Chapter 95 - Stark Contrast

FALYN ELWAY’S P.O.V

The beach was a stark contrast to the intense arena where I had just battled the elven archer. As Selina and I walked along the shoreline, the cool breeze from the sea provided a refreshing escape from the heat of competition. The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm, golden hue across the landscape.

The beach stretched out for miles, with soft, powdery sand that felt like silk beneath our feet. The sound of waves crashing against the shore was a soothing rhythm, and the briny scent of the ocean filled the air. Seagulls circled overhead, their calls merging with the distant laughter of other beachgoers.

Selina, always full of energy and joy, kicked off her sandals and began to dance in the sand. Her graceful movements mirrored the ebb and flow of the waves, and her laughter tinkled like wind chimes in the breeze. Her long, auburn hair cascaded around her as she twirled and spun, a true embodiment of the beach's beauty and freedom.

I watched her with a mix of awe and admiration, captivated by the way she moved. She beckoned me to join her, and I couldn't resist her infectious enthusiasm. I kicked off my own shoes and started dancing with her, feeling the soft sand between my toes.

As we danced, the sun dipped lower on the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. The water sparkled with a golden sheen, and the entire scene felt like a dream. We danced to the rhythm of the waves, our laughter filling the beach.

We wove patterns in the sand with our feet, creating intricate designs that would be washed away by the incoming tide. It was a reminder of the impermanence of moments, but also the beauty in cherishing them while they lasted.

The sun's descent toward the horizon painted the sky in ever-deepening shades of orange and pink. The beach, with its soft, powdery sand, seemed to glow under the warm, golden light of the setting sun. The rhythm of waves crashing against the shore created a soothing melody that echoed through the air, further enhancing the tranquil atmosphere.

Seagulls continued to circle overhead, their calls blending with the distant laughter of beachgoers, and a sense of shared happiness filled the air. It was a scene of pure serenity and joy, contrasting starkly with the intensity of the arena.

And then, on the horizon, we spotted a distant carnival pier. Its vibrant lights had come to life as the day faded into evening, creating a kaleidoscope of colors against the twilight sky. The carnival pier seemed like a world of its own.

After a while, we took a break and sat down near the water's edge. The waves lapped at our feet, and we watched the sun sink lower, painting the sky in a fiery display of colors. The horizon seemed to stretch on forever, and it was as if time itself had slowed down.

I had never liked the beach; in fact, I hated it. But as I gazed at Selina and the giant grin on her face, something about it felt surreal.

The way her face basked in the warm, soft light of the setting sun made her feel like someone I had known for a long time, someone who had always been a part of my life.

She stood up and grabbed my hand, pulling me toward the pier with a light laugh.

My body jolted forward, and as it did, a sense of déjà vu invaded me, along with a distant memory. It was faint but clear. Crimson stained hands and the sound of waves.

ZEPHRYUS ELWAY’S P.O.V

As I soared through the sky on the back of my faithful griffin companion, Vael, the world unfolded beneath me in breathtaking splendor. The wind rushed past, tugging at my clothes and tousling my hair, as I gazed down at the ever-changing tapestry of the land below.

The coastline extended far into the distance, the sandy shores kissed by the gentle caress of the azure sea. Sunlight danced on the water's surface, creating a dazzling mosaic of shimmering diamonds. Seagulls wheeled and cried in the sky, their white wings catching the golden light, and I felt an exhilarating sense of freedom that only flying could offer.

Vael dipped and maneuvered through the clouds, eventually granting me a clear view of the final rounds arena. The colosseum stood below, vast and imposing, its emptiness amplifying its grandeur. It loomed even larger without the clamor of spectators, the seats unoccupied and the battleground silent, making it seem like an ancient, sacred monument to the battles that had taken place within its walls.

Vael descended gracefully, and I dismounted, landing in the center of the colosseum. I took a moment to soak in the memories that washed over me as I stood there, surrounded by the silent echoes of battles past.

The arena's stone ground, now undisturbed, were the same grounds where I had faced formidable opponents, where the clash of steel and the roar of the crowd had once filled the air. I closed my eyes and let my mind drift back to those intense moments.

I remembered the weight of my sword in my hand, the adrenaline surging through my veins as I circled my opponents, calculating every move. The deafening cheers of the crowd, their excitement and anticipation, fueled my determination.

I recalled the faces of those I had fought – skilled warriors, each with their unique strengths and strategies. Some had been adversaries, fierce and unyielding, while others had become respected allies in the heat of battle.

The memories flowed like a river, and I could almost hear the clash of swords, the thunder of applause, and the cries of victory.

I opened my eyes, feeling a sense of nostalgia and gratitude for the experiences that had shaped me. The colosseum may now be empty, but its walls held the echoes of our triumphs and challenges, a testament to the enduring spirit of those who had faced the arena's trials.

As I stood in the middle of the colosseum, I whispered a silent thanks to the memories and the lessons learned within these hallowed grounds. It was a reminder of the journey that had brought me to this moment, and a reflection on the person I had become.

"Vael, it's weird how the human mind works, isn't it?" I said.

"You two-legged beings have always amused me and aroused my curiosity," Vael replied.

I laughed, "I hated my upbringing. At moments, I would despise myself due to my lineage, but now that I'm older and the world is in the situation it is in, I am nothing but thankful for it."

She chuckled. "I think that's just maturity."
