***** Vol.5 Chap.16 Initial brainstorming *****
“Well, let’s assume that what we have seen and heard is true, what can we do about the current situation?”
“I am a doctor, not a spy.”
“I am a marine biologist, not a terrorist.” Kristin retorted.
“And I am a computer scientist, not a government agent.” Frank added.
“There. It is clear who we are not. I believe we are whom we say we are; and no one is lying here.”
The three sat dumbfounded and looked at one another for a while.
“But Elijah seems to believe in us. He gathered the three of us here and entrusted us with the mission.” Frank finally continued as he looked at Kristin and May-Ling.
“Why? I don’t know.”
“Well, what if we can send the video to the FBI and let them send a missile to Glybiana.” Kristin was the first to suggest a solution.
“This may trigger another world war as Elijah said.” Frank responded.
“It is better than sitting here as a sitting duck and waiting for them to slaughter us by releasing the designer enzyme. Who knows if we are safe here?”
“If we bomb the compound, the enzyme may still escape through the underground stream and continue to contaminate the earth.” May-Ling joined in.

“That is a good point.” Frank nodded to May-Ling.
“If you are so smart, then you can come out with a good idea.” Kristin said to May-Ling.
“I can’t think of anything right now.”
“Frank?”
“I don’t know. But I have a feeling that Elijah wanted the three of us to work together to take care of this matter.”
“Us three?” May-Ling asked? “I am just a doctor, not a trained soldier.”
“We can handle the situation.” Kristin said pounding her fists on the table.
“How? Shoot our way through?” Frank said sarcastically.
“Sounds good to me.” Kristin stood up and walked around the table with her hands holding an imaginary assault rifle pointed at the unseen enemy.
“Let’s calm down and think of a viable solution. Don’t forget the prime directive.” Frank also stood up and began pacing around the room.
“Let’s go in and kill the bastards.” Kristin suggested.
“But how?” May-Ling said.
“I don’t think that would accomplish anything.” Frank replied.
“Why?”
“They will just find another mad scientist to continue the work. This may delay their evil plan but will not discourage them from accomplishing their plan eventually. Besides, we can’t just go in and start taking out scientists one at a time.”
“It will buy some time for the government to formulate a plan of action.”
“I am not sure the governments on this earth can do much.”
“Why not?”
“First, Glybiana will deny any existence of the lab.”
“It will take months for the State Department to convince the UN to send an inspection team to Glybiana. By then, it may be too late.”
“You got a point there. What do you suggest?”
“I don’t know.”
All three fell silent deep in their own thoughts.
“I suggest that we all go to our rooms and take a nap. We could also think of other alternatives to the problem at hand. Then we can compare notes after dinner and formulate a viable plan. Frankly, I have too much excitement already for the day. I could use some time to sort things out.”
“Sounds good. It has been quite a day.”
“Same here.”
They each filed out of the conference room and went to their assigned room. However, sleep had escaped from them all. Within the span of a few hours, their lives had been turned upside down; their former lives vanished and new lives were about to begin. None know anything about their new lives and were totally unsure about their new roles.
