Chapter 63 - Showing Pedals

"Falyn Elway, is it? It's amazing to finally meet you," he said with a soft elegance that felt genuine.

"Yes, and who are you, if I may ask?" I inquired.

"I am the headmaster of this academy. I was looking over the exams in the shadows and you piqued my interest. Your kin is Myla Elway, correct?" he asked.

I nodded. "Yes, she is."

"Hm. I assumed so. I have a question, Falyn. These tests are in place to exhibit the full extent of one's abilities so we know how to rank individual students. So my question is, why did you hold back?" he asked.

I felt weirded out by this man's silent movements, but I couldn't help but wonder how he achieved such a state of mana usage. I couldn't sense his mana core, which spoke for his power, and I could only assume that it was achieved with great strength. "Holding back was warranted. If I didn't, someone would've gotten severely hurt, and by the protocols the school took during the tests, I could tell you did not want that to happen. So I simply did just enough so I could pass," I explained.

"So what you're saying is that you, at your age, need to hold back your power so you do not in turn hurt your peers? That's quite arrogant, don't you think?" he said, his smile never fading.

"It's not arrogant if what I say is the honest truth," I replied.

"And you truly believe in your strength?" he asked.

"I do."

"Well, then I have no other choice," he said as he tossed me a medallion. "Witnessing you pass all the tests with my own eyes without even using your full power, there is nothing to consider. You deserve to be here one hundred percent."

I observed the medallion and asked, "What is this?"

"The medallion is your room key. It has your room number carved onto it. Your school uniform is in your room as well. If you're ready, you can get settled in tonight and enjoy what the academy has to offer before the new school year starts completely."

"Thank you, but what about Hanz and Tasha? Will they be accepted as well?" I inquired.

"They'll have to wait for their letters like everyone else, but for your peace of mind, they will both be accepted," he reassured me.

"If you don't have any more questions, then I will be departing," he said.

"Wait," I called, stopping him. "If I was going to make it into the school anyway, why let me know now? Why not just let me wait like the others?"

He looked me in the eyes, and for the first time, I truly studied his features. His eyes were emerald green, and his hair was pure white, like the snow. "I did this so you were aware. I wanted you to know that I knew you were holding back, just so you wouldn't be confused when your classes started," he explained.

"Confused about what?" I asked.

"You'll see when classes start, and I'm sure you'll thank me if I haven't misjudged your character," he said before he left. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I'd get settled in as soon as possible. You know, claim your side of the room before your roommate arrives."

"Roommate? Who is it?" I asked, genuinely curious.

His figure disappeared into thin air, but his voice echoed, "That's a surprise."

When he was gone, I was left with a medallion that read, Building LQ-E Room 457

I didn't really have anything I needed to move in, and I kept everything I truly needed in my dimensional ring. If I wanted something, the campus had stores for all sorts of different things, so they most likely had it.

In the end, I had no reason at all not to move in now. It didn't take me long to decide to look for a school map to find Building LQ-E.

Eventually, I found it. The building was four stories high, and my room was on the fourth floor. It took a little bit of walking to find room 457, but I eventually found it and placed the medallion on the door. The door made a series of unlocking noises, and it opened on its own.

The room was spacious, with two queen-sized beds, two desks with a lamp each, and a couch along with a coffee table. Turning to my left, I saw two closets and the bathroom. The bathroom had two sinks, a large shower, and a toilet.

The room also had a balcony. Stepping out of the glass-paneled doors, I saw a beautiful view of the school from the high view, and as I gazed, I took in the cool summer breeze that complemented the setting sun.

I could get used to this.

I walked back into the room and just claimed a bed. I didn't care as they looked the same. I looked in my desk drawer and pulled out my future uniform.

The entire thing was navy blue, and there was nothing special about it. It just looked like basic formal attire but with a fantasy world spin.

Sitting down at my desk, I emptied my spatial ring. A sack of coins, a couple of beast shards, the stone piece I had kept from the golem, and the communication bracelet Selina gave me appeared on my desk.

I emptied the sack of coins and knew I had more money than a kid my age could dream of. Risking your life pays.

I figured I should go out in a bit and buy some notebooks and writing utensils, to at least have the basis of what I will be needing when class starts.

Before this, I decided to take a shower. It had been a long day of tests, and I believed I should get myself cleaned up first.

After my steaming hot shower, I put my uniform on and was about to head out when I heard the sound of ringing.

It couldn't be, I thought.

I turned around and saw the communication bracelet flashing, signifying that someone was trying to contact me. That she was trying to contact me.

I quickly picked up and said, "Hello."

A few seconds of silence followed my words before she spoke.

"Fal. It's been a while, hasn't it?" Her voice sounded more mature, almost like an entirely different person. "Are you on campus?"

"I am."

"Meet me at the main courtyard's bakery in twenty minutes. I'll be waiting for you."

The bracelet stopped glowing, signifying that the call had ended. I stood there shocked. So after all this time, the bracelet worked, but she just didn't contact me.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't curious as to why. Selina and I were close, or at least, I thought so.

Well, there's no point in worrying about it now. I can just ask her in person.

I put all the items I left on the desk back into my spatial ring, got dressed, and headed out the door immediately.
