Chapter 15: Wealth

Author’s note: This early episode was brought to you by Mark S.! Another gonna pop up sometime later!

Host’s note: I’m not the author, I’m simply someone hosting this story on RRL. Also, I cut a part out of the author’s note about currency values being a bit off as changes have been made by the author on previous chapters to fix the issue already.

----------------------------------------

Late a night, a shadow flickered and landed in the Jin Clan’s yard. This person was Jin Xia.

Without a sound, JIn Xia quietly entered his room. The night air outside was cool while crickets chirped ignorantly in the distant. Like this, the night quickly passed.

When the next day arrived, Tian City was in an uproar. The events that had transpired yesterday had already quickly trickled down to the residents.

“Hey, hey, did you hear? Yesterday, someone or some group had infiltrated into the three major clan’s base and massacred everyone from the upper echelon there! All the treasures were even looted, too! But strangely, all the old and young ones were spared…”

“I think that should be Jin Xia, right? I heard from an expert who was at the scene that Jin Xia has reached the Xing Profound realm and consecutively killed all four of the major clan masters during the Jin family competition!”

“Impossible! There is not even a single Spiritual Dan practitioner in Tian City, so how could a Xing Profound practitioner suddenly show up? And for that kind of person to be a sixteen years old youth, at that…”

The public was in frantic excitement and fear over the news of what happened yesterday at the Jin Clan. Some were sceptical, some had begun to set Jin Xia as their idol, and some remained indifferent.

< Jin Clan’s Yard >

When daylight broke out in the sky, Jin Xia had asked Xie Mei to immediately assemble all the servants in the Jin yard.

After taking care of all the executive members of the three major clans and draining them dry, Jin Xia had left the innocent members of the clans alone. After all, they were merely at the bottom of the clan ladder, thus their opinions and actions are very limited. Most likely, the plans that were being hatched were done without those clansmen even knowing, with only those at the very top of the clan in on the secret.

Thus, to avoid unnecessary deaths, Jin Xia had made sure to only eliminate the ones at the top. He was not afraid that those who were left alive would try to take revenge. Because even if they did, by the time they had enough strength to do so, he and his clan would have already reached a height they could only dream to border!

More so, on the road of cultivation, one cannot make peace with everyone. There is bound to be a few enemies, with even a couple thousands being quite normal.

Only those with true power could enjoy the reverence and envy of others. And only those with great strength could receive such attention.

As servants appeared one after another, they saw a handsome youth clad in pure white chang pao standing peacefully in yard. Seeing Jin Xia, many of the servants revealed faces of reverent with a bit of fear lurking in their eyes.

By now, all the servants who was not present at yesterday’s family competition had already heard about this young master’s tyrannical might. Jin Xia’s position in their heart was no different than the patriarch of the clan.

Once all the servants were assembled, they all stood in a neat row of ten by ten. A total of fifty servants of the Jin Clan had gathered.

Jin Xia gave a faint smile as he looked over the group of servants. Then, he spoke out in a clear voice,

“Everyone, please stretch out both of your palms together, facing upwards, in front of you.”

The servants were startled by the sudden command, but nonetheless they hastily followed and stretched out their palms.

With a flick of his wrist, numerous beams of small black lights flew out from Jin Xia’s hand and landed onto the open palms of each servant. When the minions looked down, they saw that it was a brown bag with many odd symbols on it.

The servants were shocked. Looking at the patterns, this was actually a priceless Space bag…

Once each person received a Space bag, Jin Xia continued talking,

“Inside each small bag are several gold coins I converted from crystal coins. I want you to hand out 500 Gold coins to each of the households in Tian City. This will count as a ceremonial gift to people in celebration for our Jin Clan’s ascension as the number one clan in this city.”

The Xia servants suddenly felt dizzy when they looked at the brown bag in their hand.

Five hundred Gold coin was equivalent to 500,000 Silver coins! This was enough to feed a family of five for at least three years!

One must know that for the average income per year for a typical person was at most 200 Gold coins. Only those who were wealthy would possess such amount as 500 Gold coins so easily.

And there is about thirty thousand people living in Tian City, with a total of 8,023 households. To give 500 gold coins each to this large amount of people, just how exactly did their young master become so filthy rich?

Even the Jin Clan did not possess that great of a wealth to give such a luxurious amount of money out so casually.

But having so much money in their hands, some of the servants were even going red in the eyes thinking about the great sum of Gold Coins that was stored inside the bag on their hands, perhaps it would even be enough for them to exchange for several Crystal Coins…

“If you all complete this well, you may head to the Jin Treasury Hall and collect 3 crystal coins as a reward for your time at my Jin Clan. But if you decide to steal all the money inside those bags, or fail to complete your task…”, JIn Xia’s voice trailed off at the end as a dangerous light flashed through his eyes. “…then I’d personally chase you down and have you die a death even lower than a dog’s.”

Several servants turned rigid upon hearing Jin Xia’s words. Those who had actually planned to run off with the money quickly discarded the idea. After all, compared to having a large sum of money, if they were dead, what was the point of even having them? Their life was much more important when considering from this aspect.

