Chapter 2: Spring of Blood

I looked at the girl, waiting for her to recover. She had a look of shock on her face, but most of the fear and hate had somehow disappeared. This might have something to do with me changing her. The change would not only transform you mind and body, the fledgling would also be bound to its creator, and be ever loyal, except if verbally released from the bond.

She opened her mouth as she was about to speak.

“Wha-what did you do to m-me?”

Her voice trembled nervously as I kept looking at her affectionately. Then I spoke.

“I have turned you into a vampire, and given you eternal life, so that we can travel this road together for eternity.”

I said with a serious tone.

“Y-you’re a vampire? Vampires are real? I thought that vampires only existed in legends. This can’t be true, can it?”

She asked nervously, with fear appearing in her eyes once more. I looked her in the eyes.

“Vampires are very real. I am a vampire, as are you. But don’t misunderstand. Of all the vampires in the entire world, we are the only ones. Before this day vampires hadn’t existed for millennia, only on this day did we once more rise. But it is only you and me, so we must work hard to make us a standing in this world, and expand our clan. I am the progenitor, the first, the one, and you are a fledgling, one of many to come.”

I said to her with a serious tone, as I carefully explained to her what she was. After I had explained to her of her newfound powers, I had finally come to the important part.

“I don’t know your name. What is it?” I asked with curiosity.

“M-my name is Amelia.” She looked surprised, as she had said her name without hesitation, without even thinking about it. This was the power of the bond. She had to obey and couldn’t lie to me, her master.

“Good, Amelia, you can call me Isaac. Now I have to tell you something very important. As a vampire you need to feed on the life force of other, blood namely. Since you just transformed you are going to need a big amount of blood. You won’t need as much as I did, killing an entire village, though. Those people over there should be enough.”

I looked her in eyes, showing my seriousness. I could see that she was shocked and hesitant from hearing that, but I knew that she would feed, even if I didn’t order her.

She looked at the woman and kids, then back at me.

“I can’t kill them, I can’t! I lived with these people, I’ve known them for years.”

She said she didn’t want to kill them, but it didn’t sound convincing. I wasn’t worried anyway. I knew she wouldn’t be able to stop herself in the end. I looked at her again and said.

“Drink. It’s better if you do it now, so you won’t have to face the pain of hunger later. I had to wait several hours before I got to your village, and the hunger drove me insane, and the pain was unbearable. If you don’t drink now you will turn into an insane monster.”

I looked her in the eyes, telling her of the consequences of not feeding.

“Alright, fine. I will kill them and drink their blood.”

She looked at me one last time before she turned to the captives. The children looked at her with fear in their eyes, while the woman begged her to let them go. She walked over to the boy. She grabbed him and bit into his neck. The boy started kicking and screaming, while she drained him of blood. Soon he stopped moving and screaming. Not long after, he fell to the floor, pale as snow. The girls and woman were crying in despair.

Amelia then grabbed one of the twin girls and bit into her neck. The remaining two tried to run away, but I quickly moved to the entrance of the cave and stopped them. They then looked towards Amelia as she dropped the little girl to the floor. She was dead. She then moved towards the other girl, quickly grabbed her and drained her of blood. Finally she moved towards the middle aged woman.

“Why, Amelia! Why did you do this! I’ve known you since you were a baby, I often took care of you when your parents were away! Why did you this, why did you kill my children! You monster, you fiend!”

She screamed into her face, demanding an answer with a look of betrayal and piercing sadness in her eyes, as the tears flowed down her cheeks. Amelia looked at her. Then a small smile appeared on her face.

“Why? Because I’m hungry, because blood is tasty and most importantly, because Master told me to.”

She smiled at her, as she bit down her neck, slowly sucking all of the blood out of her body. This time she wasn’t as quick about it, relishing in the delicious flavour of the blood. After a while the woman finally fell to the floor, her face as pale as the snow that had started falling outside the cave.

She turned to me, with a smile on her face, some blood dripping from her red lips.

“Good Amelia, I’m proud of you. But you don’t need to call me master, just call me Isaac, as I will call you Amelia, not servant.” I said to her with a smile on my face, showing my happiness in her. I really was proud of her. She didn’t resist for long, and almost immediately drained them, which pleased me. She looked happy at my words. She had seemed to have accepted and adapted very quickly. I was liking her more and more. I had made a good choice.

“Now, Amelia, I spent a lot of energy and blood essence on turning you, so I need to rest for a few days. I need you to go and capture a few wild animals for me to feed on. Feel free to catch some for yourself as well if you want to. Since I made you so powerful, I really spent a lot of energy, so I probably hibernate for a few days. Also you should seal the entrance to the cave. Now go.”

After this I went into a corner of the cave and lied down. Soon I felt my mind slip away.

A few days later I woke up. I didn’t feel as tired anymore, but I was very thirsty. I didn’t really know how long it had been though. I looked around. There was no one here, not even the bodies of those villagers. I looked towards the entrance of the cave. There was a simple primitive looking door there now. Seems like Amelia built it. I opened the door and walked outside. What I saw when I got out quite surprised me. There was now a simple fence around the entrance. The fence was around ten meters in length. In this fenced off area, there were a few animals of different kinds. I looked around to see if Amelia was here, but I couldn’t see her. I decided to take one of the animals into the cave, since I was very thirsty. I grabbed the animal and went inside, closing the door behind me.

