SS:E Ch. 37 - Jace, Kyrak and the Countdown.

Reaper moved silently through the deserted streets on the outskirts of Alderwood, his keen senses attuned to any sign of movement. The settlement felt like a ghost town, the eerie stillness broken only by the occasional rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze. The seasoned scout knew his target, Jace, couldn't have gone far.

As he approached the edge of Alderwood's domain, Reaper spotted a decrepit building, its walls crumbling and windows shattered. A flicker of movement caught his eye, and he knew he had found his quarry. With catlike grace, Reaper closed in on the building, his steps barely making a sound on the dirt-packed ground.

Jace, unaware of the impending danger, huddled in a corner of the abandoned structure, his eyes darting nervously around the room. The young man's heart raced as he contemplated his next move, desperate to evade the Olympians who sought him out.

Suddenly, the door burst open, and Reaper stepped inside, his presence filling the space with an aura of authority. Jace scrambled to his feet, his eyes wide with fear as he realized he had been cornered.

"Don't make this harder than it needs to be," Reaper warned, his voice low and steady.

Jace, in a last-ditch effort to escape, lunged for a nearby window, hoping to slip through the broken glass and into the open air beyond. However, Reaper was too quick. With a swift motion, he fired a stasis round, immobilizing Jace in an invisible grip.

The young man struggled against the unseen force, his body rigid and unresponsive. Reaper approached him, a grim expression on his face. "You're coming with me," he stated, leaving no room for argument.

With Jace secured, Reaper opened a portal back to Olympus. The scout's mind raced with questions about Jace's involvement in the recent attacks and the looming threat of Kyrak.

Upon their return to the city, Jace was immediately taken to the edge of Olympus for interrogation. Calvin, his face etched with fury, stood before the defiant young man, ready to extract the truth.

"Why did you flee?" Calvin asked, his voice steady and unwavering.

Jace remained silent, his eyes blazing with a zealous fire. Calvin pressed on, undeterred by the young man's defiance. "What do you know about Kyrak and the attacks on Alderwood?"

At the mention of Kyrak's name, Jace's demeanor shifted. A twisted smile crept across his face as he spoke, his voice filled with reverence. "Kyrak is the future," he declared. "The Ascension will cleanse this world of its imperfections, and a new reality will be born under Kyrak's rule."

Calvin's brow furrowed as he listened to Jace's words, a sense of unease growing in the pit of his stomach. He leaned in closer, his eyes locked on Jace's. "What is this Ascension you speak of?"

Jace's smile widened, a manic glint in his eyes. "The Ascension is the end of everything you know," he explained, his voice trembling with excitement. "Kyrak's forces will consume all life, absorbing its essence to fuel the transformation. The old reality will be annihilated, and in its place, a new domain will arise, one where Kyrak reigns supreme without the taint of your 'system'."

Calvin's blood ran cold at the revelation. He realized the attack on Alderwood was merely a prelude to something far more sinister. "How do we stop it?" he demanded, his voice urgent.

Jace laughed, a harsh and grating sound that echoed in the air. "You can't stop it," he taunted. "The corruption is already spreading, faster than you can imagine. Your pathetic settlements will be consumed within days, and there's nothing you can do about it."

As Jace spoke, a movement caught Calvin's eye. Virulent green tendrils began snaking across the ground towards them, their purpose clear and malevolent. Jace's eyes widened in recognition, and he cackled madly. "It's already too late," he crowed. "The Ascension has begun."

Before Calvin could react, the vines enveloped Jace, dissolving his body into a sickly green mist. The leader of Olympus barely managed to escape the insidious tendrils, his heart pounding in his chest as he realized the gravity of the situation.

It seemed that Kyrak's influence had penetrated the very heart of Olympus, claiming Jace from within the city's walls. The thought sent a chill down Calvin's spine, and he knew that time was running out.

With a heavy heart, Calvin summoned an emergency council meeting, the weight of the world resting on his shoulders. As he gazed at the faces of his trusted companions, he knew that they had to act fast. The fate of everything they held dear hung in the balance, and failure was not an option.

"We have to strike at Kyrak's forces immediately," Calvin declared, his voice filled with determination. "If we don't stop the corruption at its source, the world as we know it will be lost forever."

The council chamber buzzed with tension as Calvin relayed the chilling information he had gleaned from Jace's interrogation. The faces of his companions, once filled with the elation of their recent victories, now bore expressions of grave concern.

"Kyrak's influence has already reached Olympus," Calvin said, his voice heavy with the weight of the revelation. "Jace was consumed by the very corruption we seek to stop, and it happened right under our noses."

Amy leaned forward, her brow furrowed. "If Kyrak's forces can infiltrate our city so easily, we're all at risk. We need to act fast."

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

"Agreed," Tank chimed in, his massive frame tense with readiness. "But how do we find Kyrak? We don't even know where to start looking."

Seth, who had been quietly observing the discussion, stepped forward. "I might have something that can help," he said, his voice filled with a quiet confidence. "My drones have been gathering data on the surrounding areas, and I've been analyzing the information they've collected."

The council turned their attention to Seth as he pulled up a holographic map of the region. The map was dotted with glowing red hotspots, each one representing an area of intense activity.

"These hotspots," Seth explained, gesturing to the map, "indicate areas where there's been a significant increase in monster activity. It's possible that Kyrak's forces are concentrated in these locations."

Calvin studied the map, his mind racing with possibilities. "If we can investigate these hotspots, we might be able to find clues that could lead us to Kyrak."

"It's a start," Amy agreed, her eyes fixed on the map. "But we can't just go charging in without a plan. We need to be smart about this."

