Chapter thirty-two

Author's notes: I would just like to apoligise to Slaggedfire first. Dude, i know you probably think I made this a teaser but that isnt my intention. And fear not, i should get the next chapter out maybe tommorrow. I write this on my ps4 browser alot. and my nephew, a 4yo, likes to hog it pretty often so, yeah. . .

Anyway, the daughter should be meeting Roland in the next chapter. bit of patience pls. I know it seems i do this on purpose but this is just the way it works out most of the time.

I made this chapter cause i had some time. It like 6:59 as i write this and imma go get ready for school in a bit so i dont have time to make a longer chapter and such. Really this is kinda a filler chapter. not much importance in here. as i said i had a bit of time so i just decided to make a short chapter.

So, sorry.

Also, i feel Loki is becoming a kinda abused character. Meh, though few but Roland would get away with treating him like that. Few who knew him anyway,

To other readers, i want to let you know you can ask me any question regarding the story if you want. another guy took the initiative to do so and anyone else can as well.

I need to re-read previous chapters as i forgot some things. i hate reading previous chapters though. But i will have to. Well that is it,

------------------------------------------

Roland found that the city was in a pretty bad state. Bodies of Immortals littered the place. He wondered who would take care of the aftermath of the battle but only for a second or two.

Buildings that were high enough to reach the sky had been burned, cut in half,  smashed or, somehow, reduced to nothing but ashes. He found the last one particularly amazing. Even he would have a bit of trouble doing that.

The woman really did a number on the place. Bodies everywhere and buildings in pieces.

He frowned a bit, thinking of her again for the tenth time.

Her words made it seem as if she knew him. If so, he wondered how he should handle her.

He shook his head. He would deal with it when it got to that point. He gave her a warning to not bring the girl into any grudge between her and Morrigan.

Speaking of the little girl, Roland thought of her numerous times as he strolled about the empty streets.

For some reason he couldnt get the little thing out of his mind and he felt it was a bit unhealthy at this point.

He once passed a stall that held some head gear and such. He had spotted a red sun hat that he idly thought would look good on the adorable girl.

He then shuddered at the thought since it was very odd for him to have one like that.

He wondered why he suddenly had it in regards to the girl.

Ah, the  little girl was pretty cute though.

Indeed, with her snow-colored hair the red would look good on her. . .

Hmm, or that petal pink one would give a more soft, feminine and whimsical feel which may fit a young girl better. . .

Roland frowned once again. These thoughts, where did they even spawn from?

Maybe, as Loki would say,  he was a bit of a lolicon.

He didnt feel he had such interests, though. . .

He took the hats even so. It would be good as a casual gift, right?

Hmm. . ,

He browsed through the various wares the stalls offered but found few things of interest.

Loki found him seveal minutes later when Roland was busy taking a bite of a small cake he located in a small bakery.

He had been sitting there languidly on a iron-wrought  chair, reading a paperback book detailing the adventures of a trained assassin as he fell in love with the daughter of the man he was hired to kill.

He found the book laying on the table next to him and only skimmed the thing before finding himself drawn into the story against his will.

He had just gotten done with the fourth chapter when a child-form Loki ran, red-faced, towards him.

"Roland!" He yelled." Where is she!"

He looked furiously around as he said this.

Roland asked back with a raised brow of curiosity. " Who?"

Loki glared at him. "Gehenna, of course!

Roland let out an "ah" sound. "Oh, her? I let her go. Well, she kind of teleported away. I just gave her the same wound she gave the child, a fair warning not to drag others into whatever feud she and Morrigan and you have, and then she went along on her merry way. Not much to tell, honestly." He took a drink of milk he found in the fridge of the shop he was at.

Loki looked at him incredulously. " Did I not say what sort of person that woman is? Let me make it clear: Her being here is a disaster-class problem. Who knows what havoc she'll cause? I tell you, letting her leave was not a wise choice! Damn, we need to let the other Pantheons know she's here. We need to prepare, make sure she doesnt go overkill. You, since you let her go, have to take the responsibility of hunting her down and literally drive that bastard back to Hell where she belongs!" He pointed at Roland with narrowed eyes.

Roland rubbed his chin. "About that. I've been thinking. Maybe she isnt as bad as you made her seem."

Loki was stunned speechless. He recovered only seconds later." What could possibly give you that idea?"

Roland shrugged. "Well, given her supposed power level she could havve easily kill that girl. But she didnt. If she was a truly heartless person, why would she do that?"

" She probably has her reasons.  Anyway, she isnt the type of thing that can be reasoned with. All the girl knows is how to cause trouble. This moment of mercy is a damn miracle in itself. Dont think much about it." He dismissed.

Roland wasnt aware of the woman's history. He didnt know what evils she commited but somehow he didnt think she was all that bad.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

It was only a hunch, but he felt that she may be different from whatever she was in the past. Though he had no real, hard evidence to suggest that.

