Writer’s corner: GREETINGS FRIENDS! After some time, here we are back with the updates.

SO, today start the beginning of the crafting arc, which includes mostly the planning part. The chapter is a bit short, I know, but I’ll try to make up for it on the next chapters where I’ll have to describe the building part.

ALSO, right now I’m starting to get pumped to write IO’s battle scene, so expect an update by the end of the week at mos. Hopefully, I’ll manage to do the chapter by then, and with the battle done, I should get a bit more momentum writing the story parts.

ALSO(2), I decided to change my signature to show my latest two updates wherever they may be. To be honest, this is more like a way to get people to read my other works, but who cares! Shameless advertising for the win!

Beep, and enjoy your story!

“We’ll leave tomorrow, so we can let the guys rest a bit.”

With those last words, Lunn dismissed the crowd that had formed around, making each and every one present go back to their work. With the dwarf unpacking the things on the trailer and the Troll checking on the cars, Beepy made his way back towards Yllivia’s side and rested there while the girl kept on with her painting.

However, while his body rested quietly near her, his mind was quickly brought back to working pace as he felt Ruby channeling her attention towards him from inside the house.

It lasted for only a brief second before she suddenly redirected her attention somewhere else. For a few minutes she went quiet, before suddenly turning towards him curious and turn back once again.

For a few minutes the scene repeated itself, and after finally getting a bit annoyed by the repeating action which left him a bit uncomfortable, finally getting curious about it, he finally sighed in his mind and made the question.

[So… What with all the peeks?] Beepy asked.

[Ah, sorry… I didn’t mean to bother you.] Ruby replied immediately with a slightly embarrassed tone.

[Well, i wouldn’t really mind if you at least explained me why the sudden interest.] Gaz said with a wry tone.

[Oh, she’s been planning your next body!] Ekis said cheerfully, making him blink surprised.

[Weren’t you going to rest for today?] Gaz asked confused. For a moment there was an awkward silence through the link and he heard as Ekis sighed wryly.

[I wanted to, but…] Ruby said with a tired voice. [Since Evon is in town… I thought that we maybe should get his help quickly, so i started making the plans…]

[I see. But why do you keep peeking at me again?] Gaz asked a bit annoyed.

[That’s… We were trying to remember how those machines you showed us worked, but we thought you were sleeping.] Ekis said a bit awkwardly, making Gaz blink surprised for a moment before finally remembering that she could now change her point of view for Ruby’s.

[Is that all?] Gaz said with a sigh. [Feel free to check on my memory, you know? If it’s only for that I don’t mind it.] He said, and felt a thank you feeling coming from the two before Ekis started fiddling around his memory. For a moment he kept quiet, but seeing how he was doing nothing either, he finally decided that he’d rather go and see what they were doing.

After giving the lynnian a brief beep, he revved up his motors and started making his way inside the house through the front door and crossing the living room where Ross was unpacking some boxes and heading to the depot room that they had used to build his wolf body the last time.

Although he could open the door himself using the hand-like attachments from his body, it was a bit difficult, seeing how the doorknob was just on the limit of his reach, and he would need to improvise a bit to get that little extra height. But with Mirage sleeping on his back, he felt a bit concerned about waking her up. Thus, he quickly reached to the conclusion that knocking the door was a lot easier.

Not even a second later Ruby opened the door, let him in before closing it again.

The moment he entered, however, he stopped shocked before finally turning towards the girl, a confused beep escaping him as he registered the state of the room around him. The Morfian quickly understood reaction and a small blush formed on her face as she tried to hide her face behind the notebook she always carried around.

[How long have you been working again?] He asked the girl.

[Fo-Forty three minutes?]

[I see...] Gaz replied before giving the room around them a brand new look, seeing as a couple of dozen different piece of papers laid on the ground around them, each and every one having some kind of drawing of pieces and calculations. [And how many sketches you did again?]

[T-Twenty seven?] Ruby replied embarrassed while awkwardly looking away from him, but, just as bad of a liar she is, the truth came fast as Ekis quickly corrected.

[Thirty eight with the latest one, actually.] The goddess replied in a cheerful tone, however Ruby only blushed even more while turning back and walking towards the desk.

“A-A-Anyway… W-What did you want to s-see h-here?” She asked while sitting down and whipping out her pencil and going back to drawing.

[Well, i wanted to see how you two were doing, but i didn’t expect things to be so advanced already.] Gaz explained while, after some trouble, he managed to pick up one of the sketches and give it a better look.

[Actually…] Ekis said in a wry tone while Ruby froze for a moment, before going back to her sketch, except that a bit slower. [We are having some problems, so we keep going back to ground zero.]

[Huh? Why’s that?] Gaz asked confused.

