It was a nice calm down in Greenwood, almost too nice. The birds were chirping, the populace of the city was calm, and I, Lillia was attending my duties as Housecarl, whatever that means.
As a housecarl, my duty was to protect my master. Unfortunately, I did not have a master, nor was Jarl going to assign me a master to protect.
“I wish Jarl Greenson would give me another duty besides patrolling the streets of Greenwood,” I mumbled to myself as I tripped and fell down the stairs that led to the market.
“Oh Lillia, how are you this fine morning?”
“Hello, Mr. Asketill, I’m doing fine this fine morning.”
“Attending to your daily housecarl duties I see,” he said in a teasing tone.
“Yes, yes…” I responded with a groan. “Just trying… to do my duties as the housecarl.”
“HAHAHA, you’re working hard as ever,” he responded as he helped me back up. “Now Lillia, I wanted to know something.”
“What is it Mr. Asketill? I asked in a curious tone.
“Have you heard of the rumors of the Dragonlord resurrecting?”
“T-The Dragonlords?”
“Do you know who the Dragonlords are?”
“Yes, I do, but I thought that they were nothing but fairytales, to keep noble children inline.”
“No, no, the Dragonlords were real beings that once reeked chaos in the world hundreds of years ago.”
“Hundreds of years ago? What good would telling those stories to children do now.”
“It’s simple, so we don’t forget about our past.”
“Our past?”
“The Dragonlords are powerful beings capable of destroying many kingdoms, topple empires, and bring down the greatest of adventurers.”
“Yes, I know that, but what kind of past would we need to remember if it was all just destruction.”
“The end of times…”
“The end of times?”
“Yes, the end of times.” Mr. Asketill responded in a creepy tone as he revealed a gray gem hidden in his coat. “Lillia, I had a dream last night of the destruction of this town, I want you to use this gem and find the Dragonslayer.”
“The Dragonslayer?”
“Yes, the Dragonslayer,” he said in an even more ominous tone. “Can you do this for me?”
“But I have my duties as Housecarl.”
“Forget your duty as Housecarl, you need to find the Dragonslayer as soon as possible!” he said with his voice cracking.
“And if I don’t?”
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“Then the end of times shall never end.”
I sighed. “I get it, I shall go find this so-called “Dragonslayer,” but you have to tell me how this gem works.”
Mr. Asketill nodded, “This gem is imbedded with special magic that when you have your mana flow into it, it shall create a shining path similar to Clairvoyance to the Dragonslayer.”
“I see.”
“Go prepare, your journ-”
Suddenly an explosion could be heard towards the gates of the town.
Looks like It’s my time to shine.
“Mr. Asketill, run away now!”
“Bu-but.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t die,” I said with a smirk.
Mr. Asketill nodded, “I understand.”
As he started running towards the opposite direction of the explosion, I saw a group of guards looking at each other in confusion.
“What are you guys doing? We have to help the people we swore to protect!”
“Y-yes Ma'am”
----------------------------------------
When we arrived at the front gates, I saw that they were blown wide open. The walls were burnt and had holes in them. There were bodies all-around of guards, men, women, children, adventurers, merchants, and charred remains. Who could do something like this?
I looked ahead as the smoke began to clear. Standing in front of me were two people. One seemed to be a man and the other seemed to be a woman. They both seemed to be in special looking armor in contrast to their youthful looks.
“Brother, it seems like the people of this era are quite weak.” said the man.
“I don’t think they’re weaker, sister, it's just that we are a lot stronger than before we died.” said the woman.
“I see.” said the man with a devilish smirk. “Then shall we test our stronger abilities more?”
“We shall sister.” said the woman as she cast a large lavender-colored orb.
“Not on my watch!” I said as I jumped in front of them.
“Sister, who is this woman in my way?”
“I don’t know brother, but don’t worry your magic should be able to take her easily down,” she said with a devilish smile.
“Tsk… I would see you try.” I said preparing my shield.
“Then I hope you survive your foolishness.” said the woman as she launched the orb towards me.
The orb struck my shield before exploding into particles of lighting that encapsulated my body.
“FUCK!” I screamed in agony as I collapsed onto the ground.
“Good grief, that was not fun watching.” said the man.
“Sister, violence is never fun to watch.”
“Tsk. tsk. Brother violence is always fun especially when it leads you to hidden treasure.” said the man as he approached my smoking body. “Look at this brother, do you recognize this kind of gem?”
“That silver gem… is it the one that leads to the Dragonslayer?”
“Exactly brother, with this gem, we shall single-handedly bring the end of times, once more.” said the man with an evil grin.
“How shall we do it, sister?”
“Simple brother, we shall kill the Dragonslayer before the other Dragonlords are resurrected.”
So, the rumors are true!
The man then lifted her foot and kicked me towards the side. “Well I can’t walk into this town without filth in the way, brother can you please clear the way for a pretty lady like me?”
“Yes, sister.”
I turned my head, trying to not give away the fact that I was alive. The woman who turned out to be a man was casting a large dark purple orb. He then launched the orb towards the ground and a large scaly creature came out a dragon.
“ROARRRR!!!!” Exclaimed the dragon as the large dark purple orb started disappearing around it.
I quickly rolled over behind to some rubble as I covered my ears and closed my eyes. The roar of that dragon-filled my insides with terror.

What the fuck are these {Afflictions}? I sighed then looked back at the dragon. It let out another roar, knocking me out unconscious as I failed to protect myself.
When I came to, I was covered in rubble. I pushed myself out of the rubble with my remaining strength. As I stood up I looked at my arms. Bruises and cuts were everywhere. I sniffed the air around me. It was dry and smoky. I prepared myself as I turned towards the town.
The town was completely destroyed. The buildings were now piles of rubbles. The bodies were all charred to unrecognizable lengths. The walls were just piles of stones, and the watchtowers were completely toppled over.
I sighed. I looked towards the direction of Greenriver. There was no smoke coming from it and it seemed to have remained untouched. I guess that’s where I am heading to now…
