Mortemagus

The rain falls hard as I stand at the base of Darkness Falls beneath a small yew tree. In my hands I hold a phial of blood-red liquid, the culmination of a full month of work. I hold it high peering at the moon through the translucent liquid.

My pondering is cut short by the hundreds of dementors above crisscrossing over the moon not giving me a good view.

I sigh as I hold my wand above my heart, "Amato animo animato animagus," I quickly drink the red liquid and wait.

A few seconds pass and I don't feel the second heartbeat I feel a bit of disappointment as I lower my wand.

"OW"

I flinch as I feel a sharp pain shoot through my left arm almost making me fall over. My eyes widen as I see my arm is now huge with disgusting grey skin with black splotches. This arm is familiar, it's my arm from my dementor form.

As I'm gawking at my arm I next feel my leg throb. I look down to see my pant leg is gone as well as the leg itself; it is now replaced by fog but a thin cloak-like darkness drapes over that fog.

Turning around I hobble into my tower to transform in a safer environment. The floating candles illuminating the walls give me a feeling of safety as I lean against the large central staircase.

I take deep breaths as my other arm transforms, then my other leg, then my chest, finally my head.

I now 'stand' in my grand entrance hall as my twenty-foot-tall dementor self. I don't know for sure what the change was but I know my transformation was far different from the usual.

Focusing my mind on my arm I try to transform it into my human one but I am unable. I try to shift back to my human form and (thankfully) it works like usual.

Now as a human I focus on my arm and try to transform it into my dementor form. I feel a slight pain from my shoulder but I successfully shift my normal human-sized arm into a massively oversized dementor arm.

Excitedly I try to shift it back and it does as I say returning to human form. I let out a sigh of relief that I didn't waste a month of my time.

Holding my arm out again I begin to limit test my new ability. I again shift my arm into dementor form and try to manipulate its size. Again it hurts a bit but I can shrink it but I can't make it any bigger than it is in my dementor form.

Getting a bright idea I change my arm back to human and roll up my wet sleeve so I can see the muscles and tendons. I close my eyes as I focus on them and slowly try to shift them into my dementor form's muscles.

"Ugh"

Fall to a knee holding my arm, it feels as if thousands of needles are being pressed into my arm. After ten or so seconds the pain passes and I stand up again.

I flex my fingers as I feel out my muscles, it feels light, I feel as though I could punch a hole in a tree. Stepping back outside into the rain I stand facing the yew tree and ball my fist.

BANG

With all my might I strike the tree in the center of the trunk shattering it into splinters. I feel a sharp pain in my arm but I ignore it as I stare at the now fallen yew tree. I try to ball my fist again but instead wince in pain as a sharp pain shoots up my arm.

Looking down I see blood is dripping off my hand; the skin on my knuckles is torn off and my fingers are torn up. Without much care, I take a blood coagulation potion from my shroud and drink it. Then taking out my wand I quickly heal the skin.

Holding up my freshly healed hand I nod in affirmation that it is healed well.

"Noted, next time transform the skin as well, or use my shroud to protect it," I say to myself.

Although if I were to use my shroud what is the point of enhancing my muscles? My shroud could probably do anything my arms can but better… Pushing off that thought I head back inside, I have a good idea.

From my shroud, I pull out a chair and set it in the grand entrance and sit down. Holding out my legs I slowly shift them into dementor form. Just like last time, they fade to nothing and a cloak covers my lower half.

I smirk as I try to confirm my idea and 'stand up'. My grin widens as I find myself easily floating with my 'legs' beneath me.

Slowly I raise myself off the ground and bring myself to the top of the first-floor stairs to the alchemy room. I feel sheer glee flying around, this is far different from flying as a dementor or carrying myself with my shroud. It is far zippier and quite a bit faster than carrying myself.

Not to mention using my human eyes to see the world from above makes it seem more 'real'. Although I'm sure it would be great outside I'd not be struck by lightning.

After testing a few more things I head outside and call down some dementors.

As around fifty of them float in front of me I look between them calmly, "Half of you head to Azkaban and bring them to the prison cells on the 50th to 65th floor."

My personal room is on the 66th floor so I will be able to see all of them at all times. I plan to go to each of them and scan their souls for information. It's about time I put my unused power to work.

"The other half will begin construction on a third building inside the inner walls of Darkness Falls. Make it similar to the common houses in the village but large like the mansions, I don't wanna give him too much luxury."

I point out the largest of the bunch, "You will be the one in charge of the construction."

The fourteen-foot-tall dementor lowers its head, "Yes my lord."

With a nod, I wave my hand and they scatter like ducks to a gunshot. I am a bit surprised at how quickly they move but I don't show it. Instead, I head back inside the tower and finish Sid's book about how to make a Horcrux.

Every book I've read about them was about how they work, the theory behind them, and how to destroy them. This is the first book I've read on how to MAKE them and let me tell you, I now have seven more reasons to kill Voldemort.

The thought of a human doing such a thing makes me retch, only a truly vile being can make a Horcrux.
