The Journey of a Hundred Souls
Chapter 45: Advancing Towards the Objective.

Chapter 45: Advancing Towards the Objective.

It’s almost night. I was reading and relaxing the entire afternoon after putting on the show for the new residents of the city. For the most part, I was left alone today, at least up until now.

“May I ask the reason why you want to teach the young?” Monica asks me as soon as she enters the office.

“The first reason is that we will need more mind-oriented people in the future. It’s easier to teach children than adults. The second reason is that I want to find more people who want to learn magic.”

“Guess it’s not all from the goodness of your heart then.”

“I still live here if you don’t know. If I don’t make sure this city doesn’t become a crime-infested place, I will suffer later.”

“What do you mean?”

“When people have nothing to do, it’s usually the young that first resort to crime for any reason.”

“I see.”

“There is also the fact that their level of education is pretty bad from my point of view. Most of these letters are pretty much copies of one another.” I say pointing to the letters I made the people write in exchange for the food.

“That's to be expected.”

“Maybe so, but I think that shouldn’t be the norm. At least I already managed to make a list of how many and who I have to look for tomorrow.”

“What about the girls?”

“I don’t think they need help with the basics again. Alfina is pretty far ahead for her age and the other two received education.”

“I hope you know what you are doing.” She says as she mounts me on the sofa.

“What?” I try to say before she begins to kiss me quite intensely. I enjoy it a bit but the strange feeling I get from her kinda spoils the mood.

After a minute or two she stands up and leaves like she did nothing. One day I will discover what is happening, for now, let’s enjoy things as much as possible.

With nothing else to do, I go for a walk around the city. Some shops are closing as I reach the center of the town but before one of them closes I try to approach the door as I see something that interests me a little.

“Excuse me. Can I buy something?”

“Oh, hello, Lady Lucia. I am closing, but sure.” The man who runs this shop says to me.

I quickly walk towards a shelf and grab a pile of books that is pretty cheap now that I can look at the price. Only 400 kir for 9 books and they are in good condition. I quickly pay and go back to the mansion where dinner is being prepared.

I go to my room and sort the books there as they are mine. Two of them are the tales of a knight and his horse that I saw in the office. At least one of them has a beastman protagonist instead of a human for a change. Five books are part of an encyclopedia I read when I was in the Purple Dragons. In those, you will find information about pretty much any animal and monster. This is a slightly older version than the one I read but only by two years.

The two last books are the ones that almost had me screaming in happiness. The Dragon Knight is the first book of the two and The Swordsmith is the other one. I never saw any books like this. They are not new books either. They date to the beginning of the silver age. These must be reprints or very, very well preserved books.

I take a quick look at both of those before dinner. The Dragon Knight, as the name suggests, is a book about a knight that partners with a dragon. Looks like they both want to defeat some sort of evil dragon.

The Swordsmith is as described at the beginning of it, “A tale about the first man to ever learn from the Sword God himself.” I am curious about this but I restrained myself and went down to eat dinner.

During dinner, Sophia starts to question me.

“I heard from Monica but is that really the reason why you want to teach those kids?”

“It’s either that or creating industry and I don’t think we have what is needed to create one.”

“Yeah, we don’t have anything that is only available in our city that is produced here.”

“We can provide intelligent people for those who need it. If people need to come here to acquire smart people, money will come with it and maybe they will bring their business here.”

“But aren’t you bad at teaching?” Alfina asks me.

“Only the hard stuff. You are very intelligent, don’t you know? You can write better than most of the adults I know.” She gets all flustered.

“And us?” Maxia asks.

“You three are still my priority. So if you need anything just ask. Also, I think you will have a lot of subjects to train your healing on starting tomorrow.”

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t think building houses is the safest job out there.”

“I get what you are saying now.”

“Speaking of magic. Those spells were really powerful. I wonder what that would do to someone who couldn’t defend against it.” I say to Mess and Sophia.

“Those were the highest levels of advanced magic. ” Mess says to me.

“I was surprised when Mess told me that he also could use it. Usually, you need to join the military to learn or even know that those runes exist.”

“I can imagine why. Also, Mess, I found out about the Sword God. Is there a Spear God or something similar?”

