Chapter 8: Chaos

Chapter 8: Chaos

“Honey please, calm down before you begin to talk.” My father tries his best to calm down my mother.

My mother is scared for something, like something wants to get her and hurt her. She is panicking so much even that she isn’t listening to anyone.

“What is wrong with mom?” I ask my father knowing he will answer.

“Orvar get your sister and pack the things you will need the most. We will be moving, now!” He commands me while holding my mother who is trembling in fear.

I looked around to find my sister but I couldn't see her in the garden, I looked around to be sure but she really was not in the garden. Then I checked inside and I also couldn’t find her there.

My father came running past me to upstairs.

“I found Arora, just go get your stuff now!” He run off to upstairs.

I also walked upstairs to my room, to pack my most important stuff. Once in my room I looked around what to take with me, I did not know what to take with me.

I took a backpack from the floor and walk to my closet. I grabbed a few pair of clothes and then turned around. I looked around again not sure what to take, I remembered that I had a knife in my drawer.

I walked over to my drawer and packed the knife; I got it a time in Basin town from an adventurer when he heard my birthday had passed. We did not even know who he was but he still gave me the knife as a present.

I unsheathed it and saw myself in its reflection. I packed it in my backpack before getting some other stuff from my drawer.

When I was done I walked down stairs to find everyone waiting for me.

“Orvar, did you get everything you needed?” My father asks me.

I replied. “Yes I have everything.”

“What is going on and why are we going?” My sister asked wanting answers from my parents.

Our mother answered her. “W-We will tell you when we are safe, okay?” She sounds terrified.

Arora nodded.

Our father bended down to one knee before us and gave us something.

“There is a chance we need to fight so, take these weapons and use them if it’s really necessary.” He pulled out two weapons.

He handed me a short sword. “Orvar, take this and try not to overwhelm yourself when you fight.”

I grabbed the short sword from him and nodded.

As I placed the sword on my hip he turned around to Arora.

“We only had one small axe so be careful and don’t make risky moves. You only have one axe instead of two, that means if you make a mistake it won’t be so forgetting as a mistake with two axes.” He handed over the axe to Arora.

“I won’t make a mistake I promise!” She grabbed the axe and looked at it for a while. Being happy to have her first weapon.

“And Arora.” Our father continued.

“Yes?”

“Protect your brother whenever you can.”

“I will protect him as best as I can!” She promised while holding her back straight.

Our father chuckled.

“So much energy, even at times like this.”

Our mother is still terrified, she looks like she knows she will be eaten alive by a monster.

Her eyes are all over the place checking everywhere too see if everything is normal, she is trembling with fear like, she lives in a country where it is always freezing.

Our father is looking worried about what will happen, I cannot figure out what is happening with everyone, but it begins to infect me too.

“Orvar? Do you still have some of those mana stoned?” Our father spoke up.

“I think I still have one. Why?” I answered him confused.

He lowered his self to me. “Can you get them? They will be useful.” He looks at me with a smile. Through his smile I can still see his worry.

“I can get them, just give me a moment.” I said while walking to my shack.

“Be as fast as you can, okay. And take your transporter too.” My father said to me while I walked away.

I walked to my shack to get the mana stone I have been hiding there, one I also took when I was little.

While I run to my shack I can hear my father calling to me.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Don’t waste your mana, you will need it Orvar!”

I kept running to my shack with the fact that I can’t use any mana in the back of my head. I was almost by my shack to get the mana stone I held there.

Opening the door I stepped inside; the moment I stepped inside I saw the floor getting closer to my face. My whole body was panicking by seeing the floor coming closer and closer.

What’s happening? Am I falling?

I didn’t know what happened but my whole body said that I needed to do something to catch my fall.

My body acted out of itself and the mana around me is beginning to get a green glow. As I realized the green glow on the ground, I stopped mid-air of my fall. I have caught myself by using win magic.

I stood up and stand there for a moment going through by what happened.

I tripped over the doorstep, then I began falling to the ground. After I realized I was falling I, no my body used wind magic as a reflex to catch myself.

Orvar, you don’t have time for this you need to get your stuff to run.

Clearing my mind, I went to finish the thing I came to do.

So what do I need to get? First things first, the mana stone.

I went to a corner of my wooden shack and bent down. Sticking my hand behind a pair of boxes with trash that I wanted to use, I grabbed the mana stone after some time searching for it.

I hold the red mana stone up into the air before putting it in my pocked.

I got the mana stone now I can look what I want to take with me.

Secondly I walked up to my workbench and grabbed a box and looked into it. In the box are a few tools that I used for my invention before I got a mind core. I grabbed a small sack out if the toolbox and opened it.

‘I totally forgot I had this.’

In the sack where small light grey marble looking things. I don’t know if they work but they should explode when they get in a big impact.

