Vol. 2, Ch. 60 : Big Bad Evil Guy, I guess?

Rose's eyes scan over the crowd before she stops on an important looking person. He's frozen in wonder or fear as she points to him.

"Thou shalt come unto me, and hear my creed!" He shivers in spot and looks around frantically. With nobody else around, he slowly staggers towards Rose. She slowly lowers just so that she's about a foot taller than him.

Now that she's lower, I can see that the glowing is actually a glowing halo above her head. Her wings look kind of see-through, er, translucent too.

She looks upon the man with a noticeable disdain in her eyes. The man looks to be in pain now with beads of sweat dripping down his body. He looks conflicted as to revere the angel in front of him, or run and hide. Actually, is he smoking? Like his skin is literally giving off smoke.

"Where shalt I find thou leader?" She spits out with disgust filling each word. The man, now shaking with fear, points to the door behind her. Turns and commands, "I command thee to bring him upon my presence."

"I- I can't do zat," he stutters.

Rose's head turns with an audible crack; her glow flaring up behind her with reddish hues. "Why is that?"

"I don't haffe zee authority…" he trails off at the end, but his eyes shake. He probably doesn't want to be smitted. Smitted? Smitten. He doesn't want to be struck down by the powers that be, and that power is Rose.

"Hmm," she contemplates for a moment. Her right index finger twitches just a little, almost imperceptible, but the soldier doesn't notice. Rose slowly falls to the ground. "Bring me to him."

The soldier, with no other visible alternative, gives up and begins walking forward. "Wait!" Rose shouts, then points at us. "Thou shalt come as well." Without looking back, the two walk forward.

A few shared glances and we run after the two. Technically three, but Sophia's in hiding.

As we walk, Rose begins trailing behind until she matches our pace. Then, all at once, her halo dissipates into a bunch of motes of light that float into the air, and her wings fade away. She's also breathing heavily too.

"Damn it," she whispers. Hoping not to get the attention of the soldier, we all pretend that nothing happened. Sophia also drops down from the ceiling. Cooper almost yells, but Abraham clamps his hand over Cooper's mouth.

"Do I get an explanation?" I really hope I do. I'm kinda getting tired of being out of the loop on these sorts of things.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

"There's not much to say," she pants. "Dad was an overall good guy, an angel noticed that he was statistically better than most humans, they fell in love, got married, they fucked, and now I exist. Me—the half-angel, half-human."

"Uhh…" I begin, but Rose cuts me off.

"Hold on. I'm not done yet." She looks at the soldier who is still walking forward, but is no longer smoking. I wonder if he's noticed yet.

"Anyway, I have a default human form, but with a little mana expenditure, I can gain some angel characteristics. One of those being an aura that damages the undead."

"Sorry, " I shake my head, "but I have trouble imagining you as an angel when you're so…so…"

"Rough?" She offers, to which I nod. "Yeah, mom's the pure one. Dad's nice too. Whole thing is weird, and my mana pool is almost shot. Not counting the regen, I have about another minute in angel form if I want to save some mana for fighting."

"I have another question," I say.

"Shoot."

"Where's your mom? You speak kind of fondly of her, but I didn't see her at your dad's restaurant."

"Heaven. One of the Christian ones, I think? Not sure anymore, but yeah. She can only really come down every so often, but I could go and visit her. It would only be for a short time though. Can only go in angel form."

"Huh. So what's your opinion on demons?"

"Neutral. My holy aura harms them somewhat too, so I try not using it much. The succubus cashier at the grocers is too nice for me to harm her."

I have no clue who she's talking about. I'll just nod along with this.

We stop before an ornate door. Well, ornate-looking, as upon further inspection, we find that it's a bunch of gilded blankets forming a door. When the soldier turns around, Rose flashes back into her angel form.

"Zis is zee Var Room. Our leaters can pe found here." I'm expecting Hitler, Graves, and Dr. Crime. Is there anyone else? Umm, maybe more military leaders from throughout history, but who?

Opening the door, I find a chair flying straight at me.

A quick duck and roll leads to the chair smashing against the wall. We each peek our heads in to find two kind of short guys yelling at each other in a mess of languages.

One of them is obviously Hitler, but I don't recognize the other. Three more people are sitting off to the side. One with greying hair, one with a monocle, and a guy in desperate need of a shave. For now, I'll call them Gray, Mono, and Beardy.

"Vous êtes un idiot! Nous devrions envahir les terres environnantes," Not-Hitler yells at Hitler in what I think is French. Gray massages his forehead, and Mono gives a heavy sigh. Beardy sits in brooding silence.

"Vat are vu zaying? Zee Masder has told us to remain here!" Wow…it's weird to hear Hitler call someone his master.

Gray slams his fist in the table. "You imbeciles! I told you to find the Heroes' Guild; specifically, find the wolf girl!" The two shut up at his scolding.

Mono pushes up his monocle, causing a slight glare for a fraction of a second. "Not to be rude, but it appears we have guests." Everyone turns towards us. Actually…they're focused on the angelic form in front of us.

"Which of you is the leader?" Rose's voice is calm, yet the power can be heard in each corner of the room.

Gray stands up. "That would be me. May I ask what you are doing in here?"

"Come unto me, child, and hear my words. You have done a vile transgression upon the people of this city. The dead are to remain dead, but they stand among ourselves. How can this be?"

Gray, who I now presume is Graves, begins chuckling. "So what? I've been given this gift by the System. Is it not my right to use it as I will? Necromancy is proof that people like me can become Gods!" I really don't like that crazed look in his eye.

He receives muted applause from everyone else. Hitler eyes our guide and waves him away, which now leaves us just with the good Remnants and our opposition.

"Now, unlike the rest of these imbeciles, I'm not idiotic. As such, I can recognize heroes when I see them. Right, Scarlet Sword, Space Weaver, random police officer, and…Silvernight." He slowly focuses on me. "You. You're the one who messed up my plans."

His calm demeanor shatters when he throws a glass cup against the wall. An angry smile adorns his face. Uh oh. "The one who messed up…my revenge. Ha. Ha. Ha. Well…congratulations. Congratulations to you all. You're right at the heart of the beast, and guess what? I don't need to give verbal commands to Remnants."

The door slams open as soldiers file in and point their guns at us.

Man, this was a bad plan.

"Not that I don't think this army will fail, but…I don't trust you, imbeciles. So…" The blankets underneath his feet fall away, leaving a dark tunnel. Why do people just stand over trapdoors?

An echoing voice can be heard, "Crime, you're in charge!"

Mono- Crime stands up. "You heard him. Napoleon, Hitler, Genghis…attack."