“A better term for the Sword God would be the Smith God, but he himself said that he likes the Sword God title so that's what people call him.”

“Good to know.” That explains a few things.

After this little talk, we all go to prepare for the night. I go back to my room and begin to read The Swordsmith. The other book seems to be the better one so I want to read that later.

I read for a while, take a bath and come back to my room to read. I am not getting sleepy nor my mind is suffering from lack of sleep like it did in the past when I used astral projection to stay awake. I am trying to feel if anything is out of place but I can’t detect anything.

As the night goes on I read about a third of the book. At some point, I also removed my clothes. I don’t remember doing any of it. Let’s hope this is because I was so focused on the book.

So far the book tells about a man of no specific race that wanted to forge the most powerful weapons and armor, and give them to people that would protect those he loved as he had some kind of curse that prevented him from fighting.

For the early years of his life, he went around the world, learning from anyone he could and acquiring some rare materials. The man couldn’t fight but was smart enough to not have to run from fights either as he made sure to not even be part of one.

At the very start of his journey, he learned a spell that let him summon his workshop anywhere so he makes weapons for the ones that accompany him during his journey to help them with the challenges ahead.

It's mostly small chapters telling how he encounters a group or a person that is also going in the same direction as him. They share their story, encounter something they can’t fully defeat or outright lose to it, the protagonist along with whoever is with him study or learn something about the materials in the area, he crafts gear for the ones that didn’t flee the challenge and they win in the end, most of the time anyway. Two times he received or learned wrong information and everyone he gave a weapon to died.

At the point where I stopped, he found an abandoned temple of the Sword God, and there, a list of challenges was written. Once all 10 of them are done, the one who did them can summon the Sword God himself and talk to him. The only problem is that you can only see one challenge at a time. The nameless protagonist already finished 4 of those challenges and now the fifth one is visible to him. “Hear your craft.” The other 4 challenges were “Believe in your craft”, “Fail.”, “Create the perfect weapons for someone.” and “Bring punishment to the unworthy”.

“I guess I finished one of those challenges, Mira. Didn’t I?” I whisper to her.

“ “ She says to me.

“Yes, I also failed a lot, so that makes two. I wish I could say I did three but I don’t think I ever crafted something.”

“ “

“I didn’t make Yin and Yang. If I could make this type of thing I would open a workshop.”

“ “

“No, I will not substitute you and no, I will not put clothes on.”

“ “

“A little late to be embarrassed. Here, look.” I say as I masturbate and play with my boobs in front of her.

“ “

“Look as I shower myself,” I say as I cum and let it fly towards my face and chest. I lick a little of it and clean myself with a spell soon after.

“ “

“Come on, this isn’t even in the top 10. You saw me doing way more hardcore stuff, at least for your standards.”

“ “

“Why do you think I am keeping my voice so low? I don’t want them to come here.”

“ “

“No, I will not use you. You are a sword, not a toy, why did you even think about that?”

“ “

“I am not a degenerate. That’s beyond what I think is acceptable.”

“ “

“Alright, let me polish all 3 of you, better take care of stuff now since I can’t sleep anyway. I wish they said something.”

I spend the rest of the night until dawn doing maintenance on my blades, which boils down mostly to clean them from dust. At least this makes them shinier and seems to be brand new.

As the morning arrives I do my morning exercises and after I finish I go eat breakfast.

“Just so you know Sophia, I will still work. At some point, I won’t need to go teach them every day.” I say as we eat.

“...ok.” She says in a way that shows that she was expecting me to say something else.

“Also, Mess, can you make chairs and desks out of Earth so the children can write somewhere? Anywhere near the wall and their encampment will do. It will take a while until I get everyone so you probably will have the time.”

“Sure…”

“Thanks.”

After breakfast, I get a lot of paper and pencils from our storage area in the backyard. We have more of those than I remember. I go towards the encampment where our migrants are after getting how much I think is enough.

After reaching the place it takes me about an hour to find and identify everyone. A total of 30 underage people are here, from people that are a few months away from being 16 years old to 7-year-old kids.

After making sure that everyone has eaten breakfast I move them to the place I saw Mess. he made 60 desks so there is enough for everyone. The desks are facing the wall so I think I could use the wall as a board if necessary.