Moreover, 3 Crystals Coins was already an extravagant amount of money. After all, that was basically equivalent to 3,000 gold coins!

There was no need to get greedy and risk dying at the expense getting a few extra more crystal coins. Some of the brighter servants even felt it was more appropriate to take this chance to serve their young master well. If they do good, perhaps even better benefits would await them!

Glancing over the servants one last time, Jin Xia said, “You may all go complete the task now.”

“””Yes, young master!””” A chorus of voice rang out at the same time.

The servants hastily left the yard as they went towards the city to distribute the wealth.

After taking care of the higher ups from the three major clans and looting their treasuries, Jin Xia now possessed an even greater amount of wealth. In his golden Space bag now, Jin Xia estimated there should be around five million crystal coins. But naturally, as a once almighty deity, Jin Xia did not care for such materialistic items.

Jin Xia had only took them so that he could later distribute them to his people and use the riches as means to expand the Jin Clan’s power. After all, while gods did not require such coins, the mortals of this plane definitely do.

Not long after, delightful voices began to permeate through the air. And soon, cheers and shouts could be heard clamoring in the city.

“My god! The Jin Clan is so generous this time! Five hundred Gold coins! With this amount, I won’t have to worry so much about food for quite a some time…”

“This Jin Clan is simply too awesome! To reward us such an amount…”

“””All hail the Jin Clan! All hail the Jin Clan! All hail the Jin Clan! “””

Chants and exclamations bursted out in the city as the people were joyous to receive such a huge amount of money out of the blue. Those who were still initially hesitant about the Jin Clan becoming the number one power in Tian City, instantly sided with the opposite party when they were given the money. Everyone in the city had quickly came to accept the Jin Clan after this displayed wave of generosity.

From history, it could be said that forcefully usurping a position would leave chaos in one’s wake. But if the new party were to provide some evident benefits to the people, then it would be much easier to take control.

In a way, it could even be said that Jin Xia had purchased the acceptance and loyalty of the residents of Tian City. But it didn’t matter for him. As long as he could tame the people, his Jin Clan would naturally have a firmer foothold in Tian City.

< Jin Clan’s Yard >

Throughout the day, while the servants were busy spreading his gifts in the city, Jin Xia had stayed within his own backyard. He would occasionally stroll around or sit down and enjoy a cup of freshly brewed tea. But other than those activities, Jin Xia was quite relaxed.

Frequently, though, several members of Jin Clan would come by and pay their respect to him. They would bring gifts and flatter JIn Xia with praises before leaving his yard. Naturally, Jin Xia accepted them as they were from his main family. After all, the previous host did not have much conflicts with them, given that his true enemies were the branch families.

And since yesterday, Jin Xia’s father, Liu Dan, had been busy organizing everything in the Jin Clan and cleaning up the event that happened yesterday. As the new patriarch, Liu Dan was exceedingly active, but because of his previous experiences of having to work everything out for Bao Lei, his task as the patriarch was a lot easier and was in a way, no different than when he was helping the old patriarch.

As for Jin Xia’s mother, Jia Yue Bing, she would come by regularly throughout the day to check up on Jin XIa. Even after witnessing Jin Xia’s strength, she remained indifferent and continued to care for her son’s well-being. Jin Xia was quite grateful for his mother’s kindness and had already placed her importance up high in his heart next to his father and Xie Mei.

While Jin Xia was brooding over his plans, Xie Mei entered his yard with a tray of food.

“Young master Jin Xia, I have brought your meal.”, Xie Mei respectfully said as she placed the tray down on the nearest stone table.

Lightly turning around, Jin Xia smiled when he saw that it was Xie Mei.

For the past two months, Jin Xia had made sure that no harm nor labor came to the little girl. He did not want the girl to suffer anymore, after having to put up with the previous host’s abuses.

Likewise, Xie Mei had noticed the significant change in personality of her lord for the past two months. His treatment towards her now compared to the past could be said to be the difference between the heaven and the earth!

Because of that, Xie Mei had been living a comfortable lifestyle for the past days, but due to her status as a servant, she was still somewhat feeling guilty for not doing any work. Such, were her innocent thoughts.

On the other hand, Xie Mei had come to accept the fact that her young master had indeed changed – fortunately, for the better. And she had slowly began to lower her caution towards him.

Moreover, she had already heard the news about her young master Jin Xia’s might and deeds at yesterday’s family competition. Although Xie Mei had felt shocked and disbelief that the bloody scene that she saw from yesterday was caused by her once crippled master, she still had to accept it as there were many primary accounts from people who had personally witnessed the event.

As such, Xie Mei had likewise begun to feel a bit of fear and reverence towards her lord’s strength.

Seeing that Jin Xia had smiled at her like usual, Xie Mei hastily lowered her head as her cheeks blushed a light pink.

But before she could gather up her courage to excuse herself and leave, Jin Xia’s gentle voice floated over to her ears.

“Xie Mei, after thinking about it for a while, I’ve decided to lift your status as a servant. Instead, why don’t you become a cultivator with me? For the past two months, I’ve noticed that your innate quality is quite good, so I can guarantee that your accomplishments won’t be small in the future.”
