Chapter 7: My own invention

Chapter 7: My own invention

Yesterday after training I did some mana circulation exercises. With those exercises I gather mana from my area, so my mana will recover faster.

‘Today I will win from Arora! I’m sure of it.’ I encouraged myself with this thought, while still lying in bed not wanting to stand up.

“Orvar, you need to come for breakfast. You also need to get out of your bed from dad.” The voice from my sister called out to me, behind the door of my room.

“I am coming!” I groaned as I get out of my bed.

When I stood up, I directly walked too my closet and took the first pair of clothes I saw. I put the clothes on and walked towards the table to eat breakfast.

With my father and sister already at the table, we only missed my mother.

“Where’s mom? I haven’t seen her this morning yet.” I asked while sitting down at the table.

My father responded. “She Is still in bed. She was tired of yesterday.”

We all began eating and we talked about our training. I couldn’t get my mind off the fact that it felt like my father is hiding something about my mother. After a few moments he begins to talk about how my training will look like for the next few months.

“Orvar, about your training.” He looked at me.

I simply nodded so he could continue.

“You will need to train your speed more, you’re too slow now and train more with your magic it needs to get better. If it stays like this then you won’t get on higher shells.”

“Okay and how will I be able to do that?” I asked my father.

“Me!” Arora said enthusiast “I will help you with your speed, because I’m fast, very fast.”

“If you are okay with that Orvar? Then you can start this noon with your speed training.” My father said to me after swallowing.

“I’m fine with it if she can teach me, then I am sure I can do it.”

I take a bite of my breakfast. My father begins to talk again.

“If both of you agree with it then I will give Arora the instructions later.” He waits for our answer before I’m done swallowing.

Arora nodded directly. “I agree with it! I want to train Orvar!”

I nod as I talk. “I agree with it too.”

After we were done talking about the training, Arora and my father went outside, leaving the dishes to me.

‘Why did I stay behind?’

I began to put everything off the dishes away. As I was working Snickers sat on the table.

“Can I get that plate?” I asked him knowing he won’t answer.

He didn’t react and just stayed there looking at me, putting everything else away. When I was done with all the dished except for that plate, I walked around the table trying to take the plate, but he wouldn’t let me get it. He moved along with me so I couldn’t get the plate. I tried to grab the plate but then he just slapped my hands away.

I tried for several minutes until I heard someone coming.

As I looked who it was, I was my mother coming into the room.

She looked tired with her hair mostly in tangles, the bags under her eyes are big and not unremarkable.

“Good morning, mom. Snickers won’t let me get the plate.” I said first.

She yawned before talking.

“G-Good morning, have you tried lifting him away already?”

I thought for a moment thinking if I already tried.

“I don’t think I di- “

On that moment we heard a loud crash. My mother directly investigated that direction.

“W-What was that?” I walked to the door while I asked that.

When I reached the door and looked outside, I saw my father holding Arora’s fist. It looked like she hit him, the next moment Arora jumped up and blew on her hand.

“That hurt and not just a little bit.” She was still blowing on her hand.

My father chuckled with a weak grin while scratching the back of his head. “Sorry, I think I used to much mana to block it.”

My mother rushed past me out of the house in the direction of Arora.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

“Matthew how many times have I told you that you need to be careful!” she said while holding Arora’s hand.

After not even a minute passed and my mother’s hand glowed blue while she holds Arora’s hands. She is using magic on Arora; we both don’t know what kind of magic she has and when we ask her, she completely avoids the topic.

Arora looks at me while her hand is being healed by our mother, she nods at me and I nod back, with this nod we both knew we needed to share what we saw and felt to each other afterwards.

After Arora’s hand was healed by our mother I walked to my little shack, Arora followed me some time after.

While I waited for Arora to come, I poured some off my mana into the invention I was working on. The tires were done the same could be said for the handlebars, now I was making the foundation so it can stay together.

Moments passed until the door of my shack opened, I saw Arora coming in.

“Have you seen it?” she directly asked while just being inside the shack.

“I have seen it but how did it feel?”

I continue to work on the invention while we’re talking about the magic off our mother.

“So, what did you feel?” I asked her while making the tube’s stuck against each other.

“It felt warm and nice, like I was safe.” She said while looking down at the floor.

She walked closer to me and holds a tube for me so I could attach it against another tube.

“Like” She continued “Like I was getting stronger, it felt like I got more power in my arm.”

“So, it can’t be healing magic that possibly can’t be the case.” I answered.

I continued. “Also her hands where glowing blue, darker blue then water.”

A deadly silence came between us while we are thinking about the possibilities.

I broke the silence. “The foundation is done!” I lifted the foundation of the invention in the air.

“Good job, you can still do something.” She said teasingly with a smile.