Before they all sit I start to ask some questions.

“Who doesn’t know how to write and read at all? No need to be embarrassed, everyone knows nothing at first.”

10 kids extend their hands and answer me..

“All of you, sit in the front,” I say pointing to the desks closest to the wall.

“The rest of you sit where you want, just make sure to be as close as you can.”

Most of them sit near the wall but a few sit on the back rows. They are not really that happy to be here.

I give a few sheets of paper and two pencils to everyone. Pencils are very sturdy so I don’t need to worry about them breaking. I also can carve them really fast if needed using Yin or Yang.

“Listen up. I am going to be very truthful with all of you. This city doesn’t need any of you as you are now. We have no need for adventurers, hunters or guards. If you can’t use your head you will probably have a hard time working here in the future.”

“But there are a lot of trees here. Can’t we just sell lumber?” One of the teenagers asked while pointing south.

“That is the Sure-Death Forest. You don’t do anything to it if you want to live.” The forest doesn’t grow past the point it is now and no one wants what lives in there to come out because people start deforesting.

“Why?” Another kid asks.

I spent a few minutes explaining that there aren't enough strong people to protect this city if everything in that forest came out. Also, the fact that once people start, they will not stop until something makes them stop.

After this, I start the real lesson. Using my magic I made fire constructs of every letter and number near the wall and started to help those who didn’t know what was what to identify it.

Think, write and say it. These are the lessons for the uneducated ones. They need to learn the letters first. They can talk, some even read a little, so it’s not going to take too much time.

The rest I make work on the quality of their writing. Not a single letter I read yesterday had a completely legible sentence. They were writing pretty much anything they wanted, I just gave the stipulation that every letter in the alphabet should be used. This was not something they had to finish, I made sure that they took it slowly so I could read it if needed.

We took a short break where they got back to the encampment to drink some water and continued until lunchtime.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

When lunchtime arrived I said they were free for the rest of the day and could do anything they wanted. I left some paper with them along with the pencils and made sure to tell them that they need to take care of those or I would punish them.

After lunch, I focus on my work until night. Then after dinner, I work a little more to compensate for the time I spent in the morning, teaching. After a bath, I spend the rest of the night reading and training as well as the occasional masturbation session. This continues until the 16th, where Alfina, unlike the other days, asks me before breakfast to be ready to have a small birthday party for Mess at night so I shouldn’t leave the city.

On these last few days, the girls pretty much only come home to take a bath, eat and sleep. They are training from what I can tell, but it looks like Alfina was looking for stuff for a party too. The other girls as well as Monica had to help her a little, but it seems that she got all she wanted. It’s not a surprise or anything but Mess is making sure to not put his nose too much in exactly what they are doing.

I on the other hand am at full throttle. The kids that didn’t know how to write and finally memorizing the alphabet and the ones that already knew a little are steadily improving. One of the older boys even asked me to teach him math. Simple math is not that hard so I am focusing on logic, that way he is not fucked over by people talking.

All the kids know what they need to do, now it is just a question of them being able to do it well enough.

The new part of our city is finally starting to take shape. The first building structure is finally complete. Looks like it will be a big house for around 40 people. They spend the majority of these past few days cutting the trees that weren’t part of the Sure-Death Forest that are around the city. They managed to get quite a lot of wood but not all the wood is coming from here. I heard that some of the people that are coming here are sending wood from other places. Three big deliveries of wood came into the city with enough wood to build around 5 of those houses that they started making if I managed to calculate it right. Might be less as I have no idea how much detail the carpenters will put on those houses.

The few blacksmiths we have are loving this. They are making a lot of money selling nails, tools and other things that the people constructing the houses need.

In the past few days I also finished both books and they were quite nice. The Swordsmith doesn't have a really deep story but it’s quite good. After the protagonist left the temple, he could always know if he completed one of the challenges, even if he was not there, by praying. His other 5 challenges were “Kill your craft”, “Sacrifice for your craft”, “Succeed”, “Die” and “Your craft protects you”. The “Kill your craft” one was the next after he heard the voice of his very first dagger he always had with him. A few chapters after he completed the last one, he made a weapon for someone who seemed to be good but was actually a serial killer. The ax he made became so strong that it took over the user. The protagonist had to destroy the thing he made.

