Interlude IV: Meeting

Interlude IV: Meeting

The day after the event that occurred between Cindy, Keith, and Elie, a short meeting was held on the fiftieth floor with the three directors and Father. Tensions were high for some, others not so much.

"So, what do we do?" Amy asked, calmly twirling her hair and spinning around in an office chair.

"We find them and kill them all, this time," Aria said, her head fuming with rage. "I knew it. I just knew it."

"Any ideas on where to find them?" Ben asked, slouched back in a chair.

"We can't," said father. "Wherever old Don is hiding, we won't be able to track him. We'll have to wait until their next move. Stay alert from now on, and be on the lookout for any new auras around the city. That's the best we can do."

"Nonsense," Aria said. "That is utter nonsense, and you know it. I shall go find and kill every single one of the damn dragons myself. My dear family, you don't have to concern yourselves with anything," she said, heading for the window. "Oh, and one more thing. This is all on you, dear Father, for not killing that man in the first place," she said as she leaped out the window. She was gone within the blink of an eye.

"Damn, we all just got here," Ben sighed. "Should we go after her? I really don't wanna deal with her right now."

"No, just let her vent," Father said. "She'll just run around like a headless chicken until she tires out," he continued as he grabbed his phone. "Hey, Shirley. I need you to do me a favor. Recall all of our assassins who are currently away. Tell them... we might be going to war again soon. Also, bring booze," he said, hanging up the phone.

"And what about Kai? You think he sold us out? I hate to admit it, but maybe Aria was right," Amy said.

You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.

"Not a chance in hell," Ben said with a smile. "Just let him be for a while. He'll be back."

"How are you so sure?" Amy asked.

"Well, for starters, I told him I'd kill him in the worst way possible if he ever betrayed us. More importantly, though." Ben paused, sitting upright in his chair. "They hurt his friend. If I learned anything about Kai over the last few months, it's that he doesn't take kindly to people who hurt his friends. So, whatever he's doing, I'll leave it up to him. Anyone got a problem with that?"

"Nope, sounds good to me."

"Same," Father said.

"Thanks for not telling Aria that part," Ben said.

"You think I wanted that extra nagging?" Father asked. "I did that for myself. I don't wanna pile up any more drama with your lovely sister. Where's Shirley with that booze, dammit."

Ben chuckled as he stared at the floor in deep thought. "This is... gonna be so damn fun," he said, his hands starting to tremble.

"You actually think it's gonna be a challenge?" Amy asked. "I could probably kill them all myself."

"You never know," Ben said.

"Well, I am looking forward to a good fight again, but there are some... issues that I'm a little worried about," Father said. "Cindy, what the fuck is up with her, guys? Is she an assassin or not?" he asked with a puzzled look.

"Just give her some time, old man. She'll come around when we need her to," Ben said without hesitation.

"Son, your confidence in your little protégés is cute and all, but I need to see something soon!" Father exclaimed. "Listen, I like the girl. She's nice. Damn good at video games too. However, she just might not be cut out for this. She's taking up space on our roster. We could've trained another assassin by now, dammit!"

"We can't just feed her to the wolves either, Daddy," Amy said. "She's one of us," she continued, staring at her father with puppy dog eyes.

“Aw, not the eyes!” Father replied in defeat. “Fine, you deal with her. Straighten her out, and fast.”

"I will. I'll get her right," Amy said confidently.

"Your bottle, sir," Shirley said, as she entered the lounge.

"About damn time," Father said, quickly snatching the bottle. I'll leave it to you then, Amy.
