Chapter 2: My best friend owns a hotel!!!
Okay... Narrie Middlecreek does not actually own a hotel, and it's not just because this is actually a bed and breakfast either, but the thing is...
Her momma Lauri like promised it to her the moment after she graduates university so... That's like the same thing as being the owner right..?
Of course, I don't know if she is going to open that "gift", because it's like a heavy responsibility to even imagine being trusted with something as big as a hotel.
BUT..! By then the ski park will be packed and this place will have waiting lists!
(Picture of leaf blowing motif around the empty lobby of bed and breakfast.)
"Hey!" I just went into the bed and breakfast and asked the young manager and my bet friend! "Why aren't your dragons lit up yet?"
"Well..." Narrie started to say as I looked out the front window and stared at those living willow dragons on either side of her entrance and tried to listen as she told me, "We're behind, but at least we have some dragon decorations up!"
"Yeah?" I looked around and smiled at those colorful frosty dragons who are flying around the windows and told Narrie, "These're actually looking pretty cool!"
"Yeah!" Narrie handed me some hot cocoa with a really bright smile and told me that, "Momma Kate is stenciling with Momma Laura all around town and even though I'm pretty sure that graffiti tagging is illegal... They told me that it was just this temporary washable snow stuff. So I guess that it's alright..?"
"But then when I told Mr Beesly that..." She opened the coat closet, took out a coat and... "He..."
She SLAMMED IT SHUT!
"He laughed at me so I'm never doing that again! I hope that next year we have a homeroom teacher is nicer though."
Wait... Her homeroom teacher. The one who she was raving about all summer long and then... Like last month she suddenly avoided the subject whenever I asked about his current excitingly funny adventure story with photographic proof!
That one?
Not good!
Narrie actually gets good grades and stuff... Like she's a good student and if she got laughed at... NO!!!
Of course I'll still be a Christmas fairy, but..! I am never going to be allowed to celebrate fairy day at that school either!
(A photo of me, Sunny, Age 11 in a fairy costume and yeah, I'm obviously not a little girl anymore.)
"I go out." Narrie broke up her words as she put on her coat and that meant that I probably shouldn't deny the fact that she is in fact upset...
But thankfully Casper is here to rescue her! "I got this dog need me let them out!"
Narrie let out Casper, then slammed the back door... Which I personally choose to think is helping to give me the motivation to find my best friend and offer her as much support that I can!
"Oh look!" I saw Narrie and Casper walking into their very own special sometimes even private island with a garden around a gazebo that I guess was haunted house a couple of years ago and that's how I got my best friend.
Well anyways..!
"I get to come here every day." Narrie told me when I stepped onto the bridge, then she pointed out some of new things and told me, "Sometimes even twice a day!"
"So..." Narrie pointed to the holiday decorated walking maze that was made out of several mosaic patterns and led up into the gazebo, "We got a little labyrinth now!"
Casper paused at the living Christmas tree that stood in front of the gazebo and Narrie told me, "I really want Momma Kate to come over here and even help me decorate this tree and maybe then we can like, all take a photograph, and like, like even maybe pretend that, that in this moment, there really is a bunch of Christmas dragons who bring everyone messages of love and hope."
Then she hopscotched up and around the inside of her gazebo and told me told, "I really think that would be really cool."
Well... I really did try hard to make sense of what Narrie was saying but all I understood was something about an undercoated Christmas tree.... So I looked away from my seemingly upset friend and then...
"Bark bark."
"Casper just ran off." Narrie told me, "I told you that he wasn't very well behaved."
"I'll take it from here Honey." Mandy, The town producer just shouted and...
WAIT! That's Felix that Casper ran to see, and that means that Uncle Randy and Aunt Missy really are here in Noel!
"And to answer your under spoken question." Mandy took a couple of throwies, which are LED's, magnets and batteries wrapped around with in tape and handed them to me, "Everyone's making these little Holiday lights at the community center."
"Yeah! Isn't it great!" Narrie exclaimed to me, "And we're going to have the sparkly throwie light up sparkly ornaments all over the dragons to protect us and..." she got close to me and Mandy and added, "There's like even a rumor that there's going to be soon some new secret dragons out this year!"
The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. Support the author by reading it there.
"Really..?" Secret dragons? Does she know that these "Secret" dragons are real live dragons who my new missing favorite role model is going to be riding!!!
"Wow!" I blurted out over the rush of the river, and then whispered, "Even if my mom wasn't like this really cool veterinarian who specializes in mystical creatures,"
And then I spoke up and proudly spoke up and said, "I could probably even dress up as a fairy like everyday when I'm a teenager here and not even be considered weird!"
"Absolutely!" Mandy smiled at me but... When I glanced at my 8 times 3 gaian watch I realized that... My life is kinda weird isn't isn't it.
(Picture of Gaian time piece.)
Yeah... You see, my mom really IS a dragon veterinarian, my aunt really IS having troubles "adjusting to civilian life", and my best friend really does seem to believe that the ghosts of her grandparents really are haunting her hotel.
"And you know something?" I smiled at my best friend and showed her the Gaian dragon band watch that Mom got me when she started taking me for flying lessons every weekend now and excitingly said, "I really like to pretend that I never have to worry about that weird stuff ever again!"
Yeah! I just have to worry about the normal stuff (for me), like how I can't just tell everyone that magic is real without them thinking that I'm crazy...
"Oh well!" I laughed when Felix licked my hand and told him, "My secret!"
"What was that?" Mandy asked like a reporter, "Secrets? Now personally I think secrets make great stories!" She swung down onto a bench and added, "That way we can share each others personal secrets in such fantastical nuanced ways that are made into fabled fantasies of our own personal inner worlds!"
Then she told me one of the things that I really wanted to know, "And we're starting the decorating contest tomorrow!"
A decorating contest? Basically, I always loved to decorate!
It started with Dad and uncle Randy, they asked if I wanted to help them decorate my own birthday cake and I was like...
YES!
(Picture of birthday cake that Sunny decorated.)
Okay, I was like 6 at the time, so like 5 years ago?
Anyways, and for Christmas we started to make our own ornaments and this super special silly dragon fairy one that Mom made with me and told me a story about a dragon ornament to remind they will always protect me...
(Bad drawing of dragon Christmas ball ornaments.)
"And... What I'm trying to tell you two is a secret!" Mandy stared at us and then whispered, "We're going to be starting a new story magazine next month that has stories and drawings created by kids for kids of all ages."
Decorating. Art. Sharing "made up" stories too??? I mean... Maybe I can actually talk about fairies and magic and dragons in a safe way!
That's what uncle Randy does.
That and well...
He also told me how he's always liked to talk to animals in their own chirpy language, so he started tp draw pictures of them and, well... Now they're even talking about making a cartoon of his comic books?!?
SUPERSTAR!!!
"Hey Sunny?" Mandy looked directly at me, "I've seen some drawings that Randy says is from, "Someone special"... Would you happen to know who that is?"
I looked at Felix.
I love Felix, Felix knows exactly what to do as he asked me to pick him up and helped me tell Mandy that..!
"I really really want to be in your new magazine and write comics like uncle Randy and then maybe I can be like a rising superstar in middle school next year."
"Ha ha ha." Mandy laughed as she stretched her legs and told me, "Well, I will try see you later then."