[The turbines...] The morphian said in a low tone. [They are too complex… Too many pieces that we never saw before and too much we have to improvise due to lack of information.] She explained before sighing. [That, coupled with the fact that we can’t have a large body makes thing complex for us.] She explained in a tired tone.

This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.

Gaz accepted silently while looking at the sketch before him. The lack of information was very probably his fault, seeing how he never looked too much into the workings of a turbine in his previous life, but as the thought passed through his mind, he started noticing something on the drawings.

Looking around, noticed something a bit curious about all the drawings. All of them were of winged robots with both fixed wings and a set of turbines, either in pair or alone. Other had both a moveable wing and a single turbine for propulsion. After a few seconds of staring at all the pieces of paper on the ground, it finally clicked on him.

[Hey, why are you trying to go for the most complex right out of the bat?] He asked.

The moment the duo heard that, they froze, and Ruby turned to him instantly with a shocked expression.

[There’s… A simpler flying machine?] She asked surprised while staring at Gaz as if he was some kind of genius.

[Well… I’m not sure how much simpler, but… Wouldn’t making a quadcopter or something like that be easier than making a jet-propelled plane?] He asked after noticing a sheer lack of propeller based aircrafts. This also included helicopters and quadcopters, which are, at least in concept, simpler than their jet-based counterpart.

For a moment, there was an awkward silence on the room, both in the physical and in the mental plane as the girls processed his words. When it finally sunk in what he meant, Gaz felt as Ekis quickly invaded his mind while relentlessly searching for information, her impetus being fueled by Ruby’s excitement as she urged her on.

Their aggressivity was such that Gaz even took a brief step back. Or a roll back, seeing how he didn’t have feet to take steps. The sudden movement even woke up the lazy cat who was sleeping on his back, who started meowing in complaint before trying to go back to sleep.

Not even a moment later, he could hear as the two started discussing designs in his head, Ruby nodding in agreement as she understood and planned the applications of the new technology. Not even a second passed before she ripped the page from her notebook and started sketching anew.

[We could use a simple motor for this. A spark one...]

[The propellers will need to be custom-made, though.]

[Probably forge some protectors too...]

[Luckily, Gaz can deal with the calculations, so there’s no need to worry too much about balancing.]

[Think solar-power will be enough?]

[Better add some more panels just to be safe.]

As the two quickly started their talk, even Gaz could see as an image started forming in their head and in the sketchbook before the girl. Peeking at the drawing, Gaz could see the shape, and true enough, they were doing something much alike what he thought initially.

A central body that was large enough to fit his core plus a battery and such. Overall, it was around half of the size of the leaper body. Focusing on being lighter and being the first time there ever was such a large flying robot, it wasn’t that much of a surprise that they’d rather try and go for a simple shape.

However, not even four minutes passed before the plan was discarded with seemingly no reason. Confused by the reason, Gaz quickly approached the paper and gave it a look, however, all that he found was a plan that was seemingly one step away from being finished.

[Too little self-defense.] Ruby explained. [Would be better to add some kind of offensive mechanism...]

[What about giving it some kind of long ranged weapon?] Ekis said and Ruby nodded immediately.

[A modified version of the spike shooter?] She asked before nodding. [Maybe add some more firepower with an electric discharge?]

As Gaz watched the two start geeking over his new body, he couldn’t help but smile awkwardly in his mind. From the looks of it, it might have been a good idea to leave the planning to these two together, as they would quickly notice any kind of mistake the other was doing.

[Maybe we could add some type of long range bombing device!] Ekis suddenly added. [And some kind of system that allows for silent movement!]

[Yeah, and if we can increase the thrust strength, we could even give it gunpowder based weaponry!] Ruby nodded in excitement. [We could even use the shot-box Gaz took during the tournament!]

[What about changing the design so that he would look cooler? We could make him into a Bird or something! That way he could have claws!]

Okay, now they were going too far.

[You two! Calm down, will ya?] Beepy said, making the two snap out of their excitement. [Look,, we all know next to nothing of flying mechanics, so let’s start with something small, shall we?]

[[...Sorry...]] The two replied embarrassed while Ruby lowered her head and fiddled with her fingers [It’s just that...][...We wanted to make it better].

[Take it one step at a time, okay?] Gaz said wryly before shaking his head. [Anyway, if you do want to improve it that much, try something simple, like adding a motor that allows to spin the motors around so they can be used for forward thrusts. Besides, it’s not like we need this body to be done by the end of the day. We could always repair the wolf body if push comes to shove.]

Ruby nodded and Gaz could feel as Ekis did the same in their link. Another ripping sound echoed before Ruby went back to writing while Gaz and Ekis discussed the upgrades he wanted for the wolf body.

By the end of the day, the basis of the plan was laid out and all the pieces they’d need to be done were already planned. While the girls did manage to squeeze a few upgrades in, it was mostly a simple design without anything too over the top.

And with that, they started to prepare for what they need the following day.
