“Can you promise it?” I automatically said without thinking about it.
The expression of my mother changed, it changed from a warm soft reassuring smile to an expression that can’t be explained. The only thing I could get out of her expression, was that she was thinking about it, she was thinking about my question.
After some time she replied to me. “Orvar, to be really honest, I don’t know either if everything will be okay. So how much I want to promise it to you, I just can’t promise it because I’m not sure.” She looked down at the ground after replying to me. Her voice was soft, it sounded like she doesn’t want something to happen with us.
It also felt like she wants us to stay out of it, so that we don’t get involved with her business.
I furrowed my brows while clenching my fist the moment my mother turned around.
This isn’t only her business but also ours, we are also involved in it so I will not let her alone in this.
When we slowly continued to move, everyone stayed silent, no one dared to say anything.
I mostly looked around while we are walking, looking at the animals and mana spirits.
We have walked already fifteen kilometres from our home. This travel is so long.
It is also so boring, no one says something or do I have something to do. It’s just walking and looking around.
“Dad?” After half a day Arora speaks up.
“Where is Snickers? He is not with us, so I was wondering where he is.” She looked around with the thought that she could maybe spot him.
Our father was thinking for a moment looking up at the clear blue sky. Arora keeps looking at him waiting for his answer.
“He will come later…” He fell silent for a moment. “Yeah he comes later you will see him appear.” He nodded at Arora.
“Okay.” She said slow and sceptical.
This is my call now I can say it!
“My feet hurt.” I complained.
Yes I did it finally, they can’t just ignore me now.
“Sorry Orvar but we need to keep walking we can’t stop now.” My mother shrugged.
My mouth dropped open when she said that. I have waited all this time to say it and this is the reply I get.
“But Arora can you explain to me how it is with the continent and the kingdoms?” I asked her sounding bored.
“Of course I can explain that to my little brother.” She teased me with a big smirk on her face.
I just rolled my eyes at her tease; she knows it annoys me if she says that.
“Just tell it already.” I lost my patience.
“Okay calm down.” She chuckled while patting my shoulder.
“So to begin with, what is our kingdom called?”
“Isn’t it Nerada?” I answered her with almost no thought to it.
She smiled while nodding. “That is correct, so you do remember the thinks you read.” She teases me again.
I ignored her and just keep on waking holding on the pace of our parents.
“Secondly” She holds up two fingers. “Do you know how our continent is divided?”
I think about it and answer really quick. “No, not really.”
She sighs and let her arms hang down like they are dead. “I need to explain it too, anyway.” She stood up right ready to explain it to me.
“First, we have our continent. You know the giant piece of land called Infinita. So is our continent called, I hope you already knew that.”
“Yes I already knew that. I’m not stupid.” I defended myself.
“Are you sure?” She asked me with a dark grin on her face.
Annoyed by all the teasing I snapped. I raised my voice. “Arora! Stop with annoying me this much!”
She stayed silent for a moment. “Sorry, Orvar I thought you enjoyed it too. But I will stop with the teasing.” She highlighted the teasing.
“So the continent and its divisions. What are they?” I said still a bit angry.
It sounded more like I was commanding her but it doesn’t care me she just needed to stop.
“Okay really fast. You have the continent Infinita, then the four kingdoms, then the city’s and as last the towns.” She said fast.
I looked up at her. “And now explained please.”
There is a smile on her face again. “So you can apologize.”
I looked at her with a sharp gaze, my gaze said enough. The moment she was my gaze the smile on her face directly faded away and she also stayed silent for a bit.
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“She quickly looked away and continued to explain.
“So I will begin from the beginning. First there is Infinita that is our continent with the four kingdoms. The kingdoms are Nerada that is where we live and the home place of the human race, then there is Lórien that is the kingdom and home place of the elves, also there is Saguri that is the kingdom of the dwarfs and lastly we have the kingdom of the fauns and that is called the silent woods.”
She looked at me while she is walking next to me after explaining the kingdoms of the different races.
“Do you understand what I just said? It is hard to remember if you hear it for the first time.” She asked me to check if I have listened to her.
I looked at her, looking her in the eyes and nodded while replying to her. “I understood what you have explained to me.”
Arora nodded and being pleased with my answer before she continued.
“So the next part is I think the hardest and that is the capitals.” She paused for a moment thinking about it herself.
“I will begin with the capital of Infinita and you already know that is the Luma falls. The luma falls the biggest city in all of Infinita, it is located at the point where the four kingdoms meet. In the middle of the giant city there is a castle and in that castle, the four leaders come once a year and talk about some boring stuff.”
“The stuff where they talk about is definitely not boring.” Our father mixed in our conversation. “They talk there about politics and they hold the relationships with the other kingdoms there so, without it the kingdoms wouldn’t be able to live together.” Our father explained without looking back to us.
“Sure.” Arora said after our father stopped talking.
“But they say that the Luma falls are beautiful. It is an almost floating city; the city is hold into the air by four giant chains and every one of those chains represent a kingdom.” She explained whole making some movements with her hand how it should been looking.
