About The Vaults

Just as expected Divination was incredibly boring, I've always been good at math but that doesn't mean it's not boring. The first task was to calculate the odds of a coin landing on heads. I managed to 'guess' right about eighty percent of the time, which is a neat trick. That is if I wanna whip out a piece of paper every time I go to flip a coin. No thank you, I'll stick to luck.

Transfiguration was a bit better since all third-year Gryffindor's are in it together. That being said the content of the lessons is as boring as ever. Just like each year before McGonagall started to lecture the moment the clock struck ten.

But what I've really been waiting for is now, as soon as lunch ended Hermione, Harry, Ron, Theo, Daphne, and I head to Care of Magical Creatures together. Class is taking place at the forbidden forest today so we head there first.

As we reach the edge of the forest I can see a nervous Hagrid talking to a cheery Charlie.

A few of us wave getting their attention, they both wave back before going back to talking. I assume they are talking about today's lesson so we leave them alone.

"So, did you find the path?" I ask Daphne sitting on the stump in front of Hagrid's hut.

"What?! You guys already went looking for it? We only got told about it yesterday, no fair." Ron complains sitting on the grass next to me.

Daphne gives him a small smirk, "I did find it, of course I didn't go inside, since you told us to wait for you."

I nod, "Thank you for listening. Thought I would have preferred if you didn't look for it on your own at all."

Daphne gives a sorry nod, "The other two told me, sorry."

I wave off her apology, "You didn't know so it's fine."

Ron gives me an odd look, "Why do we need you even to just look for it?"

With a small smile I turn to him, "Because sometimes the entrances are guarded, be careful. I only know up to the third vault but I can only guess it gets harder from the second on."

"So how far did Snape get?" Harry asks curiously.

"He got to the second and gave up."

Theo's eyes narrow, "He does seem like the type to give up if it's too troublesome, but why?"

"Because the vault he found isn't about knowing a spell, it has an entry cost. Someone else got to the second vault before him so he went on to the third but gave up as he didn't want to race."

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

"Wait so do you not know where the second vault is?" Hermione asks.

"I know what the hint for the second vault is, but no I don't know where is. Although I will tell you the hint is very easy, I could probably find it if I spent a while looking."

"So what is the hint?" I turn to Ron to see he is incredibly excited.

I smirk at him, "Why can't you get this excited about school?"

Ron rolls his eyes, "I do, with dueling."

Hermione raises her brows at him, "That because we don't get homework in dueling."

Ron looks offended but we all know she is right, "Of course a treasure hunt is more fun than schoolwork. It has work in the name!"

Harry laughs at his defensiveness, "But who do we go to if you're busy."

I shrug as I gesture over at Charlie, "Him or Lupin. Both of them know what we are up to and I'm sure Lupin would be willing to help. I hear the marauders cleared a few vaults themselves so Lupin would know a thing or two about the vaults. Two and four if I remember right?"

"Who are the marauders?" Theo asks leaning against Hagrid's hut.

"They are what our father's friend group called themselves. Sirius Black, James Potter, Remus Lupin, and a rat. Just like you guys make up the Mafia."

Hermione looks at me with an annoyed gaze, "I never joined such a thing."

Theo laughs as he raises a hand, "I did."

Ron nods, "I did as well."

Daphne smiles, "I am fine with it."

"Same," Harry says looking at Hermione with a teasing grin.

Hermione scoffs, "Whatever."

"Speaking of the Mafia, the twins and I have a surprise for you this weekend," Theo says with a proud smile.

"Oo, then I'll look forward to it."

"The twins have been hard at work over the summer. I think you will be surprised at their successes."

"I was already surprised last week, I can't believe they pulled something like 'that' off. Truly a terrifying pair of thieves, not to mention their prank toy was capable of beating the ministry's best protective charms. Well, it didn't break them, managed to get around I should say."

Theo laughs at my words as everyone else seems to be confused, rightfully so. Before I can speak again I see Charlie walking towards us, everyone turns towards him.

He waves hello as he gets close, "Sorry to butt into your conversation but I wanted to tell you, Luar will be helping with class today."

I hold up a hand, "That's no problem, I'm sure she will like the attention."

Charlie nods, "I'm sure she will. You guys were talking about the vaults, right?"

Harry, the closest to him, nods, "Then you should be careful, my friends and I tried to take on the first one when we were younger. Almost died to the frozen knight."

Ron's eyes widen as he stands up, "You never told me the vaults were real?!"

Charlie smirks at him as he ruffles his hair, "It's like an open secret in Hogwarts, if you find them you are supposed to never tell anyone. If you are unable to beat them you have to put them back to how they were before you found them."

Hermione steps forward, "Can you give us a hint?"

Charlie strokes his chin as he thinks, "Two fires beat one ice? I guess that is the best way to phrase it."

I smile at his words, "Good hint."

Charlie smirks back at me, "Thanks, this is fun, I can see why you wanted to be the 'game master'."

"I know, right?"

"Well class is starting soon so I have to get back to the animals."

"Thank you, professor," Hermione says politely.

Charlie just waves as he walks away, "So, there is a frozen knight." Theo states obviously.

"There is."

"What else?" Ron asks hopefully.

"I'm not the hint guy, go ask Lupin. I heard his first lesson tomorrow will help you guys in the second vault though."

Hermione's eyes narrow, "What is the lesson about?"

I give her a smile, "Boggarts."