“You hurt yourself when you attack dad.” I shot back at her.

“because of me we got to see mom her magic.” She countered my defence.

I think for a moment to say something back, but I can’t think of anything.

I sigh. “Fine you win this time. Next time I will win no matter what!”

“We will see about that one, brother.” She annoys me.

“Don’t call me just brother! You know I hate that.” I say to her while pointing a finger against her chest.

She lifts her hand up in the sky. “I know, that’s the reason why it is funny to do.” She answered innocent.

“But what are you making?” She asks me while walking to the invention.

“You will see when I’m done.”

“Only because I teased you?”

“Yes.” I scoff.

“That isn’t fair.”

“Not my problem.” I push her out of my shack.

I continue to work on the invention, while I was working on it, I could hear my father train Arora.

‘Why did mom sound so scared when she tried to sound angry at dad earlier?’ I was thinking about it to myself as I worked.

I couldn’t think of an idea why she would be scared. Recently she is giving longer answers than she did firsts, her whole behaviour changed when we were in Tirion castle.

Why? Why would she be so scared.

I was lost in thoughts until the whole invention was done.

“I’m done. I didn’t think I would be done so fast; my mana is sure useful.”

“I still have this thing maybe if I put it in the invention it would work without manpower.”

I searched for a small stone under my workbench, I took it from our father when he wasn’t looking one time when I was still a baby.

As I found it, I took it from under my workbench. I held the small white stone in the air and inspected it before using it.

The stone was white like fresh fallen snow, it is also a little bit transparent so I can look through it, just a little bit.

I looked where I could place it in my invention. I found the perfect spot for the little stone. In the middle of the handlebars.

So, I made a little hole between the handlebars and places the small white stone there. I put some mana into the white stone, and it began to glow. Pouring much of my mana into the stone it still didn’t do anything.

Opening the door of my shack I sat on the invention and drove carefully out of my shack. I was driving slowly because I was a little scared I would fall, there are no legs on the ground only two wheels.

My father looked proud at me when he saw me riding my own made invention. My sister directly run at me.

“I want to ride it too. Can I ride it to?” she directly bagged.

I didn’t listen to her because I was to focused on riding my invention.

“Arora just wait until your brother is done first, okay?” My father said to Arora.

I ride my invention to my father.

“Dad, can you pour some mana into the white stone please? You have more mana then that I do.” I asked him with a smile on my face.

He moves over to my invention and looked at the white stone before looking at me.

“How did you get your hands on this mana stone?” He looks at me while pointing at the white stone.

I looked away avoiding my father’s eyes.

“Uhm w-well.” I scratch the back of my head. “I found it somewhere.” I nodded too him to try to make him believe me.

He looks sceptical at me with his eyes narrowed.

“Are you sure?” He asked slow, looking me in my eyes.

“Yes, I am sure.” I said while looking at him.

“It was lying in my shack where I found it so, I thought maybe I can use it.” I made up a lie while trying to sound convincing.

He laid his hand on the white stone and begins to pour mana into it. His hand glowing as he pours his mana over to the stone.

He keeps looking at me with his eyes narrowed looking if I lied.

I stand there uncomfortable doing my best not to make it obvious I lied to him. My hand began to sweat the more mana he poured into the white mana stone.

“So, what is your idea to use this mana stone on your invention?” My father broke the uncomfortable silence.

I look at the stone and begin to explain it. “With this mana stone here, I will be able to drive it without my own power, so put it in short it will almost drive itself.” I explained to him while pointing at the lines that will transport the mana.

He listened carefully to my explanation while looking at all the cables I made inside the invention.

“Now the most important thing, how will you name this invention of yours?” He asked while looking at me.

How will I name it? That is a good question, I have not been giving it much thought.

“I don’t know what to call it yet. There are no names that come to mind when I think about it.”

On that moment I begin to think about what I should call it. My father was helping me with thinking about a name for it.

“What about something that it does? So, what does your invention do?” My father suggested.

“It drives people around if they sit on top of it and use the paddles.” I answer to my father, acting like it was obvious and he should have known.

“Then it transports people, right?” He asked confirming, almost giving me the name.

“Yes. It transports people if you think about it like that, so what about it?” Then it came to me. A name for my invention.

“The transporter.” I say happy by finding a name for it.

“From this moment on my first invention will be called the Transpo-“

“Matthew!” I heard my mother scream while running outside. Her eyes are wide open checking everything she could see; she also looked the whole time back even while talking to my father.

“Honey, calm down. What is happening?” My father tries to calm her down.

“I-It’s time, we need to go.” She catches her breath.

She sounds scared, scared like any moment something terrible could happen.

“We don’t have time! We need to go now!”
