The Chain by Fleetwood Mac from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (Spanish Lyrics)
And that, my friends, was the end of Jeremy's short-lived command as a civilian.
All you heard from behind the entire group was one word: "Attention!"
The entire room stopped moving. No one looked around. The Canadian members instantly recognized the General's voice. He had been watching this spectacle and, while he might have been enjoying it, he was still a military officer. This was not okay.
The General had read Jeremy's contract with the United Nations. It stated that Jeremy would help and lead the way, but nowhere did it say he was in charge. If he walked away, he had to have a good reason. What he had just done took every ounce of restraint not to have the MPs grab him and throw him in a cell.
The proper way to take care of troops is not by direct orders from the top but through their commanders. When the General yelled, his second in command took over.
"Mr. McDonald, come here now," Captain Smith said.
Jeremy walked over, standing in front of him, trying to show respect despite knowing he had screwed up again.
"What the hell just happened?" Captain Smith asked.
Captain Arc's voice emerged from Jeremy's collar before he could respond.
At this point, Jeremy realized he wasn't there to help but was a pawn for two different masters. However, to save many people, he was willing to endure this.
"Captain Smith, this is Arc. We have a situation. The short version: Jeremy's music changed tempo, affecting the energy needed to power the dungeon portal. When the beats changed, so did the power level. I told Jeremy to run, not knowing what would happen with the power fluctuation."
"Arc, this is Captain Smith. What’s going on? Give us a debrief now."
"Okay, Captain. Jeremy's music changed from 90 to 110 BPM, which altered the power level for the portal. While I told Jeremy to run, I didn't know what would happen. I've never made a dungeon and can't make any more yet. We have a global update that I need to pass on. Can we discuss this in the first room of the dungeon? Bring chairs, foldable ones."
Captain Smith instructed everyone to be at ease and gather in their platoons. He called for the other captains from different groups.
Four captains were now in charge. Captain Smith was in charge of the Canadians, Jeremy, Jeff, and the captain from the Canadian unit. The other captains saluted and requested their orders.
The General, seeing Captain Smith had things under control, said sternly, "Captain Smith, will I accept another incident like this?"
Captain Smith, standing at attention, replied, "No, sir."
The General did an about-turn and left.
Captain Smith turned to Jeremy and Jeff, shouting, "I don't know what you two idiots thought you were doing, but you're not doing it anymore. We are going down there, and you are to touch nothing until told otherwise. Do you understand?"
"Yes, sir," they replied.
Captain Smith then called for Warrant Officer Zen, a tall, fit man who looked about 50, white and well-built. Jeremy recognized him as the person who had put him through basic training.
"Warrant Officer Zen, Corporal Jeff, and civilian McDonald are now your responsibility. Know where they are at all times. If anything goes wrong, you know the consequences."
Zen smiled, making Jeremy even more anxious. "Jeremy, if you mess up, we've already got the paperwork to enlist you again. This has been approved by the Prime Minister. Do you understand, Private McDonald?"
With fear in his eyes, Jeremy responded, "Yes, Warrant Officer."
Zen smiled. "Last time I saw you, you couldn't get your ranks right. Maybe there's hope for you."
Captain Smith yelled, "Attention! Jeremy, get in there. Dismissed!"
Everyone started moving. They approached a spiral staircase with large white stone steps. Jeremy, knowing how much trouble he was in, walked ahead without waiting for permission.
As they descended, they found a flat floor, flat walls, and an arched stone ceiling. Arc's laughter echoed down the hallway.
Master Corporal Thomas asked, "Why is Arc laughing?"
Corporal Jeff explained, "Arc is laughing at Jeremy. He's realizing that this could be used like a toboggan run."
Everyone stopped and looked at Jeff, asking in unison, "How do you know that?"
Arc chimed in, covering up for Jeff. "Jeremy, Jeff, and I are in a group chat."
Jeff held up his hand, showing four fingers. Without missing a beat, Jeremy said, "Four."
