Minamoto Clan

1020 AD, 3rd Month of 12, Kamakura City, Japan, Planet Sky

A kilometre or so from the city, Uehara appeared along with Chizuki in a dark swirl. Having the cover of the forest, no one noticed the anomaly. They were on the edge of the forest. So while behind them there was a multitude of trees, in front of them was extensive farmland that saw quite a few shepherds herding the livestock into their respective enclosures before the sun went down.

Uehara ignored the mild headache his attendant was experiencing from teleporting in favour of observing the city. The walls surrounding the city were tall, very tall. But that wasn’t what was important. Across the hundred-metre high stone wall, Uehara could sense various chakra signatures lining it.

Activating his amatsugan, what he saw reinforced his decision to not teleport into the city.

“Sealing tags, specifically, memory tags are built into the wall.”

Chizuki, who had by now reoriented herself from the teleportation, widened her brows at the sudden information.

“Memory tags?”

“Yes. They’re sealing tags designed to capture and memorise the aura signature of whoever enters the city.”

He then turned to look at Chizuki, amatsugan still activated.

“They also have the added function of gauging how much energy an individual has.”

Silence. That was all there was. Uehara let what he said sink in. A horrifying realisation soon dawned within Chizuki’s mind.

Her chakra acted up, causing her eyes to glow blue in silent anger.

“So that is how Sakura and I were found…”

“Yes. Your abnormal chakra signatures marked you as targets for observation.”

Uehara continued to run his gaze along the city. With his ocular technique, he could see the energy of every single existence, including the energy contained in seals, weapons and other items such as plants.

If it had energy, whether it be ki or chakra, he could see it.

“Now to find the ten largest signatures and mark them for observation.”

Simultaneously, nine shadow clones with their amatsugan activated spawned next to Uehara. Chizuki, who had by now swallowed her anger, calmly stood behind her masters and closed her eyes. Using a bit of nature energy, Chizuki merged her senses with the water vapour in the air.

The last thing she wanted to be was useless.

“I’ll observe the rest of the populace for you, masters.”

““Hn””

While Chizuki would get an estimate on the number of soldiers, Uehara would find an estimate on the strength of the strongest existences residing in the city.

For the next two hours, both master and servant stood idly, observing their targets with their respective abilities. With their techniques, something like infiltration wasn’t required. Uehara could see through walls and Chizuki could connect with water, regardless of its state (solid, liquid, gas), within a ten-kilometre radius.

While Chizuki would’ve preferred to use her sage mode to sense everyone through nature energy, she couldn’t risk the energy output that would risk them getting undoubtedly sensed by the sensors within the city.

Uehara on the other hand, had worked with his clones to map out each of his target’s capabilities based on the amount of energy they had and their combat capabilities. Their combat capability was estimated based on their gait

To his trained eyes, he could roughly make out a target’s combat capabilities from the way they walk or stand. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to use his eyes to lip read. While the amatsugan allowed him to see energy, it only did that- see energy. All the humans within his vision were silhouettes of white (ki) or blue (chakra). His eyesight wasn’t refined enough that he could see their lips move but was just enough to gauge their walking speed, distance between each gait and the posture they maintained while walking.

As much as he wanted to infiltrate directly, he wasn’t confident enough about suppressing his humongous chakra signature enough to walk through the barrier undetected. Hiding his signature is one thing. Suppressing it is another and he could tell that those memory tags are specifically made to detect energy signatures.

This predicament reminded him of a quote he heard from his father roughly nine-years ago when he was still receiving additional lessons on surins.

‘A waterfall can be hidden behind a mountain but the sounds of the rushing water cannot be hushed.’

Regardless, his focus shifted towards Chizuki’s chakra that had already spread throughout the entire region.

[It is only because of her mastery over water that she can divide her chakra through the water molecules that, the barrier treats her chakra signature as flies from the same mother, despite there being thousands of flies with the exact same signature entering the barrier.]

He smiled to himself.

[Redundancy at its finest.]

