SS:E Ch. 43 - We March

The next morning, a somber silence hung over the streets of Olympus as the funeral procession for Crash made its way through the city. Thousands of people lined the streets, their heads bowed in respect for the fallen hero. The citizens of Olympus and the outer settlements had come together to honor not only Crash but all those who had lost their lives in the fight against Kyrak and the Corruptors.

At the head of the procession walked Calvin, his face a mask of grief and determination. Beside him strode Amy, her hand tightly clasped in his, offering silent support. Freya padded along next to them, her ears drooping and her tail hanging low. The rest of the Council followed close behind, their expressions grim.

Behind them came a hover platform bearing Crash's body, draped in a flag emblazoned with the symbol of Olympus. His armor, battered and scarred from countless battles, rested atop the flag. Flowers and tokens of remembrance from the people of Olympus surrounded his body.

As the procession wound its way through the city, the sound of muffled sobs and quiet weeping filled the air. Many of the onlookers held candles or flowers, which they laid on the ground as the procession passed. The flickering light of the candles cast a soft glow over the somber scene.

The procession finally arrived at the center of the city, where a large memorial had been erected to honor the fallen. The memorial was a towering structure of gleaming metal and polished stone, inscribed with the names of all those who had given their lives in defense of Olympus and its people. At the base of the memorial, a eternal flame burned, a symbol of the enduring spirit of those who had sacrificed everything.

Calvin stepped forward and placed his hand on the memorial, his head bowed. "Today, we honor the memory of Crash and all those who have fallen in the fight against the system," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "Their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten. They gave their lives so that we might live, so that Olympus might endure. We will carry on their fight, until the day when Kyrak is defeated and humanity is free once more."

As Calvin spoke, the crowd listened in respectful silence. Many wept openly, while others stood stoic and resolute. Amy stepped forward and placed a hand on Calvin's shoulder, her own eyes glistening with tears.

"Crash was more than just a soldier," she said, her voice trembling. "He was a friend, a brother, a hero. He embodied the very best of what it means to be human - courage, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to justice. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him."

One by one, the other members of the Council stepped forward to pay their respects. Tank placed Crash's battered helmet on the memorial, his jaw clenched tight with emotion. Seth laid a wreath of flowers at the base of the memorial, his eyes downcast. Ian stood silent and still, his face a mask of grief.

As the funeral drew to a close, the people of Olympus and the outer settlements filed past the memorial, each paying their respects in their own way. Some left flowers or tokens of remembrance, while others simply bowed their heads in silent prayer.

Through it all, Calvin and the Council stood vigil, their faces etched with sorrow and determination. They knew that the fight against the Corruptors was far from over, that there would be more battles to come and more lives lost. But in that moment, as they stood before the memorial to the fallen, they drew strength from the knowledge that they were not alone. That the people of Olympus and the outer settlements stood with them, united in their resolve to see justice done and humanity freed from the tyranny of the Corruptors.

As the last of the mourners filed past, Calvin turned to face the crowd. "Let us never forget the sacrifices that have been made," he said, his voice ringing out across the square. "Let us honor the memory of the fallen by continuing their fight. Together, we will build a better world, a world where the strong protect the weak and where justice prevails. This is our solemn vow, our sacred duty. And we will not rest until it is done."

A murmur of agreement rippled through the crowd, a sense of unity and purpose taking hold. As the people of Olympus and the outer settlements began to disperse, returning to their homes and their duties, there was a newfound determination in their step, a glint of steel in their eyes.

The fight against Kyrak and the Corruptors would continue, and though the road ahead was long and fraught with peril, they knew that they would not falter. For the memory of Crash and all those who had fallen before him, they would press on, until victory was won and the light of hope shone once more upon the land.

Calvin stood atop the dais in the center of Olympus, his gaze sweeping over the assembled crowd. The people of the city and the outer settlements had gathered to hear his words, their faces a mix of grief, determination, and hope. The funeral for Crash and the fallen heroes had been a somber affair, but it had also served to unite the people in their resolve to fight against the Corruptors.

"People of Olympus," Calvin began, his voice ringing out across the square. "We have suffered much in our struggle against Kyrak and his minions. We have lost friends, family, and loved ones. But we have also shown the strength and resilience of the human spirit. We have come together in the face of adversity, united in our determination to build a better world."

A murmur of agreement rippled through the crowd, heads nodding in assent. Calvin paused for a moment, letting his words sink in before continuing.

"But now, the time has come to take the fight to the enemy. We cannot sit back and wait for Kyrak to strike again. We must bring the full might of Olympus to bear against him and his forces. We will not rest until he is defeated and the threat of the Corruptors is ended once and for all."

The crowd erupted in cheers, their voices rising in a chorus of support. Calvin raised his hand, calling for silence.

"I know that many of you have suffered greatly in this war. I know that the road ahead will be long and difficult. But I also know that together, we can overcome any obstacle. We are the people of Olympus, and we will not be broken."

Calvin's eyes blazed with a fierce determination as he looked out over the sea of faces before him. "In the coming days, we will gather our forces and march on what we believe to be a concentration of Kyrak's forces. We will bring the full might of our armies to bear against him. And we will not stop until he is defeated and the light of hope shines once more upon the land."