“And not only that but around the Luma falls are also you can already guess it. There are giant waterfalls falling down passed the giant city.”
“But is the Luma falls then located inside water or is the water under it?” I asked a bit confused.
“No.” She just simply answered. “There are some beautiful waterfalls that run down next to the city but” She pointed out. “The water falls down under the city. Just a little bit to the west of the city is the Pellago river and it’s the biggest in the continent and it transports the water into the sea.”
She take a short break before asking me if I understood. “Did you understand?”
I nodded at her.
She holds up one finger. “That river also separates the kingdom of Nerada and Saguri. Those are the human and dwarven kingdom’s.”
She continues to explain it to me. “Then we have the capitals of all the kingdoms. The capital of Nerada is Alissar. Alissar is located on a big field full of purple and white flowers with in the middle the castle. The name of the capital is descend from the Alissar princess flower. So the thing in Alissar castle is that the princess is the most important and not the king of queen, that is because of the flowers surrounding it.”
“Then we have the capital of Saguri aka the dwarven kingdom. A very important thing to say first it that the dwarfs live mostly underground so that means that the capital is also located underground. The capital is called Night grotto, and it is beautiful. It is a big city with in the walls of the city the castle and on the ceiling there are so many glow stones.” She totally drifted off into her own thoughts.
I wanted to ask her what glow stones are but my father was faster to explain it to me.
“Orvar, glow stones are black stones that are only found in Saguri and when it is dark outside the stones slowly dim their lights and when it is light outside, so when it is day they glow a beautiful green light from them.” He explained to me and this time he did look too me.
I turned back to Arora when my father turned back to look in front of us.
“Arora?” I said trying to get her attention but she was too far into her own thoughts.
So the only possibility for me was to gently push her so I did that. “Arora!” I called her out while I gave her a gently push.
“Y-Yes? What’s wrong?” She asked me directly.
“you was too far into your own thoughts so that was the only way to reach you.” I casually said to her.
“And you where explaining the capitals to me you remember?” I added to my previous sentence.
She nodded. “Of course I don’t forget that so fast. But where were we?”
I looked up thinking about the names of the kingdoms that she didn’t mentioned yet.
“You still need to explain,” I thought for a moment. “The capital of Lórien and if I’m right the capital of the Silent woods.” I looked down at her.
“Okay so with which capital do you want to start? Do you want to start with Lórien or the Silent woods?” She asked me.
Which one should I pick to begin with? I already have been to Lórien but I don’t know anything yet from the silent woods. So if I ask about the silent woods first I will know thing from a subject where I don’t know anything from. On the other hand if I ask about Lórien I will get to know more.
“Lórien good choice.” Arora said to me.
I looked confused at her. “I didn’t say anything yet.”
“I know but it took you too long to decide and I didn’t wanted to wait any longer, so I made the decision for you.” She said with a smile on her face.
I sighed. “Fine Lórien it is then.”
She begins explaining again. “You have already been there so you know some things already like, the royal family and that it is the home land of the elf’s. The capital is called Tirion with Tirion castle as the home of the royal family.”
She thought for a moment and asked. “Is there something you don’t know yet about Tirion?”
I think for a little bit and then reply to her question. “No there isn’t something I don’t know, at this moment then and if I think about something I will just asked it.”
She nodded. “Feel free to asked something at me if you have a question.”
I nodded. “And what about the Silent woods?”
“Aah the Silent woods, uhm what do I know about it. Uhm It’s a big forest… The whole kingdom of the fauns is just a forest but, it is an enchanted forest. Almost no one know something about it, it is really strange.”
“And why does no one know something about it?” I asked curious.
Arora continued. “That is because Fauns always have been like these mythical creatures. Almost no one really have seen them, we only know that they exist and that is almost everything we know about them.”
“The spell that is cast on the forest is a rare spell and it makes you hallucinate and forget everything that happened from the moment you step into the forest. The fauns also actually live very deep into the forest, because of that the forest is very clear, you can look into the forest like you can look through a glass of water but you won’t see any living creatures.”
Arora paused for a moment thinking about something.
“I think I know why the capital is called why it is called.”
“What Is it called then?” I asked jumping dying to know.
Arora chuckled. “The capital of the Silent woods is called…” She waited on purpose.
“It’s called. Tarok!”
“Okay and what is so special about that name?” I asked her.
“Tarok if I’m right it is from a frog that saved the fauns hundreds of years ago. Then they called there capital like that.”
I nodded at Arora understanding what she just said.
“What is that?” I heard my father say.
Before Arora could ask what he meant she walked against the air like a wall.
“Did you just walk against the air?” I asked holding in my laughter.
“No! It’s a wall where I walked against but it looks like the road.” She snapped.
Our father investigated the ‘wall’ a little more and after some time he spoke up.
“It looks like it is illusion magic mixed with a barrier magic. The only thing is that it doesn’t make any sense why it would be here.” He looks sceptical at the magic that blocked our path.
“Someone needs to be close to us to do this. A regular archmage isn’t capable of doing this without being close.”
Our father looked around trying to find someone, he keeps looking around before screaming.
“Assassins!”