Tank cracked his knuckles, a grim smile on his face. "I say we hit them hard and fast. Take out as many of Kyrak's minions as we can and see if we can't draw the big boss out of hiding."

Ian interjected. "We need to be strategic about this. We should send out scouting parties to investigate the hotspots, gather as much information as we can, and then regroup to plan our next move."

Calvin nodded, his mind already formulating a plan. "Ian's got the right idea. We'll send out small teams to each of the hotspots. Tank, you'll lead a team to the northern region. Amy, you take the east. Marshall, you take the South and Ian, you'll head west."

The council members nodded in agreement, their faces set with determination.

"What about you, Calvin?" Amy asked, concern etched on her face.

Calvin's eyes hardened with resolve. "I'll stay here and coordinate the efforts. We need someone to keep an eye on the big picture and make sure we're not missing anything."

Seth stepped forward, his voice filled with a quiet confidence. "I'll continue to monitor the drones and analyze any new data that comes in. If there's anything out there that can help us find Kyrak, I'll find it."

The council members exchanged glances, their faces filled with a mix of determination and apprehension. They knew the task ahead of them was daunting, but they also knew that failure was not an option.

"We'll need to move quickly," Calvin said, his voice filled with urgency. "The longer we wait, the more time Kyrak has to spread his corruption. We can't let that happen."

Tank nodded, his eyes blazing with a fierce light. "We won't let it happen. We'll find Kyrak, and we'll put an end to his plans once and for all."

Amy placed a hand on Calvin's shoulder, her touch a reassuring presence. "We're with you, Calvin. No matter what happens, we'll face it together."

Calvin looked around the room, his heart swelling with pride at the sight of his companions. They had been through so much together, and he knew that they would stop at nothing to protect their world and the people they loved.

"Let's get to work," he said, his voice filled with determination. "We have a lot of ground to cover, and not a lot of time to do it."

The council members nodded in agreement, their faces set with resolve. They knew the road ahead would be difficult, but they also knew that they had the strength and the will to see it through.

As the meeting adjourned, each member of the council set about preparing for their respective missions. They gathered their gear, checked their weapons, and steeled themselves for the challenges that lay ahead.

Calvin watched them go, his heart heavy with the weight of responsibility. He knew that the fate of their world rested on their shoulders, and he was determined to do everything in his power to ensure their success.

As he turned back to the holographic map, his eyes fixed on the glowing red hotspots that dotted the landscape. Somewhere out there, Kyrak was waiting, his forces poised to strike.

With a final glance at the map, Calvin set to work, his mind already racing with plans and strategies. The hunt for Kyrak had begun, and he knew that the fate of everything they held dear hung in the balance.

Seth's workshop hummed with activity as Calvin pored over the plans and schematics scattered across the workbench. The leader of Olympus had been discussing new developments with Seth, who had been tirelessly working on enhancing their abilities and equipment.

"Take a look at this," Seth said, handing Calvin a sleek, high-tech gauntlet. The device was covered in an array of switches and vents, its surface gleaming under the workshop's bright lights. "It's the same one I let Tank absorb earlier."

Calvin turned the gauntlet over in his hands, examining its intricate design.

Seth grinned, clearly proud of his creation. "It's capable of firing concentrated beams of plasma," he explained, pointing to the various components. "The vents help regulate the heat, and the switches allow for different firing modes and intensities."

As Calvin listened to Seth's explanation, a flicker of concern crossed his face. "Will we have to remove my old gauntlet to use this one?" he asked, dreading the thought of a painful procedure.

Seth shook his head, his smile reassuring. "No need to worry about that," he said, his voice filled with confidence. "With my new abilities, I should be able to remake the gauntlet directly on your hand. I can imbue the effects of this prototype onto it seamlessly."

Calvin nodded, relief washing over him. He trusted Seth's abilities and knew that the artisan's newfound powers were a game-changer for their cause.

Without hesitation, Seth set to work. His hands moved with precision and skill, manipulating the materials and energy around Calvin's existing gauntlet. The process was mesmerizing to watch, as the old gauntlet transformed before their eyes, taking on the sleek, high-tech appearance of the prototype.

As the procedure neared completion, Calvin couldn't help but admire the craftsmanship of his new gauntlet. The range of motion was impressive, and he could feel the power thrumming beneath its surface, ready to be unleashed at a moment's notice.

Just as Calvin was about to express his gratitude to Seth, Andy appeared before them, his face devoid of emotion.

"Calvin," Andy said, his voice flat and matter-of-fact. "I have urgent news. Another settlement has gone dark."

The words hung heavy in the air, a stark reminder of the looming threat they faced. Calvin's brow furrowed, his mind already racing with the implications of this new development.

He turned to Seth, a look of determination etched on his face. "We need to act fast," he said, his voice filled with urgency.

Seth nodded, his own expression mirroring Calvin's resolve. "I'll keep working on enhancing our equipment," he said, gesturing to the various projects scattered around the workshop.

Calvin clasped Seth's shoulder, a gesture of gratitude and solidarity. "Thank you, Seth," he said, his voice filled with sincerity. "Your work is invaluable to our cause."

Thinking on the situation briefly Calvin turned back to Seth, "Alright mate, you're in charge for a bit."

"You're going out by yourself?" Seth asked, concerned.

"Nah, I'll have Freya with me. The others are out on their own missions. Hold down the fort, if any of the other groups come back early, send them my way."

With that, Calvin gathered the others, summoned Freya and opened a portal to the settlement indicated by Andy. With a long look back toward Olympus, Calvin steeled himself and they stepped through the portal.
