ReLive: So What If I Exploited the System?
Chapter 14 (V2): Midnight Melancholy

Chapter 14 (V2): Midnight Melancholy

When I woke up, I looked out of the window, it was still dark. I glanced around the room to find that Gordon was asleep over the table. There was a plate of food that was left in front of the empty table. I threw the blanket off myself and stared at my body. I was fully clothed and back to normal.

I then hopped out of bed and slowly walked to the table, careful to not make a sound. I lifted myself up the chair. It wasn’t too tall, and it seemed that it was not too old, since it did not make a creak when initially sitting on it. I then glanced at the wooden table in front of me. It was a smooth kind of wood, but not plastered. There was no cloth draped over it when food was served.

I looked at the food, it was just pork with a little gravy on it. There were some vegetables that I recognized in it, like broccoli and peas. In the corner of the plate, there were mashed potatoes. On the sides of the plate, there was a fork and knife. I reached for the utensils and they felt cold to the touch. How long was I asleep for?

Using the utensils, I poked at the mashed potatoes with my fork, they seemed mushy and did not jiggle.

“Thank you for the meal,” I said as I licked the remnants of the mashed potatoes that were left on the fork, it was cold but edible. The flavor of the mashed potatoes itself was a sweet flavor that had a hint of salt in it. I then started to eat for the rest of the meal. The pork was chewy, but rich in flavor while the vegetables were soft.

After I finished eating, I laid the fork and knife back into their positions that I had found and cleaned the rest of the plate off with my tongue, since I didn’t want to waste any food.

I then walked to the tomes and sat on the floor beside them. I pondered at what to do next. If I use Transfer Knowledge, I feel like that headache would kill me, after all, there were 4 spells left to learn, and I had to learn them one by one.

I then opened my ability screen and decided to learn the first ability of all the magic skill trees. I acquired |Novice Restoration|, |Novice Alteration|, |Novice Illusion|, and |Novice Destruction| abilities.

I then stared glanced at the skill trees to see if I wanted to spend my Branches on anything else. Guess I’ll just save them for now.

When I finished, I swiped the UI away and reached for the white tome. Judging by the color of this time, it was definitely the [Lesser Heal] spell. Lesser heal was a novice level healing spell, and it was weaker than a health potion because it required a charge time and only healed up to 10 HP. I then opened the book.

To my surprise, I could read the words that were in the tome. They were in the Saxon language, but I noticed that I was flipping through the pages beneath the page I was currently reading glowed before I got to it. So, the tome has an auto-translation feature, huh? If my old world had that kind of magic, the world would have been a better place.

After a long hour of reading through the entire book and reaching the end, I shut it, before it exploded into dust.

*POP*

It was like I was in some sort of cartoon, because of the way it just exploded in front of me. At first, I couldn’t process what happened. I glanced at my hand, then I glanced in between them where the tome used to be, before glancing back at my hands.

After a few minutes of back and forth glancing, my brain finally clicked, and I realized what had transpired. Did I acquire the spell?

I did not have a headache, but I had a clear knowledge of what was in that tome and how to cast the spell. I then opened my

Did I find an exploit in this original to this world? Nonetheless, an original exploit was never in the game. I then grinned at excitement. If I could just skim through reading the tome this would be the greatest exploit ever.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

I then grabbed a brown tome that was sitting on top of the pile of books. I quickly skimmed through it, using the timing of the orange glows to control the pacing of my reading. When I reached the end of the tome and closed the book, like the previous book it exploded into dust in a cartoonish way. Furthermore, after waiting a couple of closing the book, a killer headache did not subside.

I checked on my and I saw that I had acquired the [Detect Life] spell. Success.

I then grabbed onto the next book and began to use the exploit that I had learned. After a session that felt like 6 hours long (was actually 2 hours long), I had finally reached the final tome. This tome was for the spell [Ironflesh] which was not a novice level spell in any stretch. I was worried because I believed that this exploit depended on my abilities that I spent my branches on.

After some hesitation, I pushed myself to finish reading the Tome of Ironflesh, and to my surprise when I finished the book. It just cartoonishly exploded and no headache came. I waited for 5 minutes before I celebrated by just doing nothing but sitting still. When no headache came, I silently celebrated with maximum excitement. This exploit I found is worthy to anger the Devas, and I am proud of it!

