1. Convoluted Subway Line Hopping
An urban legend in Chrowall City stated that if you jumped the turnstile at the subway station on 8th Avenue in front of the Subway (the fast-food place not the fast-train place), rode the red line to the end, stayed on when the subway changed direction, then transferred over to the green line and rode that until you managed to catch the elusive express gold line, you would find yourself transported to another world.
People had, naturally, tested this myth. Multiple times, in fact, and subtracting all the people who failed to catch the gold line, the ones who succeeded in following these directions always came to the conclusion that no, there was not another world and the urban legend had probably been made just to waste people’s time.
The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
This urban legend had indeed been created to do just that, and the originator of the myth was in fact a middle schooler who had been trying his damnedest to come up with a sufficiently tedious dare.
What this middle schooler and the other poor saps who tested these instructions failed to realize was that there really was another world connected to Chrowall City, and it really could be accessed via convoluted subway line hopping.
The flaw in the urban legend lay in the simple fact that it had missed one more transfer before the hop onto the gold line, and that the person doing this hopping had to have seen someone die no more than 8 hours prior (but really, that was a minor detail).
And so, for many years the people of Chrowall lived their merry lives, unaware of the world hidden in parallel to their own. That is until four years prior to the start of our story, when one young man stumbled, purely by accident, into this string of circumstances. And the rest, as they say, is history.
