A3 - Chapter 9 - Once again to Birgen

Author:  Thank you for reading.

Last time I ended an Arc I tried to go back to past chapters to fix things (Got sidelined by work) and I’m gonna try again this time, though incrementally over time.  There is a lot to improve and I have no issues with people saying that it could be better and such, since, yea it could.  I’ll do my best to improve.  Also new readers, I HATE NTR, so none of that will be in this story.

Amare’s Dwelling

*Flash*

I prayed as usual to enter Amare’s dwelling expecting a smile and such from her.  However, her current disposition dictates things are a bit different today.  Her usual aura has been dampened and her expression only seems to make it worse.  I dislike this appearance, especially when I don't know what's the cause.

“Welcome Kuro, don't mind me...just...thinking about a few things.  Let’s just share some delicious things and discuss some matters as usual.” (Amare)

*Sigh* this isn’t the first time, should I have expected anything else when it comes to her problems.  When she is like this, she doesn't even offer any questionable foods.  The only reply I got to these thoughts as well was a weak smile, yet the sadness in her eyes doesn’t change.  She seems oddly fragile for a god when I think about it.

“How are the girls, they seem to be happy from what I could tell.” (Amare)

“They have been working hard and made lots of progress with their training.  Their more determined when I think about it.  Though, they are often asked rather personal questions from a lot of women around the village.  Other than that they don't act any different from before.” (Kuro)

“The attention isn’t surprising, there are a lot of cases where mating is more often an act of obligation.  Most women, like in the past of your former world, don't even realize it can be a pleasant experience.  So finding out it can be a lot different makes them curious, think nothing of it.” (Amare)

“The guys in this world need to get their act together.” (Kuro)

Even if the conversation is what normally comes up before our serious talks.  Don't think you can simply change the subject.  I want to know what's going on with you, and at some point I will get answers.

“...Fuu-, tell me, how do you like the new system.  I spent quite some effort into making it originate from you, instead of from an outside influence (*Sigh* I hope that day never comes).” (Amare)

“(Still unwilling huh, I won't force anything.  To do so is counter productive.)...It has potential, though I lost a bunch of skills.” (Kuro)

“Hmm, it was most likely due to those classes related to them being equipped at the time, they were the first ones struck by the rewrite among other things.” (Amare)

“?  So you’re not fully sure?” (Kuro)

“I made it so the previous system would be altered by an energy fluctuation derived from your soul after the update started.  As you know from your [Connected] trait, your soul can grow stronger and evolve with certain conditions.  It isn't a common thing though, so don't bother trying it on your own and let it happen naturally.  The soul is a very complex thing, and shouldn’t be messed with lightly.

Now, the energy had properties pertaining to your disposition while the update sought to limit you.  You don't like limitations, so now you have none, while the update set you back to the starting point in terms of class buffs.  Whether you can get those skills and such back...it's up to you.” (Amare)

Okay, it sounds like the usual.  I also still have enough capability to fight stronger opponents, though it will be a bit difficult for now without combat class buffs.  But what about the idiots.  From what I know, they won't allow this.

“Fufu, you don't have to worry.  Everything was set up to look like it was due to their actions.  Think of your soul building up an immunity to outside influences and resisting.  That's how it looked like on this end.” (Amare)

“Interesting.” (Kuro)

“Now then, anything else.” (Amare)

“Hmm, what about the other chosen.  I have never met them, but I don't have a good impression based on what I have heard.  The three I know from the sub-gods are, how should I say it, sub-par when it comes to fighting (Though they are decent in other things at least).” (Kuro)

When I asked, Amare scoffed a bit at the mention of the others.  I don't blame her, their latest activity was them joining together to liberate that Colosseum city Korgoth.  Now though, the city has no form of stable income since it came from the coliseum and the surrounding land is barren with no resources to speak of.  Traders have a difficult time getting there, and now they are no longer guaranteed money for the trip.  Problems are only increasing as time passes.

Don't get me wrong, I’m am far from perfect.  I even blew up a city by accident with a nuke.  But at least it had a good ending with the revival of a dead race.  Labrindel has also found stability for the most part.  The main difference though, is that I was the only chosen involved in those incidents.  They need to seriously make some effort to improve if they can't function without the help of other chosen.  Things won't get done if we don't spread out and  cover multiple areas.

“I dislike talking about them.  But as you know, each chosen was given a system to use in order to grow stronger.  Each system was created from a number of different strengthening methods.  Like how yours quantifies your growth and turns abilities you discover into skills that grow in strength as you practice them, among other things.” (Amare)

“Yea.” (Kuro)

“Each system was currently undergoing a transition period in order to prepare the chosen to start up their real missions.  Everything before was to give you all time to adapt.” (Amare)

“So...they all got stronger, wait, then why did the other gods cause the destruction of my class system.  Their own chosen should be their top priority at the moment.” (Kuro)

“I know it was inconvenient, but with the people I’m dealing with...Anyway, you still gained some decent benefits and should be strong enough settle your family problems and other things given time.  Though I recommend taking a few precautions right now since, like your older brother, they have a few dangerous trinkets.  ” (Amare)