Jeff changed his fingers several times, and Jeremy accurately followed, confirming their connection. The group realized they had an upgrade in their tech, a valuable asset in a war zone.
They reached a stone door with unique stone hinges. Inside, it was pitch dark. Flashlights and cell phones came out. The room was empty.
Arc giggled, "After our meeting, you'll understand why there's nothing here yet. We have a solar system update, not just a planetary one. Let’s get everyone in here with chairs."
Thomas tried his radio but got no signal. He walked back to call in all clear and asked for lights, tables, and chairs to be brought down.
Someone on the radio asked, "Isn't the dungeon supposed to make that stuff for us? Why are we bringing it in?"
Another voice responded, "Shut up and do what you're told. We're already late."
Within minutes, the crew set up tables and chairs. Jeremy heard Arc’s voice in his head.
"Okay, Jeremy, are you ready to start?"
"Yeah, what do you want me to do next?"
"Sit down, shut up, and do nothing. If you have ideas, talk to me silently. This is a safety measure. I need to talk to them now."
Jeremy, used to being told to shut up and rest, grabbed a chair and a cushion, finding a corner to settle in. Arc's voice filled the room, seeming to come from everywhere.
Ark: "Hello, first, as Jeremy calls them, delvers, please pull out any recording devices and ensure they are running. This is being recorded for web use. When you're ready, we'll begin a conversation because today, I received feedback from my system outside of our planet."
The pure terror on one or two people's faces somehow put a smile on Ark's face because Jeremy was already smiling.
Ark: "So, exactly—" Ark rattled off the exact minute since Jeremy had accidentally powered up the Ark. "What I did with all that power Jeremy made, instead of channeling it into our planet and blowing us up right there, I threw it out into outer space. Now, you know how lucky you have to be for that piece of energy to hit anything. And no, it doesn't travel in a straight line; it emanates as a cone, expanding as it goes up. But even that, like light and energy, doesn't take more than a day to traverse vast distances. Well, we're in trouble because there's another planet you guys know of, eight planets in your solar system. That's kind of correct. I don't consider the asteroid belt the outer part of your solar system because there's another one, and then another one farther out, and farther out. That's one of the reasons why you guys don't have issues with anybody else coming here. You're inside of a bubble, inside of a bubble, inside of a bubble, kind of.
Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
To me, you have 30 planets, not eight. That's right, 30. There are at least two planets in the rotation that take between 2 to 5,000 years to complete one orbit around your sun. So, very, very large orbits."
"Well, isn't it lucky that one of those planets got hit by that ray?" It turned on and went through a level zero startup. And what that means is a rock with what you guys call a golf tee. That's it. There's nothing to turn it on; it's just a dead unit. When an intelligent species starts exploring other planets, you're supposed to realize what these are, turn them on, and start making habitable planets for yourselves. When it's magical, it's kind of easy. It's just there, it works. Well, when whoever made these and sent them out (and no, I don't know who made them; I don't have my old knowledge), I guess it was dumped back in the day, or something. Or maybe I never did; I don't know."
Ark kept on talking, sounding like Jeremy on sugar, and Ark knew that and was screwing with these guys hard for treating Jeremy badly.
"So, what that means is, if a planet has no life, someone has to go there and turn it on. We did it remotely. What it's doing now is scanning the planet. It has nobody there; it's creating water and air. Literally, that's all it's doing. But it's doing it so fast that it might pull itself out of orbit—or, and this is more likely, pull into orbit and speed up its rotation as it grows. They all might. You might have a really bad meteor storm for a very long time after this. And we may have to look into a defense shield for the whole planet or a way of cleaning up the inner solar system, as you call it."
The people in that room were aghast, and Ark just asked one thing:
Ark: "Should I go on?"
The general, who I guess hadn't really left within the dark spot, said, "Continue," and everybody turned to look at who said it, and then looked back to where they were looking, because, like I said, the voice was coming from all around them. No one was actually looking at a teacher or a podium or anything like that.
