Chapter 1: Realization
Sechs woke up greatly surprised to be alive and for some reason crying. Coming to his senses he stopped crying and began to look around. In his surroundings were various young women looking at him wearing fur clothes.
One of them picked him up and began to move Sechs startling him greatly, in his point of view the seemingly young woman was giant. He was then given to a mature looking woman who seemed to be in her late twenties.
They all spoke a language he didn’t recognize, the mature woman held him in her arms. Sechs could feel her arms placed on his back and head, telling him that compared to her he was exceedingly small in size.
The mature woman held a worried expression and called to one of the younger ones by her side telling her some incomprehensible things. Her cause for worry was Sechs his temperature rose and if it wasn’t brought down quickly he could die.
Feeling the rise in temperature Sechs could do nothing he felt to sluggish and quickly feel asleep thinking that now in this strange place of giants he would die, there was also the possibility that this was all a hallucination before his death.
Outside a large tent of furs sat Glyn the younger brother of his tribes chief. Inside the tent his second wife was giving birth to what would be his sixth child. His first wife had birthed him two children and his second wife would now birth him her fourth, normally at this point there wouldn’t be much to worry about but during her pregnancy she had complication with her health.
It was because of these complications that she was now facing troubles with labor. But his worry didn’t increase past some minor thoughts of what could happen after all his wife was strong and he belonged to the Raging Mammoth tribe full of strong individuals who could survive in the harsh savage lands so his children should be no exception.
The tent door opened with a one of the attendants franticly calling for him to come inside to his wife and new born. Inside the tent his wife was holding the new born child with a look of worry, noticing that he moved quickly startling some of the attendants.
“Lumi what happened why do you have that pained look on your face?” Lumi, his second wife looked worried but not frantic so he assumed whatever the problem it could be handled.
“He has a high fever, I'm keeping it down but he only cried for a short while and then stopped and quickly fell asleep after developing his fever. I'm worried he won't be able to make it if we don’t give him constant care for the next month or so.” A newborns cry was considered a measure of how healthy a baby was and this one only cried slightly before stoping only to get sick and fall.
“That is worrisome but not a major problem the only thing that is, is his name according to tribe law weak newborns are given a number then if they make it to the age of ten they will chose a name for themselves.” Hearing this the Lumi sighed she new this was tribe law but she still desired to give her newborn son a name representing power and authority as the spirits might grant him strength through his name but it was not to be.
“Then for now until he reaches the age of ten he will be known as Sixth, Lumi do not worry this is only a minor setback a he will grow strong like all our tribesman.” Hearing her husband name the newborn Sixth, Lumi sighed thinking that his life would not be easy as everyone in the tribe would know he was born weak and his temporary name would be a constant reminder.
Their clan was in the savage lands a harsh environment for any to live in and being weak was practically considered a sin. In these lands beast roamed supreme while humans lived in constantly moving tribes.
Their tribe the Raging Mammoth Tribe was considered well off they had enough resources to feed all it members and warriors to fight of any beast. With her husband being the only younger brother of the chief her son’s life would be difficult but not unbearable.
Thinking once more on her husbands words she felt he was right the tribesmen always had a stronger than normal constitution, he was a powerful warrior and she was an accomplished shaman all of their other children grew to be stronger than their piers how could some early setbacks bring down her new son.
For the next couple of days Sechs went in and out of consciousness following his instincts to feed and other things necessary to his continual survival. Having spent more than a couple of hours fully awake he was now certain of one thing.
This was the reincarnation that he read about in some Hindu text. Looking at his hands and occasionally catching glimpses of his feet he knew that his body was not that of a grown man but a baby.
Remembering his life Sechs was determined to live differently, without any shackles from organizations, governments, or any such institutions he was resolved to live according to his desires freely like that wolf he watched in his final moments.
Another ten or so days passed and he figured some out some important things first was his surroundings he was inside a tent of animal furs and everyone he saw wore fur cloths.