The next one was “Sacrifice your craft”. Soon after the last challenge he had to make a special armor for himself and a warrior that accompanied him to pass through a poisonous forest. During this time he found some sort of snake that could eat metal and in exchange for his armor, the snake would make sure that the poison would not kill him for a full day. He did that and along with the warrior, they both made it to the other side of the forest.

After that was the “Die” challenge. Just dying was not the true challenge, but dying because you would not let yourself be corrupted in exchange for survival. The city that the protagonist found after leaving the forest was a bandit's den. Pretty much everyone there was a bandit of some sort, even if they lived together in peace most of the time. At some point the protagonist would have to either arm a bunch of really bad people who were planning on enslaving the nearest village or die. At this point the challenge was the last thing on his mind but he chose death over making weapons for people who would only use them for evil. About a month passed after he died when he woke up inside a church. Someone managed to preserve his body for a whole month using a spell. During that month, because the bandits didn’t have any good weapons, they resorted to stealing from the people of the city. The people retaliated and the people from the village they were planning on attacking also came to aid along with an army of mercenaries. The city was cleansed and liberated and most of the people there began to see that they didn’t need to turn into bandits to survive. With nothing but some simple clothes and his first dagger he continued his journey as soon as he could.

The final chapters show how the protagonist went back home after his journey, got married, had kids and worked as a somewhat famous blacksmith. He never forgot about the challenges but he didn’t want to complete the last one. He didn’t want anyone to die for him, especially any of his creations. Everything he made, was made with the intention of surviving forever and only be used by those worthy of it. In his eyes, protecting anyone else would be better than him as he couldn’t defend people by himself, just arm those who could.

At some point when his kids were almost adults a group of bandits attacked his village. On this specific day, all the guards, mercenaries and adventurers that would usually be at the village, were busy dealing with a wyvern somewhat far away from the village along with everyone who could go. He was the only one left with any experience in combat there.

Using everything he learned on his adventure and what he had, he armed and defeated most of the bandits without losing a single person. But then their leader appeared. He was using weapons and armor superior to anything that the protagonist could make, even with the most powerful materials he ever found. The protagonist tried his best but his curse didn’t let him fight as he liked. He lost every piece of weapon and armor he had on himself besides his very first dagger that he always had at his side, that he always reinforced and repaired, that he talked to and listened to.

Before the fatal blow was dealt, the dagger flew on its own and stuck itself in the chest of the bandit before saying goodbye and exploding, killing the bandit along with it.

The protagonist was very sad. That dagger had a conscience, it was his friend. His oldest friend. Moments later time stopped for the protagonist and in front of him stood a mighty man, 3 meters tall, tanned, long hair made out of fire and eyes burning with passion. The Sword God appeared for him and asked what he wanted. His answer was “My friend.”. The god, seeing the fire he wanted in the eyes of the man, gave him a blessing that would cancel his curse and said. “Go out into the world again. Gather the finest of the materials you think you will need and come back to your home. Once you are ready, you and I will craft the mightiest blade that will never leave your side.”.

The protagonist, along with his two kids, left on another journey where he passed through the same places he did on his last one, gathering materials with the help of the people and creatures or their descendants, he helped along the way on his last journey. This one took only a little time in comparison to the years it took for his first journey. Once he came back, he spent 7 days and 7 nights along with the god in his workshop where he crafted a dagger that wouldn’t just slay his enemies but help and protect its owner and who he wanted to.

The story finishes with an image and something from the author. The image is an X over a circle that is drawn on a sword. “I mark you as my blade, you shall answer my call when I speak truth to my desires. Come my blade, the distance between us doesn't exist, you and I are one and shall forever be.”

I think this is some sort of chant so I try it on Mira but nothing happens. I guess I am expecting too much. It was a pretty good story nonetheless.

The Dragon Knight was a nice story but after the first chapter it just went downhill. The book didn’t need to be that big. The only reason it is as big as it is is that the book has too much detail.

The book has 9 chapters, each chapter was a fight against an elemental dragon working for the big bad dragon except for the first and last.