I quickly bit into the animal, but found that it wasn’t as tasty human blood. At this moment I wondered what elven blood or even dwarf or orc blood tasted like. There weren’t many orcs and dwarfs in the world, but were quite a few elves. Not as many as humans though. Dwarfs were known well for their craftsmanship, and usually lived in underground cities, while orcs were warriors and barbaric. They lived in villages in desolate plains and the like.

Elves on the other hand were very civilized, and loved art and beauty. They were also very good at making art and craftsmanship, but dwarfs were better at craftsmanship though. They also had very long lives, some might even live for a thousand years. They also had a very low birth rate, which is the reason there aren’t as many of them as there are humans. I could quite appreciate these elves. Vampires also highly valued beauty, art and craftsmanship. We’re also very good at these things.

Soon after I finished drinking, I heard the door open. In came Amelia. I looked at her with a smile on my face as I saw and exited expression appear on her face as she noticed me.

“Isaac! You’re finally awake again!” she said with excitement in her voice.

“Good job on gathering the animals and making the fence. It’s very handy. Now, how long did I sleep?” I asked her with curiosity. I had no idea about how long I slept for. I just knew that I was very thirsty when I woke up, and that all my mana had recovered.

“You were asleep for two weeks. Two weeks! You said it would only be a few days. I was really lonely here on my own”

I was surprised. I had slept for two week? I really didn’t think it would be that long.

“I really didn’t think it would be that long. I’m sorry Amelia. I’ll make it up to you.” I said with a smile

“It’s fine. It isn’t your fault. I’m the reason you spent that much energy anyways.” She said with an amiable smile. I was liking her more and more. I really had made a good decision. She was very nice, but would heartlessly kill any humans. She was also efficient and had gathered several animals, and even built a fence around them. I started having very positive feeling towards her. I even wanted to kiss her right there, but I controlled myself.

3rd person perspective.

Meanwhile down in the village there had appeared a big group of armed men. These men were soldiers from the army of Kalderon. Kalderon is the country they were currently in. These soldiers had been sent to the village after the massacre was discovered to investigate. They had already spent five days there. In these five days they had burned the village down, and sanctified the village grounds. This was to prevent the dead from rising again. They had also investigated the massacre of course.

Currently a big man in shining armour was sitting in a chair in front of a table in a tent. In front of him were three more soldiers. The man in the chair was the commander of this squadron, and the other three were his lieutenants. One of men spoke.

“The people here were all massacred in a brutal way. Many of them didn’t even have a drop of blood in their body. A very big monster with a big stomach must have done it, and it has a big appetite for blood. I suspect that it might be an E rank monster, the Blood Lion. They love the taste of blood, even though they don’t need it.”

The big man in the chair looked at the men. Then he sat silent for a moment, pondering.

“Yes, it is most likely the E rank monster, Blood Lion. Considering from the scene we saw, it shouldn’t be a rank D monster. There shouldn’t be any D rank monsters in this forest anyway. Since it’s an E rank monster, we should be able to handle it. Tell the men to ready, we set out in an hour.” After the commander spoke, the three lieutenant walked out to ready the men.

An hour later there were twenty men standing in a formation. In front of them was the commander.

“Men, we need to be careful on this mission. We are facing a rank E monster, the Blood Lion. It is known to be very ferocious, and has an appetite for human blood. If you’re not careful you might very well lose your life. Now, let’s go!” the commander said, with ferocity.

Then men walked into the forest, in the direction where they had found broken branches and other signs of the beast. They were slowly advancing forwards, looking for the Blood Lion. After they had walked for five hours, they finally arrived at a cave. When they saw this cave, they were very surprised. This is because outside the cave there was a fence going around a simple door. Inside the fence there were various animals. They were many kilometers into the forest, so there shouldn’t be anyone living here. The commander carefully walked towards the fence. When he was two meters away from the fence, he stopped. He was carefully looking at his surroundings, looking for any traps, or the like. Suddenly the door opened. Out came a young man. He looked to be about twenty years old. The young man looked towards the commander and the soldiers.

“Who are you and what are you doing out here. This place is dangerous, it isn’t a place for someone like you” the commander said to the young man. He was looking warily at him, while the young man only smiled.

“My name is Isaac, and I live out here at the moment. And you needn’t worry, this place doesn’t pose much danger to me.” The young man suddenly spoke. His sound sounded mysterious and powerful, but looking at the young man’s body, he couldn’t be very strong.

“Isaac, you really need to leave this place. There is a Blood Lion around here somewhere. Do you know how strong they are? They are rank E monsters. They could easily kill you, it even massacred the village five hours from here. You should come with us, I can take you to another village. This place is too dangerous.” The commander spoke with a serious tone. He was genuinely worried about this young man he met in the forest. He intended to make a few men escort him back to the village while they killed the Blood Lion.

Isaac 1st person.