"Now, when a unit goes through a level zero or, AKA, a startup at the lowest level, it sends out a signal to all other ones within range—all 30 of them, even me. I just got sent back to level zero capabilities. I'm locked out of half of my stuff, if not more.
So, this is what's going to happen. We need to still do what we said we're going to do, but in a different method. There will be no live animals or anything like that. I can only create water, oxygen, hydrogen, basically level one and level zero. The difference is how many elements on the periodic table I can use.
That's what I can create. That's it. That's not all I can do." And this was said with such a little bit of a smile in the voice that the next thing you heard was Ark asking Jeremy to stand up and go to the center of the room, please, please make room for him.
Everybody moved away and moved their tables and chairs—all collapsible—and in the very middle of the room, Jeremy stood, waiting for Ark to tell him what to do.
Ark started a song but kept the pitch so low you could hear it, but you couldn't tell what it was, like you could just hear the underlying beat of it. It was just enough, just enough to get under Jeremy's skin as music, and, kind of, yeah, it worked really well. Ark was starting to understand what to do to pull Jeremy's strings and push his buttons.
Jeremy still couldn't figure out what the song was, but Ark told him, "Now, put both your hands on the ground and close your eyes, and I'm going to turn up the music a bit, and when you do that, I'm going to steal your magic, and it's going to make you feel probably tired. Everybody, keep an eye on him. If he starts bleeding out of any of his holes, we stop, but we've done this a couple of times, and it hasn't happened."
Warrant Officer Zen: "Do not do anything yet. Stop what you're doing right now. You are to tell us what you're doing before we let you do it. Do you understand? Explain what you're doing."
Ark: "You're no fun... I had planned to show everything to make this look cool. I know Jeremy would have appreciated it. Fine, I'll explain. When my technology was removed from my ability list, the only thing I can do is convert. So, let's say I'm on a dead moon, and I've got radiated material. I can convert the stone, the radioactive material. I can break it all up and move it around. I can put all the reactants in one spot and all the stone in another spot. I can then say, 'Okay, this side's safe, and this is how we make planets viable.' Someone, at one point, put all that rain below ground. Yes, it may have been there before, but then it's like, 'No, no, that's what it is, that's where it all goes,' and it's just magic. I mean, that's where it was, that's where it's supposed to be, and that's what I can do. So, how it works, I don't have what we call the Mana battery anymore, or the converting device. It's locked down, it's here, but I don't have access to it. And the only way to get access is to let the bigger system know that we're higher level, and then people will be here; they will just come because there's protocol. And me being alive and online for as long as I have, I'm one of the oldest ones. But I've also been screwed with the most and had the most copies of the human mind put in it. And I don't think they ever expected the human mind. I think that's what screwed it all up because you guys are murder hobos straightforward.
And before you ask, no, getting back into the archives has actually been locked down, and it always has been when you get to level zero. So, before you ask, no, we can't give anybody else more powers right now. But as long as we have Jeff and Jeremy, we don't have to worry because we are the luckiest sons of the b**** in the world.
We have two 100% charged magical batteries right in front of us. And the best part is, as long as they stay healthy, the magic can be recharged through the system and through the planet. So, we have a hacking device for my systems in a way. So, we just have to figure out what we want me to do, and then I can maybe move some material around. Also, I will not be opening up any more dungeons until we have control over what we can do. I don't need this to go rogue and go wild. But here's the next one: I have already downloaded the entire internet. It was only 87589 petabytes, and that was only the relevant part. I left all the cat videos for you all to have fun with. I don't think I need all that.
Now, I have all the patents, all the blueprints. Who wants an Iron Man suit? Good, because that will come. But for now, we have to find out some of the rules because I don't want to blow you up. Truthfully, that's just that. So, we're going to put Jeremy's hands on the floor, start the song, and then what's going to happen is he's going to flow juice into me, and I'm going to turn this into a proper office/area for you guys as a show of how this works."
