Here comes chapter 6. Earlier today I was checking to see if there were any chapter. At that point I was that the text had changed to some sort of code about font size. The story was completely gone. It was like this in all of the chapters. I tried to check some other stories on here. Some were fine while other were the same as mine. I got really scared by it, but I decided to wait a while. About twenty minutes I came back and was back to normal. Did any of you guys also experience this? Do you know what it was?
Anyways, enjoy!
Chapter 6: The Seed of Fear
“I will do it. I will definitely do it.”
I said, the excitement overflowing. I don’t know why, but the thought of sowing the seed of fear, of horrifying that Cheng clan, just sounded so fun. It was the perfect mission for a vampire. The vampires were the rulers of the night. We could blend into the shadows, easily climb walls and traverse the roof tops. Killing someone without being noticed was easy for us. We could use hypnosis to lure our victim into an empty alleyway, or we could sneak into their bedroom, through the window at night, and silently kill them.
Originally, after the maturing period I had gained the power of hypnosis. This power allowed me to control a mortals mind. But after these two years, this ability had increased in power. I could now control them from a distance. I could be looking through a window in a building, a hundred meters away, staring into the eyes of some by passer. This would compel the mortal to look in my direction, meeting my eyes. Then I could use my powers to hypnotise him, making him fall asleep on the spot, or make him go into an empty alleyway, only to meet his death.
Recently Amelia had also gained the hypnosis ability. This confirmed my theory of vampires gaining mystical powers as they age. There was no information of this in my brain, so originally I could only guess. But now I was sure. But it seemed like I gained the powers a lot faster than other vampires, since I was the progenitor. It made sense.
I looked at Bogat. I could see that he was relieved and glad.
“Good. Good, very good! If you can accomplish this task, I will do anything you want me to, and I mean anything. I’ll even serve you, if you want me to. But you will have to complete the task fist. And you better bide you time. Don’t rush, first learn their schedules, see where they like to go, and then when the target is off guard and secluded, then you strike! I have prepared you a list. On this list are the names and a picture off all the Cheng family members. Now, I wish you good luck.”
I took the list off of his hands. The list was compiled into eight pages. Each page had one target on them. The name and picture was provided on the paper, as well as a description of the targets family role. It was a good thing I could read now, or it would have been a bit embarrassing.
I looked at the first page. On this page was man named Cheng Tong. I thought it was bit weird that the family name was first, but Bogat said that it was a custom where the Cheng family came from. This Cheng Tong was in charge of the accounting of the Cheng businesses. I decided that he would be my first target
Our group of three went over to check out his work place. It was evening now, so the only light around came from the street lights. We arrived near the building where he worked. I could see that there were still people in the building. Our bodies flashed in the darkness, and a moment later we appeared on a rooftop. We kept observing the building. After a while of observing I finally saw his face appear as he walked past a window. A moment later he exited the building. He was talking with a few people that were going in the same direction. They weren’t guards or anything, just his workers.
Since there weren’t any guards following him, then that made killing him simpler. This first kill would be the easiest one, because after the first assassination the Cheng family would probably start walking around with guards. If not after the first one, then definitely after the second assassination. By then they would most likely realize they were being targeted. We followed Cheng Tong for a while. One by one his subordinates went in different directions. Now he was left completely alone.
There wasn’t anyone around here, he was completely alone. I decided that he would die here in the middle of street. I took out a knife and told Amelia and Kato to prepare to flee at full speed. I threw the knife. A moment late the knife pierced into the back of Cheng Tongs head. Thump! He fell down lifelessly, as we disappeared in flash. As we fled, we were carefully observing our surroundings making sure that no one was there.
We soon arrived back at Bogat’s mansion. We walked inn and were immediately led to the same room as before.
“Already back? Do you need anything?” he asked.
“Cheng Tong of the Cheng family has died. It has begun and the seed of fear has been planted.” I said to him coldly.
He looked at me in shock and surprise. He was surprised that we already killed him.
“Really? No one saw you right? Tell me, how did he die?”
I explained the death of Cheng Tong to him, and Bogat couldn’t help but let a smile creep unto his face. Bogat said that this was a cause for celebration. He even brought his daughter, Serana, to drink. I was surprised that she knew of this, and that she didn’t mind at all. She was even happy. Maybe I would bring this family into world of undead. As I thought this thought, I realized that I didn’t even know their family name.
“I just realized that you never told me your family name.” I said, as I really wanted to know. It was a bit weird that I didn’t know their last name, but I did know the last name of their mortal enemies.