I looked at man as he spoke. I wanted to laugh. He thought that some Blood Lion massacred the village? What a joke! From the information I got from Gebados, I knew that my strength should be at the stronger echelons of rank D. These men would barely be able to kill a rank E monster. For me killing them would be easy. And there was only twenty of them. If Amelia and I teamed up, we could kill them all in a few minutes. But I wanted to capture a few of them for food, so I wanted to try and get them into a cave. Recently we found another cave very close to ours. It was well hidden so we didn’t see it right away. This place would do well to keep this cattle.

“Alright, that is probably for the best. But first, you must be thirsty. There is a cave over there hidden between the vines. There is water spring in there, it’s quite tasty. Let me just call my wife and I will show it to you.”

The commander agreed and I called for my “wife” Amelia. This “commander” was quite naïve. After Amelia arrived I started walking towards the cave. I told them that it was quite big, and that everyone could fit in. I moved all the vines that covered the entrance and went in first, while Amelia waited for everyone else to get in. The moment everyone got in a malicious smile appeared on my face. I grabbed the neck of the nearest soldier, lifted him up from the ground and bit his throat, tearing it up. I held him up above my face, as I let his blood flow down into my mouth. I laughed as I saw the shocked and horrified expression on his face as he died. I dropped him and turned around. Everyone, especially the commander had a shocked and hateful expression on. I laughed out loud.

“You really thought it was some lowly E rank Blood Lion that massacred that village? No, no, no, it was no Blood Lion. Saying that it was a Blood Lion would be insulting me, as it was I that killed everyone there, and drank all of their blood. Now prepare yourself, for some of you shall die, while others shall become our food!” as I said this last sentence everyone realized that it was no rank E monster that massacred the village. The commander screamed.

“It’s a vampire! A vampire out of the legends, everyone RUN!” He screamed and turned to run, but was only met by Amelia at the cave entrance. She grabbed him and threw him across the room.

Then the bloodbath commenced.

I grabbed a soldiers arm and flung him like a morning star after the other soldiers. He clashed into a few soldiers, who all flew unto the wall of the cave. They all died from the crash. Next I jumped in front of another soldier. I grabbed his head with one hand, and his shoulder with the other. I pulled as hard as I could, and his head snapped. His neck even got a bit torn, and dangled to side. Needlessly to say, he fell down dead. Then I used one of the vampiric powers and made my nails grow in length and turn into claws. In a flash I appeared in front of another soldier and thrusted my hand into his chest. I grabbed the heart and pulled. I now held his heart in my hand, he still wasn’t dead, so before he fell, I bit into the heart and consumed the blood that was still in it. This blood tasted even better than normal human blood.

In a flash there were only six soldiers left. One of them was the commander, while another one was one of the lieutenants. The rest were normal soldiers. Amelia was in a corner feasting on some half dead soldier.

I turned towards my new captives and said “You are the lucky ones to live for now. You will serve as our food for the next few days until we decide to leave. Don’t try to escape. If you do, you die.”

I turned around and walked away. Amelia finished her meal and followed me. As we got out I grabbed a big stone with my arms, and pushed it to the cave entrance, sealing it. Then I turned around and walked into our cave. Inside the cave I turned to Amelia and said

“Amelia, we are going to have to leave this place soon. Those soldiers were probably from the army Kalderon. They were most likely sent to investigate the massacre of your village. Since they have already died, they won’t be returning, so the army will most likely send a team to investigate their disappearance. This team will probably be a lot stronger than they were, at least D rank, which I am. You are only at the top of E rank at the moment, so we would die too easily against them.” I explained to her in detail why we needed to leave. Then we decided that we would leave as soon as tomorrow.

The next day we were standing outside the prison cave. I moved the boulder from the entrance and entered.

“We have come to feed. Prepare yourself.” I said as I appeared in front of the commander. I grabbed him and sank my teeth into his neck and began drinking to my heart’s content. Amelia also grabbed one of the soldiers and drained him dry. Soon there were two more corpses littering the ground. I looked deep into the eyes of the lieutenant. I could hear his heart starting to beat faster.

“We are going to leave this place now, so we won’t kill anymore of you. You get to live. Congratulations. If you get hungry you can eat the corpses of your fellow soldiers, if you get thirsty you can drink from the spring water.” They looked at me in relief and confusion. They were wondering what I meant by my words. They could eat their friends and drink the water? I walked out of the cave, Amelia at my back. When I stood outside I looked at the surviving soldiers one last time.

Then I moved the boulder to the entrance again and sealed them inside forever. A few seconds after I could hear their muffled screams. Very little sound could escape from that cave. I only heard it because of my superior senses. I told them that I would let them live, but I never told them I would let them go. They wouldn’t last long in there. The water had been polluted by the blood, and there was a corpse in it. As it rots it would poison the water. And as the bodies start rotting they won’t be able to eat them. They wouldn’t last longer than a week before death.

I looked towards Amelia and nodded. Then we started running away at full speed. We were running to the opposite site of the forest, away from the village. This was a very big forest, but with our speed we could get through it in a few days. Thus we started our journey.