The general: "Get on with it already."
Jeremy didn't even wait to be told by another member; he just put his hands down
nd said, "Ark, kick it."
"Like a Prayer" by Madonna began to play.
Jeremy knew that Ark didn't want to mess around too much, so it used a calming song on him. Because it was all just one beat throughout the whole song, there wasn't some pickup or drop-out. Ark was able to regulate how much energy Jeremy was giving and how much he was controlling. So, from everybody else's point of view, it looked like this:
Jeremy put his hands down on the ground, and "Like a Prayer" started playing. Jeremy's hair went from looking like it was dyed to just being light bulbs that were turned off because his hair started glowing, emitting soft light from underneath his skin in that aura/wave of energy. It was just beating the life out of everybody in the room. And the next thing Jeremy heard, along with everybody else, almost stopped his heart, if not made it skip a beat.
Ark: "Jeremy, I'm realizing something now, and I'm just going to tell you, so don't freak out. But if you were to lift your hands off while we're doing this, you could really hurt the people around you. So, don't do that. Keep your palms down. And if anybody sees your palms come up, I'm going to ask them to treat it like it's a weapon, okay? Realize the amount of juice coming out of you right now is scary amounts. I was expecting, let's say, 100 units. You've got an extra 40 zeros. I'm creating some stuff right now underground, like large-ass caverns and other places for us. This is going to be an entire system, and I'm also taking probably a square kilometer of underground material and compressing it right now to do this. So, just know, I'm going to let the song play out because I've already started a very big project. It's going to take about half an hour or so. But after the song, I probably won't need any more of your energy. I've got a lot already. But the amount that it's coming in, if I stop it off now, I'm going to burn out. I might as well just use the energy coming off you and do the work. So, wow. I have your collar set to 3%. What the hell are you humans? You're not just batteries; you're the Energizer freaking batteries of magic. This planet is going to freaking glow when we turn on the big pilot light."
The general just said, "Everybody except Jeremy and Jeff, evacuate now. Get out of here."
Just as everybody had left the room, the song ended, and the general said the following words.
Ark I'm going to have to tell this to you now you're not to do anything without asking for permission first and thank you for making this great thing for us but you just broke the rules again and under an hour
if you want to do anything you run it by us first so we can make sure we're not going to almost kill people is that understood Arc
Ark: yes sir it was said with a tone and a voice of a lady that was pure Venom
the general was about to walk out just stop dead right there and said this won't do we have to be able to work together you just about murdered on my people why do you think this is unacceptable
there is a long pause and then Ark responded with something I should have expected
Ark: General I apologize you're absolutely right you will get all it done in paperwork I'll make sure of it I'm going to ask you right now sir Jeremy and Jeff I'm going to have them turn this into a little bunker and you guys can check on them every couple hours and I'm going to get them to start just using their power to basically start using up this area's Reserve Dark Matter so I can start converting that Reserve into Magic and that will start this process and I'm hoping to get to level one cuz level one will allow me to enhance items you make AKA if this is a stone man or a small lizard or something I could put it in a box and zap it like I did with Jeremy and Jeff but not to that power I'll be allowed to there's rules small amounts only and it's for teaching purposes actually so I think that should be acceptable but I won't do anything without asking and that's what I'm going to do to try to get to level one
General also I'm just going to let you guys know this before everybody is told to either come back in or out or whatever happens here but if one of those planets on the outside of your Solar System's belt gets to level one or two or three what will happen is I'll be told and I'll be upgraded we couldn't get levelled all as a group so if I level too fast they're going to level too fast and if they level too fast there could be consequences so let's just take this slow and I apologize for having a bad day let's call it that
The general, new moment I started talking, realized this was some other part of Arc. Arc, a professional negotiator, knew the general was being handled. He didn't like it, but definitely knew how to work with it.
