Interlude: A history lesson

Interlude: A history lesson

In a giant room filled with books and people, a person sat down with his collection of books. Each one of these books detailed the history of the Tailmen. From the bag that he put down earlier, he pulled out a notebook and a pen. Opening the notebook about halfway through you could see that one of the pages was filled with notes. He then took one of the books from the collection he brought over and opened it as well. From there he started to read.

This book detailed the rules of the Tailmen and what the punishment for breaking them was. It also detailed when someone broke said rule and why. There were many rules and examples of the rules being broken. The Tailmen has been around for a long time after all and people breaking rules will always happen.

One such example is pedophilia. This is a horrific crime that has been committed by corrupt priests in many religions. Sadly these other religions didn't have the Omegians and their strict rules to guide them. The punishment for pedophilia while being a priest or member of the faith is to have your reproductive organs mutilated.

This wasn't so bad except this was done with crude instruments and while fully conscious and aware. There is also no numbing of pain. You would also be marked with a special brand that would always show no matter what. This brand showed what you did and would forever mark you. It also fully tracked your movements and what you did.

Fortunately, this only happened a couple of times within the vast history of the Tailmen. These incidents happened in the early parts of the Tailmen and when people became truly corrupt and thought they could get away with it. They were wrong and showed the entire Tailmen what happens when you break the rules and stray off the path.

Stolen novel; please report.

There are other crimes as well, such as abusing your power or position, that also have fitting crimes. Should you abuse your power in the Tailmen then you would never be allowed to have money. The things you need to survive like food and water would need to be bought by the grace of other people. You also only had the clothes on you back and nothing else. You would similarly be marked for your crime.

Should you commit any crime you would be marked and have a punishment fitting for such a crime. Should you commit the ultimate crime of murder then you would be turned into a slave. You would thereafter never be allowed control over your own life and have your life taken away from your control.

Should you steal then you then be forced to work in places that had high-value items. Should you commit rape then you lose all sense of pleasure in your body. You would then be placed in an institution especially made for such things. Should you commit torture, or other high crimes or a collection of high crimes, then you were sent to a moon called purgatory. There is no information available to the public about purgatory nor who works there.

Purgatory is built into the moon and the size of it is similarly unknown. There is a vast fleet of ships and personnel stationed there that all have no identification. They don't speak and should you get to close without authorization then an automatic message is sent to you. If you fail to heed the message then you would be destroyed. This is one of the most mysterious places in the galaxy and only those of a high position know what exactly goes on in there.

With all of these punishments exist in the Tailmen, along with the enforcement of said punishments, made its highest positions highly qualified. It also showed that those in the highest positions are highly trusted as you could only get those positions by serving in a lower position for a specified amount of time. To be the High Tain you had to be free of all crime for your entire life and also be faithful as well. The earliest you could possibly become the High Tain is in 120 years.

All of these factors combined to make the Tailmen into the government with the least amount of corruption as well as having the least amount of crime.

He finished reading and writing as he heard a bell ring nine times. He packed up and picked up the books he was reading. After placing them back in their positions he left the giant library and went home. He would be back tomorrow.