The crowd roared its approval, their voices rising in a deafening crescendo. Calvin stood tall and proud, his heart swelling with pride at the courage and resilience of his people.

"But this fight will not be won by soldiers alone," he continued. "Each and every one of you has a role to play in this struggle. Whether you are a warrior on the front lines or a farmer tending to the fields, a healer tending to the wounded or a craftsman forging weapons and armor, your contributions are vital to our success."

Calvin's gaze swept over the crowd, taking in the faces of the men, women, and children who had gathered to hear him speak. "In the days to come, we will all be called upon to make sacrifices. Some of us may be asked to give our lives in defense of what we hold dear. But know that your sacrifice will not be in vain. Know that it will not be a risk you take alone. The council will be there on the front lines, working to bring us all home. Know that you fight for a cause greater than any one of us - the cause of freedom, of justice, and of hope."

As Calvin spoke, a hush fell over the crowd, the weight of his words settling upon them like a mantle. They knew that the road ahead would be difficult, that there would be more battles to fight and more lives lost. But they also knew that they were not alone, that they stood together as one people, united in their resolve to see justice done.

"And so, my friends, I call upon you now to take up arms in defense of Olympus and all that we hold dear. I call upon you to stand with me, to fight with me, until the last of the Corruptors is driven from our lands and the light of hope shines once more upon the earth."

Calvin's voice rose to a crescendo, his words ringing out across the square with the force of a clarion call. "Together, we will forge a new future for ourselves and for generations to come. Together, we will build a world where the strong protect the weak, where justice prevails, and where the light of hope never fades. This is our solemn vow, our sacred duty. And we will not rest until it is done."

As Calvin finished speaking, the crowd erupted in a deafening roar of approval. Fists pumped the air, voices raised in a chorus of defiance and determination. The people of Olympus and the outer settlements had heard his call, and they had answered with one voice, one heart, one purpose.

Calvin stepped down from the dais, his heart pounding with a fierce pride and resolve. He knew that the battle ahead would be the greatest test of his life, that he would be called upon to lead his people through the darkest of times. But he also knew that he was not alone, that he had the strength and support of all those who stood with him.

As he made his way through the crowd, clasping hands and exchanging words of encouragement with those he passed, Calvin felt a sense of purpose and determination.

And so, as the sun began to set over the city of Olympus, casting a warm glow over the gathered throng, Calvin set his sights on the horizon, his heart filled with hope. The fight against Kyrak and the Corruptors had only just begun, but he knew that with the might of Olympus at his back, there was no force in the universe that could stand against them. They would fight, they would sacrifice, they would endure - and in the end, they would emerge victorious, a shining beacon of hope and justice in a world that had known only darkness for far too long.

Two days later, the preparations were complete. Seth's drones had moved to the outskirts of their first target, the largest concentration of energy they'd detected.

In the training yards of Olympus, the troops were gathered in formation. Hundreds of soldiers stood at attention, their armor gleaming in the sunlight. They were equipped with an array of advanced weapons - plasma rifles, arc blades, and graviton hammers. Each soldier had undergone rigorous training in the use of these powerful tools of war.

Alongside the infantry, dozens of large spider artillery drones sat in formation. These heavily armored machines were designed for long-range bombardment, their sleek black carapaces bristling with an array of cannons and launchers. The spider drones would provide heavy fire support, softening up enemy positions before the infantry moved in to engage.

Scores of smaller bots that Seth referred to as scythers were also present. These nimble, six-legged drones were roughly the size of a dog. They were meant to swarm large targets and slice at their limbs with razor-sharp blades, hoping to bring them down. The scythers would act as a vanguard, harassing and distracting the enemy while the heavier units delivered the killing blows.

Calvin and Tank moved through the ranks, assessing the troops for readiness. They checked weapons and armor, offering words of encouragement to the men and women who would soon be risking their lives in battle.

Calvin's Stormlord armor crackled with barely contained energy. The crystalline plates shimmered with an otherworldly light, and the air around him seemed to hum with power. Tank was a walking arsenal, his body bristling with an array of manifested weapons. Plasma rifles, auto-cannons, and arc blades were just a few of the armaments he had absorbed and could now call forth at will. Together, they made an imposing sight, living embodiments of the power granted by the Titanic Sparks.

As the final preparations were made, Seth worked to open the portals that would transport the army to their destination. Shimmering gateways of swirling energy flared to life, casting an eerie glow across the assembled forces.

Calvin raised his voice, addressing the troops. "Remember your training. Watch each other's backs. We're going to hit them hard and fast. Show no mercy, for you can expect none in return. Today, we strike a blow against Kyrak and the Corruptors. Today, we fight for the future of Olympus and all of humanity!"

A roar of approval went up from the gathered soldiers. They raised their weapons in salute, ready to follow their leader into the jaws of hell itself.

With a final nod to Seth, Calvin turned and strode towards the portals, Freya padding at his side. Tank, Amy and Ian fell into step beside him, the ground shaking slightly under the weight of his armored bulk. As one, the army of Olympus marched forward, disappearing into the swirling vortexes of energy.