“What, I haven’t told you? How stupid of me. Well, let me tell you. It’s Coldblood. I am Bogat Coldblood, and this is my daughter Serana Coldblood. How about you? What’s your last name?”
“I don’t have a last name yet to be honest. Both Amelia and I come from poor families in a rural area. I used to live on a small farm, until two years ago. Amelia lived in a nearby village.”
I told him with honesty. I had started to trust him after the two months I spent in the city. These months I had often visited him for a chat. I also quite liked his personality. If someone wronged him, he would want his revenge to be a hundred times worse. His wife was killed, so the only possible response is that the killer’s entire clan is exterminated. This is a philosophy I can agree with. And they even had such a last name. It would be perfect for vampires.
“You grew up in a small farm? How can someone that grew up in a farm be so powerful? I thought that you came from some warrior clan or perhaps wasn’t even from Fenlai Prefecture. You’re so young after all, only 21 years old, and already at the verge of breaking through to the B rank. Formidable.”
We spent the night drinking and having fun. Serana even drank quite a bit. Bogat was shocked at how much Amelia, Kato and I could drink. Vampires are immune to poison, so the alcohol had no effect on us, whatsoever.
The next day we had a meeting about how we should go about exterminating the Cheng clan. We decided that we would divide the intel gathering into three parts. Amelia and I would both observe a target each, discovering where they liked to go, when they went home and so on. Kato would in turn stay outside the Cheng family home, observing them. Vampire have heightened senses, so if we concentrate we would be able to listen to everything happened in another building. Therefore we wanted Kato to observe the Cheng family, so we always knew what was going on there. This way they wouldn’t be able to sneak out of the city. If they did we would know immediately and follow them, then kill them somewhere outside the city.
We anticipated that they would most likely try this when a certain number of their family members had died. We spent the next days observing. I decided to stalk a person named Cheng Hong. These guys really had similar names. This Cheng Hong was an inspector. He would go around the city inspecting the Cheng family businesses. If anything was wrong he would find out. I spent four weeks quietly following him around, like his own shadow. In these four week Kato brought it to our attention that the Cheng family had grieved over Cheng Tong’s death and thoroughly investigated it, but in the end they didn’t find out anything. There were no witnesses, and no evidence except the knife. The only thing they knew was that the knife was thrown from a rooftop.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
After four weeks of stalking I had found out what Cheng Hongs schedule was. He would go to certain stores on certain days. He didn’t go to the stores randomly, which was a bit weird. If he did go randomly he would be able to catch them off guard. I also found that he liked to go to a certain tavern. There he would drink his “sorrows” away. Whatever those sorrows were. Later I found out that those sorrows were his job. Apparently he hated his job. He didn’t like to have to walk all over the city every day. Especially since this city was so huge.
There lived an astonishing amount of people in this world. In this city alone there were almost ten million citizens. And this was the smallest capital of the kingdom. In the royal capital there lived almost a hundred million people. Who knew how many there were in the entire kingdom. Since there were this many people it made it a bit easier to feed on the poor citizens that wouldn’t be missed, then burn their bodies. When we fed on people in the city, we only fed on those poor beggars. No one would notice or care about them disappearing.
Every day after work he would go to this tavern. Then he would leave around midnight, drunk.
Amelia had also figured out what her target liked to do. Her target was a female called Cheng Miu. Cheng Miu didn’t do much work, and was at home most of the time. But every Friday she would go and meet a few of her friends. They would go party or eat at a restaurant or something along those lines.
We decided that we would kill those two at the same time. I would take care of Cheng Hong, and she would take care of Cheng Miu.
The next night I was waiting outside the tavern that Cheng Hong liked to go to. He was currently inside drinking. I was standing on a rooftop, waiting. It was around midnight. I looked through the window of the tavern. I caught his eyes. Cheng Hong suddenly felt a strong urge to look out the window, up to the roofs, into my eyes. I used my hypnotic powers to compel him to leave. Cheng immediately left. He began walking in a random direction. Then we walked into a dark alleyway. I went into the alleyway as I released him from the hypnosis. He looked shocked. He had no idea why he all of a sudden went here. He could remember walking, he just didn’t know why he came here. I stood behind him, silent as the night. I got closer to his ear as I whispered.
“It’s your turn now.”
He was horrified as he felt my voice go into his ear. I took out my knife and slid it across his throat. Soon his head fell to the ground, and his body collapsed. I looked out to the street to see if anyone was nearby. It was completely empty, and I also couldn’t sense anyone. Perfect, I thought. I looked around for a stick or pole, or something long. I found an iron rod on the ground. How weird, I thought. Why would there be an iron rod here?