Second his parents seemed to have some authority here as the person he believed to be his mother, a blue haired mature woman who fed him breast milk at least twice a day, was able to order various young women to do tasks for her. The third thing he learned and the most important thing for him was that his body was sickly.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
While Sechs thought of it as an inconvenience that alone would not stop him from living freely, with the help from the ancient text of the Mayans he would be able to strengthen his body. And although he had not figured out what country he was in all places had animals and when he turned five or so he could probably begin his his rise in power.
He figured with enough strength it would be impossible for anyone to stop him from doing as he pleased. For the next two months Sechs left all his bodies functions to his instincts. From the point of view of others he became a normal child after his lack of “baby qualities”.
Seeing him act this way Lumi was pleased although he had a somewhat weaker constitution Sixth was getting better. After those two months Sechs was awakened form his state of following his instincts, the reason was a creature that made no sense.
A wooly mammoth as large as a two story house. Apparently everyone was packing up their tent and preparing to move. All tents as far as he could see were being packed up and moved to the various horses to carry, only in the space around him were there three mammoths.
His mother while holding him brought him closer to the large beast and jumped to the top of it sitting cross legged while holding him. Thinking about it Sechs couldn’t make sense of anything the mammoth was not something that existed anymore it had long gone extinct and even at their prime Sechs didn’t believe that they grew this big.
The other thing was his mother. She jumped onto the back of the beast like it was the simplest thing in the world. Even at his prime Sechs would have trouble replicating what she just did. This gave him something completely new to think about, namely what world he had been born into.
From what he could remember about reincarnation and other text there was a belief the multiple worlds existed and one would be reborn into a different one every time he or she died. For now he held off on any thoughts of understanding his surroundings until he could speak or read if possible.
Once he could speak he would be able to ask all the questions he wanted and learn what he could so his new goal was to listen to every one speaking in his surroundings and learn the language.
Glyn looked at his son and smiled the mammoths they rode were savage beast that their elders raised and tamed but they still gave off a frightening aura most children would feel intimidated and those under three were sure to cry but Sixth did not and that showed he would have a strong will when he grew older.
Sechs didn’t understand the look his father gave him and thought of it as parental affection, the man he believed to be his father didn’t show up a lot and only held him twice. This was because he had an important role in the tribe and led the people from atop the mammoth to a new land and most likely had plenty of other responsibilities. Their were some children Sechs also believed were his siblings but that was something he could not confirm.
Lumi looked at the now sleeping Sixth, his health improved but not to a level where she could feel confident leaving him in the care of others. As a shaman in the tribe she had duties to accomplish and would need to occasionally leave him in the care of another.
She made up her mind to assign him a personal caretaker earlier than most usually on was assigned at the age or three or four when children wanted to run around and play with others their age. Of course this was only to the children of the higher ranked in the tribe.
Thinking this she went off with Sixth in her arms looking for someone to take in as a personal caretaker for her son. This position was coveted by many as it came with the benefits of her personal help to strengthen an individual in one way or another.
As a shaman she could greatly help others increase their strength through the use of talismans. Personal caretakers were usually chosen among friends or other touted people but Lumi liked to select from those at the lowest ranks of the tribe giving them a chance to rise up.
She quickly made her way to the low ranked section of the tribe as they marched, the difference in position was obvious she and her family rode massive mammoths, some had horses, others had large birds to carry their belonging, and those at the lowest ranks carried their belongings themselves as they walked.
Looking at those carrying their own belongings Lumi began to search through the various people. Among them she saw a young girl who should be about ten carrying everything an adult would carry herself. Satisfied with the girls strength she walked up to her and lightened the girls load by taking half of it onto her shoulders.
“Young lady would you mind bringing me to your parents.” The girl was surprised but recovered quickly.
“They passed away last Cycle so I care for myself now.” Hearing this Lumi felt bad for her but it also presented an opportunity.
“I’m sorry for your loss but I have a proposition for you, I need some one to care for my child while I attend to business. So if you would answer some of my questions I would like to take you in.”
The young girl quickly agreed and the two began a series of question and answer, having satisfied her needs Lumi took the girl onto the back of the mammoth and explained her position and the care her son would need. In exchange the girl would be given shelter, food, clothes, and the strength necessary to help and protect her Sixth.
