because if you are I would like to put my hat in the ring.

Ok it looks like my trying to get information from you didn’t work out as well as I hoped because I was going for subtle. But then again maybe it went better then I had hoped for. Speaking about the space station I would like to build one but I don’t think that the first one will go so well. So if you would be in charge of that meaning taking care of everything then yes you could have the job. But I’m not going to be building it just yet there is still a lot of stuff that are going to need to get done on till we reach that time.

Even though I said you would be a good person for the job I would have to know what it was that you knew about the powerful family that they were willing to help you out.

I saw them kill someone. Answered the admiral.

I’m not sure if you could just leave it at that. That doesn’t sound like something that should be covered up so why don’t you tell me why you did cover it up.

The truth is I kept my mouth shut was because the person they killed deserved it. I had a friend when I was in college that was raped. But when the person who did it was put on trial he was acquitted on a technicality. What really happened was his family protected him and had the evidence tampered with. So the rapist was let go scott free so my friends family arranged for the rapist to have an accident. I helped the family kill the rapist. So they have helped me out ever since trying to repay a debt they think they owe. But if you ask me they don’t owe me anything but they wanted to give me something for helping out.

I lied before about what happened. They gave me the money and help me out. I never asked for it but I don’t want to say no because my friend insisted the first time and I can’t tell her no. Said the admiral

Ok that sounds like it will be ok. I will get back to you when I have an idea about what I’m going to do. There are still a few things that need to be clarified and once that’s taken care of I will know what I have to do.

With that done I walked the admiral out of the library. Once the admiral left I went to my room, got undressed and went to bed.

The next morning when I woke I went to the gym in the basement and went through my katas both armed and unarmed. When I finished with the katas I went to my room, took a shower and got dressed. After getting dressed I went and had some breakfast then I headed over to the space station building.

When the council meeting started it was just a review of what everyone was working on. Once that was finished a few ideas were thrown around. After that was finished everyone left the meeting and went to get back to their projects. That was how it went for the next few weeks. Eventually everyone came up with at least three different options for their projects for the space station.

It took five months instead of the six that was usually given for the graduation projects. With everything done there was an early graduation. At the graduation it was announced that there would be an auction for the research on the space station in one month. With that announcement a plan started forming in my head that would get me the stuff I needed.