(AN: I read the paragraph above as I was editing and I admit, it is slightly confusing if you don’t know what’s happening. To break it down, imagine an airport and you’re about to pass through security. You have a knife on you and you know that the metal detector you’re about to pass through will detect it. To counteract that, you divide/separate the knife into so many tiny pieces that metal detector won’t be able to detect the knife. Hopefully this makes sense.)

Nonetheless, Uehara continued observing the man who had the highest chakra signature in the city. Judging from the slightly hunched back, Uehara had guessed that this man was old but regardless of his age, the man’s chakra was frighteningly composed and uniform.

Watching the old man walk around conducting his business had mesmerised Uehara. Although he walked slowly with his hands held upon his back, Uehara could tell that even he couldn’t ensure a hundred-percent victory in a one-on-one in purely close-combat.

It was because of this thought that he came to a realisation.

[I have to kill him first at all costs.]

Flinch

The old man had suddenly stopped after sensing the killing intent from Uehara.

Minamoto no Keiji, former patriarch of the Minamoto clan and elder brother to the current patriarch, was calmly walking around the clan gardens. Whenever he started thinking about the death of his son, taking a walk through the gardens always calmed him.

However, during his walk, he suddenly felt a feeling he knew all but too well. Although it was very faint, he could never mistake it.

[Killing intent!]

Placing a hand inside his dark robe, he withdrew a kunai and flung it right where he detected the source.

Uehara saw the man’s chakra start circulating faster and he knew he committed a rookie mistake. That was further accented when he saw a projectile filled to the brim with chakra flung directly at him.

Tilting his head to the side, the metal object whizzed past him and went through three trees before embedding on the fourth.

Chizuki’s widened in horror at the familiar metal object.

“M-master!”

“We’ve been compromised Chizuki, due to an error on my part.”

Uehara then turned to face towards his attendant.

“I will take on the majority of their forces. Make sure to find any person’s you value and evacuate them. My clones will help you.”

Royal blue chakra slowly manifested around Uehara.

“You have a minute before I fight without care for consequences.”

He didn’t give Chizuki any time to reply before he channeled chakra to his feet and vanished.

...

Appearing just about a hundred metres away from the city gates, Uehara was just a few centimetres away from the barrier covering the entire city. He knew he still had time. His presence was already revealed and any sort of stealthy assassination was foregone.

He could turn away right now and plan for an attack later. This is what the assassin side of him, what Shawn Dillon would’ve done.

[But I’m not Shawn anymore. Who I was in the past is a distant memory. I am Aoki Uehara, son of Volka Juri.]

The blue flares of chakra that outlined him suddenly gained a hint of black, his yin attribute making itself known.

“I am the son of the chaos god.”

Taking one step forward, his aura exploded, immediately overwhelming and breaking the barrier surrounding the city.

He could already feel Chizuki and his clones rush into the city. One of his clones had already went back to the island to fetch Shikibu and Sakura as well if she’s awake.

Through his amatsugan, he could see hundreds of chakra and ki signatures flocking towards the wall or spreading out through the mountains to his left and the forest to his right to surround him from all sides.

“Let’s remedy that.”

Having spread his area of influence by exerting his aura over the immediate area, Uehara lifted his foot…and stomped down… HARD.

BOOM

(AN: I give up. I can’t do this anymore. I am done! Everytime I try to promise daily chapters, SOMETHING always happens. Last week, my laptop battery finally gave up on me. So I had to order a new one since even with the charging cable stuck in, it wouldn’t open. I only recently got the battery and I’m able to write again. But still, I’m no longer making promises. All I can say is that I will TRY to upload on a daily basis. I don’t have any school this week so unless something happens, like the transformer in my area suddenly having its cables stolen and we have no electricity, I will do my best to upload everyday.

By the way, do tell me what you think about the story. And one more thing. For all that is holy and great, if you give me less than four stars, at the very least write down WHY you think my story is crap or that you hate it, rather than leaving me hanging.

Thank you)
