Chapter 1: Green Green Hills of Home
Act 3: I Wanna Fly High
A few days later, Sonic dashes through the woods as he carries a straw doll that looks like Tails. He dodges some trees and runs up to Sally, who's next to a pond.
Sonic: Done, and done! See? I'm ready to get out there!
Sally: Look at the doll, Sonic.
He looks at the broken Tails doll, which now has a frown.
Sonic: He'll heal up.
Sally: It has a broken neck.
He holds up the doll's head.
Sonic: The real Tails is way tougher than this thing!
Sally: What if you're not saving Tails? I'd be a lot happier if you could save the average person.
Sonic: Can't save 'em at all if you keep me here! Can't I get the other Emeralds before learning this stuff?
Sally: … You're right. Beating Robotnik is more important. Let's send you off.
Sonic: Finally! Hey! Wanna be carried back?
She looks at the Tails doll.
Sally: I think I'll walk there, thanks.
The two walk together.
Sonic: What's with you and walking? Don't you know you can get more done when you run everywhere?
Sally: I'm not trying to save time, Sonic. I'm trying to do things right.
Sonic: You can do something well quickly.
Sally: But, can you appreciate doing it as much?
Sonic: Sure you can. Just, faster.
Sally: Sometimes, you need to stop, smell the roses, and think about what you're doing.
Sonic dashes to a rose, picks it, runs back to Sally, and sniffs the rose.
Sonic: Smells like a flower to me.
Sally: Heh... You know the power that the Emeralds gave king Mindor?
Sonic: Who doesn't?
Sally: What would you do with that power?
Sonic: Kick some robutt! What else?
Sally: Would you kill Robotnik?
Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.
Sonic: Huh? Sal, I'm the hero! Heroes don't kill people.
Sally: Then, how would you stop him?
Sonic: Don't know. Guess I'll get there when I get there.
Sally: Sonic, if we get the rest of the Emeralds, this could be the most important question there is. Please, think about it a little more?
Sonic: … If it's that important to you, I'll come up with something.
Sally: Thank you.
He looks at her for a moment.
Sonic: So, what should my reward be for getting this next Emerald?
Sally: Your freedom isn't enough?
Sonic: I'd like something a little more personal. Something sweet.
Sally: Something from me?
Sonic: Maybe.
Sally: I might just hug you, then.
Sonic: What if I get them all?
Sally: We'll see...
He almost reaches for her hand when they come up to the house in the woods, where the others are doing their own things.
Bun: What did ya do to the poor thing?!
Bunnie takes the Tails doll.
Sonic: Just ran around a little. Maybe you should make it stronger.
Bun: It ain't meant to go at breakneck speeds, sugar.
Sonic: Yeah, yeah. Hey, Tails! Ready to rock and roll?
Tails: You bet I am!
Ant: You are going now?
Sonic: What better time than now?
Sally touches his shoulder.
Sally: Good luck, Sonic.
Sonic: Won't need it!
He dashes to the plane as Tails flies there.
Fang: Oi! Need a sniper covering you?
Tails: The Tornado-Alpha only has two seats.
Fang: You can fit two men in one of them.
Sonic: Not comfortably.
Tails: That'd throw off the whole weight of the plane. Sorry, but this is a two man job.
Fang: Hmph! Just, don't get yourselves killed out there.
Sonic: No need to worry, gramps. We've got this!
Sonic and Tails hop into the plane's seats, with Tails in the front.
Fang: Oi! You know how to fly this thing?
Tails: I've read about it. How hard could it be?
Fang: I can fly you there!
Sonic: Okay. Just, get the key over there.
Fang runs to the workshop as the two take off.
Fang: Wait!
Sonic: See Ya!
Fang: Oh! I Hate That Hedgehog!
As the Tornado lifts above the trees and into the sky, Sonic stares at the world down below.
Sonic: Man! Sure looks different from up here.
Tails: Yeah. So nice and green. I guess Robotnik hasn't ruined as much as we thought.
Sonic: Ruined, no. But, it's all his, for now.
Tails looks at a cracked GPS screen that's pointed them the right way.
Tails: Yeah! Let's Bring Him Down!
Sonic: One step at a time, buddy. Let's get that Chaos Emerald!