Also inside the toolbox I grabbed another mana stone but this one was a small one.

I put the sack and the smaller mana stone into my pockets and put away the toolbox. Looking around again with a hurry I saw a hood hanging on the wall.

I wanted to put some spell on it but I didn’t got the time to do it.

As I grabbed the black hood with the cape onto it that would cover my whole body, I putted it into my backpack.

Also grabbing the mask that was part of the hood I also packed that into my backpack before leaving my shack to go back to my parents.

I run back to them to leave and saw only my father waiting for me to return.

I looked around looking for my mother and sister, while I looked around I also saw that my invention was away too.

So I asked my father. “Where are mom and Arora? Did they take the Transporter with them too?”

My father answered my question while walking through the house to the front yard.

I couldn’t see his face but It felt like his worry was worse then before.

“In the front yard waiting for us.” He replied shortly, his voice sounding scared.

We walked through the living room to the front yard and it felt like everything is happening so slow.

Our walking speed feels as we are crawling over the ground. Even if we were crawling we would be faster.

We finally walked out of the front door into the front yard. Everyone looked a bit scared, even Arora did not say a thing when we entered the front yard.

Our parents looked at each other for a moment and nodded. The moment after that our mother begins to talk.

“W-We are going to…” She paused taking a few deep breaths before continuing. “We are going to the…Luma Falls.”

“Isn’t that the capital of Infinita?” Arora asked our mother.

“Yes it’s the capital.” Our father answered her question.

I didn’t know what Infinita was so I asked it.

“What Is Infinita?”

Arora answered. “Infinita is the continent we live in. Our continent is divided in four kingdoms and the Luma Falls is the capital of Infinita. The four kingdoms are-“

“You can explain it when we are on our way.” Our father cut her off.

Everyone stayed silent for a moment.

There was a cloud before the sun so everything turned darker, a giant shadow covering the place we stood on.

That moment something happened, there was a shiver that run down on my spine.

I look at everyone else who was standing around me and I saw all their faces turn white while getting an expression of horror on their faces.

The air around as begins to cool down.

Our parents looking at each other before screaming.

“We need to go now!”

What is going on? And what is after us even if it is a thing. Will we be far enough away from them when we are in the luma falls?

All those questions running around in my mind, none of them could get answered at this moment.

My mother and Arora already began to run while my father waited for me until I got the Transporter with me.

I directly run to my Transporter and grabbed it by a handlebar, when I grabbed it I lifted it a small bit into the air and redirected it. With the redirection I can run to my father.

While running at my father, he already begins to walk away. So I did not hesitate and I begin to run faster to my father.

I am catching up to him, but the moment I caught up to him he grabbed the Transporter and let me be able to run faster. He lifted the Transporter while running and he is holding it under his left arm.

He constantly looked over to me if I was doing okay.

“Are you tired Orvar?” He asked me while seeing me slowly panting more and more.

I looked up at him, he put a big smile on his face to reassure me.

“Yes I’m doing fine.” I managed to say through the panting.

By the time I answered my father we already caught onto my mother and sister.

Every one looked tired from the running even though we just run for a minute.

The facial expression of my mother had not changed a bit from the moment we saw her running out of the house in panic. Her eyes are still wide open, looking everywhere to check her surroundings.

My sister was quite enjoying herself by running. She is smiling while controlling her steps and trying to make it harder for herself. One moment she is running faster and the other she is running slower, just trying to find her limit, even if it is not the best time to do it.

Our father was controlling if everyone was okay. I couldn’t read his expression but he looked concentrated, while checking us and also our surroundings. He keeps looking around, at every tree and rock, where someone could have been, he looked.

I just tried my best to focus on the running and also to keep up with my family. I can’t use my mana right now so I can’t run fast or keep up with them.

After some time what felt like a day, we finally rested for a moment.

I enjoyed it as much as I can, finally I am able to catch my breath and stop panting for a moment.

The expression of everyone where still the same. Arora still enjoyed it while my mother is still in a panic and my father, he is still checking everything.

The more I caught my breath the more I wondered off into my thoughts.

I was thinking about what we could have been doing, when all of this didn’t happen.

It would have been so nice, but I can’t chance reality. Maybe someone can. Is someone able to control reality? I don’t know I don’t think so but, if I need to guess I would say it needs to be done through fate.

“Orvar? Orvar.” I heard my sister call my name.

I looked up and saw everyone ready to leave.

“Are we already going? I want to rest a little bit longer.” I mumbled.

My mother reacted to me. “I don’t want to run either but we can just walk for a bit I think.” I was genuine surprised by the fact that my mother reacted to me.

“T-Thank you.” I replied still surprised.

“It will be over soon. I promise.” My mother filled in to reassure me. As much I wanted to believe it. She sounded like she was talking the truth, like it will be over soon.