The protagonist was born alongside a dragon egg hatching due to mysterious circumstances and they both lived like brothers until adulthood. They had contact with both dragons and humans so they were smart. One day a giant dragon, the size of a mountain as said by the book, appeared and killed both the human and dragon villages that took care of them. They only survived because they live between them in the mountains. With revenge in their eyes they scavenged the dragon’s village to find a spellbook that will let the dragon grow at the same pace as another person if they both share the lifespan of the one with less. They used the spell and the child dragon that used to go along with the human protagonist became bigger and stronger. The process also gave the human the ability to absorb the power of the dragons but he couldn’t use it too much or it would go away. They follow the dragon and try to fight it but are almost killed before the evil dragon even notices them.

The rest of the book is about them getting gear, receiving training and fighting the other 7 evil elemental dragons that make the big one as strong as it is. This is where the story stretches itself a little.

The first dragon they fight is the fire dragon, the one, who they discover, sold the villages in exchange for power. The journey to find this dragon and the fight has too much detail about the terrain and the wounds being made. I don’t want to know if it was slightly warm with two leaves of grass growing from a rock 3 meters above the dragon. Or what you can see when you cut something. The places are too generic and the fights boil down to either one of the protagonists getting the attention of the dragon in question and hitting it with an attack they can’t defend.

After defeating the 7 evil elemental dragons, a few years passed and both of them are as strong as one can be. They go and confront the big evil dragon that uses some kind of unique element called Negative, using everything in their arsenal to defeat him. At the end of the battle both sides fall.

It says at the end of the book that because of this journey the dragons truly stopped seeing the smaller races as inferior by default as they could and would do what is necessary to achieve their objectives.

I wonder if those spells really exist. I can imagine a few people who would want it. Me included.

With all that out of the way, I go about my day like normal. At night we have cake and a lot of food. Even Jack and Jackelinne come.

“Thanks.” Mess says to us as we are sitting at the table to eat.

We spend a good part of the night talking and eating. Shame we don’t have anything to play music. At least the cake was good, even though I don’t know what the flavor was.

Almost everyone gave Mess a gift. Only me and Monica didn’t as we didn’t find anything.

At some point during the night Sophia is sitting with Jackelinne in the office, Maxia and Zelfina took Alfina to bed as she was dozing off and I found myself talking with Mess and Jack outside the house as we drank.

“If possible, don’t throw a birthday party for me. I don’t think I can survive another one of these.” Jack says to us.

“You talk like this is the worst thing you could do. Alfina planned almost everything by herself.”

“I see his point. We don’t have the things we used to have to have a party and the people here don’t really know what to do. We spent most of the night just talking.” Mess says.

“The concept of having fun still is hard for them to grasp, ain’t it?”

“The standard of living is not that high, even for rich people, if compared to what we had.” Mess says.

“At least we get some peace here, most of the time.” Jack says.

“Jack.”

“What?”

“Don’t have kids yet.”

“Why are you saying this to me?” he asks flustered.

“You were ready to go all the way.”

“... no.”

“So what? Was that training?”

“...”

“Look man, you waited 15 years, you can wait one more.”

“... Just so you know, I haven't had any privacy in my life for a long time now.” he says to me a little angry.

“I guess that those muscles are only the result of work then.”

“I am kinda surprised that you have more muscle than her.” Mess says to Jack.

“What do you mean?” he asks in shock.

“Take a look.” I say as I force my muscles and pull my shirt up a little.

“I don’t see anything I shouldn’t.”

“I don’t gain muscle, fat or weight no matter what I do.”

“You are probably stronger than her, at least physically.” Mess says.

“Yeah.” I say.

“... You know. I don’t think I could live on like you did.” Jack says to me.

“What do you mean?”

“You know, becoming a girl and all.”

“I am not going to say that I don’t want to have the body of a man again but at this point it’s better to just accept my situation.”

“This is purely scientific. But how does it feel?” Mess asks me.

“I can show you.” I say, clearly joking. Mess gets a little red and Jack begins to laugh for a few seconds.

“Forget it.” Mess says to me.

“Ask a girl when you can or you want the answer to that question to be your birthday present?”

