Trauma of a Soul

Newt gestures out his hand as he brings the occamy close to me. The occamy tilts its head cutely as it if it were a baby bird.

"How old is it?" I ask curiously.

"She is five, so a young adult for occamy. Her name is Avaria."

I hold out my hands, "May I?"

He just smiles and puts his hands above mine, Avaria looks up at me then my hands before slithering into my arms. She grows a little longer than two feet so she snugly fits in my arms like a cradled baby.

Newt sighs as he shakes his head, "It seems you have quite the natural affinity for magical creatures. It is truly enviable, as a magizoologist it would have made my life even more fulfilling."

Cradling the occamy in my arms I smirk, "If your life had been any greater perhaps Dumbledore would be outshined."

"I am but a man who loves animals, I could never compare to the man who defeated Grindlewald."

My brows raise at the interesting topic, "You were there right? The duel between the two greatest wizards in the last hundred years."

Newt's smile drops a bit, "I was, I was also there when he fought Credence." His tone is a bit drab as he no longer meets my eyes.

"Who is Credence?" I ask at the abrupt change in tone.

With a mysterious aversion he continues, "The duel was something no one could imagine, their power is far more than you think. I heard Salazar Slytherin reappeared and you were there correct?"

I nod, "I was."

"Imagine the power you felt that day on a much larger scale. Dumbledore came there that day with the conviction to kill a person he truly cared for… Luckily it did not come to that and he managed to disarm Grindlewald."

I nod, "So who is Credence?"

Newt sighs as he pulls Sin from his neck and hangs him on mine; then he takes Avaria from my hands setting her in her nest, "Follow me."

I am a bit off-put by the seriousness of his tone, "There is more?"

He nods, "This will determine if this suitcase will belong to you." With calm steps, he opens the door and I follow behind closing the door tight.

He leads me to the door at the very top door, unlike the other doors, it is not painted instead it is a plain white. I don't say anything as Newt gives me a glance before opening the door. I calmly wait for Newt to fully open the door before stepping in.

What is inside the room causes my eyes to widen.

In a giant white room is a ball of fog a meter in diameter, with another to the left more than six times its size resting next to it. The smaller ball of black fog is slowly revolving calmly while the bigger one seems to crack and rage with a thin, deep red lightning.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

My eyes narrow as I take the situation seriously, "This is…"

"Obscurus. The right one is Samiah, an eight-year-old girl I failed to save. The right one is Credence, a powerful young boy who was set upon the wrong path by Grindlewald…"

Seeing the questions in my eyes he continues, "Dumbledore told me you may be able to show me something special."

I nod seriously, "What happens in this room must NEVER be spoken outside of it."

Meeting my gaze he nods, with solemn eyes he pulls out his wand and places the tip over his heart, "I, Newton Artemis Fido Scamander, vow to never speak a word of what I see in this room to anyone." His wand lets out a bright white light as he nods to me.

"I thought if you were showing me your secret, I should at least meet your sincerity."

I give a wry smile, "Vowing with your life seems a bit far."

"It is rare magic that I myself made, I've never gotten a chance to use it anyway. If it alleviates your doubts then it is a worthy use."

I smile at his sincerity, "Then I will show you."

Stepping in front of the smaller obscurus I raise my arms and close my eyes. My 'sight' allows me to peer inside the fog; I see inside the fog is a normal-sized soul with a black magical core membrane leaking out the fog.

On the other obscurus, I see that the soul is nearly three times larger and the membrane around it is virtually merged with the smoke. I ignore the bigger obscurus as I focus on the smaller one, I wish to test my theory.

From my outstretched hands, my shroud begins to leak out clambering towards the obscurus. Reaching out in the form of outstretched arms the shroud grabs onto the fog tearing it off like layers on an onion. The magic around the obscurus is undone as the obscurus seems to scream out in pain.

I 'see' concern on Newt's face but it quickly shifts to awe as the tearing reveals a shining white and grey soul. Newt falls to his knees as my shroud caresses the soul breaking the last bit of magic membrane showing off the soul of the young girl in a physical form. It is not the size of a marble-like it should be, instead it is a bit larger than a softball, probably due to the obscurus.

I open my eyes as I turn back to Newt who is still kneeling, "Can you put up your magic again to protect it?"

He nods as he stands pulling out his wand, in an arching motion he moves his arm and the soul becomes circled in a translucent blue shield. My shrouds hands softly let go of the soul and I let out a breath of relief that my assumption was correct.

"The obscurus is a mutation of the magical membrane created from the soul itself. It holds the resentment, anger, and negative emotions that the owner felt in their life. What Credence must have gone must have been awful." I say closing my eyes gazing at the nearly pitch-black soul hidden inside of the parasitic entity.

Newt gazes at Credence's obscurus with a complicated expression, "I know."

Newt's eyes shift to me, "Are you also an obscurial?"

I look at him oddly, "Of course not, I can magic… I am something far more unique."

I can see he wants to dig further but he doesn't instead he looks back at Credence, "Can you save that soul as well?"

Looking around at the room I shake my head, "It is far too violent, it would destroy this space before I could consume it."

Peering at the right lightning inside the bubble he lowers his head to me, "That one has sentimental value to Dumbledore, I do hope you try to save him in the future."

I grab his shoulder so he can't lower his head more, "There is no need to bow, I was planning on saving his soul anyway."

He gives me a kind smile, "Then, shall we go inform Dumbledore of our progress?" I nod at his words following him out.

Making our way to the upstairs ladder I wave goodbye to Archy before making my way up. Getting outside into the real fresh summer air feels nice.

"SOREN!" I hear my name called as I'm only halfway out of the suitcase.

Getting out I see the scene of Aria riding Luar with a wide grin and a hand in the air waving towards me. I grin seeing Dumbledore following Luar closely making sure Aria doesn't fall.

I wave back as Newt and I walk towards the father-daughter-unicorn trio.