Like she mentioned many times before, these gods are a bunch of fools with their own agendas.  Hmph, too bad for them, now they can't do anything to me now.  As for my family, I think I shouldn’t have too much trouble dealing with them.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“I can go on about how idiotic the other gods are but our time is almost up, and you have a lot to do.” (Amare)

“Right...any advice before I head out.” (Kuro)

“Don't blow yourself up.” (Amare)

“...Can you let go of the nuke thing already.” (Kuro)

“No way, do you realize the expressions the others made.  ~Priceless~.” (Amare)

*Flash*

--------------------------------------

I awaken to the usual.  Puerial and Shiro lay at my sides with content faces due to our recent activities.  The fairy lay comfortably on my chest with a pillow with a bit of drool falling from her lips.  Putting my thoughts in order, I start thinking on what to do and how to do it as the darkness outside slowly recedes.

The guards my brother had were made a part of the local militia along with the other criminals we have encountered.  They have been training the villagers who want to protect their loved ones when they are not on patrol.  This includes Hank and Lock, the two are eager to uncover their secrets and finally step into a stronger stage.

...They seriously want to just beat me up in my opinion.  Surprisingly, they are sore losers.

The inn has a steady income of patrons, though we have yet to become packed yet.  It’s too dangerous for casual travel between cities and such due to frequent monster attacks.  My hope is to eventually lower the high monster populations that migrate the area into manageable levels.

Our main problem is their migration habits.  We wipe out one horde, only for another to appear the next day.  It’s a wonder how this village survived at all.  All they were willing to say was that there was a lot of sacrifices.  Their somber mood didn’t allow for any elaboration on the subject.

It's not hard to understand what I need to do before I leave this place.  These people who are doing as they please need to be taken out.  The heads need to go, but the grunts are perfect to train up better guards than the standard ones around.

The area also needs suitable leaders as well, and the sub-chosen, John, Smith, and Claire (I didn’t ask their opinions on their names), seem capable for that aspect.  Tammy also shows superb managerial qualities.  Where they lack in fighting ability, they make up for in their planning and management aptitudes.

Even so, I still make them train, they can't up and die due to an assault or something.  The possibility of someone gunning for their future positions is not small.

I’m alerted from my thoughts as the fairy began waking the other two with some dust in their nose.  I analyzed it before to be a simple invigoration dust that makes people wake up.  It's not strong, but it's Interesting stuff.

She started doing this after my blood awakening, but that's the furthest she interacts with the other two.  After giving them the dust, she immediately crawls into my pocket.

“Au, I hate that dust.” (Puerial)

“...Morning.” (Shiro)

In truth, I like the dust.  These two always struggle to wake up and make things difficult in the morning.

“Morning you two, any plans for the day?” (Kuro)

“*Yawn*...Training” (Shiro)

“Practicing magic with Shirley.” (Puerial)

“...I’m heading to Birgen.” (Kuro)

The two sit up hearing my words.  They don't have to say anything, the desire to follow is blaring.  But there are a few things they still need to learn if they want to follow me past this point.

“Unless you fully learn the techniques from those guards, than don't bother commanding to come with me.  I myself need to set up a few things before I go.  With what you have learned so far gaining the techniques should be simple.  What you need to do is get used to using them.  You have till the end of the week to show the bare minimum.” (Kuro)

They seem a little displeased at the condition they need to accomplish in order to follow, but they understand why and don't complain verbally.  It's not really necessary since I would be the one fighting the heads.  This is mostly just to motivate them to start acclimating the new skills into their arsenal.

The things I need to do is practice [Bloodwake Step] and see if I can get something into my permanent class before I go.  Crafting will be on hold for a while.

After a week of going through all knowledge I got from the class system.  I understand that this new system requires me to have both a mental and physical understanding of what I’m learning.  It’s similar to reading about martial arts but never practicing it.  Having superficial knowledge won't help.

In the end, all I got were the analytic effect from the analyst sub class.  Not directly suitable for combat, but improves my comprehension ability.

Shiro has overtaken Hank and Lock with the movement skill Linex used.  He looked so overjoyed to teach her when I offered the choice to teach her and Puerial rather than spend quality time.  And I thought he liked having his innards and bones pulled out of him to play doctor.  The moments he pleaded for death were so heart warming and everything.  With my healing abilities, our play time could have gone on for as long as he desired to boot.  Unfortunately, I needed him for other things.

Puerial is also able to make a fool out of Lock now, the guy almost pulled out his hair in frustration.  I was so proud.

Even if it's a bit rough, they have seriously put some grit into learning the movement technique.  The fighting skills are still on the table, but being able to keep up with their opponents is always important.

After getting the haggard looking Linex from his shed, the three of us set out to Birgen.

---------------------------------

A/N: After he deals with his family will be a side chapter about Beth and everyone (Pretty much all the girls for some development on their current thought patterns) since they will be leaving the story for a while.  Khan will also reappear later, I didn’t forget about him.

I always said that the sub chosen are only side people, so their part is minor.