When I finished my short celebration, I knew what had to come next. I quietly crawled over to Gordon. He was still sleeping on the table. His snores were loud but gentle. The sound reminded me of when I was napping with my father from this world. This was bliss to my ears and to my mind, after all, what I had to do next will be seen as unfathomable, especially, to people in this world.

I quickly opened his satchel to see if it was inside there, my surprise it was not there. I scrolled through the UI that opened in front of me multiple times, and to no avail, I could not find it at all.

I sat on the floor and sighed quietly. After a few minutes of pondering, I headed over to the kitchen and looked at the drawers. There had to be a drawer full of them somewhere.

Through some intense searching, I finally came across them. A drawer full of knives. I then individually inspected them to find the perfect one. I could not use a knife that was too sharp otherwise if a wound was too deep it would take too long to heal, and if the knife was too dull, would it even cut my skin in the first place?

After a few minutes of finding the perfect knife, I finally managed to get one. The knife looks new, but not too new. There was no rusting nor was it sharp enough to cut through my hair.

I grabbed the knife and a towel from the basket near the bathroom and headed inside. I then closed the door and leaned against the door. I did not want Gordon to wake up and see what I am about to do. What I was doing was risky, but it was the only way to gain skill points in the Alteration Tree and Restoration Tree in the most efficient manner.

I grabbed the collar of my shirt and pulled it towards my mouth. I bit it hard and strengthened my resolve. This wasn’t the time to back down, after all, I need to become strong, I need to survive, I need to be able to tackle any challenges that the Devas were going to throw my way. I grabbed the knife and I slowly moved it towards my arm. When I felt the tip of the blade reach my arm, I slowly moved it in a vertical direction towards my inner-elbow.

I saw the blood coming from my arm as I bit the collar of my shirt harder. I felt the dampness of the collar being overwhelmed by the drool. I felt the sweat coming from my forward dropping rapidly. I felt the tears in my eyes coming down. Although I did not cut that deep, the pain was still unbearable for me for some reason.

When I reached my upper inner-elbow, I dropped the knife. The clanging of a knife hitting the floor brought me back to the world around me. The cold air coming in from the window helped stabilize my breathing. The sound of nature outside helped calm my nerves.

I placed all my weight towards leaning on the door for a few minutes. My breathing calmed and the tears coming from my eyes stopped. I felt my face turning hot red from the embarrassment of what I have done. I then grabbed the towel and placed it in the bucket filled with water nearby. The wet towel felt cold to the touch.

I then wiped the blood off my arm with the towel. The coldness of the water gave a sense of relief as it touched my skin. The sensation initially gave me goosebumps, but then my nerves were calmed down entirely. I had the towel remain on the skin of my arm while I was trying to satisfy my curiosity.

It seems that I couldn’t see my HP changing, huh… Maybe it's another command?

“HUD”

That didn’t seem to work… maybe…

| HP: 80/100 | MP: 200/200 | SP: 140/140 | IS: 100/120 |

Afflictions:

| N/A |

That seemed to have worked. But was it really just 20 HP? I then glanced at the wound and back at the Status HUD. I guess the fact that I am not in shock must be contributing to it, or maybe it had to do something with the fact that I am not getting an adrenaline rush from this.

After a few long minutes of debating with myself, I decided to drop the topic because it became more an internal problem that hurt my brain more than anything.

I removed the towel from the self-inflicted wound and cast [Lesser Heal] on it. The particles that formed around the yellow orb of the [Lesser Heal] was absorbed into my skin. I felt the skin of my arm burning up as the wound was healed by the spell. The skin was also bubbling as the spell was working, but the wound was slowly disappearing without leaving a trace. The self-inflicted wound that was once there disappeared in a span of 4-5 seconds.

I then sighed. This was going to be a long night, after all, I was going to do this until my Restoration reaches 100 skill points. I looked outside the small barred window. The night sky was calm as the moonlight shined brightly into the bathroom. The stars were out, and the sound of an owl filled the once silent sound of the night.

So, what if I exploited the system, I needed to become stronger for what was going to be thrown in front of me in the future…