“...no.”

“What are you going to give to him anyway?” Jack asks.

“I don’t know. Maybe anything he asks if I can?” Jack immediately looks at Mess with dirty eyes.

“Dude, no! I am not as desperate as you.” Mess answer to Jack.

“Jack, just go ask for a blowjob or I will do it for you.” I say, a little angry.

“... You would?” He asks,100% serious.

“Goddammit!” I say as I stand up.

I quickly enter the mansion before any of them can do anything and go straight to Jackelinne.

“Hello?” Jackelinne asks as she sees me entering the office.

“Come with me.”

“Sure?” She says as I grab her hand. Jack catches up with me and I grab him too.

“Monica! You too.” She looks at me in confusion but abides nonetheless.

I bring all of them to my room and throw Jack and Jackelinne there while cleaning them with a spell before closing the door.

“Jackelinne, help him or I will do it myself.” I lie to her. I will not give him a blowjob. “Could you please put a sound barrier in the room?”

“As you wish.” Monica says as she uses the spell.

After a minute they try to leave but I block the door.

“I hope this is because you two finished.” They stop. Monica also leaves after this point.

After around half an hour they knock on the door. Strangely enough when I open the door it seems like nothing happened.

“We finished.” Jack says to me a little calmer.

“You finished something at least.” I say as I look at Jackelinne. She is clean.

“We resolved the situation like adults.” She says with a bit of a red face.

“I hope so.”

“If you don’t mind, we will be leaving now.”

“Goodnight them.”

“Thank you, for you too.”

I accompany them down where they say their goodbyes to Sophia and Mess, who is now eating some of the candy left on the sofa.

“And the girls?” I ask Monica.

“They fell asleep along with Alfina.”

“I see.”

Sophia also leaves for the night and I stay with Mess as Monica cleans what was left of the party.

“Were you serious back then?”

“About your birthday present?”

“Yes.”

“Yes.”

“Even if I asked something like Jack implied?”

“If you really want it I could do it.”I say in a tone that doesn’t imply I want to do anything. I am pretty sure I can just do anything I put my mind to, enjoying it on the other hand, I don’t think I can.

“... It would feel wrong.”

“Hey, it’s your call.”

“It’s going to take some time then. I have no idea what I want.”

“Let’s hope it’s something I can do.”

“You know, I am somewhat curious about what you are exactly trying to do.”

“With what?”

“Everything.”

“What do you mean everything?”

“I thought you were going to go after the Church but you didn’t. Then you started to teach the girls, after that you are now in a fight with the Magic Institute and you are also educating the youth. I can understand Jack, he wants to farm and fuck, you? Not so much.”

“I am just doing stuff while I wait. I want to go back to the Maka Kingdom but I promised to not do anything that would start a war so until I either get enough power to do what I want or they fuck up, I wait.”

“... For now I just want to finish what you asked me to do.”

“Speaking of that, how is it going?”

“Progressing at a snail's pace. Do you have any idea how hard it is to make a rune?”

“Programming hard?”

“Probably.”

“I guess it will take a while.”

“Well, if I finish this we may have some hope of still seeing technology in our lifetime.”

“I pretty much asked for a battery. How is that going to help create technology?”

“You are a walking nuclear power plant. Imagine what people with the smarts to create stuff can do when they don’t need to be preoccupied with the energy things will use.”

“At times like this I wish I knew how to make a computer.”

“Technically speaking, we can make a primitive one.”

“I am talking about a modern one.”

“Well, let’s hope someone makes one or something similar. We lack entertainment.”

“You tell me.”

“I will go to bed now. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

He goes up to his room as I stay in the living room with Monica. It’s a little later than we usually go to sleep so I am keeping her company. Just a few minutes later she finishes and sits with me on the sofa.

“You are a very suggestive person.” She says.

“It’s in my nature whether I like it or not. Also I did that for Jackelinne.”

“How?”

“You can clean your face of a child but not your belly of one.”

“You are technically correct.”

“I don't know exactly what is going on but they will do something they regret if they don’t take care of themselves.”

“If you say so.”

“Well, I will also go to bed now. Goodnight.”

She grabs me and kisses me.

“Goodnight.”