I didn’t think about it further and grabbed the rod. I walked out to the street. I stabbed the rod into the ground, then I stabbed Cheng Hongs head unto the rod. I then laid the headless body in front of the rod, and disappeared like a shadow. This all took just a moment, as I was going full speed, so that I wouldn’t be noticed. It was a bit risky to do this, but it would strike fear into the hearts of the Cheng family. I was very satisfied with my work, and couldn’t wait to tell Bogat about it.
3rd person perspective, Amelia
The sun had went down and Amelia went over to the Cheng family home, to wait for Cheng Miu to leave. Soon a group of girls arrived at the house, and Miu soon came out. The girls walked for a while until they arrived in front of a house. This house belonged to one of the girls that Miu used to hang out with. The girl wasn’t present in the group before, so they must either gone to get her, or they were going to hang out here. The girls went into the house. Amelia stayed outside listening. It seemed like they had indeed gone there to hang out. The hours passed as the girls were doing their thing, and Amelia was waiting. It was around midnight now. Amelia and Isaac had decided that they would both strike at about the same time.
At this moment, Amelia snuck up to the window to the room the girls were in. She managed to open it and went in. The girls were looking in shock, as an astonishing beauty entered the room.
“Who are you?” one of the girls asked in fear.
“I’m here to kill you all.” Amelia answered, a smile of malice on her face. Amelia formed a claw and rushed in front of the girl, decapitating her. The girls screamed as they saw the head roll on the floor. Amelia smiled at the scene, then rushed in front of another girl. Another head touched the floor. There were now four girls left. Amelia made another flash, as two more heads rolled. Two remaining. She walked towards one of the girls. She stopped in front of her, then grabbed her head with one hand, the shoulder with the other. She started pulling. The girl started screaming in insufferable pain as her head slowly tore off her body. After a while of intense pain, the girls head was no longer connected to her body.
Amelia looked at Cheng Miu, the last remaining girl.
“This is all because you killed the wife of the Coldblood family.” She said with evil intent in her voice. A moment later, the last head touched the floor. Then like a shadow, Amelia disappeared from the room. Soon after she could hear a scream full of grief and shock come from the house.
The way she had killed them was gruesome. This would surely cause fear in the Cheng family, and then Isaac would surely be happy. For Amelia, Isaac was the most important thing in the world. She would do anything for him. Her killing all of Cheng Miu’s friends would also make other people afraid of associating with the Cheng family. Anyone with a brain would be able connect all the deaths after all. By this point it would be ever apparent that someone was targeting them.
Isaac, Amelia and Kato soon met. Isaac and Amelia told of their successes, and then immediately went to the Coldblood mansion. Bogat was overjoyed to hear of their deaths. He really was one sinister fellow, to actually feel happiness from their gruesome deaths. But then again, Isaac and Amelia were the cause of these deaths, so wouldn’t they be even more sinister?
The next day, there was an upheaval in the Cheng family. They were shocked and afraid. They had realized that they were being targeted, and the killer was an insane psychopath who even put the head of Cheng Hong on display in the middle of the street, and massacred Cheng Miu and her friends in her friends own house, without being discovered. They were terrified and couldn’t help fear for their lives.
They were almost completely sure that the cause of these deaths were the Coldblood family, but they didn’t have any proof. They were also somehow afraid of the Coldblood family now. It was clear that the killers were very powerful and quick. When did the Coldblood family get such powerful people? The Cheng family didn’t even have any C rank combatants. Their strongest guard was only at the D rank. In this weak prefecture of Fenlai, usually the powerful families didn’t actually have any powerful guards. Most of the people who reached D rank would be mercenaries and wouldn’t want to serve a family. Only the army had numerous C and B rank soldiers. But there wasn’t even a single A rank in the entire prefecture. Not even the Lord Commander was A rank. He was only B rank. You would have to be an exceptionally strong C rank to be able to kill these people so quickly. No normal C rank would do. It would have to be someone with special abilities or someone with a rare technique.
For the Coldblood family to have acquired a powerful C rank or B rank was unthinkable. It was impossible for them to have hired a mercenary, and there weren’t any powerful assassin organization in the Fenlai Prefecture. Therefore the only possibility was for them to have powerful C rank or B rank under them.
If this was really the case then the Cheng clan was really doomed. Because they had killed the wife of the Coldblood family. At the time, they probably didn’t think this would bring about the destruction of their clan.