Well, in the end it didnt matter much to him. He didnt think much of it at this point.

"And i have no reason to hunt the woman down, so no."

Although he felt that whatever connection they may have is worth knowing, he learned from experience that interacting with past friends or family is not a good idea. His past selves met some of their old friends, family or lovers. Didnt end well. They took the initiative to write their future selves a warning not to seek out or meet with any past acquaintences.

Roland had the note within his Treasury. It said it was best for all involved if they stayed away from each other. Pretend the other didnt exist.

This was partially why Roland always avoided Morrigan in this life. Ever since she first found him in this life, he avoided her like a plague.

"tsk. Fine. But I do still have to notifiy the other Pantheons so they can be on guard. That woman shouldnt even be aware of this place. How did she even come here? Or find the location of the planet? Could somone from one of the Pantheons have told her?" He wondered aloud, his eyebrows scrunching up in worry and curiosity in equal parts.

He let it go for the moment. "Well, I wont be the one dealing with her. No doubt my brother would jump at the idea of hunting the blasted woman and sending her back. He always tries earning brownie points with our old man. Damn tool."

Roland  took one last bite of the cake and stretched his arms as he stood up. "So, is your father still trying to get you to agree to be his--?"

Loki stopped him. "Dont say it!"

"--Heir?"

Loki shuddered at the word.

"Ugh, dont. Just dont. I dont even want to think about that. Let Thor deal with all that boring shit. I like my freedom, thank you.  But nevermind that. We should get back. I left Morrigan with the four kids of yours. If we dont hurry that brat Saren might annoy her and be subject to an early grave."

Roland dodged his gropping hand. " Ah, right. Before then, I would like to ask, who is that little girl who was with her? They seemed a bit close?"

"Hm, yeah. . ." He scratched the back of his head.  " Well, I dont know. Recently she always appears with the girl, treats the girl almost like a daughter or something. Since they look so alike I always thought that Morrigan made the little girl. I hear creating Homunculi are making a comeback. "

Roland was surprised. Morrigan didnt seem the motherly type. Maybe she suddenly got struck with the urge. Strange, though

Loki continued. "I didnt even know much about the girl until Morrigan started teaching at the scho--" He froze, realizing  what he almost said.

Roland's gaze went sharp. " Loki, what were you about to say just now?"

Loki laughed awkwardly. " Hah. . haha, n-nothing. It wasnt anything. You must be hearing things." He said with a smile.

"Loki. . ." Roland warned.

Loki backed away. "Look, it was nothing, really. I mean, it wasnt any big deal. Totally nothing to get worked up over."

Roland moved and grabbed Loki's cheek, hard. "You know, if you dont tell me im not going to let go. I wonder how Fenris would feel seeing her father pulled by the cheek like a child by another man?"

Loki tried to teleport several  away but found that he wasnt able to. "Alright, shit, I'll tell you!"

Roland complied.

"Well?"

Loki held a hand to his cheek, "Hmph, you're lucky you're my friend or you'd be turned into a tiny teddy bear right now." He said hatefully.

"I'd still be able to manhandle you." He smiled. Loki would have carried out that threat too, if it wasnt Roland. "Just hurry up and talk."

Loki sighed

"Okay, so, i may have called in a favor from Morrigan and had he come teach a bit at my school. And I may have. . .forgotten to tell you. Not my fault though, it just slipped my mind, you know? I would have told you, trust me."

Roland's eyes flashed dangerously. "Loki, you had no right to keep that from me. You know how i feel about seeing Morrigan! This isnt some game for your amusement! What's between me and her is our business and I at the very least had hoped you would respect that!" He said venomously

He was truly disappointed and angry right now. He felt betrayed that Loki would keep something so important from him.

He hook his head in disgust. " I know you're curious, but this isnt something to joke about. She and I have. . .We just shouldnt be around each other, got it? If you really want to know maybe  I'll tell you, someday. But for now just wait patiently and dont ask questions, okay?" Roland forced himself to calm down and talk evenly.

Loki looked tired. "Fine. Im sorry. There. I know I shouldn't have kept it from you, but I didnt think that it was such an important matter to you, alright? I wont meddle anymore, if that's what you want."

Roland nodded stiffly. " It is. Thank you."  He held out a hand. "Well, as much as i would like to run away, I did tell her we would have a talk later. I cant exactly go back on it. I think its's time we had a good chat anyway. Besides, I did promise to help those four and I can do that if im not here with them."

Me and her, we needed to have a talk eventually. I suppose now is as good a time as any. And it seemed that woman Gehenna wants her head on a silver platter for some reason. If nothing else i owe it to Morrigan to make sure she doesnt get killed. Afterall, she was once my wife, I suppose.

"Let's get out of here then."

The two were gone in an instant.
